Vesuvius had a problem.

Most people when they saw him assumed he was a LARPer or a cosplayer (though no one ever knew the show) or some big nerd that just never grew up. He was, in fact, none of these things but convincing someone of that in costume was like nailing Jell-o to a tree. You could try but there was no guarantee at all that you would succeed. It never seemed likely, anyway, and he was slowly working on getting the number of people that saw him to diminish over the passing weeks.

He supposed the others had similar problems from their costumes, especially Camelot the Ren Faire reject. It could be worse, he supposed but it was still frustrating. Donovan liked to consider himself a pretty cool guy, together in a dysfunctional kind of way but he had a good life and a lot of fun and no shortage of women to flirt with. That had to count for something, didn't it? He liked to think so.

He would have felt for the cosplaying community at large but then again they chose this! He didn't, clearly, though he did enjoy being a pirate. He just kind of hoped that he could go somewhere else and save the day. (not that he'd know where to go but...details).

At least no one seemed to recognize him.

He felt a tug as a bad aura came toward him from the left and he turned his head to catch sight of whoever it was.

Lieutenant Merlinite was enjoying this new gig of his. It was way better than his job at the police station, and he imagined it would be much easier for him to climb up in the ranks. And hell, all the training he got here he could apply to his efforts to make it as a big time cop there. It was all working out for him! He'd gotten a later start than most, maybe, but he was more than happy to make the most of it now that he had it.

He was going to kick some a**.

It was great to feel so motivated. He could use this to better every part of his life, and that was just the kind of thing he adored. This constant need to be the best was going to keep getting stronger, he was sure of it, the more he explored the Negaverse and all the doors it was opening up for him.

How could this not be the greatest thing ever?

Spotting the do-gooder up ahead, Merlinite slowed. He didn't feel that strong, but he'd been reckless before. He sized up his opponent this time, grinning.

"A little far from the sea, aren't you, Cap'n?"

Vesuvius was lost in his costume oriented musings. He knew a lot of people felt he looked silly. He thought he looked rather dashing as a rogue swashbuckler but his feels were hardly the universal opinion. Not that he should care what the general opinion was but he wanted to keep his suave roguish demeanor. It was the principle of the thing! Perhaps if he saved a few maidens he could get a very nice thank you...

He felt the aura approach before he could see it, his eyes automatically turning to see the new arrival, not that it was hard. He was pulled out of his ponderings by it and took a few moments to size his new acquaintance up as the other man apparently did the same.

"Aren't you a little far from your army base camo kid in King Arthur's Court?"

Try saying that five times fast.

Whether he was actually blind or not remained to be seen but Vesuvius didn't think it was likely. He moved around pretty easily. Flynn moved to stand, feeling like sitting down made him somehow weaker or possibly unprepared. There was no indication yet that this was a peaceful meeting. This guy was, after all, a bad guy. Or at the very least on the wrong side.

"To what do I owe the pleasure?" He smirked. "Out fighting dragons?"

"I don't even know what that's supposed to mean," Merlinite said with a grin. He took being called a kid as a compliment. He was getting near the age when it was certainly one, at least more so than an insult. He grinned at his new opponent, though, cocky with the enthusiasm of a newbie who, though he had lost a few fights already, saw nothing but the world before him.

He gripped his baton tightly in his hand, grinning though he felt a little hesitance if only because he wasn't sure what to expect from this guy. All of the good guys he'd run into so far had been vastly different, and he was learning to be careful.

Ish.

"If you think you're a dragon, then yeah, I am." He grinned and snapped the baton against his other palm. He walked slowly forward, eyes sharp and dangerous. He was taking everything in, trying to remember that he was supposed to be taking notes.

"My name is Merlinite. Feel free to continue the jokes."

"Do I look like a dragon to you, kid? Go home before you hurt yourself."

Vesuvius definitely did not mean kid as a compliment. Lad would have been the compliment or at least an indication of tolerance. Ah, well, he was supposed to meet the Negaverse and so they were meeting. No one said anything about them getting along. Hell, it was even discouraged seeing as they were on the wrong side of the fence with this war.

"Merlinite?" He deadpanned. "You're kidding, right?"

Now it made sense: the dragon, the wand. The camo, not so much but he continued to take the other in, sizing him up quietly. They were both cocky as hell and he didn't actually know what experience Merlinite had or even if he was prone to fighting.

"I'm Vesuvius, of Pluto apparently. Not really in the mood for a fight tonight but if you're itching for one you might as well have at it now."

She shrugged as if to suggest it really made no difference to him anyway and waited to see what the other would do.

Merlinite was sure he was no kid, and he knew the repeated use was meant to rattle him, but since they were bantering he could not complain about semantics. That was all part of the game, after all.

Now why did this guy have a problem with his name? In fact, he wasn't the first to hear it and think it was worthy of some teasing. To Merlinite, he thought the name was cool. It was something people could hear and almost understand what it was, though he had never known there was a mineral called Merlinite until now. Still, the allusion to a wizard wasn't a bad thing.

Who wouldn't want to be able to cast spells on people, and turn them into frogs, or something, if they were pissed off?

Would he be able to do that when he got stronger? Now that would be awesome. He did not know if they got magic or something but whatever happened, he was eager for it.

Vesuvius of Pluto. Merlinite stuck the name in his memory banks. Why was being named after Vesuvius any better than Merlinite, exactly? He didn't bring it up, though, trying to stay focused. He grinned and nodded his head, holding his baton.

"I am very much itching for one. Show me what you got!" Oh, that was an idea. He could still fight people, in pursuit of knowledge for his new team. That was it! It justified his need for violence while keeping himself aligned to the goals of his new boss. Awesome.

Vesuvius had a death toll, at least - a major one. Merlin the Wizard just put a sword in a stone. There was no comparison so far as the Page was concerned. He didn't think much about casting spells or things of magical orgin. He hadn't thought of any of it before he was awakened as a knight and told, unequivocally, that magic was now a part of his life whether he liked it or not.

So it was deal with it or live with it. He was not the sit back on his laurels type so the choice had been fairly clear from the beginning. He nearly yawned as the neophyte proclaimed his need for a brawl. Normally Flynn would have been all for it, and once the blood started pumping in the heat of battle he probably would now, but for the moment he was wholly unimpressed. It was kind of predictable, just what he'd been told would happen by people that knew more than he did.

"If you want to. Come on, then. Have at me, kid."

He wouldn't be the one to start the fight but he would damn sure feel entitled to finish it once it got going. Guess Zee was right about these guys - nothing for it. They were just bad.

"The night's not getting any younger here, kid. Come on if you're going to."

Merlinite watched his new opponent with a grin. Finally an opponent that actually wanted to be an opponent. Maybe a little half heartedly, but hey, Merlinite would take what he could get at this point.

Being in Information would certainly pay off, but his need for blood and pain was still strong, and he would need to fight. Regularly. So this was going to be a good way to get his aggression out without causing a stir or upsetting his current path.

He grinned, holding his baton. It was not the best weapon in the world, not the strongest or best made. But it was beautiful in his eyes. A piece of perfection. And it would only get stronger in time.

He charged then, pulling his arm back to try and swing big on the first go out.

There was not much patience in Merlinite, not with a fight dangling in front of his face.

"Bring it on, my swarthy friend!"

Vesuvius was not impressed.

It wasn't that Merlinite didn't have power or determination and it wasn't that his strike didn't hurt, it did, but the man was just so overblown and eager it was almost sad in a way. Vesuvius stumbled back, blinking, jaw hurting. Of course, he knew the other man's hand probably hurt as much as his jaw. He tried to look bored by all of this and threw his own punch in return, aiming for something a bit softer but at least as vital like his kidneys.

Years of brawling and working out left Vesuvius with some muscle. He was not a weightlifter or anything nearly so impressive but he was not without some power of his own in a fight. Probably as much as a police officer.

"If you think you can handle it." he replied easily, straightening after his hit and keeping his guard up for a return in his direction. He kept his eye on that baton, though, because it was a hell of a lot more useful than a freaking plastic sword. Where was he on weapons assigning day anyway? Out to lunch probably. He hoped it was with a pretty girl.

Merlinite was not really thrown off by the change in attitude the other fighter displayed. White Moon folks were generally wusses, and he was not expecting much else. Sure, he'd had his a** handed to him a few times, but that didn't really count for anything. He was still learning, after all.

Anyway, he was going easy on them. All of them. He'd start being serious soon, obviously.

Right.

Seeing the attack coming he tried to leap backwards and get out of the way, wobbling and setting himself off balance, but not letting himself fall over at least. He was going to do his best this time, damn it.

"Considering I just clocked you one? Yeah, I think I can handle it, Captain Sparrow." He laughed, holding his baton in front of him, definitely ready to use it in this fight. He had no intention of holding anything back. Unless he started to lose, in which case he would get the hell out of there as fast as he could.

"Good, God kid! One hit doesn't win a fight."

It was a little premature to start counting his chickens, or so Vesuvius thought. He'd been in enough fights to know that. One blow could be the turning point but considering he hadn't gone down he hardly thought this hit was one of those game-changers. He watched Merlinite sternly for a moment and then considered his next option. Considering his hit seemed largely dodged He tried again, aiming for his solar plexus to try and give him a quick, hard blow that would be hard to shake off.

Once he threw the punch he stepped back, keeping his guard up ready to block a return hit. He needed to score some kind of hit to make himself feel better about this fight, though. He was a better brawler than this. If he had his way Merlinite would scoot away with his tail between his legs if he had anything to say about it.

"I'd say we're about even now, kid."

Merlinite had different standards, maybe. For him, landing a hit was a big deal, because he rarely got to do that. He was a bad guy that was just starting out and struggling to establish himself in this big war like world he now found himself living in.

He was going to do his goddamn best, and take every hit as a small win, that would all add up to a big win.

All his inner gloating and boasting had him distracted enough to not dodge out of the way of the oncoming hit. The punch landed hard on his chest, though he had managed to turn a little bit, and it sent him stumbling away from his opponent even as Vesuvius backed away from him.

He had to cough before he cleared his throat and got some words out.

"Lucky shot! I just felt bad for you and wanted you to even the score a little. No more free hits," he said, with coughs. He gripped his baton, glad for the little thing and its pension for being there when he needed it, and he charged to swing the small weapon at Vesuvius, aiming for his face.

Because why not the face?

This one Vesuvius managed to dodge since he'd been keeping himself so alert. He even moved to grapple Merlinite as his arm came close, attempting to throw him to the floor. On he ground it would be the Page that would have the advantage, not the other way around. His smirk grew wider as he registered the Lieutenant's words.

"Really? That's a good strategy, kid. How's that workin out for you?"

Whatever else the Negaverse agent was, and he couldn't say for sure what that was yet, he certainly was a cocky b*****d. It was something Flynn could appreciate if the two of them weren't fighting. Maybe if they'd met in a bar they might have gotten along, shared a round or two, and been pals. Such was not the case now, that was certain. But normally confidence that bordered on the cocky side was something he could understand and share. Sympathize.

"Well, allow me to soothe your guilt a bit more."

He lashed out with his leg but it was a lazy blow, aimed to make him flinch more than cause him pain. He was still sporting, even if he sought the advantage.

Merlinite had to wonder when this magical Chaos power he had been given was going to do what he had been promised it would. He was supposed to be a star recruit, someone with potential, that was supposed to achieve great things! He worked hard for it, or as hard as he knew how to, but he couldn't do anything at all.

He couldn't even beat a damn good guy in a fight!

Holding back, though, was not the way to get the advantage on Merlinite. He saw Vesuvius' kick for what it was and planted himself, knowing better than to over react to something that wouldn't do him any damage. So, instead of that, he lashed out with his weapon and opted to just take the kick.

He was ready to give his all to this damn fight, and he swung his baton as hard as he could at the knight's head.

"Whoa!"

Vesuvius followed through with his kick and saw the baton coming much too late. He was beaned in the head and saw stars for a moment, retreating a step or two to regain his composure. Enough time for his enemy to get off the ground if he wanted. It hadn't done a lot of damage but the bump smarted a bit as he glared at his opponent.

"Aren't you supposed to be blind to use that thing?"

Didn't seem right that he got a baton to whack people with and all he got was a measly plastic sword. If he ever met the powers that be he'd have to complain about that first off.

He got back into the fight, though, reaching for the baton with one hand and moving to hit Merlinite in the face with the other. It seemed only fair to return the favor, going for the head and face when he could now that his opponent had established the trend. By now he was rather annoyed and just wanted this over and done with one way or another. This was what Camelot had warned him against, bad guys like Merlinite. He hadn't wanted to fight when this started but damned if he wasn't going to finish it.

As Pappy always said: never start a fight but always finish it.
