Branwen and Korax

Tziporah wasn't to sure what kind of 'nest' Anzu wanted. She had never made a nest before, even through she was party of a harpy herd... She slept in a cave, but the idea was a bit hard for her to grasp. Looking around on the peak where they would talk all she was able to find was very tall grass... "My Lord, what about this...?" She called over to him. She felt silly being out of her element.

He turned to look at her find. In reality, the over sized rooster was every bit as lost as his mate was.

"That is a good start," he said. "We will need plenty of long grass."

Branwen dropped down to land on his neck, her claws hanging on to the thick feathers. "You'll need sticks," she looked over at Tzi, "big sticks. Where do you build it? Woven eggs are not made to rest in trees."

Korax landed next to Tzi and started tugging at the dry grass.

The mare blinked at the bird and then looked over at Korax. "The baskets are to heavy for trees...Nor would you. They'll need to stay on the ground." She tilted her head some and then looked at the grass. "With enough work on it, I'm sure the grass would blend and mold to the shape we choose, no?" Her blue icy eyes glanced back at Anzu.

He nodded, "It would be foolish to build a nest in the trees." He moved to the edge of the cliff and look down toward the lake. "Placing it on the hill would make it easier to guard, but as we expand those of our heard who are land bound will find it difficult to reach the nests. We could place it between the cliffs and the pool. With the cliffs behind and Unnr's pool to the side it will be sufficiently guarded."

Tzi glanced in the direction he was looking and she frowned lightly. She was more so nervouse of being so close to the water, but so long as there was someone always nearby in the water it couldn't hurt... right? Wings and water don't mix... She gave him a slight nod of agreement. "You're right." She stated and hooved the ground, "I will begin collecting the grass."

"We'll make a tunnel nest. Big tunnel nest for Lord Anzu," Korax crowed, fluttering into the grass. "These ones. Here, here. Keep them long, pull them by the roots."

Anzu nodded, "Korax will stay and help. I'll fly down for now and see what I can find in the way of large branches."

There was some older wood torn from the trees in a recent storm, if those weren’t suited he may have to try uprooting some saplings. "Come, Branwen," he said as he turned to walk toward the cliff. Despite his show of confidence, he needed the crow's advice just as much as Tzi needed his.

Tzi watched him leave and she looked back to the bird and then at the grass. She... wasn't a home maker. She sighed as she went to pull the grass from it's roots. She wasn't a foreger or.. a gatherer. She wasn't use to this kind of stuff. She huffed softl. She knew it was needed and needed for HER foals. Yes... She had to suck up her pride and ... pull grass.

"So, you've made.. a lot of nests... ?"

"Many nests. Storms break nests, storms ruin nests. Always build another. New nests stronger, safer for eggs. Never so big," he cocked his head back and forth as he spoke, then bent to pick up one of the shorter lengths of grass.

There were a few saplings near the place where Anzu wanted the nest, those could be left for later. Now that he was down here though the whole search felt like a waste of time.

"Branwnen, go scout out some appropriate materials. Bring back what you can, for now. Tziporah and I will haul back the rest later."

She tilted her head, but accepted the order and flew away.

Anzu took off again, heading back up to the top of the cliff.

* * *

After alot of hard work and a lot time, Tzi took a few steps back to look at what they had accomplished. She was exhausted and not to sure if she had ever worked so hard in her whole life. Is that ht eway a normal horse's life was lead? She glaned at Anzu and awaited his judgement on the final touches. The nest was large, very large so that Anzu could fit into it. And it looked very strudy too. They had even used their wings to create wind to make sure it would stand.

"My lord...?"

He stood beside her, head held high despite how tired he was. His ravens were putting some finishing touches on the nest, tying knots too small for their larger companions too accomplish.

"We did well," his tone was unusually affectionate. "This will make a fine shelter for our young."

The mare smiled at him some, trying not to get overly touchy about this. But inside, she was giddy that he said it so. Tzi lowered her head to him in thanks and she looked back over at it. This was the start of the next step for the herd, for them, for her. She had never thought she would ever be able to mate being so lowly in her previous herd. And now, she was with the Alpha. It was such a strange turn of events. "Yes, it will."
