✥ Characters :: Etain and Akemi ✥ Location :: Cottage near Poena Privus.
Akemi's stomach growled again.
The pain was getting crippling, she needed to eat. Soon. She stoked her empty belly and let out a disappointed sigh. She had no money for food, nothing in her packs and she doubted that she could hunt anything nearby large enough for her appetite. Especially when she was still malnourished. She was going to die.
She closed her eyes and tried to distract her mind from food. Only to have her nostrils filled with a glorious aroma. Her mouth instantly filled with saliva and her stomach growled once more, this time loud enough to be heard by others in the area.
She followed her nose, sniffing the air enthusiastically. She was going to find the source of that wonderful smell!
Before she knew it she was at a window, a kitchen window at that. Inside the cottage, dinner was bubbling away. The she-b***h licked her lips and slunk through, pulling her dirty, blooded body inside. If she had a tail, it would be wagging right now.
Crossing her legs on the counter she reached out and grabbed a freshly baked loaf.
She held it to her face.
Took in a deep breath to sample the smell.
Then shoved it in her mouth greedily.

Standing in the shadowed doorway of her pantry, numbly cradling a basket of root vegetables, Étaín looked on in fascinated horror as some...thing dragged itself into her kitchen and began to systematically demolish her dinner. And breakfast. And courtesy offerings. The girl had thought she heard growling while choosing potatoes, and apparently she had: of a stomach.
Her bread for the next few days of breakfast was long gone; it appeared the next victim was the cranberry, orange, and ginger scones she had planned to have available for the customers in her boutique. Absently, she wondered if the food still cooking was safe.
Opening her mouth to address the creature, Étaín slowly closed it again after a few moments.
She had no idea what to say. Or do.
And whatever it was? It was disgustingly dirty, and it was sitting on her white marble counter.
Indigo eyes narrowed and began to glow; the room chilling noticeably as her glare sharpened.

Akemi, blissfully unaware of the fact she had company, kept devouring everything she could get her hands on. It was all so lovely looking, so tasty, food, glorious food! She would not stop until she burst! Her complements to the chef!
Then she felt the temperature plummet.
The wolf girl wrapped her arms around her mostly bare frame, her cheeks still filled with food like a hamster. She was freezing all of a sudden. Her head tilted backwards slowly, finally catching a glimpse of the homeowner. She seemed, cheerful.
Akemi swallowed the food that was in her mouth and then twisted her body around to face the other.
There was a moment of silence as the two women stared at each other.
Then finally...
"Well, are you going to make a cup of tea or not?"

Remaining stock-still, Étaín's eyes flared wide before she blinked once. And then, twice.
This... girl dared to invite herself in, eat a stockpile of food, and then practically demand to be served?!
Drawing in a deep breath to regain control over her temper, the ice witch gracefully moved into the cheerfully lit, but now significantly chilled kitchen and silently placed her armload on the counter next to the sink. She would prefer to not freeze her basket and the contents; it was aggravating to replace items frozen and shattered in fits of rage.
Efficiently, with understated-grace, Étaín slowly set about with preparations for making tea---all the while, ignoring her menace of a ...house guest. Placing water on to boil, she took a peek at the fowl she had roasting that was, thankfully, still intact in the oven. It was browning nicely and should finish right about the same time as the potatoes. A self-satisfied smile almost made it's way onto the girl's face; until she recalled present company. Since the creature obviously wasn't going to go away, she ought to at least find out how she was ...fortunate enough to be the one entertaining her appetite.
Moving back to the sink, Étaín because to methodically peel and chop the potatoes. Her voice carried easily through the near-silent room; soft and frigid as the first snowfall.
"I'm curious as to how you ended up in my home. Uninvited."

"Short story. I was hungry and I smelled food."
Akemi stated rather bluntly, licking her lips and leaning back against the kitchen wall quite casually, as if nothing was wrong about this rather odd situation. She was curious, was everyone in this land so opposed to company? It always amused her how they were more likely to feed wild animals than they were other people. Baffling.
"Just think of me as a stray dog coming over for dinner. Everyone likes dogs!"
Even in the streets most avoided eye-contact, yet they would stop and pet a animal. Akemi did not suffer from such a problem, and was desperately trying to look the girl in the eyes, they revealed so much. Maybe if she sensed that she was no threat, the other girl might loosen some of the tension that the she-b***h had noticed in her composure.
"See it as a compliment, Your food smelled better than any other in the area! You are quite a good chef."
Akemi rested a hand on her stomach, she was stuffed, for the moment. Still, she felt a chill to the air which was proving hard to shake off or ignore. She shook her head and looked over the girl, who possessed quite a feminine beauty.

A stray dog?! Why would she feed a stray dog, it would just come back hoping to be fed again. She shuddered to think about it; nasty, drooling, shedding, pillow-shredding beasts. Why anyone would keep a pet of ANY sort was entirely beyond her comprehension.
Sliding the chopped, rinsed potatoes into a pot already simmering and emitting the scent of various herbs, onions, and garlic, Étaín lifted the now-steaming tea kettle from the back of the stove to pour over her homemade tea blend to steep.
A... compliment. I see. Well then I suppose I shall say thank you." Her voice was flat, but her movements remained fluid and graceful as she moved about her kitchen generally tidying and checking on her various pots and pans. The majin was angry, and refused to put effort into being a good hostess to her uninvited guest---but had to admit her curiosity was piqued; it took a great deal of confidence to waltz into a foreign home and feast because the food smelled good.
Or perhaps it was desperation... that would not be nearly as admirable.
Reaching up to retrieve two cups from the cabinet, Étaín poured the tea leaving a cup for herself next to the stove and carrying one with some reluctance over to the she-wolf still lounging on her counter. Placing the tea on the counter and turning to walk away, the ice witch hid a small smirk. Her temper had gotten the better of her after all; the tea she left for her ...guest... was frozen solid. Straightening her face, she scooped up her own steaming cup and casually leaning her hip against the counter; brilliant indigo eyes focused on the redhead in an almost unsettling manner.
Let's ...start again. I am Étaín and I suppose I may as well welcome you to my home." Pausing, Étaín frowned a bit, floundering a bit for what to say. "Are you new to the area? Or is inviting yourself to dinner a common occurrence..." She paused, taking a sip of her tea and awaited a response.
...or a reaction to the 'iced' tea.

In truth, Akemi did not even notice there was anything wrong with the drink, she did not expect there to be. The cup could contain poison and she would be none the wiser. Maybe not the smartest move on the girls behalf, however she had a weak-spot when it came to food, in her eyes nobody would be despicable enough to to taint such treasured substance. Now when so many went to sleep hungry on a night. Food was innocent. Food was good. Food did not deserve to be tainted for someones personal vendetta.
Her ear flopped a little, tilting her head to the side and smiling as the girl addressed her. Akemi supposed she should tell the girl the truth, afterall she had provided her with a cure for her tummy rumbles. She picked up the cup and blew on it in order to cool the (supposedly) warm liquid. Even the cold sensation running through her fingers did not send alarm bells to the vacant brain of hers, she really was clueless.
"I guess you can say I am a foreigner. I do not know if my old home counts as part of these lands or a different one entirely. But no, I have not been her long at all. The ship got here a couple of weeks ago - I am heading to Poena Privus."
Well, in truth she was heading to the Capital, but taking a little bit of a detour. She had learned that powerful witches lurked in that dark place and she wanted to find them. Though that was her business, not that of a stranger, not many understood her lust for battle - and the girl was far too used to keeping secrets to share that information. Akemi smiled and brought the cup to her lips, tilting it and...
What?
Why?
She paused for a moment, a very confused expression on her face. Had she forgotten how to drink from a cup? Her mind drew a blank, a long tongue slipping into the cup to test it and... cold? She lowered the item and tilted her head, a hand reached in, sharp fingernails prodding the surface. Now that was not right. This was not just cold it was frozen! Akemi hummed and pouted. Eyes raised slowly to look at the other girl. She was not pleased, that was for sure.
For a moment all was silent.
"BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA."
The laugh was loud, straight from the stomach. Akemi smiled, sliding off the counter and putting the cup on the side. She approached the other, a smile painted across her face, almost in a sinister manor.
"See. I knew under that serious expression you had a sense of humor!"
The red-head stopped infront of the other girl, rested her hands on her luscious hips and bowed her head a little.
"Akemi. My name is Akemi."
She lunged forward, in an attempt to dunk her tongue in the girls drink to taint it undrinkable.

With a soft hum in the back of her throat, Étaín raised her cup slightly, barely skimming over Akemi's dive and used her free hand to catch the canine's extended tongue between her thumb and forefinger. She did not violently squeeze or freeze the appendage, though both thoughts had crossed her mind. The tableau had to be an entertaining one, but no one else was there to see it.
Lips twitching, Étaín revealed a bit more of her rather biting sense of humor; "A foreigner...so then sneaking into homes and eating the food you find there is a cultural practice? Fascinating."
Calmly sipping her tea, the majin retained her hold, pinching just enough to hit at threat. Glancing sideways at the she-wolf with narrowed eyes, Étaín continued speaking normally, completely ignoring the fact that she was holding the other girl's tongue.
"Poena Privus... not much to see there. But I hope your journey there is pleasant." She might have to shadow the wolf herself, or report her movements to her superiors...the Rift was dangerous. Shruging it off and taking another sip of tea, Étaín glanced at her stove and realized everything would be done shortly. "I will be heading toward the capital, myself. Classes start again shortly and I am eager to begin my final year of school."
Then she could finally take her place, full-time, among the Blackhearts. Her parents' place was waiting for her.
Shaking off her heavier thoughts, Étaín smirked and propped her hip on the counter, tugging Akemi closer. "If you would like to get cleaned up and go sit, at the table, I will bring a plate over and invite you to join me for dinner... if you are still hungry?"
