The sun was high in the sky by the time the grumpy council member woke up. Glowering at the light peeking through the roof of leaves, Zuberi'amiri hopped from limb to limb, determined to get things accomplished before night fall. The leopard was usually late to rise; he was always about at night, patrolling and assuring himself that the sentries were keeping up with their duties. He couldn't shake off the itch to take extra precautions; he was a strong believer in the saying "If you want something done, do it yourself." Due to his lack of belief or trust in others protecting him and the pride, he tasked himself with the duty of also patrolling.
As for during the day, Amiri hoped to overlook training, though he was usually up too late to catch it. Looking up at the sun, the leopard judged that he may catch the end of it before a break was issued. Not daring to appear in a rush, Amiri decided it was best to catch on to the latter half of the training.
While he walked along the branches, a stoic look in place, his ears twitched at every sound. Cubs horse playing and running around, mother's chiding, gossip floating in whispered tones; the leopard nearly smiled. The colony was definitely blossoming. However, he kept his blank expression and moved on, listening to the many conversations floating about.
Amiri paused, however, in his strides as he caught sight of a white leopardess with pink markings. Lips pulling down into a frown, the council member stared at her for a moment, pondering. They hadn't had a proper introduction to each other and yet, he really didn't feel up to a chat with the scholar variety. Then again, he did have the responsibility of knowing his fellow council and getting along. Sighing, allowing his head droop just the slightest, he headed over to her, bare annoyance skittering across his face.

Sleep had never been a friend of Scheherazade's, much less now that she had become a mother and a refugee. In her formative years she would often lay awake at night, spending the night away discussing the world with her step-father. Her mate had been less eclectic, and her cubs even less so. They had taken to sleeping through the night, which kept them out of her work, but also meant that her days were tied.
Opaque eyes peered out at the gaggle of leotah cubs, playing with the leopards that would one day tell her very own little freaks to find a home elsewhere. Life was unkind to hybrids, and perhaps she had been less so in bringing them here. A colder mother would have left them, kept her line clean within the pride, but she was no such mother. Freaks or no freaks, they were her own kin.
Thankfully the light would soon disappear and she could begin the night's duty. The stars had been quite interesting as of late, causing many of the Star Gazer's to become restless. It was both an exciting time, and slightly frightening. What did it all mean? Was it an omen, or a simple shift? Curious...
Opaque eyes turned to see the form of what should have been a familiar face. A council member, she knew, one of her own, and yet not, all the same. Scheherazade did not smile, nor did she really acknowledge his presence until he was closer enough for her to be forced into small talk. "Can I help you with something, .....sir?"
What was his name?

A tick was starting to go off.
Amiri nearly bit his tongue to keep very choice words at bay as he came closer, vexation burning hotter the more the leopardess chose not to acknowledge him. When he finally reached her and she let out a rather casual comment that ended in a sir, he frowned deeply. Although it wasn't directly, surely during the first meeting she had caught her name.
Refusing to speak to her at first, in slight revenge, he turned his dark eyes on the cubs playing about. He stared at them before blinking. "Leotahs." he muttered under his breath in surprise, quickly noticing the resemblance. Amiri didn't detest hybrids; he didn't have a superiority complex over other species. He did, however, find them a sad story when the rare occurrences happened within Elimisha'sombea. "How curious..." he mumbled, before looking back at the leopardess, slightly frowning. He felt a little putout that the mother would have children that was bound to be required to leave the colony but he quickly kept the feelings to himself; who knew the circumstances and, to be honest, he hardly cared. Instead, he finally inclined his head in greeting.
A wicked grin nearly forced it's way to his lips; he, of course, suppressed it. As if he was going to supply her his name. "Good afternoon, Scheherazade." he greeted formally, glancing up towards the skies. "Looking forward for tonight, I presume?" Amiri had seen her briefly sometimes on patrols, awake during the dark hours of the nights, and was taking a wild guess that she was probably going to be up this night as well. "We haven't formally introduced ourselves. As council members, we might as well get acquainted..." he paused, looking over at the cubs. "I'd ask to have a walk, but..." he shrugged, frowning up at the sky briefly. Ah, maybe he should have saved introductions until after training. "Please, call me by my name." The leopard insisted, eyes narrowing in a slight taunt. Painted Moose Oh, Amiri... why do you feel ooc?

Scheherazade blinked slowly, taking in his physique while stifling a yawn. The male certainly didn't seem very pleased with her, which wasn't an entirely new concept for her, but she couldn't put her paw on why.
"Freakish, aren't they?" She stated bluntly, following his gaze to her cubs. All five of them were roaming around with little care in the world, playing and bouncing with her poor hare friend caught in the middle. A soft, motherly smile claimed her for the briefest of moments before disappearing into the wind. If it hadn't been for them then she very well may have had a different life, with different freaks, tied down to a male she didn't love. Or worse. "Little misshapen blessings."
It took her a moment to respond, and when she did it was as if she'd just realized he'd spoken. "Hmm? Oh, yes. The stories stars tell are some of my favorites, but I have to wonder what will come of tonight. Exciting times are close...so close..." She shifted her shoulders. "They've enough eyes to watch them, so if you want to walk, just walk."
Without really waiting to see if he would follow, she stood and started to slip away. "You're name is...Zukuko'amigai, correct? Or was it Zuzuzu'mimigiza? Zimina..."

Amiri looked up quick, a frown etching his face. "Freakish, you say?" he said coldly, his expression guarded. "A sad future when they can't remain in the colony but I've never said the word freakish. No cub is a freak." the last was said with a bit of a vehement growl. Quickly, Amiri took a breath. I refuse to lose my temper with a fellow councilman. Closing his eyes briefly, he quickly quelled the anger, opening his eyes. And just in time. He saw, for just a moment, so quick that he could convince himself otherwise, Scheherazade smile. Amiri blinked before his expression softened just a bit. So she didn't feel that way towards her cubs. All she did was reflect most people's thoughts.
Feeling very pleased, Amiri allowed a content expression to inch across his face, glancing at the cubs once more. "Then let us walk." The leopard conceded, following her. He rolled his eyes heavenward. "Scholars." he muttered under his breath, glaring at the beginning of a few stars. He had long ago tried to argue that stars didn't speak but, of course, the difference in opinions couldn't be settled and so, the issue was dropped.
When she attempted his name, his gleeful smirk quickly dropped to a dark scowl as she blundered his name over and over... He glared at her, ears flat. "Zuberi'amiri." he snapped, tail whisking once, twice. "Call me Amiri." he said in a bit more calm, grunting at the rather airy leopardess. "And I think I'll call you Hera. Your name is a mouthful, did you know?" Amiri pointed out, not really asking if he could butcher her name to make a nickname for her.
Catching up to her side, stepping behind when the branches narrowed, he loped after her. "You don't sleep at nights or can't sleep at nights?" the leopard didn't know why he asked. He just felt that, as a fellow member of the same colony, he should look after her health and assure that her troubles were vanquished. If even for the sake of those cubs... he thought, frowning at the unexpected softness he felt towards them.Painted Moose If you mind Amiri calling her Hera, I can change it. o u o
