The day had been slightly overcast, making the temperature drop slightly. Not by much in comparison to the heat they were getting. But it was pleasant. However the sky cleared as the afternoon began to roll into evening, Rukbat casting a orange haze over Trine as it steadily lowered. Still some hours away, but the evening was looking to be a beautiful one.
A perfect one.
The evening is nice, Narisamine. And the skies are clear. It is time. Cepheith thrummed, rising to her feet and letting her gaze fall back towards her rider's hut.
Shaff shaff shaff! Narisa felt her brain freeze up, the Goldrider going immobile for a few heartbeats. She'd known it was close. The unmistakeable glow of Ceph's hide had been enough clue to that. Not to mention having had to deal with a proddy Queen for long enough. But... ohFaranth! It was time.
Laughing at her rider, Cepheith spread her wings wide and let out a deafening roar of challenge tinted with a sweetness like a shining sun. She leapt into the air, and made short time of coming upon the beast pens. With another roar, she dove, going for the center of the heard and picking the feistiest of the bunch. Wings mantled and tail weaving behind her, the Queen hissed and sank her teeth into the fighting beast.
CEPH! B-Blood... BLOOD IT! Narisa's mental shout wavered only slightly before she firmly put her foot down. She knew it was important for Ceph to do this. It had been drilled into her from lessons and even Kindra had reminded her several times. Cepheith fought her, anger making her eyes flash red. Blood it, shaffit! If you want to give them anything worthy of chasing, you will sharding blood your kill!
Hissing and grumbling her defiance, the Queen complied, lapping at the blood of the herdbeast. Hers was right. They had to give these suitors something to really chase! First kill finished, she lunged for another. Again she fought Narisa on it briefly, but submitted for the simple fact of the matter that Narisa was right. And she was going to fly hard and long. Yes. We will make them prove themselves.
After a couple more kills, Cepheith rose proudly to her feet, wings spread wide and hide glowing bright. Her tongue licked the blood off her maw, vibrant purple swirling around the crimson of her eyes. COME, MY DRAGONS! If you think you can catch me, PROVE IT. I will not make it easy for you~ She broadcast her words to everyone, human and dragon alike. With another mighty roar, Cepheith lunged straight into the air, wings beating hard as the Queen was off, a rumbling laugh of challenge echoing behind her.
Come and get me if you dare!
---------------- WELCOME TO CEPH'S MAIDEN FLIGHT!
A little bit you should know about Cepheith: She is average in size but she's got a LARGE amount of energy. Really, a ridiculous amount, especially when the mood strikes her! And what better time for her to put that into play then during a Flight, eh? Beware, though, this Gold does have a temper to her. Be sure you don't piss her off during the Flight! Or she will tear into you*. She will make you work hard, so be prepared for to prove you are worthy of her, boys! ;D
*Note: If you are not opposed to Ceph smacking your boy around, make a note of this in your first posts and I'll mark you down as potentials for her lashing out!

Hatteth was lounging on the shore of one of the lakes, basking in the fading light of the sun and starting to doze. He was startled awake by a sudden roar, and raised his head to see what the cause was. The flash of gold and the sudden burst of activity around the beast pens gave an instant answer. A queen was rising! It must be Cepheith, everyone in the weyr had noticed her beginning to glow.
Hatteth considered this information. Normally he no longer bothered to chase queens. He never won, and he had Hyweth now. But seeing her hatchlings had made him start to want some of his own. He still probably would not catch a queen, but there was no harm in trying...
Mine, Cepheith rises. I think I may chase, Hatteth informed his rider as he started to get up.
J'nes was mending riding straps, but paused in the work at Hatteth's words. Hyweth will not be happy if you do, he warned.
That made Hatteth pause. He didn't want to upset Hyweth, especially not when Hers was carrying an egg of her own. But the urge to chase was strong now. I go anyway. She has been angry before and got over it. He was fairly certain of that, though he didn't remember what she had been angry at him for.
Cepheith had launched into the air now, and Hatteth leaped up after her with a roar of his own. She filled his vision now, shining brighter than the sun and driving all else out of his mind. For now there was nothing but the queen and the chase.
Far below, J'nes put aside his work and went to find J'len. He didn't want to spend a Flight with anyone but his weyrmate, after all. She had been Spending the Flight in the usual way might not be wise considering her pregnancy, but perhaps they could cuddle.

((As an NPC, feel free to beat the snot out of Tauvolanth! I won’t be sad!))
DICE TO MATCH: 3, 9, 10, 4, 1, 11
Pretty much every bronze in the weyr was aware when Cepheith started to shine. It was hard to miss. There were, after all, quite a few of them – and some ambitious browns in the mix, as well. Good for them. Tauvolanth wasn’t going to begrudge them the chase.
But he also wasn’t going to just let them win, either.
It happened by chance that Tauvolanth was down at the feeding pens, finishing off his dinner and enjoying the improvement in the weather. Half out of courtesy, and half out of instinctive self-preservation, when he saw Cepheith coming like a bat out of hell, the big pale bronze hightailed it out of there to a nearby ledge. It would be a bad idea on so many levels to get between a gold and her blooding... or even to get too close to a gold and her blooding, for that matter.
Hey, J’car?
Mm? His rider’s voice in the back of his mind was absentminded, distracted. J’car was aware as his dragon was that the flight was a thing that would happen at some point soon. Still, he didn’t spend all his days thinking about it the way his dragon did. But when the potent wave of need came through the bond between them, Tauvolanth’s intentions became explicitly obvious. The bronzerider sputtered some weak protest at having all his evening’s plans interrupted by SUDDENLY FLIGHT, but... well, shells, they were golds. You couldn’t predict golds. Everything else could wait.
See you in a bit. Find some pretty greenrider, if you can. And with a casual flick of his tail and a strong beat of his wings, Tauvolanth was up in the air and pursuing Cepheith with a cheerful, brassy bugle of greeting.

DICE TO MATCH: 3, 9, 10, 4, 1, 11 ((I'm cool with the lashing out, Plexith likes em hard to get lol..nah he'd be sad, but he'd get over it =-) ))
Plexith had been waiting...as D'lin supposed all of the bronzes had been since Cepheith had started to glow with that unmistakable golden shine. The bronze was not at all surprised when the quiet evening was shattered by the knowledge that Cepheith was blooding her kills.
'She is ready.' Plexith informed D'lin and the wingleader barely had time to make it out of his hut before the bronze was off. There was no point in trying to hold the bronze back..of all the golds Cepheith was Plexith's favorite and he was bound and determinded to have her..no matter the stress it would put on his rider..which was mostly stress for Narisa, whom he considered a friend and whom he was quite sure was not exactly looking forward to this.
He of ocurse spared a thought for Ceta too..but she had been through a flight now and she would understand. D'lin was sure they were both level headed enough to understand the nature of flights above and beyond their budding relationship. Still he was gentlemanly enough to feel bad for the both of them even as he headed off to join the other bronze riders.
Plexith was no where near as sorry, the bronze having bugled his answer to Cepheith's challenge, following as she launched herself with powerful downstrokes.

[DICE TO MATCH: 3, 9, 10, 4, 1, 11]
L'ib groaned into his arm, face down on his workbench. It'd been a busy day - a haircut, lunch with a very lady about six inches taller than him, oiled Animith, and took a nap in his office. All in, terribly productive. Oh, and don't forget avoiding his superiors. It was L'ib's day off, he had no desire to be called in for something extra. Shardit.
L'ib. L'ib. There is going to be a Flight. Animith looked up from his wallow and stretched out, spotted wings flaring to stretch them further. He shook himself out, violet and magenta swirling in his eyes.
That's nice, Animith. Don't Chase, we just got you cleaned.
Whoops! And off he went. Had L'ib actually not wanted him to go, he'd have stayed, of course. It fell into the whole 'don't flirt with that girl, L'ib, she's too pretty for you' category they'd played against or turns. As it was, L'ib just sighed and started his trudge back to his weyr. He was too old to be caught unawares like this. (Animith made a crack about thumbs and L'ib made a mental rude hand gesture.)
The bronze darted into the air, trilling a greeting to the gold. Cepheith! You've decided to make the day last longer? Your beauty is keeping night from falling for you outshine any of those silly stars in the sky.
You suck with lines.
(Feel free to rough him up!)

Pipith had been waiting for this. He was always eager for Flights, certainly, but this was different. This was Cepheith, whom he genuinely liked and respected...and though it might be difficult to get him to admit it, even adored. He didn't want to win just to win; he wanted to win because it was Cepheith. Because the others didn't deserve to even touch her! They were not good enough for her.
He didn't announce himself with fancy words, just a deep roar leapt into the air. There were so many other in the air, and the sight made his ichor boil. They shouldn't be here, trying to get their wings around Trine's best Queen. Did any of them even care who this shining gold was? He doubted it.
You are such a hypocrite right now. The unwelcome commentary from his rider was answered with a snarl, then dismissed so he could speak to his friend.
I would be disappointed if you made it easy, my Queen.

((Krith is open to being injured.)) [DICE TO MATCH: 3, 9, 10, 4, 1, 11]
Krith adored flights, adored the thrill of the chase, and this one was no different. It didn't matter whether they were green or gold, though he did find that he caught more greens. Bronzes had the advantages in queen flights, being closer to their size, but he was not to be underestimated.
She bloods, the dragon told his rider, watching her from his place. And I am going to chase.
F'nell grinned. Have fun then. He hadn't realized that the queen was that close to rising, but he wasn't about to stop his dragon from chasing. What'd be the fun in that. And if they didn't win, well, it'd still be fun, and he'd just have to make the best of it.
The brown rumbled in approval, and shot after the queen, roaring his challenge to the others and to her. He always did like a dare, and this one had pretty high stakes.

A Flight, a Flight! Nachith practically thrummed with excitement and wriggled his tail. Sure, she was a gold and he was a brown, but it was a Flight! He'd never miss one of those, even when he knew he wouldn't win; it wasn't proper for a brown to win a gold Flight! Nonetheless, it would be rude not to participate, to show his appreciation for the lovely lady with his best flying.
He gathered himself and took to the air with a melodious bugle, paying little mind to the other males, except what was necessary to avoid collisions.

Z'fer had swung by the Dining Hall to get a fresh cup of klah to last him through the rest of the evening. His day hadn't been as strenuous as some, having had some light drilling in the morning, followed by paperwork and planning (and a few breaks for socializing and washing Calanoth). Still, the thick black liquid would serve him well.
He rotated his left shoulder in it's socket, feeling the scarred tissue pull taut with the movement. So many scars. To think two turns ago his body had been relatively unmarked. Now, little wounds from immature brawls paled in comparison to the threadscores, knife wounds and bite marks he'd earned since. He was only 29 but he was starting to feel old.
Cepheith bloods her kill. A sudden awareness flooded Z'fer's mind and body and for the first time, Z'fer fought it. He gripped his mug tightly and froze, indecisive. He'd known this was coming but he hadn't thought of what he'd do when it did.
Hekate will kill us.
Devith is not MY Weyrmate. The large bronze was already on the move, rumblings deep within his chest announcing his arrival and interest at the edge of the feeding grounds.
Shaff it. Can't you find a green? Z'fer turned in the direction of his own weyr. What would Narisa do if he wasn't there and Calanoth won? Z'fer didn't know and she wasn't his problem. He'd learned his lesson last time around. He had no interest in bedding another first time gold rider. Even if Narisa was a shade less touchy than Kindra.
A Green is not a Gold.
Z'fer knew it'd be pointless to remind Calanoth that he'd won the last goldflight and that his hatchlings were still half grown. The bronze barely remembered that they were HIS hatchlings at all. Z'fer fought the urge to seek out Narisa somewhere in the weyr and instead called to one of his flits. It was Klah, his chubby little black that responded by dropping out of the blue right onto his shoulder. Z'fer rubbed the flits head and thought hard about Hekate, weyr, Now? Before sending Klah off again. Klah loved the redhead, he'd be able to deliver that message at least.
Klah chirped and trilled as he appeared in the air around Hekate. He had also learned a lesson real fast about not perching on her until permission was given. Z'fer's message was delivered in an image of Z'fer walking up to their shared weyr, Hekate doing the same, and a feeling of Now! Klah squeaked as Cepheith's announcement rang across the entire Weyr as she rose into the air.
Calanoth roared and launched afterwards, his broad wings dragging his heavy body after the shining gold. Let's see how hard she would make this. Calanoth was more than enough bronze for her.
((Be as vicious as you like darling. biggrin ))

Ja'syn was actually relaxing for once. He didn't like the idea of districts, didn't like the liberties that had been taken and he greatly missed Benden. He was taking a meal in the dining hall when he heard Cepheith cry out. He turned to see a few other riders heading out.
Brynth?
I wish to give chase. Maybe we can do great things for this place. The brown bugled a challenge back and took a leap into the skies. He pumped his wings to gain altitude. Wish me luck.
Good luck. Ja'syn stood up to follow the other riders out.

V'tur was on the banks of the dragon lakes, his favorite place no matter what time of the day. So he had a good view when the gold began to blood her kill and then took to the skies. Iweith was on their ledge when the challenge went out. While V'tur didn't care for flights in general, he was not going to begrudge his life mate for wanting to try.
And I shall try! It will be fun and perhaps I will win. The brown replied, his two toned brown hide obvious as he joined the group of dragons in the sky.
Either way, be careful up there. V'tur replied, preferring to stay away from a gold rider he barely knew and any comfort that might be waiting for him.

Man and dragon were coming back from a long patrol. It had been a long flight without much going on. They had stopped to help a wagon get unstuck and spotted a fair of flits cruising around. That was about as much excitement as they had. Albeit S’kor was glad they hadn’t run into any of them wherhandlers.
A dragon roared and S’kor shaded his eyes in time to see a gold take off quickly followed by group of bronzes and browns. Shards! It wasn’t just the gold going for a flight, this was a Flight. Of course they would get back in time to see them take off. Do you think you’ve enough left to chase? He wouldn’t stop the dragon from joining in if he wanted to. His answer was swift. The placid bronze rumbled and made a very fast descent toward the edge of the Weyr. It was a long patrol, but hardly strenuous. Tedious, but not strenuous. His feet had barely touched the ground before his rider was sliding down his shoulder as fast as he could. Scarath was late to the party, but not discouraged. He took off soon as his rider was clear of his wings. His would just have to S’kor ducked as the backwind from Scarath’s wings kicked. He sighed as the winds died down. With a glance around for his location he headed in toward where he suspected the rest of the riders would be waiting for the outcome.Numbers to match: 3, 9, 10, 4, 1, 11 *Scarath is open to being smacked around

She was pleased at how many had come. One after another her suitors roared their own challenges and Cepheith laughed in her draconic way. They come, Mine. We will make them work hard. And find the one that is best for us. The Gold flicked her tail, tilting her head just enough to spot those who thought they had a good start. Ha! They'd just gotten off the ground swifter than the others. But she would thin them out!
For all the worrying and nerves she'd felt up until that moment, Narisa was focused solely on one thing: she and Cepheith would give all those dragons a run for their marks! Fly swiftly and hard, my sweet.
Dipping a wing, the Queen laughed yet again as she rolled in the air. My dear Bronze,, she crooned sweetly with a honeyed tone to Pipith. You know me too well. Will you give it your all for me this eve? She did quite adore her small Bronze friend. And was very pleased to see him in the sky. And there was Plexith too! And Calanoth. Iweith. Animith! You're words are like the finest wherry. Show me what you are capable of~
With a powerful beating of her wings, Cepheith rose high into the sky, letting the setting rays of the sun bathe her glowing hide in its warm embrace. And then with a cry - that was probably more accurately described as a 'cackle' - the Gold tucked her wings tightly about her and dove. Straight towards her Chasers. Those that were not fast enough to move would feel a faint sting along their hides as her talons caught them. Clearly, she was not going to make this easy on any of them!
Come and get me! She echoed her challenge, wings snapping wide as she now flew beneath the pack of males.

Hatteth found himself somewhere in the middle of a crowd of bronzes and browns who'd decided to give chase. But they were not bothering him, so he would not bother them. The rising queen held his attention now. She was speaking to others and apparently not noticed him yet, but perhaps he could find a way to make her notice him.
When she suddenly dove in among them, Hatteth chose not to turn aside to get out of her way. Instead he tucked close his wings his wings and turned to dive as well. This meant that he felt the sting of Cepheith's claws on his hide, but he lost no time in turning to follow her. A little scratch like that will not deter me! he commented as he beat his wings to try and draw closer.
