User ImageIn dwindling sunset Ai'Jin found perfect peace, spending an evening wandering the lake's shore with no particular path. It had been some time since she had been able to venture out for a bit of time to herself, but with her youngest foals out exploring their young adulthoods, now seemed as good a time as ever to do a bit of exploring herself. Not that the lakeshore was something that needed to be explored. She'd spent more time along this stretch of land than she had anywhere else since branching from her parent's watch. Leisurely steps pressed perfect hoof prints into the tiny pebbles that made up the water's edge, the lazy swish of her tail not enough to brush away the evidence of her path.

User ImageChandria does not remember when she fell asleep, or even when she woke up in the nightmare. All she could remember anymore was the vast expanse of decaying forests and jungles, the once emerald shores of her dream now turning brown and black with death and corruption.
She felt like she had been in that place for many lifetimes, and she had. She had slept for years, looking for some way to resolve this turmoil or escape it. The world kept turning around her, seasons came and went, flowers bloomed and wilted. Trees grew around her, which was the only way she had really remained safe. She had fallen asleep at the base of a strong pine, which oddly grew near the lake shore. It grew around her, pulling her up to cradle her in its branches, safe from wandering eyes, sharp claws, and heavy hooves. But her time was over, she had spent so many lifetimes in her dream, and before awaking, a great stallion told her it was time to go, she had done enough. He blessed her, and after so long, and she finally awoke from the turmoil of the nightmare.

Her eyes snapped open. She forgot where she was, not remembering a place that had color other than greens, browns, and blacks. So much here was different than the dream she had lived in. At first, she didn't even know how to move, but really, had no drive to try it yet. First she let her eyes adjust; they were crusted over from being closed for so long. She blinked until she could focus, and finally raised her head up with great effort, forcing her muscles to work. Purple was the first thing she noticed. She forgot how beautiful the color could be, and pink too! How vibrant everything was here! She wanted to reach out for whatever was near her, to remember what the real world could feel like instead of the ghost of touch.

Then the hunger kicked it. Maybe she had to relearn what this place felt like, and maybe whatever she had in the ethereal world had kept her alive all these years, but right that second all she wanted as food, and to get food she had to stand up. Chandria had not paid any heed to where she had awoken, the rush of sensation was too overwhelming for that. She tried to stand, so she could get to a soft patch of bark, but her legs were shaky and pained. Pins and needles were shooting up her body the second she tried to put pressure on any one of her hooves. The pain drew her attention, her eyes, and the last fog of the dream was lifted as she looked down at the ground - twenty feet below.

She let out a soft yelp, one that should of been louder but her vocal cords were unlubricated and unworked. It was hoarse and hurt, and make her flinch. That flinch was enough to make her lose the little footing she had on the strong branches. She slipped and tumbled to the ground with a loud thud and a puff of earth and gravel smoking up around her.

Ai'jin's head lifted with the faint rasped sound that came only barely audible with the soft rustle of grass in the breeze, her ears swiveling in attempt to pinpoint where the sound came from. Noises along the edge of the treeline weren't that uncommon, but this particular sound was... Different.

The dust poof combined with the echoing 'thud', that however was -very- different!

Her first instinct was to get a good distance between herself and whatever just fell from the trees, but just as quick as that impulse rose it faded again and she stepped cautiously closer. Her head tipped upwards slightly and she whickered a quiet sound to see what sort of response might come, but as her careful steps brought her closer to where the dust settled again, she couldn't believe her eyes.

'Aye! Ya okay there? What ya doin'?'

The fall did wonders for her mind, any cobwebs that may of been left were knocked out, however, it could not of been worse for her body. The pins and needles were fading, only to be replaced with tender and stiff still muscles. She shook her head, letting her body orient to use again with simple motions.
Upon righting herself, still laying on the ground, she closed her eyes, giving her other sense a chance to work. The dirt was at least soft - wetlands then, or near some sort of bank. She inhaled deep, smelling the nitrogen and sulfur from the earth under the sweeter scent of blossoms and leaves. Sound! Oh, how the birds chirping was music to her ears. She heard things in the dream, but it was like it had simply floated into her mind - now it was like she could feel the vibrations in her ears.
She was happy listening to the simple grace of their melody, but then there was padding of hooves and words cutting though the tune. Her eyes snapped open, hopefully whoever it was did not mean her harm. She couldn't bare the thought of standing yet.
Chandria looked over her new company. Blue! So blue it brought a smile to her face, like a cross between the day and night skies. She seemed pleasant enough, and the druid was always so trusting.
She cleared her throat, trying to form an actual word for the first time since awaking, "I..." Use of her muscles was coming back quicker than she thought, but she still spoke slowly, being sure to put as much force as possible into articulating each sound, "Think I fell asleep?"

Fell asleep? Ai'Jin couldn't imagine where in the world this mare could have been sleeping where one, she hadn't been seen and two, she had caused such a commotion upon waking.

"Where were ya sleepin', exactly - In the trees?" The question was laced with amusement as Ai's head tipped to the side, her eyes checking over the splotchy colored stranger as subtly as she could manage. She didn't like the thought that the other may be injured after that thud echoed over the meadow and nothing seemed out of place but this other mare.

The druid glanced up at the half beaten branches and cringed; Chandria snapped a few of the weaker ones on the way down. She would have to apologize to her bark protector when she got a chance. But first, there was the lingering question still floating in the air. She would have to get used to talking to normal Soquili again! Not that she was the most spectacular communicator to begin with, but definitely better than, ‘ignore the other person in favor of a plant.’ She dropped her head down, smirking a bit to herself, "Actually... Now that you mention it, I sort of unintentionally was?"
The druid snickered a bit to herself. She gave the tree another once over, it seemed sturdy enough. The druid tapped her hoof lightly against the weathered bark of the tree trunk, just to check the overall stability. It responded with strength, just as the druid thought it would. It would be fine, even with a few broken limbs.
Once more she turned back to the other, whose hair really looked amazingly edible at the moment. Maybe she should go find something to eat in the near future? Before she turns into a crazed cannibal or something… Her smile grew a bit; she was becoming more comfortable in this world again. Thought maybe she should stop letting her inside jokes make her snicker so much. This other one was going to think she was insane if she kept that up. With another quick peek of the tree, "The more interesting question is - how did I get there, I can promise you that."

"Ya fell outta the tree." The words tumbled from Ai'Jin's mouth before she could help it but with so much fascination placed on this other mare it was beyond her control really. She watched with unblinking eyes the strange bond this stranger seemed to have with this tree and her head tilted in reflection of her curiosities.

"How long do ya gotta sleep in a bush for it to grow into a tree around ya?" That sounded a lot sillier vocalized than it did in her head, but Ai left it out for consideration as she tipped her head back to look up into the branches, the sight of the smaller broken limbs somewhat making her wonder if this other maybe had invisible wings or something because... She was pretty sure going so long without sustenance would kill a pony!
