Vollerei had spent the past few weeks traveling eastwards through the jungle trying to find its end. She'd heard of other lands nor covered in trees and wanted to see them. Figuring that the trees had to end somewhere Vollerei just kept heading towards the rising sun. That way if she got lost, all she had to do was wait for a day where she could see the sun rise or set and follow back west!

It was late in the afternoon when she ran into the edge of the jungle. She could tell right away, the warm wet air was gone, replaced by hot and dry air. The trees and plants had changed too. She no longer saw as many insects about, and the ground was a paler color.
Cautious but curious, Vollerei descended to the soft squishy ground and crept out into the open savannah before her. The trees here were spaced far apart, and oddly colored to Volelreie's eyes. All yellows, greens and blues, much lighter than what she was used to.

She made sure not to venture too far into the weird terrain. She felt exposed and oveheated out here with no trees to escape up and block the blazing sun.

Tau brushed off the sand from his legs as he walked and continued outward into the plain of Tale. His paint constantly caught bits of sand and itched his skin. A small price to pay for looking this good. This particular part of the plain led out to touch Jauhar's edges, a place where Tau had never been before. Not that that worried him.

Tau chose to stick close to his village, if only for the protection of the defensless women who needed his help. He would hate to leave and some horrible tragedy befall the others without his infinite skills to assist. He adjusted his headdress and looked out into the expanse of distant Jauhar forest, squinting his eyes into the bright late-morning sun. Well really, protection was the only reason he was out here to begin with. He had heard rumors of Alkidike women moving closer to Tale's borders and he wouldn't stand for that sort of invasion.

The trees loomed closer and he could make out a figure in the distance. It was tall... man, was it tall... and had antenae... An Alkidike! He stopped in his tracks and made a quick decision.

Today... he was not a fighter. Not that he would ever admit that to the others when he told them this story. According to him, he would brazenly charge forward and conquer this dangerous invader.

In reality, he was going to lie low and try not to be too conspicuous.

Volerei spotted a bright and colorful creature kinda near her. Looking over she saw a flat chested and painted person wearing the most outlandish of clothes.
Not only did this stranger cover themselves with paint that stuck out like a sore thumb against the savanna, they had leaves sticking out all over them! How strange... And.. what was she doing without a top on? How rude! There wasn't anything there that needed support, but still!
Vollerei shook her head and was about to ignore the odd and vulgar looking thing when an idea occurred to her.

This person didn't look like any alkidike or shifter so perhaps it was one of the other earthlings she'd heard mentioned... Perhaps this person knew of any animals that could be eaten or dishes that could be prepared for a hungry Vollerei...

Her stomach's gurgle of hunger decided her. She'd talk to this person and find out more about this land and any foods in it!

She turned towards the stranger and walked boldly forward. Perhaps at another time, when she was less hungry, she'd have lurk around and stalked the person till she'd learned something of them, but Vollerei was too impatient and hungry to do that right now.

Tau's chance to lie low and avoid the Alkidike obviously wasn't working. She had changed course and was heading right for him. Ah well, que sera sera. He fixed his clothes and slicked his hair back and sauntered up to the lonely Alkidike. His good looks should extinguish any hostility this woman might have.

"Why hello there! What brings a woman out on her own so obviously far from home?" He cocked his hips and attempted a smolder.

This Alkidike was interesting, not that he had seen any others for comparison, but she had the most peculiar scars on her face and from the looks of it, an antenae tip missing. Maybe he had chosen the wrong Alkidike to meet as his first encounter. For all he knew she could be too fiesty to handle and relished in battle. Too bad he didn't regularly carry his training staff.

As she came to stand near the earthling, Vollerei averted her eyes a little from the embarrassing person in front of her. Why did the other races not cover their chests? Was it an odd cultural thing? So far the only shifters she'd seen where like this one, muscled and flat chested.. perhaps it was a racial thing that applied to everyone so they weren't bothered by it and didn't bother to cover it?

When the painted one in front of her spoke, she was startled by how deep the voice was. For one so thin her voice should have been higher!

"Exploring. I wanted to see what lay beyond the jungle so.." Vollerei shrugged. She thought quickly and decided to ask, "Why don't you cover you chest? It's rather vulgar and embarrassing.. not that you have anything there, but still. All the non Alkidikes I've seen so far don't have any coverings, it's weird."
Not the best way to start off a conversation and potential friendship, but she just had to know!

The woman's blunt question had him floored. What a strange string of thoughts to have come out of her mouth.

Tau looked down at his own chest. Not anything there? Well, sure he wasn't the beefiest of men yet, he was still growing! This Alkidike's questions had him turn suddenly self conscious, though only for a moment. Tau would be damned if he let someone see him doubt himself. he was a fine looking piece of man and if this Alkidike couldn't see it, she would have to be set right.

"Now listen here, whatever-your-name-is, I don't know what kind of men you're used to seeing, but around here I'm no less than normal. And if men decide that they don't want to cover their chests then that's their business and also quite normal." His sauntering had been abruptly turned off, taken from him by odd and rude questions.

He steadied himself and tried to get back into his strut. Whoever this Alkidike was, she sure was ballsy. He shifted his footing and straightened his headpiece which was something of a habit for him when he felt nervous or out of place.

Vollerei snorted, "What ever my name is? Wow, how original. My name's Vollerei, if you must know.." She rolled her eyes.

She paused a second. Had he said man? One of those odd things that the alkidike didn't have? Curious.. perhaps that was why they didn't cover themselves... She began to circle the strange creature.

"Hmm.. a man? Just what is that? I've heard the word before when my elder sisters have talked of the non alkidikes.. never met one before..." Her eyes were curious, hunger forgotten for a brief moment.

So this was a normal man? Kinda scrawny and way too garish looking in her opinion... but the other bare chested ones she'd seen a while back had been bigger.. so perhaps they came in different shapes and sizes....

Vollerei, eh? Strange name for a strange girl. Tau gave her words some thought: so what, she didn't know what a man was? Even stranger.

Tau pulled at his shawl, suddenly uncomfortable. This Vollerei was downright picking him apart with her eyes. What, did he have to whip it out to prove it to her? The thought almost had him angry, she shouldn't be so rude as to stare so hard, not when Tau was being seen as a commodity and not as desirable like he would have preferred.

"A man- you know the opposite of woman? Strong and c----" Tau had started to respond with sarcasm when he was abruptly cut short. Something heavy seemed to have fallen in his headdress?

"What the?!" Tau didn't know what it was, but he didn't like it. It could be a bug from Jauhar. They weren't that far off from either forest, and he wouldn't take too kindly to a gross bug in his hair. He started to shake at his hair, pushing his headdress off of his head and jumping back. Well, so much for strong and courageous.

When he looked down at his headdress, he could see a tuft of light blue feathers sticking out from underneath. He nudged at the headdress with his toe, not yet sure it wasn't a bug. Who knew what was lying out there in Jauhar?

So a man was opposite a woman? hmm.. perhaps that was why Alkidikes didn't have them. Every woman and girl back home was different and each had their own quirks and many of them where polar opposites of each other. If you added this odd garish breed of man in, that would just be too crazy and so many conflicts! And as for strong? Well! Vollerei knew several Alkididkes who could lift her with one arm and carry her for over an hour before having to put her down! So a man's strength wasn't that unique. Plus the one in front of her didn't look that strong. A bit too rangy to be as strong as some of the women she knew. So what use was a man then?

Obviously the Alkidikes had discovered a better way of living. Guess that might have something to do with why her elders believed them to be superior to the earthlings.

She was about to ask why the Earthlings had men still when a woman could do everything already as her people have demonstrated, when something odd and blueish settled on top of the garish one's head, snuggling down into his head dress.

She giggled at his reaction. His little dance to get what ever it was off was certainly amusing! Perhaps Earthlings kept men around to entertain them....

She squatted down and poked at the blue fuzzy feathers poking out of the odd head dress.

"What's this?" she asked curiously as she pulled the head dress off of an odd creature that looked like no critter she'd ever seen. But then she was used to seeing mostly insects.

Tau had to cross his arms at Vollerei's giggling. He didn't appreciate her attitude toward him. She didn't take him very seriously at all. Sure, something that he was used to among his parents and some other elders, but still not appreciated here.

He watched as she squatted to see what was under his headdress and let her be the one to remove it. He almost visibly sighed when he saw what was underneath.

A kinfa infant. It was so small, it couldn't have been very old at all. Tau scratched his head; what was a kinfa so small doing out of its nest?

Tau leaned down to pick up the kinfa from the ground and started to brush the sand off of it's feathers. It was barely old enough to fly, really. "It's a young kinfa. Really young by the looks of it." He shared his thoughts with the Alkidike. "I don't really know why it's out of its nest so young. I wonder where it's mother is..."

Vollerei watched as the flamboyant one pickup the feathery ball of pale blue with lavender markings. Its feathers looked fuzzy and she couldn't help but reach out and run a finger along one of the feathers. Soft and fuzzy, she smiled in delight. Pillow material!
She cocked her had and looked up at the taller man,
"What's a kinfa? Can you eat them?" Though maybe she wouldn't eat this one.. it did look adorable and was soft.. but if she was ever in danger of starving...

She noticed that he wasn't afraid of the small thing and handled it like he knew how too. Perhaps it was a creature that his people kept as pets?

He watched Vollerei as she touched the kinfa, a smile on his face. They were soft, and pretty cute. But then Tau's eyes widened and he immediately pulled the kinfa away from Vollerei. "What?! No you can't eat it! Well... I mean, yes... you can eat kinfa... but you shouldn't!"

He was almost horrified at the idea of eating something so small. Even when the village did take down a kinfa for a feast it was an adult male. They would never eat a baby... or even a mother if there was a chance that she had young to look after.

He finished brushing the sand off of the kinfa and rubbed a finger under its chin. It chirped and rubbed into his hand in response; it looked healthy enough to still survive, though it needed a mother really soon. "Kinfa are from Tale. They live in the forests and can become mounts. But only if they're caught young. Adult kinfa are trouble and can't be tamed really."

Vollerei chuckled at the males reaction. Why did people think you should eat somethings but not others? Alright, perhaps it was pet material, but if you were starving, wouldn't you eat anything at hand? Maybe cause it was a baby, that might be why.. though sometimes the younger animals tasted better and had softer fatter meat...The only thing Volle wouldn't eat was other people!

"Oh don't worry, I'm not that starved right now! Plus it looks kinda cute. You called it a Kinfa?" Shouldn't eat something? Silliness!

She looked at the small bundle of blue and purple, something this small and fragile would grow up to be a mount? Now that would be interesting to see! And only the young could be tamed.. even more fascinating.. perhaps she she look more into this...

Tau eyed Vollerei suspiciously. This poor kinfa didn't know what was coming to it if the Alkidike in front of him got hungry one day.

"Yeah, it's a Kinfa. This little guy's probably no more than a few weeks old, but when they reach full size they can be as big as... well... I guess as big as four radaku?" Tau was trying to search for some sort of comparison that they both would understand. Tau hadn't seen many radaku in his life, but some of the others around the village kept them as familiars, so he guessed Vollerei would understand. Or at least he hoped she would. Basic point being: the things were huge. Definitely large enough to ride and definitely large enough to cause problems when wild.

He cautiously held the kinda out toward Vollerei. "... Did you... want to hold it?" He cocked his eyebrows, waiting for a response. He would have to keep an eye on Vollerei to make sure she didn't start nibbling at the thing.

"Four Radaku?!" Vollerei looked at the small ball of fluff with interest. The Radaku that she'd seen while with Jerarda had been large.. and 4 of them? Now this was very fascinating! No wonder the earthling had said you had to catch them young... Perhaps she wouldn't eat it then, plus it looked real cute...

"Let me hold it!" She held out her hands to take the Kinfa and had a smile on her face. The small fluffy thing really was adorable.. not as cute as her peoples children, but definitely close.

"Oh! You never told me your name..." She tilted her head to the side and lifted an eyebrow.
