It was not often that Thorne sought out herbs for whatever reason, but as of late he had taken to soothing types added into his morning tea. After the traumatizing events that had taken place at the equinox's masquerade ball and the sudden passing of his father, the last thing he had expected (or had the patience for) was the wobbly fawn that had seemingly popped from his recently acquired-totem.

The fawn, whom he had taken to calling Valerian, trotted brightly beside him as they turned off the main path and headed closer to the forest. The vendor in town had been out of what he was looking for, but had sent him out this way to the home of a hedge witch. His bag held foods to trade and he hoped she would accept them as payment; dried jerky from an assortment of game, a couple quail he had nabbed early this morning, and some potatoes he had scrounged up from the root cellar.

He nearly cursed under his breath and the gangly-legged foal collided into his back. Thorne still needed quite a bit of time to get used to this whole "chosen" thing. The deer's company was certainly welcome, however! No one would find him complaining, that was for sure.

"Ambra!" Eva groaned, small figure dropping from the tree in which she'd been so precariously perched and landing rather unceremoniously on her backside- lips turned down into her usual irritated frown; of which seemed to be even more frequent since she'd acquired the young fawn that sat not too far away. She picked herself up; pushing her charcoal colored locks away from her eyes and glaring at the uppity Guardian; grubby hands making fists on slight hips as she eyed the dapplebottomed deer. "Yer so boring, don't ya ever do anythin' other than sit there and act better than me? What'sa point of bein' chosen if all ya do is act like a ninny- Ambra! Did you- did ya just roll yer eyes? Augh! I ought to make a pie out of you, you ungrateful little-"

Ambra made a soft huffing noise and, in return, Eva gives a rude gesture with her hand; turning on her heel and moving back towards the cottage that sat not too far away. Though her original plan had been to collect some herbs from Clary Sage's garden, the agenda had quickly dissolved when a young squirrel zipped by- stealing away the easily distracted Eva's attention and bringing her into the Wardwood. Any other child would probably have gotten lost but, having spent most of her time as an explorer of the somewhat foreboding forest, Eva could easily clamber her way back. Ambra, on the other hand, having realized she was being left, struggled to keep up; knowing fully well that there would be no slowing down.

Emerging from the brush, Eva stops in her tracks when she spots a stranger approaching the hedge witch's quaint cottage. She eyes the intruder and his own young Guardian before sauntering up a bit closer; picking herself up onto the small fence that surrounded Clary Sage's garden. "The old witch ain't here if that's who yer lookin' fer, mister. She bin gone fer a few days now, ain't no tellin' when or if she'll be back." She says simply; ignoring the fact that Ambra had only just made it out of the wood and looked a tiny bit displeased with the fact that she'd, once again, been left to fend for herself.

Thorne had not been expecting the child to leap onto the fence in front of him, and slowed his pace considerably. He was not particularly fond of children (at least the ones in town), but certainly didn't want to make a scene here. She looked smart, despite her young age. Valerian pranced a circle around him before bolting straight for the girl, excitedly sniffing around the fence. The fawn's ear's pricked up as he heard the other's approach, staring in the direction of the dapple-bottomed baby. His tail flagged as high as he could manage, but the only thing he really did was make himself look ridiculous.

"Aah, I was just looking to trade for some herbs." he replied, eyes focused on the other fawn briefly, "I hunt on the other side of Oldcastle and brought some of my catch." He turned his attention back to her. It'd be a shame to have come all the way out just to return empty handed... and the if the girl's grubby fingers and rough looking exterior were any indication, perhaps she could help him get what he needed.

"Are you allowed to swap with me?" he asked after a moment's afterthought, shifting where he stood. He reached into his bag and pulled a pack of painstakingly dried duck from inside. "I just need some chamomile and peppermint, if there's any in the garden."
