This is a gritty war movie set during the Three Kingdoms period in which many bloody battles are fought in the Wei Kingdom to fight off the invaders from the Rouran tribe that would one day be known as Mongolians. In it Mulan is hardened by the harsh reality that your brother in arms might be your best friend one day and a corpse the next. You will never want to watch the Disney one again.

Shannon Kyra Liannanon no matter what you say, Disney will always be awesome for the animated movies heart that includes Mulan I see the movie for exactly what it is, a lighthearted animated movie made to appeal for the most part to children and not upset soccer moms. Do you really think Mulan, if she existed, fought in a short bloodless war where no good guys died and no blood was spilled on either side?

Do you really think Mulan, if she existed, fought in a short bloodless war where no good guys died and no blood was spilled on either side? if you're going for historical relevance, then yes, it is bad. but that's not what they were going for. they were going for entertainment, which is what they did. not everything has to be from one point of view, which is what you seem to be doing

But when I watch it alone I usually skip right to I'll Make A Man Out of You then stop after the song ends. XD If there were kids present I would show the Disney movie since the 2009 movie is an hour 54 minutes and has no dub. But around adults I watch the 2009 one because I find the realistic and historically accurate depiction of life and ancient warfare in ancient China to be more interesting.

This one seems much more emotional I'll give it that, but the Disney one, like everyone else said, is also really good. It shows the pride of China and the norm of a Chinese women back in that period and it's much easier to understand and to grasp that concept.
