Prisca held the gem in her mouth tightly so as not to drop it. A few times a chipmunk had tried to make off with it, thinking it a nut. One actually did manage to take it and hide in a tree. But one bite showed it to be something harder than a simple acorn and the gem was dropped to the ground, where the mare was able to pick it up. She still wasn't sure what to do with it. It was too pretty to just leave lying around anywhere. Even a safe spot only she knew about. Leaving it anywhere at all but on her person seemed too great a danger.
The only thing left to do with it was find something to do with it.
The mare took her prize over to a large stump. A few strips of leather sat on top, one curled into a circle with the ends knotted together. It was here she placed the gem, near a few strips not worked into anything but being strips. To be honest, she wasn't sure what she was going to do with the two things. There was no hole in the gem with which to thread leather. But maybe she could tie some leather around it. Make a hole, than, for another strip to be fed through. It could be possible.
Prisca picked up a strip with her mouth and laid it on the table, smoothing it out as much as she could. She then placed the gem on top of it, holding it in place with a hoof while she tried to pull the strip across the gem. It took a bit of practice before she was able to tie it completely around the purple object.
