In this universe. Arcane energy flows in a dimension just outside our own. Is influenced by our very world. It also effects ours. This other dimension can only be described as The Arcane Stream. No living or Undead creature has lived on the Arcane Stream. Living creatures absorb so much of it that they explode. Undead creatures are disintegrated upon entering.

It effects everything in daily life. How plants grow and how creatures live. Scholars and Wizards alike study it at all times. Trying to unlock it's secrets. In doing so invented a concept of Magic. The ability to harness magic into different spells. In order to understand how magic works. We must cover it's creation...

The Gods

The Gods were the first and foremost of the universe. However in their pantheon they had not created anything except mischief and Deceit they had entralled upon each other. Then they had an idea. To create a world of their own. However they did not know how to first create such a world. However some gods knew what they wanted done. These gods created the basic elements that we call: Earth, Fire, Water, and Air. Each with their own dimension. Within them. These separate gods created Elementals. They watched their domains act as they pleased. However something was still missing. Realizing their folly, these four gods united to create world we live on now. The Prime World. The Four Elemental Domains opened gaping portals. Allowing them to flow and clash together as they willed. However they missed something important. The Elements began to fight amongst themselves. Destroying each other. The gods saw this as what they wanted. However after many eternities. The Elements Grew tired of battling each other. In a vicious collision between many of themselves. They created creatures that could Rival the Pantheon. Omni Elementals. They began to lash out in unknown energies. Attacking the gods! In doing so they waged war with the pantheons. The Omni Elementals created The Prime world. The gods saw what the Omni Elementals had done. Inspired by this change of events. They began to mold the world in their own image. Creating the world as they saw fit. The Omni Elementals had effectively trapped themselves in their own creation. The gods sealing them inside it forever. The Omni Elementals were not pleased. They continued to assualt their own creation in hopes to break free. The Pantheon of gods no longer feared them.

However something was still missing. They now had a world that they could manipulate in any shape and form. However no one to praise them for there work. They needed a competent race that would challenge them, but not attack them like before. Thus they created the first species ever to exist.
Dragons...

Power Words

The Creation of Dragons was a grueling battle. To create a perfect and appealing race. Giving them massive size. Claws, Massive Jaws, ability to breath elements and wings for flight. They made a powerful creature. However one God Realized a weakness that the others didn't. Stupidity. They were not smart enough to pose an intellectual challenge. Whilst the gods did not look, he gave The First Dragons thought and the ability to invoke magic like the gods did. Power words. The Dragons have held onto this for thousands of years.

Power words come in two forms. Spoken and Written. Both have their own drawbacks, weaknesses and strengths. Not only that, but consequences to these words.

Spoken words were faster, powerful words that could be used at a whim. Dragons and Gods could use them freely without to much hindrance to themselves. Although Dragons did feel weak after using to many at one time. Dragons could 'speak' in fashions that could wreak havoc upon each other.

Written words (Or runes) were just as powerful as Spoken words. However for some strange reason, they would defeat Spoken words when they did clash. Runes did not take the power of self, but the power of the substance it was written on. However the price to using this subject was destruction to that object. Most Commonly these words were written on the earth, as it seemed to be the least effected by this, If at all. It could be written on trees, however tree's would wither away into nothing. True masters of this magic could write on open flames, and could even right on air. These runes could be written on oneself, however it would cost them what it was written on.

Artifacts

Gods slowly became bored with their new creations. They needed a creature that was powerful and would do their bidding. Thus the invented a creature in their own image! We know them now as Titans. Titans were commanded to forge a weapon of the gods choosing, in which the god would grace it with divine powers that Dragons could only dream of. However one God thought it would be so much fun to deceive the titans into thinking that the gods would betray them. In sight of this, Titans began to attack dragons. Defeating them with the very weapons the gods graced them. They created artifacts that are left unknown. However the known ones are The Nine God Blades. The original order of gods planned to use these blades to keep order in their own realm. However were in dismay when they were used against them. The gods were forced to smite the titans. Destroying their mighty race. But not before the last few titans created something more valuable than any god could ever create. They created the first creatures of earth: Humans, Elves, Dwarves. They created life on earth as we know it.

Magic

Magic Never existed for mortals in these past era's. Magic was only known when The Omni elementals broke free from their earthly binds. The reached out to the elemental planes of existence. Portals opened up and the world was flooded with destruction. Heroes and villains worked together to survive these crucial times. However it was decided that if the mortals wanted to live, it would be up to Mortals to sacrifice themselves to them. In a desperate affair the mortals accepted. Sacrificing hundreds to appease the gods. When they were finally satisfied, they went to war with their old rivals. After many years the dispute was finally ended with a finally attempt. However this event created something new. An entity that could not have been expected. The Arcane Stream. The souls lost and the divine entities created new untold powers. It effected humans forever, however it created a new entity that the world would never expect. The undead. Ever since that event, humans have been studying commands for these spells. However some were born with supernatural powers. The Arcane Flow was then described by the gods as absolute chaos. However when they tried to remove it. It overpowered them and they were subdued by this strange force. Ever since then, the gods have left mortal men alone. Though they still answered faithful servants when it was right. This gave way to a new brand of life. Nothing that Gods, Dragons or Titans could have ever predicted.

Kyvar had brought up an interesting concept that I think should be explored and expanded upon. With this in mind, let's explore the complicated world of...

Metamagics will be additions to names of spells. This is being Drawn from Dungeons and Dragons, and some of them will be used. However their will be a few exceptions to these concepts as this universe doesn't use Spell Slots. Silent Spells and Still Spells will not count towards Metamagic feats. As well as Eschew Material and Ignore Material components.

For humanoid races, casting spells without verbal and gestures is always possible. However it will draw a huge amount of energy from you as it will only be considered as Sloppy execution of a cast. Meaning that it will cost you a lot of energy.

With that, Other metamagics will be considered more as Additional spells. Basic spells that have MetaMagic's applied will be considered an advance spell. As Meta Magic spells applied to advanced spells will be considered a master spell. You CANNOT apply metamagics to master spells. They cannot be applied to rune magic, or power words. They cannot be turned into runes and cannot be enchanted onto weapons or armor. Metamagic will only be applied to casting of spells.

MetaMagic's

Maximizied Spell - The Metamagic is optimized to it's maximum potential. Dealing the maximum amount of damage it can. Spells that don't deal damage or heal others can't be effected by this.

Extended Spell - This Metamagic will increase the range or distance of a spell by double the amount. Spells that can only effect people by touch are not effected by this spell.

Expand Spell - This Metamagic will increase the radius of a spell. If the spell does not involve some form of full circle radius, then it will not work on it.

Penetrating spell - This Metamagic will pierce through magical defenses. However if a spell grants immunity to a type of damage. He will still be immune to that damage, but not the effect. (If something has protection from fire and they are lit aflame by flame missile. They will take impact damage, but not the flame.)

Energy Substitution - This Metamagic will change the energy type of an elemental spell. If the spell does not involve any element, then it won't work. Void does not count as an element, so it doesn't effect it.
