Me again! Sometimes I think I'm just too anxious to have a kitten, every little thing that happens freaks me out! I'm so glad I have you guys.
This morning, I lit a candle to do some meditation. I thought Starshine was in his room, resting when suddenly, he jumped on my table and sniffed the candle! He jumped back IMMEDIATELY. Fortunately, his whiskers nor his fur are not damaged.
His nose looks okay right now, there is no visible damage. He's acting normal as well. How do I know if it's a real burn or just a quick "ouch"?
I feel awful about what I've done and will never light a candle again. He doesn't seem to hate me, though.

sounds like just a quick ouch. sounds like he didn't actually get to the flame, he just felt the heat around it. my cat has done the same thing, and from then on avoided lit candles. kitties are smarter than we think!

ouch, poor kitty. my youngest kept jumping on the stove when i got her. i kept yelling and making a huge fuss to try and make sure she wouldnt ever do it again. well one day she jumped up there right after i made some food and burned her toes, she hasnt jumped up there since
point is, cats sometimes need to learn with a little pain, so you can still light candles if you want, i doubt he will go near them again anytime soon
give him some love and maybe share a can of tuna with him and he will forgive you

I had someone told me their friend's cat lit the tip of his tail accidentally on fire from a candle and proceeded to light up all the curtains in the house. Be careful with candles.

Candles and cats dont mix. Perhaps, in the future if you wanted to light candles, go with tea lights and tea light holders? We have a few lightly scented ones that are encased to prevent the cats from touching the actual candles.
They are stove jumpers though. D: Freyja ouched her paws on a hot element and learned her lesson.

I doubt he's seriously hurt. Don't feel like you can't light candles anymore, just be careful about them and really aware of placement and where the cat is and all and if it's somewhere the cat could get them, definitely don't leave it unattended/where you can't see it
I rarely burn candles, but the ones I have are on top of my desk where Saphi's never gone and the dogs can't reach/won't knock them over (desk is damn solid and heavy), and the tealight holder on the wall that's well away from cat trees, furniture and curtains.
My aunt's cat caught his tail in a candle once, walking past and just unaware of it, kind of thing; luckily there was somebody in the room (she lit the candle and left the room)

xd Roman almost caught his tail on fire once with candles. He just plopped down on the kitchen table and did a tail-flick and just laid it right across the flame. Spaz.
He was alright, though. I'm sure your cat is fine. Just a surprising ouch.

One of my kitties got too close to a candle and burnt part of her whiskers off. She never did that again that's for sure xp

My kitty, Oliver, loves to drink my soup. I always try to stop him, but he keeps coming back. One day, my soup was scalding hot and I set it on the table to wait for it to cool down. He jumped up and stuck his face in it to drink and he jumped backwards with an 'ouch' meow- needless to say he doesn't go near my food anymore. He must be thinking "crazy humans eating hot things.. I don't want that!"
Learning a lesson is good, especially if there was no serious damage. It'll prevent much more serious damage in the future!
