Time: After LuLu's transformation, dusk
Where: Near a fountain
Who: LuLu, Anita (?) and Cruz
What: A first meeting gone wrong
PostPosted: Thu Apr 11, 2013 6:22 pm

The day had nearly drawn to a close. A dusty rose hue tinted the sky above as the sun gave its last farewells. It seemed as though the day would end pleasantly without a hitch. However, that was before a certain frei turned ink monster made her way to the small park downtown.

Her search for ink had been unfruitful; additionally, her desire for mischief was far from sated. Newly found energy prickled at LuLu's skin and left it twitching irritatingly beneath layers of ink. Her fight with Xiu had left the frei in need of an outlet. She busied herself with finding her next target.

Who would be fun to mess with?

Who could she let loose on?

LuLu chuckled wickedly to herself. She realized there was no point in searching someone out. The next person she saw would be a good enough toy to toss around.

The park in downtown Aekea wasn't far off from a well respected auto parts shop, one held in high regard by the Bishop family due to a family friend working there. Anita had driven her mother's car to the shop since Minerva herself had been too busy and Cruz accompanied, never having seen the industrial region before. While Anita was taking care of that, the crocodile frei had been given freedom to explore the nearby park. There was a clear view of it from the large shop windows and Cruz was nearing two years old now; surely he could handle it.

Cruz floated low along the grass, holding his hands out and letting the blades tickle his palms. He didn't enjoy the scent of this place, the smog rising through the air from countless factories stinging his eyes and tickling his throat, so the closer to the ground the better where the natural scents of the earth were strengthened. Despite the nature of the region, Aekea's park was in good repair; the fountain's water was clear and clean, its grass recently mowed and green, and there were even a few delicately arranged small gardens. The scent of fresh mulch so close easily overpowered the smoke and dust in the air.

Being so enraptured with nature below, he nearly overlooked the dark form approaching. It was only as a dark blob in his peripheral came into view and a thick, dark scent wafted by that he looked up and saw what appeared to be a raevan -- a frei, same as him -- dripping and bubbling like they were covered in tar. Cruz lifted himself so he was floating upright but he was still low enough to the ground that his ribbon dragged.

"Ah... You okay?" one hand reached out curiously, his brows knit with confusion. Were raevans supposed to dribble like that? It didn't look comfortable. Or was she just covered in something? Did she fall in oil?

LuLu's face split into a crooked grin, ink seeped from the corners of her lips. What an interesting question. Was she okay? To be honest, the rabbit had no idea what exactly was wrong with her. There were plenty of options. It may have been another fel virus, she may have caught a rare disease, or maybe it was just her destiny to become this monster. No matter what it was, the fact remained that LuLu was cloaked in layer upon layer of ink. The viscous fluid covering her body shifted and twisted. A wet tendril reached out towards Cruz. LuLu's outstretched hand followed after it.

Her fingers slipped into the spaces between the croc's own digits. With a moist squelch she closed her hand around his. LuLu gave his palm a soft squeeze. She felt powerful, too powerful, and it was not right. It was as though LuLu could erupt at any moment. The tendons in her hand itched to coil tighter. She wanted to snap his flesh and bone in one quick movement.

But back to the question at hand, was she ok? LuLu giggled wickedly, "No."

That grin. The seeping ink. Cruz's brows furrowed worriedly as he lifted higher and pulled back. His rune pulsed dully with the rhythm of his heart and his small wings attempted to tuck further against his back but they could not. Cruz flinched slightly at the approaching tendril, leaning his head away from it. His hand was still held out. He had forgotten he had made the motion at all until a cold wet squelch sounded and the seeping creature's fingers intertwined with his own. Erroneously, this served to calm the croc. Though he still held an expression of concern, his tension deflated with a sigh and a sympathetic smile crept to his face. It only lasted long enough for her to laugh, then disappeared again.

"No?" he repeated. Had he heard her right through her giggle? If she was laughing and smiling, what could be wrong? "Do you need help? Do you need the Lab?"

Cruz floated closer, holding her inky hand tighter for a moment then recoiling as he felt his fingers might seep into her flesh. He was trembling, just slightly, just enough to show weakness. His other hand reached out experimentally, a very hesitant approach towards her face. "What can I do?"

LuLu's smile faltered with each question Cruz tossed her way until it nothing more than a hopelessly lopsided crescent, tinged the slightest bit with desperation. Her hand snapped up and snatched the croc's wrist. She squeezed it ruthlessly, "You can't." Ink dripped from her clenched fist and down Cruz's wrist. Her glossy eyes bore into him.

The rabbit was past help now. Where had this frei been weeks ago when the sickness was only a few splotches across her arms? Where was he when there was still hope? He was nowhere to be found then. Just like everyone else. Sevilin, We'rika, and even Josh had let her down. They spent day after day with her yet each one had been oblivious to her ailment. However, she was most pained by the fact that she had failed herself. LuLu had been unable to conquer this on her own and now she was paying the price.

LuLu seethed, "Nobody can."

Any hint of concern on Cruz's face instantly shifted to shock when Lulu grabbed his wrist. He let out a short whimper of protest, attempting to twist out of her grasp but her hand was strong and the slick ink made it impossible for him. She had both of his hands trapped and when she squeezed he attempted to wriggle to no avail. His wings thrashed uselessly against his shoulders, his rune glowed and pulsed frantically in time with his heart.

"L-let go," he pulled and tugged and attempted to fly back in a frenzy but LuLu had him fixed to the spot, "Please!" Cruz's green eyes were wide and wild, sharp teeth gritted in defense and effort.

Playing nice wasn't working and he was becoming more terrified by the second, not to mention the pain shooting through his arms. His brows upturned, looking helpless until it was too much. His fight or flight senses kicked in and fleeing wasn't an option. He leaned close to her, their noses just an inch or two from touching. Cruz flashed his teeth, opening his mouth wide as he let out a prehistoric rumble. Words carried on the tail end, a clear demand that rippled from his throat. "LET GO!"

Cruz's roar served as the push that sent LuLu over the edge. She felt a tingle run down her small spine. It was one of both fear and excitement. Did this frei want to challenge her? She hoped so.

Her grip was firm on him and refused him twisting free. The rabbit wanted him captured and close. She wanted to relish his expressions as they shifted from terrified to determined. This was different from her run in with Xiu. She had no history with Cruz to distract her from taking pleasure in testing out her newly discovered powers... on him.

She released one hand and gripped the back of the croc's head. LuLu reeled the boy in close, probably straining his neck in the process of bring him down to her eye level, then she spoke. The words practically moved between their lips. Her tone was neither guttural nor growling. "Make me."

Her next action was one he couldn't have hoped to predict. Cruz's body moved closer to lessen the strain on his neck and the pull on his hair from ink clinging, but his eyes were still wide and defensive, teeth bared as his muscles tensed and tightened to protect himself from further being jerked around. Instinctively his jaws gnashed once, a reptilian growl curling from his throat just before he froze at the smooth demand.

Never in his life had he wanted legs so badly. He wanted to wrestle with this intimidating creature like the men on TV, to free himself of her any way possible, but with how much of a body he lacked it was difficult to move while held. For a brief moment he recalled back to the hedge maze and the vines that ensnared him. Axel was the one to suggest relaxing against their grasp to be given freedom, and indeed the more violent his escape attempts became the tighter she held, but even when he was calm she held fast. This wouldn't be a matter of intelligence, it was a matter of instinct -- and he fell past that edge just as LuLu did.

A short roar was the only warning given as he jerked his arm back, pulling hers with it. Cruz's teeth sunk into the seeping ink of the rabbit's wrist, tongue lashing in an effort to avoid the taste. His jaws were strong; though he wasn't giving his full strength in the bite, he was sure something was pierced and she felt solid in his mouth. Was she really just covered in the stuff rather than made from it? Was it just an inky outer layer or was he mistaken? Cruz's other arm jerked forward, fingers entangling themselves in her hair and tugging, pulling her away from the arm he was biting. If he could get just one hand free...

Lu's throat released a low chirp as Cruz latched into her. Her reflex was to tighten her hold in his green hair. His long locks were already being pulled from his neatly set ponytail and were splaying down his back. LuLu's pigtails were in equal disarray from her previous fight with Xiu and, now, Cruz's own fingers twining their way into her ink coated tresses.

Cruz had given Lu the painful lesson that teeth were not just for show or to give him a cute little lisp. Each pointed fang had pierced past her ink and was sunk into her wrist. Pain radiated down her arm and she had to struggle to not show it in her face. Nevertheless, LuLu was not some hot fudge sundae with a ribbon attached, a drippy coating was not the only function her ink served. The rabbit still had some tricks up her sleeve. Some she did not even know about.

Cruz could probably feel it on his tongue and in his gums as LuLu made her next move. The flesh between his lips was softening, nearly gummi in consistency. His teeth sank further and further into the gooey flesh until his jaw completely clamped closed with a harsh snap. LuLu's wrist continued to liquefy until it was merely ink sitting in the croc's maw. The frei pulled her dismembered forearm away from Cruz. She turned the limb over and inspected it. LuLu tilted her head towards her opponent to gauge his shock as well. Her glossy eyes were wide in wonder. LuLu amazed herself with her own feat.

The frei turned monster willed her skin, tendons and bone to reform. Her inky coating quivered and took shape, but it was unable to solidify into anything functional. At least, not instantaneously. LuLu was stuck with one hand laced in Cruz's hair and the other left as a messy stub.

The taste of ink caused him to choke and gag but he did not relent in his grip, even as the pain from having his hair pulled increased and he let out a sharp whine. He struggled and pulled against her grasp but it was a useless effort with him still attached to her by the mouth, only worsening the pain and ripping out a few loose strands completely. His eyes widened suddenly, feeling his teeth sink further despite making no effort to do so. Cruz sputtered with confusion, face contorting with pain and disgust alike as the ink threatened to seep further into his mouth. Just when he thought he might swallow some he let out a stiff cough and his jaws clamped together.

His jaws instantly separated from the sudden ache, ink leaking from his lips as she pulled away. He didn't understand but he also didn't think about it until he opened his eyes again and saw the result. The croc's mouth quivered weakly, eyes wide and horrified as he saw her arm flail uselessly while rebuilding itself. There was a vague awareness of a wet slap against the ground, the rest of her arm that he accidentally severed so easily like part of a worm. He didn't even feel her fingers in his hair at that moment; all he could do was stare in terror as her arm attempted to return -- weak and limp but shaping itself.

"ANITA!" the call ripped out of him like a bellow, his voice accompanied by that reptilian snarl. It almost sounded like two different voices, his own filled with fear while the other shook with an animalistic attempt at intimidation. She was still too far to hear him, he knew, but the attempt was made. His rune pulsed violently as he pulled away, small wings flapping so uselessly. Cruz pulled and tugged and growled, tears clouding his vision but refusing to fall because he couldn't bring himself to close his eyes or even blink.

Their movements were clumsy, floating as they were, jagged tugs in one direction, then another with no planning or thought. All he wanted to do was get away from her, separate and flee, but she held fast. He didn't even notice the fountain behind them or that each of his haphazard escape attempts were pulling them closer to the water.

Cruz's reaction was better than anything LuLu could have anticipated. Fear. There was so much fear and horror in his green eyes they looked like they were about to jump right out of his head and run away. Lu felt a twinge of pride. That was the response a proper monster should receive. Nonetheless, the younger frei's voice also held a detached hum of aggression that chilled Lu to her core. It was a predatory noise that threatened the girl to her very soul. The mixed signals were leaving LuLu in a fog of amusement. While Cruz bellowed for his guardian, the rabbit giggled to herself. The sound verged on psychotic.

LuLu was dead set on keeping her one useful hand latched in Cruz's hair while her lame limb recovered. Progress was being made even as they struggled. A skeleton had been regenerated which gave her new hand some structure beneath the layers of ink coating it. Nevertheless, the new tissue was still numb and delicate. LuLu would not use it against her opponent just yet.

LuLu's movements ebbed and flowed with Cruz's. As he pulled back she would lean forward. When he eased she would take the slack. Together they were twisting and thrashing as though they were caught in some bizarre tribal dance. She barely noticed the distance they were covering either or how close the fountain behind her was looming. What she did notice was the numbness in her injured arm turning into a tingle then a radiating burn as its nerves reformed from ink. LuLu gave her restored hand a flex to insure all its synapses had healed correctly. She fought through the pain caused by the use of her raw nerves, skin was still absent under the ink. Her fingers each curled in time all receiving the signals from her brain in tandem as they ought to. LuLu could not wait any longer. She had enough dancing around. She wanted to get another response from Cruz. The rabbit reared her still incomplete hand back then struck the croc in the jaw.

LuLu immediately regretted the decision. Every nerve screamed at her for her hastiness. She could not help but emit a scream of her own. Her amusement was quickly overshadowed by the echo of her tortured hand. An agony filled tear oozed from her empty eye, but it was lost in the ink on her face.

If he had legs the hit to the jaw would have caused him to stumble. Instead, it caused his position in the air to falter lower and he let out a pained whine after a second or two of initial shock. The sound was devoid of the reptilian growl he'd had before, just a childish yelp. His hand fell away from her hair in surprise and Cruz quickly looked up when the creature before him let out a sound of pain herself. It all happened in the matter of a few seconds, just as the back of his half formed spine smacked roughly against the edge of the fountain.

His balance was thrown off, already weak and confused, and his desire to float finally gave out just above the water. He felt himself start to fall and, though it was a short way, he reached out and grabbed a tight hold of LuLu's ears as if to try and pull himself back up. The action only caused her to be pulled in with him, regardless of her claws still digging into his hair and against his scalp. He let out another shout of surprise as he broke the water's surface, first sinking, bumping the shallow bottom with his back, and rising quickly to gasp for breath as his head emerged. Cruz choked on the water in his throat and lungs, hair a mess and ribbon floating away. As soon as he was back up his grip on her ears ended and instead he groped and clawed at her hand in an attempt to pry it off, if it was even still there at all; he could barely tell.

The fountain was a large and elaborate display, one that would shoot off some aqua jets from beneath the water every few minutes alongside the elegant streams that leaked down into the contained surface. Coins littered the bottom, making the fall even more uncomfortable. Several people in the park had their attention drawn to them now, forming a small but ever growing crowd that kept their distance but was still keenly observant. It was this crowd that caught Anita's attention from the shop window across the block and she excused herself while her car was still being worked on. At first her approach was from simple curiosity but when she couldn't spot Cruz among the crowd she began to panic and ran to close the distance.

LuLu would have screamed and thrashed as she was pulled down to the bottom of the fountain with Cruz. She would have, if she wasn't so stunned. The rabbit's ears buzzed with pain as they were used to hoist her into the clear blue water. As soon as she entered, ink flowed and dissipated into the pool like sheer grey ribbons had spooled around her body.

She tried to choke back the water that had infiltrated her nose and mouth when she had been dunked unprepared. LuLu unlaced her fingers from Cruz's scalp to cough into her hand. A gummy trail of ink connected her palm to her lips like a tether before it faded away into the water. LuLu suddenly froze in place as she noticed what was happening. The sensation ran to her core. The ink on her skin was becoming watered down. The frei could feel herself weakening by the second as the water sapped strength from her overblown essence.

LuLu broke water's the surface. She slung her wet hair back in a glorious arc. Diluted ink splattered the spectators who had ventured too close and they released a few cries of shock. The rabbit cocked her head at them .Yet, everything was blurred and mucky. Her vision looked as though she was seeing everything from behind a glass of water. Lines wiggled and bent until definite shapes were impossible to discern. Cruz was forgotten for now. The water was doing much worse thing to her than the croc could.

LuLu needed to get out of that fountain fast.

Cruz sputtered and flailed in the water, getting as far from his inky attacker as possible once she released him. He kept himself mostly submerged, nose and eyes above the water and his eyes were wide, wild. The frei ceased moving once he saw the ribbons of ink trailing away from her, her outer coating almost seeming to melt and dribble. He was as shocked as she was at this sudden turn of events, though the winner of the Most Shocked award, 2013, was Anita who stood a few feet from the fountain, mouth agape.

Once the creature arched back, spraying the surrounding people with water and ink, Anita was brought back to reality. A wet slap to the face, covering her cheek and getting in her hair, prompted her to rush to Cruz's side and pull him from the fountain but he rebuffed, clinging to her arms in kind and holding fast. Anita could only stare at the dark, dripping form. It didn't click immediately but the rabbit ears, the messy braids, and the body ribbon reminded her enough once her mind caught up to speed.

She knew this creature.

"...LuLu?" her voice came out shaky, muffled among the crowd's murmurs, but her ears were sensitive enough.

Cruz turned to glance at her, eyes wide with confusion and lingering fear. Why did Anita know this thing? She wouldn't associate with dangerous, mean, frightening things like this, so did that mean something happened to change the LuLugirl into this? He didn't understand.
