The night was cool, for all that it was supposed to be spring, apparently no one mentioned that to the weather, the only spring like attribute was the almost constant drizzle of rain that illuminated street lights in hazy halos.
With a longsuffering sigh Aubrey shuffled out of the back door of the Ace of Spades being sure to lock the door after her. With a flick of her wrists Aubrey brought her hood up and over her head as meager protection against the annoying trickle of water around her. Every now and then a large droplet of water would splash near her or on her shoulders as she stood for a moment trying to remember if she had done everything necessary for closing.
Floors cleaned, tables wiped down and sanitized, bathrooms cleaned, drawers counted down, lights off, garbage taken out, doors locked.
Everything was as it should be but Aubrey felt on edge, as if something were about to happen. It was late and Aubrey had a long day so it could just be stress and or tiredness. Shaking her head she stepped off the small stood and cursed her lack of an umbrella, at least her boots were relatively waterproof and would suffer the least from her long walk in the rain.
Aubrey warily crossed the street and eyed her short cut home, she was a little on edge about going this way since she was attacked last time she had, but the wet weather made her want to get out of it as fast as possible so she turned towards the park and broke out into a light jog trying to be as aware of her surroundings as possible, keeping her guard up in case she was attacked.

Lyssa had watched the red headed girl enter her park, her domain, with a slight sizzle of excitement. Not that she knew what it meant or how to express it but either way the kitten enjoyed the buzz of electricity that caused her wet fur to stand up on end and make her toes curl upon the branch. She watched Aubrey’s slow journey through the park, it shadows dancing on the ground around her, reaching for her and finally swallowing her as she dipped in and around fountains and benches to reach her destination. “It’s such a shame, that she will never reach it tonight” The tree sap was talking to her again. Nodding wistfully Lyssa agreed with the sticky substance and nuzzled it affectionately in response, plastering down the last few strands of fur that the rain hadn’t caught. “Me..owth, yes, I can see her, sme-ll her.” She aimed herself down towards a lower branch, her back end wiggling, about to pounce into ajump that a gymnastic would be jealous off but what all cats processed. Except this one of course. Lyssa just walked off the branch, straight and true until gravity took hold and flung her to the floor. She landed in a mud puddle, relatively unfazed at her change of scenery and began to run after the girl, her front and back legs moving as one in a strange hopping, galloping motion. This was truly the way to fly (as Lyssa saw it) and she made unnatural good progress towards her pray. Her little voice screaming into the night sky “Pew-pew……… pew-pew………….ZAP!..............Pew-pew”
Eerie….

As Aubrey ran through the park her unease grew with each stride and she felt as if she was being chased. Swallowing hard she picked up her pace and started to run. It was then that she heard the strange noise but she couldn't tell where it was coming from. Fearing that it might be another youma she looked around as she ran as possible scenarios went through her head of what she could do to evade an attack or fight back she thought she was prepared for everything, but she was sorely mistaken. The sound grew louder as the small cat drew closer but due to its small size when she looked over her shoulder she saw nothing but heard the odd cry getting closer and louder. Due to looking behind her Aubrey failed to spot an unruly root that was growing out into the path, as her foot made contact with the root and she stumbled she whipped her head back to the front so as she fell she didn't break her neck. Aubrey rolled with the fall and ended up facing in the opposite direction as she scanned for whatever was chasing her.

She had half forgotten why she was running until she heard the yelp of a voice and the crunch of grass, soil and bones upon wet ground. The girl had tripped! Or she was trying to copy Lyssa in her excellent running technique, except she was doing a terrible job of it! Lyssa still pounding the floor with her hopping style ran towards her, her eyes wide and illuminated by the night sky, her voice still calling out to the clouds.
"Pew - pew, pew pew, pewpewpewpewpewpew" Who knew where she had heard the Jaw's theme from but it sounded right. It sounded right."PEW PEW PEW PEW---WWW! GOTCHA!" She leaped, graceful and silent towards the girls, her front paws tucked in as her legs sprang her tiny frame forwards. She hit the girls leg with force causing any distraction she may have to look down at her limbs. But then again if a running, leaping cat hadn't caught her eye she would definitely feel Lyssa's paws snaking their nails into her leg as she flicked her tail back and force "Gotcha....gotcha good i did...
Lyssa had forgotten the key rule of not freaking out potential blood and let her voice ring out no matter how unusual it sounded. She did not care, she had found a leg."...this is my leg" Skysu Did Kyu warn you what an RP was like with Lyssa around XD

For a moment Aubrey wondered if she had hit her head on the fall as the cat leapt out of the shadows meowing the jaws theme. For a moment she just blinked at the cat wondering if she was going crazy when the cat suddenly launched itself at her leg with sharp claws digging into her calves and sap getting on her leggings. If a cat coming out of nowhere and attacking her leg wasn't strange enough it then opened its mouth and spoke to her. Aubrey frowned not quite sure if she was hearing correctly until it proclaimed her leg for its own. "Um no... That's my leg" was all she could think to say her mind was whirling and threatening to start freaking out. Cats were not supposed to talk, but then there weren't supposed to be giant creatures roaming around attacking people but there were still youma attacking people. This was certainly a strange city. "Why were you chasing me?" She questioned not quite sure If she wanted it to answer her or not.

Lyssa had a firm grip on the leggings and wouldn’t be easily shook off if tried, although a quick bash to the head would probably do it. Lyssa though had commenced operation delta, or “randomlickinghappytime” upon Aubrey and began scratching her rough tongue on the patch of legging she had before her. Her sense alighted with the smell of hidden secrets and swirls of chance, her mind ticked to the swinging beat of lady luck and her body shook with the groove. Either that or she was having a seizure but Lyssa vibrated and twisted happily as she continued to try and lick the patch of now very wet material in front of her.
Tongue still out she tried to answer the girls funny and very obvious questions. “Be-e caus-tth thor th-one of-thhh theigh the-thurssss” or something to that effect as she nodded seriously at the girl beneath her and began purring happily, her dried out muscle slowly going back in her mouth as she remembered that she needed to swallow and breath to survive.
“Me-oth, and aS one of MY treasure you aRe so full of beaNs! Not the green KiND but the PurplE ones, Kidney I believe or was it SplEen? We Must Find YoU a PuPPet On a sTRing!” As if on cue she started screeching loudly into the air, her howls making any back alley fight between cats sound calming and peaceful.

Aubrey blinked as the cat started to attack her leg with licks and weakly tried to shake the feline off, but the sharp p***k of her claws stopped the action. Aubrey looked around trying to determine if this was reality or if the world was ending or something, however all seemed to be normal... except for the cat licking her leg and talking to her. However she wasn't quite sure what it was saying so it could have been her imagination. "Beans?" Aubrey questioned, now wondering if the cat was the crazy one, she was so confused and befuddled that she just sat there on the ground and waited for something to happen that would actually make sense wincing in discomfort at the sharp claws and now soaked leggings. When the cat began to screech Aubrey brought her hands up to cover her ears. "What the hell is wrong with you cat?" Aubrey spluttered as she attempted to shake the cat loose again.

Remarque might not have been a model citizen, but any amount of screeching of that caliber was enough to warrant investigation. He darted through a mirror to take a shortcut, trying to pinpoint the source; he hadn't been too far to begin with, though he had gotten spoiled with all the mirrors that had been laid out before him.
A large mirror was hidden amidst a malformed tree; he stepped from it and approached.
…He should have known from Lyssa.
There was only one creature in the world who could make such abominable noises, and it was her.
"Lyssa, what in Hell's name are you doing?" Was she trying to summon everyone in a half mile vicinity? He looked to the girl she was so focused on but froze when he recognized her. His whole demeanor changed immediately. "Aubrey," he greeted, a bit more formally than he had the cat. She received the same question despite the slightly warmer reception, however; "What are you doing?"
…And why was Lyssa so interested in her?

Aubrey started once more as she heard a voice behind her, she jumped slightly and turned her head and was surprised to see Remarque emerging from the trees, 'When did he get there? Why didn't I notice him approaching?' Aubrey wondered as she squinted at him. Noticing that he had addressed the cat directly helped to prove in her mind that she wasn't going crazy... not exactly the most comforting thought since the alternative was that a crazy cat came out of nowhere and started talking to her. At that point Aubrey just wanted to go home and go to bed. "What am I doing? I was jogging home when this cat came out of nowhere and started chasing me, and then started talking to me! Now I've got dirt on my skirt and cat drool on my leggings and I just want to go home!" She cried becoming overwhelmed with the whole situation.

Lyssa howls erupted into ear splitting joyfulness at the sight of Remarque appearing, his energy spiking her senses as soon as he stepped through the mirror it wasn’t until she saw him that she stopped screeching for her much needed attention. Grinning from ear to ear as any cat could (which is difficult)she bounded towards him, her ginger paws flickering up to his stringed accessories as if she had forgotten Aubrey was even there. Although Lyssa barely recognized when someone wore anything really it was the first time seeing him in his new fuku and she made easy work at trying to pull the new adornments from his body, his feather bow a desirable chew toy ready for the taking.
“Meeowth…hmmm…four and tWEnty BlaCK birds baKEd in a pIE…HmMm Pie...I EnjOy Pie….BuT I see NO reason to RetUrn bacK there ReMarque, I was NevEr ONE for politics But YoU are looking VerY Dashing. How DiD YoU get Your ButtoNs so Hypothetical?” She brushed her body around his legs as she spoke, whirling round his ankles as she left a trail of wet cat hair and sticky sap on his boots. Her purrs echoed around them like a tractor being started and she mewed for attention that would surely come from her best friend.
“Can you not SeE? Can yoU not SmeLL hEr? Behind the Ears, where The Nutrients are kept, or the sofT mould of the UnderBelly. Can You NOT Smell? She Is PerfECT do You Not Agree??” She was prodding a paw at Audrey now who had finally erupted into the emotion that most people would be feeling at this confusing event and it just made Lyssa more ecstatic. “Look! she Is So HAPPY!”

Remarque wore a phenomenally bland expression as the cat brushed against him; he seemed irked—exasperated—at the cat's riddles. And then the wet cat hair.
Thank you, Lyssa. Really.
"I think you've got your emotions a little mixed up," he said to the cat, wriggling his foot a bit to try and dispel the wet fur. "She looks confused to me. Though, perhaps you could assist us?" he asked, glancing at Aubrey. He did not speak to her, but he hoped the locked eyes would serve as communication enough; he was trying to reassure her even as he attempted to decipher Lyssa's message.
"My eyes don't see what you see. Nor is my nose as keen as yours. Not to mention, Lyssa—hasn't anyone told you? It's a bit inappropriate for sophisticated folks to wander around smelling each other. I'll just take your word for it. But please, tell me about this perfection."
He really didn't want to throw Aubrey into Mirrorspace and drain her so dry she couldn't remember any of this; whatever Lyssa was prattling about, he just hoped it was good.
And also a little less creepy, because damn. Even her compliments were enough to summon goosebumps.

Cocking her head to the side Lyssa mulled over what Remarque was trying to tell her. How could he not smell that aura? Was he totally blind? This boy really didn’t make sense sometimes! She turned towards Aubrey, her ears twitching feverishly as she approached her, her minds eye focusing on her starseed with deep concentration until the voice she knew would help her piped up. Slow and calm and full of secrets she let it speak the words she couldn’t fathom in her addled brain. She let it explain.
“She has potential Remarque. I can see it in her starseed, she is blessed by Ares, connected to your cause. She has a place in our ranks if you let it be so. Welcome her to your court with open arms and a heavy heart; wake her up tonight, save her from this life.” The eloquent voice ended abruptly as Lyssa pawed once again at Aubrey’s arm. Her iris un-dilating from the black mass it had become to the slits that were so common for the feline. She started humming the jaws tune again, staring deep into Aubrey’s eyes.

Aubrey was starting to freak out even more now, with Remarque's appearance the cats strange actions grew as she turned her attention to Remarque. Aubrey's eyes were pleading for some sort of explanation of what was going on as she looked at him. What were they even talking about? Potential? Starseeds? something about Ares? It was all so foreign to her she just wanted to get away from it all, and the other voice the cat took on was even creepier than she was before and was almost glad that the cat returned to humming the jaws theme because it seemed normal... well normal for what she knew of this cat. "Not that this isn't all fascinating, but I really need to go home." Aubrey muttered as she attempted to stand up and brushed off her knees, the fall was a little rougher than she'd like and would have to get a new pair of leggings after ripping them up on the ground and the cat getting sap all over them, 'great one more thing to worry about.'

Lyssa speaking so eloquently took Remarque off guard almost as much as the message she was delivering. "I see," he murmured, allowing the information to sink in. The gears of mental process were grinding erratically; as he turned his gaze to Aubrey and his curiosity consumed him, the Jaws tune started to sound suspiciously like the Jeopardy theme to him.
"Aubrey," he said, voice almost apologetic, "I don't think I can let you go home just yet. Unfortunately, I think I have business to tend to with you." He resumed a professional tone, slick with what charm he could manage to lace each word with. "Let me make you a proposition. My," he hesitated to use the word, "friend, here, Lyssa, is somewhat of a connoisseur. She specializes in locating individuals who possess great power. According to her, you have potential unmatched by the ordinary citizen. You can do one of two things right now. You can go home, pretend like this never happened, and continue to live your normal, every day life—squandering that potential and abandoning, perhaps, the greatest path your life could ever take. Or."
He took an extra second to pause, to build up the anticipation. "You can come with me, and I will show you a power unlike anything you have ever dreamed. And in return, I ask only your allegiance and assistance within this Court—the Dark Mirror Court. I will give you a moment to consider. Know only that this is an opportunity presented to few, and that in accepting you have nothing to lose and so much to gain."
And if she said no now, he figured he could always try to bribe her with a music box.

"Why can't I go home? I thought you were a good guy, are you going to keep me here against my will!" She cried before falling silent after he continued talking and listened to what he had to say. Aubrey stared at him blankly for a few seconds before comprehension donned on her face. "You have GOT to be kidding me..." She muttered in exasperation. Seriously, couldn't she just live a somewhat normal life? Albeit it wasn't perfect and wasn't without its rough patches, but she could barely manage to keep her life straight with just work, school, and her crazy home life and now they wanted her to add in this? Aubrey dropped her head in her hands and shook her head, it was too much, far too much! How could she possibly accept this, that she was like all of those crazy people running around and causing so much havoc in this weird town. But then.... She looked up at Remarque who had saved her before from the dark things in the night. She was no wimp by human standards, but to gain access to the power he did? She would never need saving again and she could better protect the ones she loved, though they would never know about it. Aubrey considered Remarque for a long moment, tapping her fingers against her thigh along with the rhythm of Lyssa's humming. "Would you really let me go back to the way things were?" She questioned suspiciously, "Or am I being shanghaied into this regardless?" She added wanting to know the truth, and if she really had a choice.
