It had been only days since the two brothers had broken free from the confinement of their shells. Standing over them were their parents, Setsuna and Mangena, ready to welcome them into their new lives. Setsu was pleased that he had a brother to play with, and he spent every waking moment making sure that Genna was kept occupied with one game or another. At the moment, he was chasing his brother. Though they were confined to wriggling along the ground on their bellies right now, they were by no means slow. Setsu was having trouble keeping up with his brother at the moment, and before he realized it, Genna was nowhere to be seen.
"Oh come on Genna!" He hated it when Genna blended in with the undergrowth. His black scales made him almost disappear in the darkness of the night. "No fair! Come out, please?" The last was said as a plea on Setsu's part. He knew how good Genna was at hiding, and this wasn't supposed to be a game of hide and seek.

xoxoxoxGenna had been chased by his brother practically since the moment he slithered out of his egg. He quickly found a dense shrub to crawl into and hide while Setsu was looking for him. He was still quite shocked at this new world and needed a moment to himself. Inside the shrubbery Genna saw a few small yellow lights floating around. When he looked closer he could see that they were tiny fireflies. He giggled as they floated around his head and down his body before landing in his tail. Then Genna heard that Setsu was close by and calling for him. He poked his head out of the shrub and called out to his brother, "Hey Setsu! Come and check this out!"

Setsu heard his brother call, and turned to see his head peeking out from under a bush. He slithered over and crawled in under the bush. He immediately noticed the yellow lights floating around them. This was something new!
"What are they? Can we eat them?" He was always on the lookout for new things to eat. Ever since they hatched, his stomach never seemed to be full. His head darted from left to right, trying to follow the lights as they flitted around their bodies. Suddenly, one landed on his nose, and try as he might, he could not get his eyes to focus on it. He shook his head back and forth vehemently, trying to rid himself of the light, but it would not budge. "Get it off Genna!"

xoxoxoxGenna rolled on the ground back and forth laughing while Setsu tried to shake the firefly off his nose. He stopped for a moment and stared at Setsu, "Don't eat them! They are too small for you to eat anyways!" Genna continued to laugh and roll around with the little bugs. He was glad that Setsu was around but was still curious about the world around him. The shrubbery was nice and cozy, and the fireflies were entertaining, but there must be more to see. Then he realized he was hungry too and wanted to go find something to eat. Genna had tried to eat some flowers earlier but those were no good and left a yucky taste in his mouth. He needed something ... more substantial. "Lets go look for food!" Genna shouted at Setsu as he slithered quickly out of the shrub.

At the mention of food, Setsu forgot all about the light on his nose and hurried after his brother. "Wait up", he called, as he slithered, and wriggled after Genna. "Maybe mother has food." Their mother had been right there when they hatched, ready to sate their hunger. Perhaps they should just go find her, instead of roaming the forest floor, looking for something to eat. "Mother gives us good stuff to eat Genna. Let's just go find her. I don't want to waste time searching for something if she has food already." His stomach was once again making noises, and Genna didn't seem inclined to stop and take his suggestion seriously.

xoxoxoxGenna heard Setsu behind him but ignored his brothers suggestion to go find their mom and he continued on through the forest. He slithered up a tree so that he could see what was beyond the dense forest, as he heard a lot of noise coming from the plains ahead. When he got to the top of the tree, he slowly slithered out to the edge of the limb and peered over the canopy and out onto the plains past the forest. "Hey Setsu! You gotta get up here!" Out on the plain was a large heard of roaming animals, grazing on the grass. They were quite large, much much bigger then the two small boys, and had long thick horns that looked quite dangerous. Once Setsu reached the tree Genna looked over at him in shock and quietly said "Okay, so maybe we should go find mother. Those animals look too big for us to handle!"

Once Setsu reached the tree, he had to get up to where Genna was perched. It took him a bit of time, but he finally made it. Looking around his brother, he could see the animals in question, and he had to agree with Genna's conclusion.
"You are right brother. We would have to be as big as father before we could even think about hunting one of those. Besides, we don't even know if they are good to eat or not. I like the food mother gives us. It tastes good, and it fills up my belly."
Just then, his stomach let out a loud rumble. "See, it's telling me it's time to eat. Come on, maybe we'll find something smaller on our way back home. Wouldn't it be nice to come home with something we caught all by ourselves, and show father and mother we can hunt already?"

xoxoxox Genna nearly fell out of the tree when Setsu's stomach growled. "Okay, okay, lets head back to where our parents are." He slithered down the tree, stopping a few times to look back out at the large grazing animals. When he got to the bottom limb, he jumped out onto the ground and started peeking into the nearby bushes. "I don't see any small foods around here Setsu!" He started towards where his parents were, peeking into bushes along the way. Then he heard something rustling up ahead. He waited for Setsu to catch up then whispered to him "Hey, I think there is something up there. But we got to sneak up on it so be careful!"

Setsu caught up with his brother and lowered his body level with the ground. It was a good thing they were still young, or they wouldn't have been able to sneak up on whatever was making the noise through the bushes in front of them. He whispered to Genna, "What do you think it is?" They hadn't really done any hunting on their own yet, but their parents kept talking about teaching them, they just hadn't bothered to do so yet. He was about say something else when suddenly the bushes parted, and the creature making all the noise came crashing toward them. Setsu yelled, "Look out Genna!" Then he rolled to the right, out of the path of what was obviously some sort of four-legged creature. If he remembered his lessons on lifeforms correctly, this one was called a pig.

xoxoxox "WHOA!!" Genna screamed as he rolled to the left. The pig thing had barely missed trampling over him. Even though it was a pig, it was still, at this point, slightly larger than the two baby dragons. Genna's eyes were big and his heart was racing. "So, maybe we are not ready to hunt on our own yet. I dun want to be trampled by my dinner." Genna pouted as his stomach grumbled. Then he thought of something. Maybe the pig was looking for food in the bush that it ran out of! Genna looked back to make sure the pig was long gone before he slithered into the bush. There was nothing inside except for some smelly mushrooms. They were so smelly they made Genna stick his tongue out in disgust, obviously this was not the food they were looking for. He slithered back out to where Setsu was, still laying on the ground. xoxoxox"That was a close one, are you okay brother??" Genna nudged Setsu with his nose and helped him to get back up right. Then both the little boys stomachs growled at the same time. Genna chuckled and sternly said, "I don't think there is any more time to fool around Setsu, we are both obviously starving... lets head back home, mom and dad are just right over there I think! Maybe they have a pig for us!!"
