No sign of Quinn when they hit home, so -- fine. Veer liked cats alright, so he'd slip into the kitchen to poke through the fridge for something meaty that he could pull apart and feed to the poor hungry creature as he settled down onto the couch with her dangling awkwardly from his other hand. They could settle together on the couch, and Veer could fumble his way through hooking up his computer to a TV that didn't quite seem to want to accept it.
He had a good couple week's worth of anime to catch up on, and it was overwhelming. There were so many shows that he hadn't known where to start, and had ended up on a random number generator to pick one. Now it was downloaded, hooked up, and he'd settle into it, prepared to watch five or ten episodes straight.
He'd put in his apps. He'd rescued a stray. He was set. Obviously there was nothing to complain about here. And maybe Absinthe would even enjoy the show.
There were magical girls.

Absinthe followed him onto the couch, it was comfortable enough to be sure, but laps were so much better when you could get them, she stepped up onto his lap and stomped around in circles for several minutes demanding petted before the Television truly caught her eyes. Was that… a transformation sequence?
Her ears flicked forward and she planted herself at last blinking. Hmmph, wearing white…of course, she rolled her eyes though there was no way that he could see that from the direction she was facing. Still, some magical girls were better than none, and it wasn’t likely that the creators had –any- idea why white was a terrible color to use.
After a few moments of watching she shifted, and, comically perhaps used him as an arm chair, hind feet propped on his knees, curved back to lean against his chest with her little paws tucked at her belly.
She’d occasionally make irritated chattering sounds at the screen that went oddly in time with the anime, but it was probably kind of like cats watching birds out the window…right?

Unlike Veer, Quinn was out patrolling the streets of Destiny City, desperately trying to collect energy with her mirror wraiths on the fritz. When Leto finally gave up for the night, she pushed through the nearest mirror and slipped out on the other side through the full-length mirror in her living room. "Something's wrong with my wraiths," she said casually, expecting that either Veer or Lydia would be home. Then she suddenly realized there was a second power signature in her apartment and her eyebrow quirked upwards curiously as she moved towards the living room to get a better look. "Veer.... " Leto powered down as she walked over and stood between him and the tv, staring down at the cat on his lap. "You're much nicer to that one than you were to me when I got turned into a cat," she said with a grin.

"Of course I am. I've been wandering the country for the past year, picking up random ******** strays and nursing them back to health." It was offered easily, absently, with his head tipped back to squint up at her and fingers on the little cat's neck. She had bits of meat, she had a warm lap, she had magical girl anime up on the screen -- which, now, Veer paused, so that he wouldn't miss anything important.
This wasn't the first time he'd lied to her about where he'd been, and it wouldn't be the last, either. It came to him easily, both eyebrows raised seriously. "I'm such a good Samaritan, aren't I?"

She felt the young woman before she saw her, twisting her head around to try and catch view of it, ears flicking about though she didn’t quite dare move, not to hope that she wasn’t just being too imaginative because of the movie. But then…there was the young woman standing between them and the TV set, dark corset, camouflage skirt, a transparent and amazing drape. More than that, her host, the young man with the delicious pizza wasn’t fazed at all. “…Holy s**t.” Said the cat.

Of course Veer would toss another random lie at her to try and cover up where exactly he actually was during his disappearance. It had almost become routine for them now, and Veer did it so casually, that Quinn almost didn't even notice anymore. "How rude, Veer. Didn't you tell our tiny precious guest that you're a magical boy that parades around Destiny City in heels along with your butt-winged partner in crime?" She dropped onto the couch next to him, crossing her legs under herself as she peered at the Guardian cat, then poked at her forehead star. "It's been a while since I've seen one of you. Not since I was awakened as a White Mooner, actually."

She could tease but -- honestly, Veer looked stunned, himself, blinking owlishly at the cat for a good count of ten or twenty before finally gathering himself. And when it came, his reaction wasn't exactly great. He reached out to grab the beast by the scruff of her neck, to catch her before she ran off.
He was thinking on his feet, and he was thinking about a fight. That was just how he was now. Wherever he had been had changed him just a bit.
"Are you on our side or theirs? Talk fast, cat." It was a quick change from his initial friendly offerings, the pizza and scratches...

“Aya!!” the cat exclaimed and batted at the offending finger poking her star, the star itself felt strangely like one of those fuzzy stickers that you might have had as a child, or even recently. “Touching that feels odd ok?” She scolded and then pointed a paw, claws just extended at Veer. “Cool your jets magical-boy!” Her little bobtail twitched back and forth in impotent fury at being so indignantly clutched by her scruff. “Your LOVELY lady friend there, feels –just- right, so I am on HER side, and if you are on her side, then I shall stand by you too…you and your pizza, if you put me down and pet me in apology I may forgive you for grabbing me so!”

Quinn's eyes widened when Veer freaked out and scruffed the poor cat, completely thrown off by his over-reaction. "Veer, chill..." She said softly, one hand moving to his knee in an attempt to calm him down, not entirely sure if touching him would piss him off more-so. "I wouldn't have powered down if I felt she was Order." Her free hand came up to meet his and lower it to put the poor hanging cat back down onto his lap. She offered the cat an apologetic look and scratched her behind the ears. "And your name is?" Her head tilted to the side slightly as she watched the cat. "And don't you have some Negaverse Agent that you're bonded to or something? I don't wanna have to explain to any of 'em why my teammate is playing rough with one of their cats."

Strangely, he didn't look angry, as he blinked up at Quinn -- just focused, concerned perhaps, letting the cat go and frowning at the pair of them. It was cautious, was all. Untrusting. He'd get over it, eventually, perhaps...
All the same. He wasn't touching the cat, just now. Instead he leaned back and shifted, just a little beneath her, not quite sure he wanted Absinthe there this moment. Not until he knew exactly what was going on.
"...is that something that happens? The bonding? The other one didn't seem that particular about who she bugged."

“ I am Absinthe, and no, I haven’t bonded to anyone. I go where I like and I like where I go…and I’m particularly fond of pizza though I’ll seldom say no to a niiiice crab Rangoon.” She leaned into the scratching hand of Leto as she spoke, a rumble in her throat of appreciation that made it sound a bit like she was gargling at the same time. “MMmmmOoohhhyes….JUST there.” She stood on Veer’s lap and shifted her back feet back and forth on ‘tip toe’. “We –can bond, I just haven’t locked myself down yet. I am a many laps kind of girl, but not CHEEP. I won’t purr for just any scritchings.

Knowing him well enough, Quinn could feel the uncertainty radiating from Veer. She scooped the cat up and plopped her onto her own lap instead, continuing to scratch and pet her idly as they chatted. "Well, you're in luck. We're never in short supply of pizza in this apartment," she flashed her tell-tale grin, content with the purring cat. "I like that. Many laps but particular," she laughed. This whole situation was ******** weird. "Well Veer, you brought her here. Was this supposed to be some ploy to bring home an adorable cat so I'd swoon and fall madly in love with you?" Quinn nudged him and stuck out her tongue. "Are you keeping it?" She added, as if Absinthe wasn't right there with them.

"She was a bribe, yes, but..." he floundered, straightening as he said it. Maybe he kind of wanted pizza now himself, slipping away toward the kitchen to check what they had. Pizza or Mountain Dew, or something stronger to drink, even. He paused in the doorway to find the right words. "I didn't know she could talk at the time. Never talked while we were out and about." Another beat, and he ducked away into the kitchen to look through the fridge.

“I might keep him.” Absinthe chimed in as though the question hadn’t been directed at Veer at all. “I am definitely keeping YOU, he brought the first pizza though, bonus points for that.” She nodded after veer approvingly. “It’s so cute that you think you’re in charge…I just want to baby talk you and pat his cheeks.” Her whiskers curved forward and she sprawled out over Leto possessively. “Ohhhyes…much better here than out there. Is he like you? That would be lovely, I like the energy when you are in the pretty greens of your fuku.”

An eyebrow twitched upwards when Veer admitted that the cat was, in fact, a bribe. It made a light pink flush cross her cheeks as she watched him move away from her side and to the kitchen. Quinn shook her head at him before her attention shifted back down to the cat in her lap. She couldn't help but laugh at the cat's reaction towards Veer and she leaned down to whisper (all too loudly, knowing full-well that Veer could hear her), "He's just a grumpy butt, baby talk him all you want." Okay, so maybe Quinn enjoyed egging people - and cats - on. She leaned back into the couch, not entirely sure if Veer planned to come back over to it at that point, and stroked along the cat's back. "Well, you're welcome to stay if Veer says it's okay," her voice called out over to him. "And yes, he's like me. Just not quite as awesome."
