The trees would cover up their escape, would obscure them from the two Dark Mirror senshi who'd been chasing; far enough away that dark branches hid any sign of their battle from sight, he would drop out of his senshi form and slide back into plain old Jude: dressed in black pinstripes and a periwinkle shirt that was daring enough on its own for most boys, let alone paired with a coral-colored tie.

Like this, Jude looked older and younger: short enough that they were almost eye to eye, with babyfat still clinging to a face that was just a bit too round for an adult -- but dressed like someone in his twenties, for an office job instead of standing behind the counter and serving up lattes. It was also, however, an outfit that she might recognize. One of her weirder classmates, the one who changed before hauling himself off to who knew where, who always acted like the kind of rich kid that made people roll their eyes....

"If we're powered down, they can't see us." It came out very soft, a hissing whisper, his eyebrows raised. "But they can probably still hear us, so quiet. Are you alright?"

Persephone was trying not to panic right then. She would ordinarily be taking deep breaths, but breathing rather hurt right then, so instead she just closed her eyes for a moment.

His advice sunk in, and the tiny, scared Senshi was replaced by a tiny, scared teenage girl, in jeans and a t-shirt. For once, Cait was herself and not in cosplay, and she looked quite a bit younger, especially when she almost automatically seemed to shrink in on herself. He seemed familiar to her, in a vague sort of way - perhaps she did to him, too; wavy green hair wasn't exactly common.

"I-I think so. I mean, my ribs, but other than that," she said. She was alive, which seemed to be the most critical thing of all. "That, uh, that was really brave of you. Thanks."

She did ring a bell, certainly; one that made him frown a little, head tilted to the side, and with that expression on his face, he looked even more like the spoiled rich kid that so many people at school thought he was. Thoughtfully, Jude turned, shooting a look over his shoulder in search of pursuing enemies, and saw exactly nothing. In its way, that was more frightening than actually having Leto standing there, staring at --

No. Nevermind. That would have been worse.

"It's what I'm supposed to do, right?" He blinked, looking back at her again -- and blew out a breath. Jude took one slow step away, licking his lips and carefully, very carefully, catching her elbow. And trying not to get flustered as he did so. "Um. We should go. But s-slowly. Quietly. Maybe."

Cait blinked at him, looking mostly confused by the frown, and shrank a little more. She found herself suddenly filled with worry that he knew her as "that weird kid," or as the girl with a crazy family - or worst of all, maybe he was one of her sister's ex-boyfriends or something. That would be awkward.

Fortunately, given his lack of comment, that didn't seem to be the case.

She blinked. "Yeah, I guess so, I mean, we're heroes and such, right?" She agreed. "I'm Cait, by the way, and yes, going sounds lovely." She had fully gone into pretend-it's-all-right-and-maybe-it-will-be mode.

"Coffee will help." They weren't that far from Slave to the Grind -- by design, in fact. If they had been, he never would have been in the area, never would have spotted her distress, and never would have gotten to pay the hero. For the first time. Potentially the last, too. He guided her slowly through the trees and out onto a street that was busy with people. It was strange to think that it could be so empty, so quiet in the park, and then so alive out here. Just a thin barrier separating them from the world...

"Um. Or tea, if you'd rather." His fingers were still at her elbow, guiding her along. Two, three blocks maybe. She could hopefully limp along that far. After about ten steps, though, he'd hesitate. "And we can call someone, from there, too, I can get to the ph-phone. A ride to the hospital, if you want..."

Cait nodded. "Coffee will help," she agreed. A warm drink right then sounded lovely, and so did not falling asleep. She took a slow but shallow breath, which still made her flinch a little.

It was easy right then to let him lead her out, back to a bustling street of people. The dark shadows where the Dark Mirror Senshi had stepped on her chest and cracked her ribs seemed far away. "Oh, god," she said, stopping suddenly. "Yes, I mean,t he hospital is obvious, but oh god my parents are going to freak and how am I going to..." Even if she managed to get one over on her parents, she had four siblings that were quite good at telling when she was lying.

This was a nightmare.

"Um." Jude could understand that -- could empathize -- even if he didn't really understand. He shrugged a shoulder, awkward, as he lead her along toward the coffee shop, his mouth shifting and hunting for something more useful to say than just that. His mother, at least, never seemed to notice the dings and bruises. He considered himself lucky that she wasn't inflicting them...

"At least we heal fast?" It came out small, not really all that great, but it was something, at least. "Do you know anyone who can drive? Or who has a car? Uh. Maybe they could help...."

His eyes flicked to the side, trying to think if he knew anyone. "We really need a doctor. Like. On...staff."

Cait sighed softly, but she did her best to fake a smile when he pointed out the one small benefit to being Senshi. "Oh, we do? I didn't know that. That's good news, then." At least she wouldn't be laid up as long as an average person!

"Um, rides...I could call my sister, she lives away from home," that, at least, would delay her parents finding out by a few hours. She was sure she could persuade Lila to avoid calling them until tomorrow morning.

"A doctor on call sounds like a great addition to our side," she said softly. "Or even just a healer or fifty."

Jude made a sound at that, apologetic, almost, for not knowing someone appropriate -- and a shame because, given a bit more time out and about in uniform, perhaps he would. Perhaps if he did more patrolling and less hiding in safety, he'd have more contacts, more friends, more --

He puffed out a breath and got the door for her, raising one shoulder. "I might know someone can drive, if your sister can't." Though, with Breu came Laoise, and he could only imagine what the little cat would say.

Slave to the Grind, at this time, was relatively mellow, only a handful of DCU students working or playing scrabble at a table in the back. Jude waved, briefly, just a flash of hand to the man behind the counter, and got Cait aside to sit in the safety of the table. "But coffee first. Or tea, if you'd...I don't know. I could make hot chocolate too..."

He could at least do this one thing, and do it well.

Cait reached up to muss her hair, frowning. "Well, I mean, my family has to find out sometime...but coffee. Coffee sounds great." Tea had its place, now was not teatime. She sank gratefully into the chair, gently resting her hand against her chest - bad plan; she flinched a little. She was going to have a lovely bruise there, on top of the internal injuries.

"I'll, ah, I'll call my sister." She said, fumbling in the pocket of her jeans for her phone. Apparently tonight was a night for lacking grace all around.

"Thank you. Again." She said, even as she churned over a possible story. A mugging, that seemed ideal. As for why she was out - that would be a bit harder.

He chewed on his cheek for another moment, just watching her -- debating -- and then with a twitch of a shrug he stepped away to make her up a coffee. And, for that matter, to make himself one as well. It would leave Cait with ample time to call up whoever she wanted to call up, to settle herself, to calm perhaps: five minutes before he came back with two cups, sugar and milk, and a scattering of cookies.

Jude himself looked calmer, sinking down to sit opposite her, expression serious.

Cait blinked at him when he stood up, and then, as soon as he walked away, she pulled out her phone and dialed her older sister.

"Hi Lila...yeah...I uh, I'm in a little trouble? I'm at a coffee shop called Slave to the Grind and I uh, I need a ride to the hospital...I'll explain when you get here...do you uh, know the place okay good I'm glad...please don't call home please they'll freak out just - just wait until morning please!" She was practically begging. "Okay I'll see you soon," she frowned, and ended the call, putting her phone back in her pocket. When Jude came back, she flashed him a smile.

"Well my sister's coming," she said, taking one of the cups and adding milk and sugar. "So at least I have a ride..."

"To the hospital?" Maybe it was a bit anxious, Jude settled opposite her with both of his hands wrapped around his own mug and his head tilted to the side. She looked a mess, and he was pretty well off, perhaps just because he'd been on the other side of the park when all the real trouble went down.

"Because you really...really should go." Useless. He knew it. So he drank to gather himself, shaking his head at her. "How long until she gets here?"
PostPosted: Sat Apr 20, 2013 8:17 pm

Cait nodded, acknowledging the end destination of her ride. She sipped her coffee, and then stared down at it, swirling the cup a little. She glanced back at him. "Hopefully soon," she said.

She shifted a little, and winced, but she managed to keep something of a smile plastered on her face the entire time. She wasn't going to let anyone see how badly she was hurting; especially when she wasn't even sure. "Might be a little bit, I think I woke her up," she said.

"Okay. We have a little time then." He chewed on that for a moment, drank some of his coffee, and then slipped away again to get pen and paper. Before he was even sitting again, Jude had his name written down, in almost shockingly nice handwriting. It was too tidy for a teenager, and maybe just a little bit girly: nice even lines, steady weight.

"This is me." And his number underneath it. Jude fidgeted, sinking down to sit on his foot. It gave him just a little more height. "If you...if you want, we could go out together, some. I mean. They're going out in twos. Maybe we should too."

He looked up at her face, and then all at once realized how much that sounded like flirting. The flush started at his cheeks and spread down his neck. "For safety. I mean."
