Égelfeist

the Wise

Adrift in the valley sat Égelfeist the Wise pondering upon the nature of all and everything as only the mind of a Wizard can bare to stand. There through his thoughtful gaze, standing upon the precipice of his obtuse hut, a flicker of a thought lighted his mind. The Durnhallow is calling... For too long has he been idle in his quest forsaking it to act as sigil and ward of the Northern Territory. He quickened to action and withered his home goodbye with a wave of his staff and a thought of destruction. With a sense of persecution he tracked what sparked this renewal of his quest - a silhouette in his mind dangling to seek discovery. An ardent pace drew him forward until he came upon the glade that sparked his interest. In the centre of the glade a figure stood as would a sentinel taking guard of the present. The figure was beyond sight to notice Égelfeist as of yet. And so an engagement was set, the outcome of which will steer the Durnhallow regardless.

Aria stood with her back toward the newcomer, slender arms crossed over her chest as her foot tapped impatiently on the ground. “Come on, I don’t have all day!” she groaned, her voice still sounding lyrical despite the effort to make it not so. What could the raven-haired girl be complaining about? She was standing in the middle of a clearing, nothing surrounding her but trees and the occasional furry animal scuttling from branch to branch or bush to bush. There was a rather odd boulder nearby, but certainly she was not speaking to it? For a moment she remained silent, waiting, before she sighed dramatically, flailing a dismissive hand in the air. “That’s it. I’m leaving…” she announced theatrically, turning on her heels and stalking off. The Fae only took a few determined strides before spinning back with a ‘Hah!’. Of course, she felt rather silly when the only reply was the call of a mockingbird. Back once more to the approaching stranger, she stared flatly at stone as though it might squirm under her gaze. Was the girl mad, or was she being a typical fae, hoping to lure a human into her trap?

Égelfeist

the Wise

And so Égelfeist the Wise beheld the vexed Fae with an amused composure contemplating her perplexed demeanour. He moved and ordered his posture in one more commanding, steering his staff forward until it came to meet the land as an ardent fell echoing his intent and presence. Upon his aged brow sat the crown of wisdom serving as a sterling testament of his prowess to console the Fae of bitter youth. With his great voice he introduced himself with name and designation of order. In earnest intent and foresight to stay bewilderment he made it his charge to claim himself to be of no threat. Looking at the Fae he pondered upon the circumstances of their meeting, the instance of the insight that reawakened his quest and the Fae being the catalyst. The Fae he then knew was of value he was yet to come to understand. To keep the Fae engaged until he can learn her part to play to a greater extent he simply asked: ''What off change has brought you to the wilds of this vale, to the forsaken regions of the world?''

Aria

Only a few minutes passed before the wizard was heard and Aria knew she was not alone, yet she did not turn to face the man. Perhaps she knew he meant no harm, or perhaps she simply wanted to give the impression that she did not fear him. The thud of the staff on the ground had her twisting her neck slowly to look at him over her shoulder, a dark eyebrow perked, silver eyes watching him questioningly. “...yes?” When the aged wizard spoke, enquiring her reasons for being here, the fae turned around to face him, a dainty hand resting on her hip and a faint smirk tugging at the corner of her rosy lips. “You mean, ‘what are you doing here’?” she simplified. “Well, Monsieur White-Beard, the off chance that hath incited me to journey to these forlorn parts is an entity of gargantuan significance.” Aria thrust a thumb over her shoulder in the direction of the odd-looking boulder, a playful smile spreading over her delicate features. “Don’t be fooled by appearances. It’s not a rock.” It certainly looked like one… not to mention it acted like one. "Now, what are you doing here, sneaking up on girls, old man?"

Égelfeist

the Wise

Time did not permit Égelfeist to humour the Fae's impetuous questioning. As the Fae closed breath the rock revealed it's true nature. Beholden to great magic stood the machination of stone and malice still constructing it's corpus of ire as it gazed with malcontent. Égelfeist took to stance a martial form, being wary of this construct, as he knew the nature of all such stone depravities. His mind was attuned to battle, yet a contemplative thought pierced his fortitude - What purpose holds this construct in the sphere of the Durnhallow?

The thought ceased to be as the stone construct wailed in deviance. An earthen advance came to upon the Fae and Wizard. Fire, the forge of humanity, the purest of destruction's forms and the greatest mastery achieved by Wizards. Within the reservoirs of his power Égelfeist mustered fire, his inner-soul becoming flame imbued. An assault came upon the creviced surface of the stone of fire cast in spherical fashion. Newly cast fire holding true to the primeval legacy of ancient fire gnawing at stone that has weathered decay for ages past. The power of the flames was of much desire, but stone does not give way to fire so idly.
