Mahdi reached up and took the sweet apple into her mouth. She didn't chew it though, instead she placed it on top of the small pile she'd made to share later with her mate, Auster. She'd only just returned from a long wander and wanted to surprise him with a jesture to show that though she'd been away, she hadn't forgotten him.
Ilum walked through the forest sniffing here and there, always on the lookout for a good meal. He was hungry, though, and about to give up and settle for grass when he caught the scent of some nice, ripe, apples. Smiling, he turned to follow the smell to it's source.
Mahdi looked at her pile, then smiled. There would be enough there for the both of them now. She turned to set off in search of her mate.
Ilum came across the clearing just as the angeni mare disappeared from sight. So here were the apples he'd smelled! They were piled so neatly, he frowned and looked about the clearing. Hmm, no one around. Perhaps they'd stashed them then forgotten?
He shrugged to himself then bent down to dig into the juicy morsels before him.
Mahdi heard the sound of an interloper moments too late. She turned back coming across the scene of fruity massacre just as the stranger took the third fruit into his mouth.
She shook her mane, making the various charmed tied there chime as she laughed, "Hungry, are we?"
Ilum froze then slowly raised his head to look up at her. Oh. So... Not guarded. Not guarded at all. "Heh," he let the half chewed core of an apple fall to the ground beside the pile. "Oh. So are these yours? I thought they might have been abandoned."
"They are," she smiled, "as much as something I found could be. Don't worry though, I certainly don't mind sharing."
"Kind of you," he replied, resolving not to eat nearly as many as he'd been planning too before. "Thanks. Would'a asked to begin with if I'd know they had a pretty mare attached to them."
Another laugh, "I'm sure you would have. If I may ask, who is it who's pilfered my pile?"
"My name is Ilum," he answered with a smile. "And who would you be?"
"Mahdi," she answered simply. The neat presentation had been ruined. She looked up at the tree, maybe it would be better to collect another gift then search out her mate in the morning. He wouldn't know the difference between her arriving home that evening or her arriving home the next morning. Not really.
"Is something wrong?"
"No," she looked back at Ilum, smiling. "Oh no, it's all fine. After all, the world's not meant to be such straight forward a place now is it."
"Um, no?" that seemed like a bit of a change of topic! "I suppose it's not. Wouldn't be too interesting if we should be expecting the same thing day in and day out I suppose."
"I would suggest that it was a need for change which led you here tonight. Otherwise perhaps you would have been sated with a more readily available means to fill your belly."
"Never could resist the sweet smell of a ripe apple," he grinned, taking another into his mouth.
"Perhaps, could I ask for a favour?"
"Suppose I owe you one for these apples now don't I."
"Hmm, If you see it that way... I wish to collect some flowers for my mate. After you leave tonight would you be so kind as to collect some for me and return here with them?

Ilum made a small bow in her direction. It was largely in jest. He really doubted that the strange angeni would be the least bit offended if he failed to make some form of respectful gesture, "I would be honored, m'lady."
His guess wasn't far off and he was rewarded with a giggle from the darker mare.
"I will be back with your flowers in no time!" he called as he turned away to go seek out just about anything which could be considered either lovely or tasty. Since she hadn't specified he figured either type would do just fine in the end. After picking a few bunches of the bountiful and densely blossomed wild flowers he realized that he would barely be able to bring back any if he where just relying on his mouth. He set the flowers down, then started searching about for something that could serve as a way to carry the blooms back to the dark lady.
Not too far away he found a tree which had a decent sized section of bark that had been knocked loose at some point recently. After a few tugs he was able to yank it off, and dropped it on the ground to inspect it. It was curved just enough for his purposes, and long enough that the flowers wouldn't be slipping off either end constantly. It wasn't too heavy either, and he figured that it would be simple enough to carry the thing just in his teeth, balancing the blooms on top and setting it down when he wanted to add more. Simple enough, he smiled to himself as he lifted it to bring it back over to the bunches he'd already collected together. Once he'd collected up those flowers he set back on his way, keeping an eye out for any additional types which weren't already represented in the makeshift basket.
Soon enough, he had all the flowers she could possibly want, and he'd found himself a whole log of edible mushrooms. He'd snacked on those for a while, then added a few more to the arrangement. The edible blooms seemed to be sparse this time of year, so perhaps the mushrooms would be a more substantial way to pay her back for the missing apples. Despite her dismissal of the theft, he still felt a tad rotten for chowing down on something someone else had so clearly been collecting for themselves.
Once he felt the basket was full, he turned back to make his way to where he remembered the pile being. With the mini mountain of flowers right in front of him, and the tiny petals tickling at his nose it proved to be a bit of a slow and difficult walk back, but in time, and with a fair amount of patience, he made it.
He set the flowers down next to the pile, then lifted his head, looking around for the mare, "Mahdi? Are you still about?"

Chromatos was humming softly to himself as he trotted beneath the trees of the forest. He was in a wonderful mood. The weather was warm, the sky was a nice deep blue, and there was a perfect breeze. All he needed was some company to make this gorgeous day complete, really!
He paused, hearing a voice calling out some one's name not far away. WELL, he could go see what was up, he could! He turned and moved in the direction he'd heard the voice from, his head tilted happily. He didn't go too fast, not wanting to make lots of noise... After all, it COULD be some one he'd rather not meet. But he hoped not!
He soon came to a clearing and saw a stallion there, a unicorn. Noting that he'd never met an evil unicorn, he called out. "Hullo there!"

Mahdi had been about to reply to her new friend when she heard another voice answer him instead.
“Now that’s odd,” she muttered quietly to herself. “That didn’t sound like me at all. Surely that wasn’t really me~”
Quietly, she inched forward through the woods, keeping to the shadowy areas as she sought out the source of the voice and the location of her friend. Having dream walked a fair deal she was always a bit suspicious of disembodied voices. Most the time, they stayed disembodied, but occasionally they turned out to be a relative the dreamer didn’t really want to meet up with just then.
She was surprised as all get out when she came around a thick clump of trees to see a strange angeni speaking with the little unicorn who’d been eating her apples. He was so colourful and charming, she could barely hold back her giggles.

Ilum stumbled at the strange voice, nearly knocking over the whole damn pile.
“Why hello there,” he replied, eyeing the strange, spiked angeni. Could this be the mate Mahdi had been gathering apples for? He inched to the side, vainly trying to block out the pile of gifts with his body. It was silly but it certainly wasn’t his place to give away a surprise!
“Hah, what are you doing back so early? I could swear you weren’t expected back for a while yet!” Uhg! Where was that mare? He felt like he was the one romancing the colourful stallion, and there was no way that was going to happen!
He flung his head back and forth, trying to spot her hidden among the leaves, “Maybe you should go down to the river and bath? NOT THAT I MEAN TO SUGGEST ANYTHING ABOUT YOUR STATE OF CLEANLYNESS!”

Totally unaware of the full Angeni approaching, Chroma tilted his head, watching the unicorn in definite bemusement. What on earth was going on here? "I... wasn't expected back? What? I haven't ever been here before. And I don't think... I know anyone around here?" He was trying not to softly laugh. Obviously, WHOEVER this fellow was expecting, he'd A. never met him before, and B. was trying to hide something.
"I think, perhaps, you have me confused for another?" He said, gently, in the hopes that the poor panicking unicorn would relax. "My name is Chromatos... I am just wandering through, trying to find my place in this land." He certainly wasn't local, he'd come a long way from his odd little home, and wanted to find a place to call his new home.

“Oh,” Ilum sighed softly and looked back over at the strange angeni. “I’m probably mistaken. My friend is expecting her mate back and I’ve never met the fellow before so when you appeared I sort of assumed you must be the guy. Sorry about that. Bit of a leap on my part, isn’t it.”
He looked around the woods one last time before deciding that Mahdi simply wasn’t back yet, “Well, I suppose I should wait up here for her anyways. I was just helping her with gathering a few things. My name is Ilum,” he said. “Where, for curiosity’s sake, are you heading? If you’ve never been here before I suppose you’re passing through.”
The other male was large and stocky, but had some rather stunning scales on his back. Really Ilum had never seen a scaled pony up close before and especially not one who was rainbowed, so he was quite curious.

Mahdi couldn’t really hold back her giggles any longer. The two men were just so ridiculous together. Her laugh got louder the longer it continued on uncontrolled, and after a while the shaking of her body made the little star bells in her mane chime .
There was really no point in hiding any more so she stepped out into the light, “Oh really now~ A charming gentleman, surely, but I’ve never met him before in my life.” She paused a long moment, “Or have I?” She giggled again, “Forgive me. I’m not really all that good with my memory and such. I really ought to have someone about to help me with that. A little song bird maybe~”
Her gaze drifted a bit to somewhere off to the right of Chroma’s shoulder and she begun twisting slowly back and forth with a contented grin on her face.

"OH indeed, no, for I am unmated, so surely I am not the one awaited!" He beamed at the other fellow, and laughs happily. "I can understand the concern though... Another stallion shows up where your friend expects her mate... Not that hard to come to that conclusion, and if there was a surprise involved, I can see why you'd want to make sure."
He was about to answer Ilum's question, when he jumped at the sudden laughter behind him. "I am... What? Who?" He turned, and looked at the mare, then, with a smile, he gave a bow, one forehoof outstretched, his head brushing his knee. "M'lady. It is a pleasure to meet you. And it is certainly no issue... I am sure you have your reasons." He blinked, noticing her slightly vague gaze, and looks over his shoulder for a moment, then back to her and Ilum. "I am Chromatos, m'Lady."
He turned his head to face Ilum again. "And as for where I am heading... Nowhere specific. I seek Home, for the one I had is... over, is the best way to put it. Must needs that I travel and seek a new one. In the meantime, I meet others and learn the lands I find myself in!"
