The RP is taking place in Midgard, near the Riftwoods. Now onto the show. //slapped
The announcement that his mother was pregnant again left Jace feeling hollow and disappointed for reasons he could not identify. Nonetheless, his face remained blank and neutral. Only the resentment and anger glimmering in his eyes gave any indication to his feelings on the matter. His father dismissed him brusquely and Jace left the library quietly.
He didn't want a sibling. His cousins were bad enough, during the rare occasions they visited. And that was only ever for a handful of days, never mind having a sibling whom with he would have to share everything. Most especially the scant attention he received from his parents. The longest he had seen them in weeks was during the ball last week, where he simply smiled and made small talk, submitting docilely to the endless hair patting and exclamations that he was growing into a fine young man indeed, surely he would be a credit to the family. He would be in the army, like Uncle Deilon and Grandfather, would he not? Jace smiled and answered politely, that yes, he would indeed.
Heaving himself up on to his hiding spot on the roof, Jace could see the grasslands and meadows that surrounded his family’s estate. He had no idea why his grandfather had ever thought it a good idea to build a house near the Riftwoods, for crying out loud. The potential for dying simply by stepping out of the house was immense.
And for a moment, he wished that he was free. Free from this place and the expectations placed on him. He didn't want to be the heir of his grandfather. So what if he would be following the footsteps of a great man? It wasn't what he wanted. Angry tears filled his eyes, blurring out the city below him.
If only he could run away... And he could. Mother and father were busy, too busy to ever take notice of him. He could run away and they wouldn't notice it. And they had a new baby coming, so who needed him? Making up his mind, Jace wiped his eyes furiously and climbed down, running towards the back gate where no one would see him leave.
He would be free from all of this.

Giggling as she skipped and danced through the woods, Étaín was chasing both real and imaginary butterflies through the dappled sunbeams. Having lived in the Riftwood all her life, she was respectful of the danger, but was certainly not afraid of her woods. As long as she stayed within the boundaries of the area Daddy had made safe for her, nothing would be able to get her!
Running lightly through a small meadow, Étaín stopped at the base of a trickle of a waterfall that fed into a wide, shallow pool. Eyes rapt on the fish flashing through the water, she crept forward, careful to keep her toes out of the water. Her powers had just recently begun to manifest and she couldn't control them yet... and she didn't want to freeze the water and the jewel-like fish! Sighing when they all darted off to the far side of the pool, the girl sank down onto her knees in the soft grass beside the water.
Reaching a small hand into her pocket, she reverently pulled out the gift her father had finished making for her just that morning. It was a beautifully etched silver ocarina. Her father had crafted it with his alchemy and her mother had fed some of her energy into it as well so that it would resonate with Étaín's newly awakened power over elemental ice. Giddily fingering the delicate instrument, Étaín almost reluctantly raised it to her lips. She did not really know how to play, but the sound was so sweet, she couldn't help but try to make the notes work together.
Closing her eyes as she lost herself in the sound, the young girl felt a brand new sense of freedom.

No one had seen him leave, he was sure of it. Besides, who would care? Nanny, perhaps. But certainly not his parents, Jace thought bitterly. Now that he had escaped, he would be free from every stupid expectation, every ridiculous demand that his family placed on him. No more stuffy balls or stupid music lessons, no more endless memorization of historical facts and facing the constant disapproval and disappointment of his father and grandfather when he couldn't correctly answer their questions. He couldn't bear those, especially from his father. Another way he had failed again.
His feet took him into the woods, where he was sure no one would look for him. All those stories about beasts roaming the woods could hardly be true, only used to scare him into reluctant obedience and acquiescence. Sure enough, he could hear the soft trilling notes of an ocarina. No beast would be able to play such an instrument. That meant someone was here, in the woods.
He headed in the direction of the hesitant music, a few odd notes played here and there in an awkward fashion. It sounded almost as if whoever was playing didn't quite know how to play it, but was trying anyways. Not doing too badly, at any rate. Jace picked through his way through the trees, branches occasionally snagging at his jacket. One particularly stubborn branch tore a hole in it, making Jace grimace. Nanny would not be pleased, nor would mother.
At last, he came to a small meadow, fringed by numerous trees. A small water by the edge gushed into a pool, which sparkled n the sunlight. Jace could see someone kneeling by the edge of the pool. Deciding that whoever it was there must be the source of the music, Jace strode over until he towered above her.
The girl could have hardly been more than six, judging from her size. Her ocarina was what fascinated him. Wrought from a delicate silver, Jace was filled with grudging admiration as he looked at it. It was well made, clear and sweet notes pouring from it despite the girl's obvious inability to play it properly.
"I could play it better." He announced, sitting himself down next to the girl and thrusting a hand imperiously in front of her face, a clear gesture that said "Give it here.".
