 'Safi grumbled to herself bitterly. Her paws were raw and burning, and felt like they might drop off. She found herself almost wishing they would. At least the pain would stop.
'Safi had been a rogue her entire life and she was used to the hardships that that life brought; however, two moons ago she had overheard two rogues discussing a pride. A pride comprised entirely of females who believed that males were inferior and chose to live their lives almost completely independent of them. Since that day, she had been traveling. She awoke each day soon after the sun rose and walked until it started to set, stopping briefly only for food or water. 'Safi was completely unaccustomed to this kind of life - and she was tired.
Her ears twitched at the sound of rushing water. Looking around, 'Safi quickly caught sight of the small stream and headed over to take a drink. After slaking her thirst, she turned her gaze to the sky, swiping her tongue around her jaws to catch the drops of water. The sun was starting to sink. She'd have to find a place to spend the night soon.
As she was about to turn away from the river, a faint noise ruffled her ear fur - the sound of a paw brushing the grass. Opening her jaws, she detected a strong, rank scent and her eyes flew open. Whirling around, she found herself facing three adult hyenas with slavering jaws and wild eyes. Their ribs were showing through their pelts and 'Safi realized that hunger had driven them to desperation - and made her their target.
Every muscle in her body shrieked with exhaustion, but she lowered herself into a crouch anyways, her hackles raising and her ears flattening against her skull. Her tail lashed as she bared her teeth and gave the hyenas a warning roar. Two of the attackers, hungry and weak, became unsure after her display of aggression and hesitated, but the third was too reckless in his hunger to pay any heed.
It lunged forward, jaws open. Darting to the side out of the hyena's reach, 'Safi landed a vicious blow to its skull before leaping at it. Grabbing the hyena and holding it in her strong forelegs, 'Safi quickly disposed of her attacker with a bite to the neck. Turning back to the two remaining hyenas, she was just in time to see the second racing toward her. Nimbly, she leaped into the air and twisted, landing on the hyenas back and sinking her claws into its pelt; however, the third had also gained its courage. It leaped and knocked her from its comrade's back.
'Safi landed on the ground on her back, the breath driven from her lungs as the hyena landed on top of her. Using her forepaws, she held the hyenas jaws at bay while she shredded its underbelly with her hind paws. The harsh tang of blood filled the air. 'Safi yowled in rage and pain as the second hyena clamped down on one foreleg in an effort to aid its companion.
Her pain gave her a rush of strength, and she dealt a hard blow to the hyena on top of her with her free paw, causing it to back away shaking its head. Unfortunately, she could feel her strength ebbing away, and didn't even manage to scramble to her paws before the second hyena was on her. Hissing violently, she tried to keep fighting, but her vision was slowly fading to black.

 Zaramama'Drogo huffed softly as her paws carefully carried her over the land, she couldnt find her guard and the feeling she were devolping for the lioness were starting to confuse the young princess, she was smitten indeed!
But the sounds hissing, and what sounded to be those drooling moronic canines caught her attention, they had better not be poaching on their lands! The young royal picked up her pace and just in time it seemed! She caught sight of the leopardess going down, and that was simply not acceptable! How dare they even attack a female on their land! Her snarl echoed out loudly as she rushed forward, fangs and claws ready.
Within moments the two of the three were running with chunks of their hide missing, she snorted with a nod of her head and panting for a moment, she shook out her head for a moment before her gaze fell onto the leopardess.
She wasnt a member of their pride, or Zar would know her face, her scent but she was unknown, she wasnt sure how injured she was so inteast she sat and waited until the leopardess awoke, she sat there, tail curled around her paws as her eyes scanned over the land, she wouldnt tolerate another attack!

'Safi awoke to a pain unlike anything she had ever experienced. Her paw was throbbing and hot where the hyena's teeth had pierced it, her muscles were aching as if a tree had fallen on her, and she had torn out a claw in the battle. She lay there for several heartbeats with her eyes shut tight, pretending that she wasn't conscious in the hopes that the pain would stop. All she could smell was the stench of hyenas and blood. Wait.. Was that..?
Blinking open her eyes, 'Safi immediately noticed that the sun had pretty much set. But her attention was elsewhere. Lifting her head with an agonized groan, 'Safi gazed around her until her eyes settled on a dark pelted lioness, sitting a few paces away and scanning the area. She had scented lion. The stranger didn't seem hostile, and 'Safi had a feeling that she was to thank for saving her - although, in her pain, she wasn't so sure that she wouldn't have rather been dead. 'Safi let her head fall heavily back to the ground.
"Thank you, stranger. Without you, I'd be vulture food by now." 'Safi forced the words through gritted teeth. Even talking took effort!Ovarian Paint Tag! Btw, your lioness is gorgeous. <3

Zar glanced down at the leopardess, she nodded her head with a soft smile. "Well, they should have known better! My grandmother would have taken all their hides instead of leaving two alive...but I am not my grandmother." She shrugged her shoulders lightly.
"But we shouldn't be out this far from the pride for to long, dont need anyone to come out searching for me." She shook her head with a soft laugh. "I am Zaramama'Drogo, daughter of the Queen of Amazons. Welcome to our lands.." She bowed her head in the banner she had been taught, very delicate in her movements. "We can provide you with a place to heal, or even stay if you'd like, but first you'd have to speak with my mother but were open to all females in search of a place to call home."
"Plus Im very sure you'd like some water and a good meal and a place to rest up safely." She glanced back out over the land, "Though I doubt they'll be back anytime soon. Oh and please call me Zar.."Rennekae Oh thanks! I looove her to pieces!

'Safi's heart nearly leaped out through her throat when Zar revealed that she had reached her destination. I've made it! After all this time - and nearly dying - I'm finally where I belong. Unfortunately, her excitement caused her body to tense, and she yelped and then hissed in frustration.
"Well met, Zar. I am Usafi'Kuharibiwa - or 'Safi, if you find it easier," 'Safi paused and tried to stand; she managed to haul herself halfway up before accidentally putting pressure on her injured paw. Falling ungracefully back onto her side, she glanced at Zar with embarrassment. "It seems I may need your help once again; I don't think I can get up on my own."
'Safi hated how weak she felt, but she had come too far and endured too much to even consider giving up just because she was ashamed. Her injuries left her unable to support the weight of her own body and, while she was sure she would heal in time, making it to the pride would be quite the task if she couldn't even stand.

Lowering herself, she counted "1.....2......3...." and on the final number, she raised herself back up, slinging the leopardess's front leg over her shoulders. "Easy now.." She said with a nod of her head.
"We're not to far out still, others should see us in not to long hear." She was slow with her movements. "What brings you here 'Safi?" She asked curiously.
The pride had a history of regretting helping injured females, but still it couldnt be helped, they werent going to leave someone out to die.

'Safi clenched her jaw and let out a low growl as Zar lifted her. The pain was almost enough to make her screech. She focused intently on the fact that she had finally arrived, hoping that the happiness that accompanied the thought would ease her agony.
She felt grateful to Zar as the lioness started to speak. While it may not have been her original intention, the conversation served as another distraction.
"To be honest, you. I heard of your pride many sunrises ago and I've been searching for you ever since. I only hope that my presence will be accepted."
Suddenly, it occurred to 'Safi that the pride might not accept her as readily as she had accepted it, and she tensed nervously.

"Of course you will be." Zara said with a soft smile, she didnt get any vibes off the female that would make her feel like she was being dishonest.
"We welcome those that seek our aid and welcome them to share our home." She loved her pride, unknown to her currently that she would be the next to rule the pride.
"But, until your ready to decide if were the right fit for you, your welcome to rest." Zara wouldnt let her be out in the rogue lands on her own, specially in this state.

'Safi's heart leapt at the news that the pride would accept her. So much so that she almost snorted with derision at the suggestion that this wasn't the right place for her to be. She'd known from the moment she'd heard about the Antianeira that it was the perfect home for her and had traveled for moons in order to find it.
The very idea that she might turn around and leave after everything was amusing - and a little crazy.
"Believe me, friend; there's no place I'd rather be. I will return the pride's hospitality by pledging my life to its service. Once I'm healed, of course. In this state, we both have to admit I'm quite useless." At her last statement, 'Safi tried to chuckle, but even that hurt.
After being forced to use her body, every muscle screamed and every cut stung. She gritted her teeth and slitted her eyes against the pain and continued to limp on with Zar's help.

Zara laughed, she was a happy lioness, and she loved to see new faces calling the pride home.
"Well then, by all means your more than welcome." She continued to help the leopardess forward, she passed a few scent barriers, and she smiled.
"Welcome to your new home Safi." She said with a kind purr, "I wont drag you around the whole pride...yet anyways." She teased with a smile. "But we have a few dens closer that you can rest in, and I'll send healers in your direction." She nodded her head, "My mother would be disappointed if we didnt see to your wounds. Never know that those mangy mutts have.." She wrinkled her nose.

'Safi's ears folded back and her lip curled up in distaste. Through her excitement at having finally found her home - Home. What an amazing word. 'Safi purred contentedly as she repeated the word in her head - she hadn't thought that the worst might not be over.
Her new friend had saved her from being torn apart and eaten, but she wasn't out of the woods yet. Without proper treatment, she could die just as easily - and painfully - from infection or disease. Her anxiety helped to strengthen her and she hobbled along a little quicker, still supported by Zara.
"Well, when I'm back to myself again, I look forward to taking you up on your offer to show me around. I'd love to get to know my sisters and start repaying your kindness." 'Safi tried to force out a friendly smile but her injuries were bothering her more than ever, so it ended up a lop-sided grimace.
She hoped that Zar would get the message anyway.

Zara caught on, and she gently lowered herself down so that Safi could lay in the cool den they'd come upon, it was an empty spare den. "Alright now, you rest and I will send someone over to look over your wounds and bring you a bite to eat." She said with a nod, she looked the leopardess over with a careful eye.
"Im happy to welcome you to your new home, and am looking forward to showing you around once your healed up!" She beamed a smile at her. "But rest now, and the rest can be dealt with at another time." She turned and padded out of the den.
"I shall see you around Safi."
And with that, Zara went back to the pride to inform them of the newest member and to send a healer in her direction.

Ovarian Paint Thanks so much again for doing this for me. I'm so happy 'Safi has a home now. I'm going to be doing a wrap-up post soon enough (probably tomorrow). You don't have to read it, of course, I just like to do a post that ... ends. lol
