Personality: Dawn is a very passionate and fierce young woman. She is stubborn and relentless in her decisions and pursuits, always making sure to finish what she starts. Respect is something she thinks needs to be earned, and she will not bow to someone of a higher rank until they earn her respect. Likewise, she expects the same from others. Honor is something she holds in high regards, and she dislikes those who use any sneaky or underhanded tactics. Above all she is fiercely loyal to those she deems friends and family and will do anything and everything in her power to defend them against harm, even risk her own life.
This, of course, is only if you get to know her.
If you don’t know Dawn, she’ll first come off as a rather aloof young woman. She seems to have no respect for higher authority and will quite honestly ignore others she doesn’t deem worthy of attention. The only time she seems polite or gentle is when she speaks to children, elderly, or just people she thinks seem nice. It seems a little biased sure, but her aloof nature is not true to her and only a cover for the stronger woman within.
Life History:
There's not much that's very exciting about Dawn's early years. She was born in Ashington, Northumberland, England a year or so before her younger sister, Maria. As soon as she learned how to walk she was romping across the manor grounds and running through the forest whenever she could. She relished freedom and adventure and was always looking for some mystery or wonder in her hometown.
When Maria was born as soon as she learned to walk she trailed after Dawn like a lost puppy. She'd go just about anywhere with her and do just about anything if it meant being with her older sister. Dawn on her part, though originally seeing her trailing sister as a hindrance to her adventures, eventually grew something of a protective streak towards her. There was no staying or being mad at Maria, there was just something about her that made everyone around them smile. Not even the oldest, grumpiest town miser could keep a frown on his face when the youngest Rhys child was out and about. But as much joy as there was in the girl it couldn't prevent the darkness slowly creeping up on her.
The Rhys' children mother had possessed an illness since she was a child and died giving birth to Maria. Their father had committed suicide not long after, leaving their Aunt Imogene to take care of them. They were spared the troubling details of their parents fates, children as they were, until they were older. But that did not prevent the illness from creeping up on Maria. Though her first five years were spent with boundless freedom and joy the following years would be filled with hardship and pain. It became apparent that the girl would become very ill with startling suddenness causing her to be confined to the household more and more often. The doctors came in to diagnose the child and shook their heads, and Dawn lost the beloved shadow that always trailed behind her.
Not all was lost, she could still take things from her adventures and bring them to Maria to cheer her up while she was stuck inside or in bed. And occasionally the child would gather up the strength to go outside for village celebrations and the like. For the most part life was good. As long as they could keep Maria healthy and happy so she could live a good, long life then there was little else Dawn had to worry about.
Maria's birthdays were special occasions celebrated by the entire household and even some of the town. They treasured the little girl that brought a smile to their faces and so the Rhys household was generally flooded with gifts when the child's birthday swung around. On one such occasion, her 10th birthday to be exact, the townspeople decided to throw a party in the square so Maria could spend some time outside. Dawn and Maria went out hand in hand with their Aunt Imogene not far behind. They were ready for a good party and Dawn was determined to make sure it was the very best for her little sister.
As fate should have it things did not go as planned.
There was a hollow attack. A flood, more like for reasons unknown. The Rhys children had always been gifted at seeing spirits, but never had they seen the monsters that pursued them that night. The party erupted in chaos and more than a fair share of death before a shinigami arrived to help them. In a critical moment he struck down a beast targeting Maria as Dawn tried to run to her aid, an act for which the young woman is eternally grateful. With most of the square decimated after the events and with very few survivors, the shinigami escorted the two who could see him (Maria and Dawn) back to their home. Immediately after he ensured their safe return the shinigami erased their memories and left; they had unknowingly survived the most disastrous night of their lives.
But Maria's condition grew worse and not a few days after the event she succumbed to her illness and died.
Dawn was never the same.
The child, barely a preteen, cursed fate and the rotten luck that had allowed her health and continued life while Maria was lost forever. She found no solace in her home, nor in the sympathetic townspeople or even her aunt. She locked herself in her room and ate sparse meals long after the others in the house had fallen asleep.
Two weeks after Maria's death she emerged red-eyed and looking absolutely horrible. She had a simple request of her aunt: "I want to learn how to fight."
It was granted.
The Rhys were not the richest but they were certainly very well off. The redhead started off learning basic rapier training adjusting well to fencing before dismissing it in favor of more forward combat with a sword. It was not enough and she sought out someone to teach her in the martial arts. More work, still not enough. And on and on. In the span of six years Dawn fought, sought out, and did her very best to conquer in whatever art she was taught. Her determination and iron will made paths for her where money could not and she learned more arts, gained more skills, and in the span of those six years she learned not only to fight the living world but the spirit world as well. Where Dawn went hollows were either cut down or reduced to ash without mercy. When it came to the monsters she was a woman on a warpath and wouldn't fail if she could help it.
But for all her years of learning there was still something she wanted to do in particular. She studied as much as she fought, learning things about the spirit world from little sources and even the occasional run in with shinigami. The one who'd saved her and Maria so long ago, with her spiritual growth the memory wipe had become virtually useless and she'd remembered everything... except his face. She could not, for the life of her, remember his face or his name or even something specific about him. The only thing she had to go on was a voice, one that had spoken to her in clear, unaccented English.
Her search eventually led her to Karakura, a wellspring of spiritual power. A chance meeting with Orihime Inoue had her staying in the woman's residence and there was little she could do to argue such kindness. Though she could have probably done without having to be enrolled in Karakura High... Whatever the case she was grateful for Orihime's kindness and hopeful that maybe, just maybe, she'd find who she was looking for here.
===POWERS===
Weapon/Medium: An amethyst necklace.
Weapon/Medium Release: Blaze, Kesshō-en (結晶炎 Crystal Flame).
Weapon Release Appearance: The amethyst disappears. It’s theorized that the small portals Dawn opens to pull out her weapons are the amethyst itself.
Weapon/Medium Abilities:
1: Ability to create and manipulate amethyst flames. The flames are extremely hot and get hotter with any additional influence from her reiatsu. She can either manipulate them with gestures or her mind. When given permission she can light others weapons on fire without damaging the user. In a sense it can be called “enchantment”.
2: Calling of weapons from a “pocket space” she has in the amethyst. This calling changes their appearance slightly into crystallized weapons.
Crystal Sword
Crystal Scythe
Crystal Katana
Crystal Hammer
Crystal Spear
Crystal Daggers
She can collect other weapons and crystallize them as long as they do not already have a soul.
3: She is capable of forming a shield of sorts from crystal to protect her. Given her more attack based nature however, this shield can be easily shattered with enough force. The Last Dragon: A powerful technique where Dawn summons up an enormous wave of amethyst flame and uses all her weapons at once through the power of her mind. This form can only be maintained for a short amount of time (seven posts), and leaves her utterly drained afterwards. It is in essence the equivalent of a shinigami’s bankai though it causes her more strain.
Side-note: Dawn possesses superhuman strength both inside and outside of her weapon release.
===EXCESS INFO===
Other Information:
-Dawn has aquaphobia, an intense fear of large bodies of water. Not to be mistaken with hydrophobia.
-Weapons Expert: Dawn is experienced in the use of many different kinds of weapons given the extensive collection she has in her necklace.
