Storm of the Turn
The sea-side holds had managed to dodge Thread, literally, with the help of Trine's dragonriders, but it seemed that their luck wasn't going to hold out for long.
Though Southern's weather was generally balmy and beautiful, squalls did occur, especially toward the end of summer and the start of spring. It had been many seasons since there had been a particularly bad storm, but all that meant was that the weather was building up to something particularly terrifying, and all fisherman and shore-living individuals kept their eyes turned to the ocean, waiting for the other boot to fall.
The weather was unusually calm for a few weeks, holding off on all but the slightest breezes, ramping up the temperature in the blazing sun and keeping the majority of people in the Holds and even at the Weyr indoors, if they could manage it. Fishermen and the dolphin patrols along the shore kept wary eyes on the horizon, as any unusual behavior in the weather could mean something was coming...
OOC
It's monsoon season on the Southern Continent! Okay, it isn't quite as long as an Earth monsoon season, but on Pern even the inner Southern continent can get some rather nasty storms during their wet season.
Since there is a shortage of IC dolphineers, anyone interested in testing out a dolphineer NPC character is welcome to create one for this event. NPC dolphineers will come with the chance to earn their status as real characters with a dolphin partner without having to go through IC rank changes.
This event will run from April 8 until (loosely) April 15. The mule will make the final post to round out the event and confirm that no further posts can be made. Due to the open-response nature of the event, the ending date may change depending on the frequency of posts, but it will not exceed April 18th.
The winners of this contest will be determined by the following:
- Staying active throughout the event
Interesting and believable characters (human and dolphin)
Character interaction
Three Tasks
There will be three sections to this event in the forms of tasks that the dolphineers need to complete.
1. Sight the storm off the shore/get confirmation from wild dolphins
2. Warn the Weyr/water-side Holds
3. Help clear all boats/help secure boats from the water (ocean, rivers, and lakes)
Players will be able to select what task(s) their dolphineer participates in. For some sections there will be a limited number of slots available (not all dolphineers will be hanging out on the coast on patrol, after all), but everyone will be able to participate in the majority of the event. The transfer from one task to the next will be marked by a mule post, so no one should get their timeline mixed up during the event.
