Holding her breath Mag was mucking about under the water hoping a sibling would come to get a drink so she could pop out and surprise them.

Having left his mother's side for a time hoping not to cause his mother or his siblings any more trouble it was still very nerve racking. He’d snuck out of his mother’s view for the first time. The young colt with his ears flat and submissive wandered through the oasis finding himself at the centre hopping nothing would fall on him or on anyone else, what if something came out of the sands to scare him? He didn't like that idea at all; water was usually safe wasn't it? It was so hot after all but he could still feel the cool of the water from a distance away. Madhu continued forward till he was at the edge, so far so good, nothing had gone awry yet. The colt lowered his head to drink. He’d wished he was as strong as his grandmother or even his brother, but he wasn’t he was so shy and skittish like his grandfather. Why was he like this?
"BOO" Springing out of the water the adolescent filly sprayed the water just about everywhere as her soaked form appeared and sprang towards whoever was at the edge of the water. Mag had been practising holding her breath, and kicking her feet in the water, she was getting pretty good at the whole water thing, which helped being in a sea based herd.
"Aaaah!" Madhu screamed leaping back tripping over his own hooves, his wings fluttering in a panic the entire way, it was a monster there was a monster in the water, it was just his luck wasn't it. He tried to get away but he'd managed to tangle his long legs together, he tried in vain panicking to get away still his teal eyes filled with fear he didn't want to die already, why was he so unlucky? "Go away" He whimpered, what was she even doing in the oasis water?
Mag had been laughing the entire time, even when she had taken note that it was not in fact one of her siblings but a male just a little bigger than herself. His reaction cracked her up, exactly what she was aiming for till he began to whimper then as her chuckling subsided she shook herself off. Trotting over merrily she blinked at him, dripping all over the desert sands "Why would I go away? You funny!"
He opened his little eyes finally and saw it was in fact not a monster but another starborn a filly; it didn't make him feel better only worse he'd been so scared of a 'girl.' Madhu didn't like the laughter, in fact he hated it everyone always laughed at him, he always had accidents even by just standing there, and something would go wrong always like a curse. "Don't laugh at me" he said quietly his eyes welling up. He forced himself to calm down his ear were still in their submissive posture not that they were out of that position often. He continued to try and get his legs unstuck, but he'd somehow managed to knot them all together. "I'm stuck..." he said defeated.
Looking down at him with her big blue eyes her laughter comes to an end but a smile remains "What’s wrong with laughing? You do look awful funny!" Circling round she just kind of looked at him, not sure what to do. Magali was used to her siblings; everyone else was an adult in her herd. Her siblings where well able to take care of themselves and generally played along this colt was amusing and new... "Uh I thinks you need to more that leg or something..." She motioned her hoof at one of the tangled legs.
Of course he looked funny "I don't like it, ok everyone laughs at me." he flattened his ears flatter than they already were looking away from the filly mostly so she didn't see him cry as he followed her advice and carefully untangled his legs, why did this always happened to him, Madhu was finally on his feet again, his straight cut mane more apparent, the bangles on his foreleg jingled as he shifted his weight nervously. He sniffled as he took a step only to trip on a hidden rock. Curse his horrid luck, he felt his face smack hard into the ground, this time though using his wings he lifted himself back on his feet. He couldn't understand why, his siblings never had this much trouble Adil was so strong and Sadi, she was just Sadi she seemed so carefree. Why did the gods hate him so?
Watching as he went to work getting himself straight again she snuffed "Course they do, your funny to watch lad!" .Once he was all untangled her eyes went she let out a "Ooooooo!" As she kneeled down and eyed up the shiny bands on his leg "What are those? They be shiny!"
"Well I don't want to 'be' Funny" the colt muttered his explanation he tended to forget his shyness when he was upset like he was now. Madhu suddenly taken back by her interest in his bracelets around his foreleg he took a few fluttering steps back, and shyly hid them behind his other leg, "They are from my mother, she’s a beautiful unicorn." he said quietly, before noticing she was talking strangely "Why do you talk funny?" he asked quietly and why was she so... in his face it was strange very strange and abnormal yet not entirely unfamiliar his grandmother was a very dominant mare, and his mother never let his father give her crap for anything.
"Why not? Make a livin' makin' laughs!" Then she laughed, she found this colt amusing and new. Mag liked new things, she thrived on meeting new people, having new experiences and learning new things! "You talk funneh!" She snickers leaning down and following the leg that has the bracelets, what was that personal space thing anyway? "I want those, they be shiny" She declares at eye level with the shiny bands.
She'd obviously never been laughed at or mocked the same way he always had been, she seemed so free, he bet nothing bad ever happened to her she seemed so odd but not in a bad way. The colt shook his head "I do not talk funny, you do it's weird." she was still laughing but no longer at him it seemed. "You can't they are mine" he said trying to sound bigger than he felt fluttering back further as she continued to come closer
"Your weird!" She burst out then proceeded to laugh again, to her this was just banter, she'd grown up name calling and playing rough why would she act differently to a Stranger? As she leaned back and looking up at him her hair fell into her eyes and as unladylike as possible she flung it back and out of her face. With one hoof she shifted back forward and went to poke the shiny "why can't I have the shiny, my Dad gets the shiny things he wants..." She considered that, maybe she could take it? The colt seemed like a goof, it would look better on her anyway...
"I. I am not!" he protested his mane falling to the side in a rather effeminate manner. This wasn't like how a girl was supposed to be weren't girls supposed to be like his mother? What was it his father had said, he said something and angered mother he couldn't remember anymore it didn't make sense something about girls were supposed to be submissive? Or it confused him entirely or was that someone else who had said that? He fluttered back again beating his little wings quickly only to back into a rock, he couldn't get away anymore why was it only him. He hid his bracelets again from her as she poked them. "No, you can't have them...." he said protecting them they were from his mother. Her father got shiny things? Did he trade like the traders of the herd his father came from? "he must have something to trade for it then..." he said quietly.
Letting out a pout she got back to her feet, straightening up. Circling around him, having a good look over the male she bounced up and down."Cool wings, betcha can fly real reaaaal high!" she found her eyes wandering down to the shinies again "Maybe, sometimes! Buuuut I got nothing to trade.... I do reaaaaallly want one, just one?"
He shook his head almost jumping back again he whisked his tail back and forth cautiously "I can't they aren't strong enough..." he glanced at his wings they were so dull and delicate... so boring he was surprised she even noticed them. He looked down at is four bracelets, with some thought, and hesitation, he offered only one to the filly "Fine you can have one," he said pulling a silver ring off and giving it to her "But you have to bring me back something when you have it ok so it's a trade." he explained "They are important to me..." he added very quietly thinking of his mother.
"Bummer, when you get bigger yea? Like I'll swim proper when I is bigger" Puffing out her chest she was proud of that, she was doing her best and putting in the time and effort when they were at sea or shore. There was however the fact she could never be as good as the boat ladies... or her father... or even her brother they where build to swim she was not. "Really? Coool!" She snatched it up quick as a snap and threw it in the air; hovering under it she caught it up on her ear and jingled it about on her head. "Kinda heavy, ok! What sorta things you like?"
Madhu shook his head "I don't think so, these are Arion wings not Lyra wings..." he tried to explain he wasn't sure how it all worked yet.”Hey, be careful with that!" he exclaimed worriedly as she tossed it seemingly careless it was a treasure! He took a breath calming himself before answering her final question "I'm not sure, no one has really asked me that before.." which in honesty was true he was always far too shy when he was asked or do the asking himself. He shifted uneasily again, as he watched the young filly. Where were her parents? Madhu began to wonder, he knew .
"Wings is wings right?" She had no idea there was a difference, all wings where made for flying right? Giggling at his alarm she whipped her hair back and forth to make her new shiny do loops round her ear "Whatca like doin'? Gotta do some t'ings, do the rest 'cause you want." She nodded sternly to reinforce her point.
