It had been awhile since Gwendolyn Caspian took Micah out with her, and it shown when she found herself out of practice in how to handle the small, but adventurous rat. She wanted to bring Micah with her to the gardens, as it would give her a chance to observe flowers in hopes of broadening her knowledge of flowers for her work. She didn't NEED to learn more about horticulture, but she felt like she owed it to Krishna to do her best for him.

She was maybe fifteen minutes into her endeavor when she realized that her purse was slightly lighter, and a quick glance into the purse confirmed that Micah the rat had escaped the confines of his prison! And she was horrible at hiding her turmoil, as she practically fell on all four and scurried around on the ground to find the little rat before someone else found him and made an example out of him.

"This is great. Just great. First time in months I take him out and he's made a run for it! I'm a terrible pet owner!"

Spring was well under way, and the smell of fresh growing things and tilled earth filled her nose. Oh sure some of that earthy smell was horse poopy that had been freshly mixed into some of the gardens, but she loved it none-the-less. Digging around in one of the box gardens with her little trowl, resting quite comfortably on her kneeling pad, she planted the little bundles of green that were ready for the outside world, freeing them from their little terra cotta pots.

Her lovely little cotton summer dress, which started off its life a lovely cream color, was now a lovely splattered patchwork of brown earth, orange rust, and green grass stains. She was leaning forward, taking a sniff of fragrant baby mint leaves before sticking them into the little hole she dug, her dirt smudged face low to the soil as she patted the loose soil around the baby plant. Smiling she opened her eyes, and spotted.... a rat? Lucky for the little escape artist she was no normal gardener. The rabbits who had infested her home garden and eaten some of her less protected plants were now permanent residence... if she couldn't evict a bunny rabbit, well then, this little domesticated rat had nothing to fear.

Blinking she turned her head slightly, her hair flopping into the dirt as she gazed at the furry little creature... who gazed right back. " Well hello there little guy " And she stayed like that for a moment, eyes locked with the small renegade pet, probably looking to passer-byers as if she had decided to face plant in the box-garden and take a nap.

The domesticated rat that Evalia spotted was, in fact, the escape artist known as Micah, and while he was quite the pudgy rat of dark brown and white fancy variety, he felt that he was the king of stealth, though when the human spoke to him, he then waddled his way out. Years of domestication had tamed the wild beast and there was no fear of humans in Micah's fat little form, as he inched closer to Evalia, his nose and whiskers wriggling but never once removing himself from the protective cover of the grass. He stretched out his body as long as he could to get a whiff of the air around her as well as her scent, before suddenly waddling back deeper into the garden.

This was because Gwen was getting close, and she was trying her best not to let her fear and panic get the better of her. She looked what felt like everywhere, even when she knew that rats were kings when it came to hiding sometimes. They were small, and they were smart, but that didn't stop Gwen from her quest. She had to find Micah. Domesticated or not, rats were never welcomed in a public establishment, and it wouldn't be long before someone spotted him and freaked out.

"Micah... Micah! Where are you?" Gwen whispered, walking but keeping herself low to the ground, in hopes of spotting any kind of movement in the garden around her or see his tail, as that would have been a clear giveaway. "If you come out, I'll give you all the banana chips you'd want!"

And that was no lie. She had them in her purse for such an occasion. That was when she spotted Evalia, and as worried as she was for her pet, she couldn't help but wonder what she was up to. Well, there was only one way to find out. "Say, you okay over there?"

Eva was grinning as the plump little rat waggled its whiskers at her, and probably looked quite silly flopped down in the box garden as she was. " What are you doing out here sweetheart? You could get hurt honey ' She talked in that sweet honey coated voice that people do when talking to small children or animals. A thought hit her, and she reached into her pocket, pulling out a rice cracker and breaking a piece off with her thumb into the garden just out of stretching reach of the little bundle of mischievous fur. She really kept them in her pocket for the finches and sparrows that frequented the several bird baths around the garden, but if this new four legged visitor liked them, so be it!!

While she herself was fine with most small animals, as were a lot of others in the area, there were still a few who would not hesitate to dispatch a rat with a quick strike of a rake or shovel. And sense this little fella seemed friendly and curious, she doubted very much that the little splotched body was that of some devious wild rat bent on devouring their garden and spreading disease.

Well.... Maybe devouring the garden, she speculated eyeing the pet with amusement.

At the sudden voice, sounding from very close to her, she dropped a whole cracker into the garden with a very guilt start, as if she were a child who had been caught sticking their hand into the cookie jar. Her hair had flopped into the box garden that she had finished weeding in preparation for tilling, and they were now stuck into her hair, and she had a streak of dirt on one side of her face were it had touched dirt.

' Oh, uh, me? Yes I'm just fine!! Thank you for asking!! ' She said a little swiftly, trying to position herself between the speaker, a teenage girl it appeared, and the box garden. Just what she needed was some newcomer to get the impression that the community garden was infested with rats. One rat was not an infestation, and she was fairly sure it was a pet, but all it took was one person to start a rumor that could ruin everything.

The moment that Eva withdrew the rice cracker from her pocket, the gig was up. Micah the obese rat could never, ever deny treats, and while it did not smell like the glorious banana chips that his owner and owner's sister overindulged him with, it smelled delicious. So, despite survival instincts that the domesticated rat simply didn't have, he began to waddle his way out, even when there was another human closing in.

Gwen had yet to see the little escapee as her attention was completely on Eva, and she tried not to laugh at the sight of mud on the girl's cheek, though she did smile. She didn't think ill of her for it, as Gwen herself was the type of teen to get herself neck deep into some messy situations and didn't care much for what got on her (exception being bird poop, of course). To Gwen, it simply showed that this girl was so into her work, despite her pleasant appearance, and having worked in a flower shop, she could respect that.

"Just wanted to make sure. Say, you look like you work here," Gwen said, trying to find a way to breach the topic about her missing pet without causing a commotion. If people found out that there was a rat, domesticated or not, was on the loose, then not only would that risk getting Micah hurt, but the business as well. Gwen cursed at her own foolishness of bringing Micah here, and she went with a half truth. "I'm looking for my pet, you see. He kind of sort of escaped from his... kennel, and he's so small that I'm having trouble finding him. Have you seen him or know where I can start looking?"

Eva smiled, sensing the girls nervousness. A kennel? Her thoughts instantly went to the thought of a small terrier like animal. " Well... we do have an area with water bowls, people use them to let their pups get a drink when they bring them here, so it seems to be a doggie hot spot, probably because we keep a big jar of dog cookies over there though " She said with a smile, trying to be helpful.

" If you told me what he looks like I can help you look in a few minutes once I finish up what I'm doing. I'm Evalia, by the way, you can call me Eva. " She smiled and reached out her hand like she was going to offer to shake Gwen's, but realizing it was covered in mud she thought better if it, laughing a little bit and wiping the dirt off on her sundress.

Eva's mind was also racing... she was trying to figure out if she could get to the little garden, and grab one of the baby bunny cages ( Used for when the garden rabbit had babies and the offspring were sent home with people as pets ) and get back to coax her little furry visitor before he finished the cracker, scampered off, or anyone seeing him. She had a few more rice crackers in her pockets.

" You should have to worry to much, well find your pet. We have gates in the fences but usually they are kept close because people let their kids lose in the garden, and we don't want them wondering into the street. Works the save for pups to! So its just a matter of tracking the little rascal down. " None to subtle Eva slid her hand into her pocket and then behind her back, cracking off another large wedge of cracker and letting it fall into the garden for the pudgy little rodent.

"Um... I don't think dog cookies are going to help me with this case," Gwen admitted, still on the fence if she should just come out with the truth or not. She really didn't want to cause a riot, but if someone found Micah before she or Eva did, then there'd be one! "Or maybe it would. He'll eat anything given to him without a second thought. Obese little thing..."

For example, he was devouring the cracker given to him at this very moment, aware of his owner's presence nearby but too content to fill his belly with some delicious food. Maybe once he finished the meal he would take a long nap, but the domestic rat wasn't thinking that far ahead as there was still a bit of cracker left.

"Maybe if I give you a description, that would help. Because... he's not really a dog," Gwen said, finally admitting some of the truth and scratching the back of her neck in a mini nervous fit. She was terrible at being nervous, but maybe the truth would help? "He's small, really small. And fat. And he's brown and white... erm, a fancy variety. If you... know what I mean?"

Chibi I'm sorry this is the LAMEST and shortest reply ever. >_> But I couldn't think of anything else to add without it being meaningless fluff. Feel free to reply with an equally short one if you like, my best post will be much better. XD

Evalia Blinked " I see... would this pet of yours maybe have a love of cheese? Maybe about.... Squirrel sized? " She said, her voice careful as she continued to drop little tidbits of cracker for her little furry friend. She THOUGHT she knew what the girl was asking... but if she wasn't, showing her a apparently friendly and pudgy rat would probably not be the wisest course of action. So for the moment she kept her body between the girl and the little rodent and kept sprinkling snacks.

Gwen wore an annoyed scowl, but it wasn't necessarily geared towards Evalia, as she said, "That's a common misconception... rats don't really like cheese, not when they prefer peanut butter or something sweeter. Though, mine will eat just about anything you give him..."

Which gave away exactly the animal she was looking for and if anyone else was overhearing their conversation it would have likely caused an uproar, but with the cat out of the bag, Gwen figured there was no use in hiding it now. By now her concern had reached a fever pitch, and it reflected in her voice as she gave an exasperated sigh. "I'm looking for my pet rat, Micah. He's pretty big, and fat. Definietely fat. He broke out of his carrier and I'm afraid that if someone sees him, they'll freak out and try to kill him."

Unaware of the little troublemaker that was devouring the snacks just beyond her reach, Gwen was practically begging with Evalia now. "Is there anyway you can help me find him? Please?"
