Shukura wasn't sure why she continued to venture out into the rouge lands like this. Perhaps it was because she wasn't satisfied with how she had grown up. Abandoned as a cub and taken in by a friendly pride, she never really had one set father or mother figure to help her grow and learn. The felines and canines in her pride were very supportive and kind, but there had always been that parental figure missing from her life. She never had one adult she could curl up with whenever she wanted and whimper her fears to. Now she was an adult. A shy, quiet one at that. She did well at her job - healing others - but beyond that she was a very elusive lioness, unsure of when others wanted her around or when they wanted to be left alone. Shukura figured if anyone did want her around, they'd simply come find her. Of course, being lonely all day didn't really make her feel much better about herself. Perhaps they only wanted her to be there when someone was hurt or sick? Surely not...they were all so kind and welcoming...perhaps it was just her? She was making trips to the rouge lands a pretty common thing now a days, hoping to find someone to talk to or make friends with. Someone that didn't know she was so painfully shy, so she could try to make a better impression on them and possibly win them over. So far she had struck out, either too nervous to approach a distant figure or finding no one at all near her pride's boarders. Today seemed to be such a day. There wasn't even a bird hopping about. Shukura sighed softly and took up residence under a small tree, laying in the shade as she waited for someone to come by. Hopefully.

Afternoon naps, Hekio decided, were a grand thing. Completely rejuvenated, the leopard stretched out, letting his tongue loll out in a yawn before, after shaking himself, he straightened up. The afternoon sun was peeking through the cluster of leaves, throwing an intricate and peaceful design on the trotted down grass, as he walked along the trees, determined to head to the water basin for a drink before he began hunting.
However, after passing a few dozen small trees, Heiko blinked, staring at lioness who had taken up a spot in the shade. The leopard hesitate, unsure if the other was friendly or hostile, before sniffing the air. After a moments consideration, he finally stepped forward, though keeping a nice distances away.
An easy grin graced his face as he appraised her with a nod. "Good afternoon, ma'am." Heiko greeted easily, sitting hesitantly on his rump as he kept careful eyes trained upon the lioness. "Pardon me if I'm intruding on your alone time. I tend to wander the rogue lands on my own and, alas, it gets a bit lonely." He hesitated. "I'm not bothering you am I?" Heiko truly hoped not.
He wasn't lying about being lonely. If he didn't want any interactions with the other cat, he would have made a wider path around this particular tree but, as it was, he was craving conversation and company. "I hope today has gone well for you, as of far, yes?" the leopard flashed a smile, looking the the direction of the lake briefly. Maybe, if he wasn't being a nuisance to the other, he could invite her to keep him company to the basin. Activities always seemed improved when it wasn't just him.

Shukura stretched her front legs out, letting her claws dig into the ground as her muscles tensed. She was used to being more active in the evenings, but she didn't want to risk meeting any new friends that were out during the day. She was a bit sleepy, but relaxing in the shade was definitely helping that. Her stretch was interrupted by a voice, and she dug her claws into the ground out of surprise so much so that she grimaced as the dirt clung to her paws. She quickly looked to her left, where the voice had come from, and spotted a leopard not too far off. Her ears swiveled down and she ducked her head, not sure if the male was friendly or not. Perhaps this was his shade? Oh dear...she was so horrible at making new friends. But as the pink male continued to speak, she began to gather that he wasn't angry at all. Rather, a bit lonely like herself. She remained in the very submissive posture even as she returned his words. "No, not bothering at all," she said, her voice meek. "It's been a bit dull but...dull is safe." One of the female's ears slowly lifted in a curious sort of motion and she tilted her head just slightly to the side. "Do you come to this part of the rouge lands often? I venture from my pride every few days and have never seen you before."

"I didn't mean to startle you." Heiko laughed, noticing how quickly she turned her head. Tilting his head slightly, the leopard was quite puzzled as to why she wouldn't raise her head. She looked almost... submissive. Blinking, Heiko studied her, wondering if that were the case.
"Mmm, it can be safe without it being dull." He replied lightly back, voice a bit strange. Even her voice! His eyes narrowed slightly as he pondered. Blinking, the pink leopard grinned suddenly then leaned forward. "A pride, you say? How fortunate." Getting down to his belly, he sort of crawled closer to her, feeling a bit more safe now that she didn't seem to attack him at first chance.
"Forgive me if I'm wrong but... there is no reason to lower your head to me." Heiko tried to lower his own head in hope to get in eye level. "I'm a leopard without a pride or colony and not even I lower my head in other's presence, unless their rank calls for that; and I assure you, I'm as plain and as rank-less as they come."
Letting out a chuckle, he tried to appear even more friendly. "Mind accompanying me to get a drink of water? It's quite hot out here and I would enjoy the company." Heiko wanted to ask her more questions and hopefully get her comfortable enough to inform him just why she acted so meekly. He wasn't a busybody who stuck his nose into others affairs very often but she seemed like such a nice lioness. One like her shouldn't be bowing her heads to strangers.
Her... Blinking, the leopard let out a quick laugh. "I didn't even ask your name! If my mother could hear me now... I'm Heiko, a leopard that's sort of new to this part of the Rogue Lands." he introduced, standing up.

Despite the leopard's submissive posture, Shukura's heart beat a bit faster as he moved forward. It wasn't until he mentioned her own posture that she realized how foolish she must look, cringing and speaking like a cornered fawn. "Oh...I never assumed you were of high rank," she said quietly, but not as nervously. "Not that I'm saying you couldn't be," she added quickly, not wanting to offend. "I've just learned it's better to be submissive when meeting new animals. It makes them friendlier. Usually." The offer to get a drink interested her. It was very hot out and she could tell it wasn't going to cool off any time soon. With a nod she stood and flexed her claws to get the dirt out from under them. She'd have to wash her paws in the pond when they arrived to get all of it out, though. It was really packed in. "Heiko," she repeated with a hint of a smile. "I'm Shukura. It's nice to meet you." Once she was on her feet she waited for Heiko to lead her to the water. She was quite small for a lioness, only standing a few inches taller than the leopard, which made it much easier to not seem as imposing.

Heiko continued to frown in puzzlement. "What an odd thing to say." he mumbled, watching her get up; he was relieved that she didn't tower over him. "Why not just stand up for yourself off the back? They'll walk all over you, otherwise." the light leopard queried, butting his nose into her business. He wasn't usually this busy-body and would usually simply let a situation be, and yet, he didn't have the heart to not try and help.
Heiko walked forward a bit, before looking over his shoulder. "Very nice to meet you as well, Shukura." he replied, giving an easy smile. "Have you always been this meek?" Blunt. Not what he wanted to do but it simply slipped out. Fighting back a cringe at his own crassness, he walked forward, pausing momentarily for her to catch up.
He just couldn't understand it. A pride, at least in his mind, were close knitted and kind to each other. And yet... Shukura had such little confidence. Did her comrades not notice this?
A question swam in his head for a second, causing rose eyes to focus on Shukura. "Which Pride are you from, anyways? I haven't yet settled in so I've no clue as to which Prides and Colonies are around here."

"I'd rather not cause any problems," Shukura explained softly, her voice just loud enough to carry to Heiko's ears. She'd much rather let whoever she met be in charge than end up fighting for dominance. It was so much easier when everyone got along. The question made her flinch slightly, dragging her paws along the ground a bit more. "Yes," she answered, knowing that the truth was better than setting up false expectations. "I'm from the Jedi pride...we're very small and a bit reclusive, but I find myself in the rouge lands more often than not lately, looking to further my ranks by completing my tasks." She glanced at the leopard, a wary look on her face. "We're very peaceful, but I'm probably the least likely to fight out of all of them. I prefer to help. Heal those that are injured. Sit quietly and listen to stories about the other brave members of my pride."

Heiko ducked his head slightly, sighing. My, my, my. "I suppose that's one way to go about things. But you can't let those people get away with too much. You've got to have some protest in you. There's a way to not be submissive and yet, not appear.... dominating." The leopard fumbled with the words, trying to put his feelings into words.
Heiko noticed the slightly noticeable change in footsteps; she was dragging her paws slightly. Quickly, the pink feline tried to correct his wrong. "Not that that's a bad thing!" he blurted out, looking over at her. "I know many guys who would much rather a nice, quiet mate rather than a loud and obtrusive one." Heiko pointed out, attempting to cheer her up. He also realized he seemed to be contradicting himself. When I mean meek, I don't necessarily mean submissive... One can be meek and have a backbone at the same time... right?
His ears perked up in surprise and interest at the hearing of a Jedi pride. What an interesting discovery. If he ever met up with Shukura again, he will sure to ask more about it. "Never could have enough passive fighters. I think you'd fit your role very well." Heiko claimed, nodding. He then smiled. "Although you lack the backbone, Shukura, I think you're a very gentle and kind lioness. I'm sure when the time calls for it, you can hold your own ground."

Shukura laughed weakly at that mental image. A nice mate she would make, she was sure. Were there really males out there that liked someone like her? It was hard to believe, really. She was so quiet that she couldn't possibly attract a strong, kind male. They all went for the funny, or the pretty, or the strong, or the smart, or the confident females, and she was positive she was none of those. But Heiko's voice was so certain...perhaps she was wrong? She had been wrong in the past, many times, about many things. She really shouldn't get her hopes up but...hm. "...you think so?" she asked, casting a wary glance at her pink friend as they continued to walk. There was a hesitant look on her face, but her ears were held a bit higher, as was her head.

Heiko spotted the waterhole up ahead and grinned, before looking over at his companion. What a weak laugh. Did he not believe her? He grinned. "Oh, trust me. Personally, I'd find myself someone like you and settle down. I'm not to fond of crazy adventures and constantly playing catch up." Shrugging, he glanced up at the sky, smiling as clouds skirted slowly over the sun. The weather was turning into a rather lovely temperature.
Hearing her response, he looked over, before winking in encouragement. "Oh, I know so. When the time comes, you'll definitely blossom. Right now, you're a lovely bud just waiting to show you're potential." Oh, that was lame for him to say, but he felt is what fitting and much appropriate for the situation.
Approaching the waterbed, he leaned down and took a sip, before straightening and smiling at her. "I think you've made my day considerably better, Shukura. It was very lovely to meet you and I really do hope I can meet you again someday."SilverLutz Hmmmm, maybe we can wrap it up with the next post? C: Would love to roleplay them again sometime! <3

Another weak laugh left Shukura's lips, but this time it wasn't as soft. He'd like to find someone like her? Wow...there really were males out there that weren't all about being tough and gruff! Not that anyone in her pride acted like that, of course...but to her, everyone she had grown up around was family. They were all so kind and loving, but she could never look at any of them as a suitor. "Thank you," she said very quietly, a hint of a smile on her face. She paused to take a drink as well, glad they had reached the water that she discovered she needed. She lifted her head from the water and nodded as Heiko spoke once again, bobbing her head after in thanks. "It was lovely meeting you as well," she said with another small smile one she lifted her head. "I hope you find someone to settle down with eventually. You're very kind." They parted ways soon after, Shukura heading back to her pride and Heiko off in the direction they had been walking in. This time, though, Shukura kept her head high and had a little bounce in her step. Someone she had never met before had seen the potential for greatness in her. That in itself was enough to pick up her spirits.
