Rain. Not a heavy rain, but a light rain. Not the miserable drizzly kind, either. The kind of rain that makes you want to sit outside on a covered porch, or perch in a tree under the shelter of its leaves. The kind that is peaceful, and gentle, almost caressing.

Baubles loved this kind of rain. He just so happened to be perched in a tree, perfect for the weather, in the town park. Below him to the left was a pretty little garden, which he was sure was enjoying the weather as well. Directly below his branch was a pond, complete with lily pads, and surely the fish were having fun as well.

It was certainly a lovely day... And he was fairly sure they would approve of his behavior, find it normal and all. They were always listening... sometimes, he was sure, watching him, too. Who was they? Baubles didn't want to know. All he knew was that they must have done something to his father, to make him so frightened all the time, and that they must whisper to his mother, because she certainly acted like someone the rest of them couldn't hear was talking to her. He wasn't sure about Maya or Nys, but they seemed pretty oblivious to them as far as he could tell.

Well, no matter. He was a fishy Noodle, with little koi whiskers and all, and being out in nature with a pond and garden and in the rain was normal. Besides, if they weren't watching him, he wasn't saying anything so they couldn't listen to him either.

Ha! Take that! Baubles thought, then ducked his head for a split second of fear before he remembered they couldn't seem to read his thoughts. Breathing a sigh of relief, the male turned his attention back to the nature below him... and the few Noodles that seemed to wonder about, enjoying the soft rain as well.

The rain was refreshing, the sound of its gentle patter against the ground lulling Din into a sense of comfort and calmness. Her garden would enjoy this gentle feast, having been bombarded by sun lately and few rainy evenings. Din, though aquatic, was not always a fan of water, but today was special. She had missed the sound of it, growing uncomfortable with the silence that had followed since the sun showed up. To relish in the rain she had decided to take a stroll through the park, maybe see if she could find any species of flowers she liked to later purchase.

She hadn't known there was a pond in the park, then again she hadn't ever visited it. Parks meant people and that meant loud chattering. Din was a quiet and relaxed woman who preferred laying in fields than going out with friends, if she had any. Her mother Anya blamed her mate for Din's personality. Din didn't mind either way, she liked things simple. Today was raining and that meant she could visit the park with little to none people doing the same.

The pond was rippling from the drops of rain lunging into its depths, a rather hypnotizing but calming effect washing through Din as she approached and viewed it. The fish seemed happy, swirling about happily and occasionally leaping out to meet rain drops before vanishing into the water. A soft, amused smile touched her features as she settled onto the ground, tail swishing side to side. It was only when a reflection of someone bright orange appeared in the water did she move, eyes flicking to the tree above and locking upon a orange male. It took a few seconds for Din to even register that he had fish like features, and another few to speak.

"Am I bothering you?"

Baubles had been watching the little skeeter bugs dance across the water when a little lavender Noodle had appeared. Why, she was more fishy than he was! Aquatic? Baubles hadn't actually met one before, but he knew there were Noodles like that out there. This one, who seemed female by the soft features and gentle movements that he could tell from above, was quite a pretty one. Her colors and patterns flowed more smoothly than his, with his random as all get out splash of hot pink on his head. The only thing that seemed mis-matched about this Noodle was her ear fluff... but, it seemed kinda cute, he thought.

When her eyes turned upwards, it seemed to take him just as long to register he'd been caught staring as it took her to register what she was seeing. When it clicked, she spoke, and the combination startled him off balance. With the tiniest of yelps -a pin drop would have been louder- he fell from the branch and landed in the water.

SON OF A SEA MONKEY!

For a moment, Baubles stayed under water. He was pretty sure he'd just splashed that poor female, and he was dead sure that splash had been heard for miles. So much for trying to hide from them.

After a few seconds, Baubles peeked his head above water, ears laid flat and whiskers drooping with embarrassment. "Did they hear me?" He whispered to her, eyes wide as dinner plates as they darted around for signs of danger.

Oh. His display and collapse into the water caused her ears to flick back, eyes closing to avoid getting water in her eyes. Her black tuffed ear flicked up as one of her eyes opened, then the other ear lifted and other eye opened. The male's first words caught her off-guard, eyes flicking up to see if she could catch anyone staring. Oh, a few passer's were looking. With a roll of her smooth shoulders, the small but strong woman offered her hand to the male, an offer to help him out.

"Perhaps, but I doubt anyone cares too much." She answered, glancing up at the tree and then the koi like male. "Are you alright? Did I frighten you?" She hadn't heard his previous yelp, but judging by his epic failure she must have startled him.

He isn't an aquatic, but he seems kindred to water. She thought to herself, though it didn't really matter to her either way. Now that she got a good look at him she could assume he was male. He was a nice shade of orange, reminding her of her flowers back home, and while his markings were strange and abrupt they somehow meshed with the orange. Just like a fish... He even seemed to have scale like markings ( or perhaps they were real scales ) on parts of his body. He wasn't bad to look at, certainly, but she was curious how a non-aquatic could resemble fish so much!

His eyes nearly bugged at her response, until he realized she was talking about the others passing by. Oh. He didn't care about them... but if he told her who he really cared about she'd think him nuttier than a pecan tree.

Still sheepish, he gently accepted her hand but used it only for balance. Once upright and on land, he bowed a little. "Thank you, Miss. You did not frighten me, merely caught me daydreaming. I do hope I haven't spoiled your day..." His words were formal and his tone soft as he watched her look over him like he had her. The attention made his scales ripple ever so slightly; he was half afraid she'd think him a freak, being fish-like but not Aquatic at all.

This, of course, not even addressing the fact that he was dripping wet and, due to his failure, she wasn't much better. Sure, the rain could make one pretty soaked if it fell enough, but it wasn't that bad outside and they were both under the tree he had been in just moments ago.

"Please accept my deepest apologizes, Miss. I'd offer you my jacket... if I had one." Again, his voice was soft, and his ears went back sheepishly once more.

Polite, wasn't he? Once he was done with her hand she settled it by her side, head tilting as she noticed his ears flick back. A small paw rose and waved dismissively, shrugging lazily.

"No no. It's fine, coat or not. I don't mind water or rain. Besides, a coat would take the refreshing aspect out of being drenched. It's like a cool shower." Another example of how Din never seemed bothered by anything. She was one almost impossible to rile. So what he had drenched her? There was nothing wrong with it. It wasn't like he had ruined anything.

"I'm sorry I caught you mid-daydream. I know the feeling, though I doubt I'd fall out a tree." A playful, small smile touched her features, ears flicking as a rather large rain-drop made its way past the tree and onto her exposed ear.

"Miss? No need, I'm not anything or anyone special. My name is Din." Settling back down on the wet ground, the girl seemed unlike most females. She didn't care if the ground was wet or dirty, content with her tail flicked within the pond and body settled on the path. Anyway, she was an aquatic! Water didn't bother her~

Baubles was relieved that he hadn't upset the girl, and smiled a little bit. "Oh, ok..." He nearly whispered, standing there a bit awkwardly and having no idea what to do next.

Next... next... OH! Duh. Name.

"It's... It's nice to meet you, Din. My name is... um..." He scratched the back of his head, then whispered, "Baubles..." He knew it was a funny name, and sometimes others would poke fun at it. He didn't think this girl would, though, but for some reason he suddenly wished he had a stronger name. Like... Samuel. Or Richard. Or Travis. Anything but Baubles. Anything that might maybe impress this pretty Noodle instead of what he was sure would make her giggle.

Though he wasn't quite sure why he wanted to impress her...

Her tail flicked lazily, it's owner as relaxed as ever while the male was a nervous mess. She flicked her odd colored tufts, grey eyes taking in his markings once more with interest. Yup. Exactly like a koi fish. How amusing~ Oh? His name was Baubles? It was a weird name, yes, but that only made her like it. It was kinda cute.

"What an interesting name. I like it." She sounded genuine, which she was. Curious eyes peered up at the slightly taller man, her tail now thumping against the ground.

"Why are you whispering?" She questioned, glancing about. Was he being followed? Was he scared, maybe? Or was he the kind who lowered his voice when nervous? Was he nervous? Why? What did she do? Well..relaxed as always Din just let it go. It wouldn't help any if she asked him to explain himself, and besides she wasn't one to question another's character.

The male nearly fell over. She liked his name? She actually liked his name? No one ever said that to him, before. For a moment, he just stared at the flower-marked female, watching her ear tuffs and long fishy tail... Why was she thumping it like that? Why was she looking at him like that? Her gaze made him blush a little... but her question make him nearly freak.

His usually gentlemanly attitude gave way to one more fitting of a nervous kit. "Oh! Um, I, uh, well, I'm uh, you see... Mrf!" Baubles whined, then suddenly slipped back in to the water beside them almost completely silent. After a moment, he poked his head back up, ears laid flat, eyes wide, and chin propped on his hands that held him against the pond's edge. That was the thing about man-made ponds... always with the sharper edges...

"Um..." Answer. Answer. He didn't want to leave her hanging. Why? He didn't know. But he just didn't want to leave her hanging. "Uh... well... there's..." He whined again. Dang it! "THEY!" He yelped, which was actually about the volume of a normal person talking softly, and ducked under the water for a second. When he came back up, he whispered, "They listen to me..."

She was bound to think him bonkers.

His tiny blush amused her, though only briefly. Calmly, the vixen rolled her tail across the ground in hopes to get some of the liquid off the ground, her scales having dried a tad. Suddenly, his attitude changed and he was stuttering and whining. He tail froze, head tilting automatically to the side. He slipped into the water, but returned to her, however remained within the water. Confused, the woman looked side to side and saw no threats, returning her gaze to him.

She flinched at his yelp, having been caught off guard. For a second she just stared, and then slowly nodded as if she understood. She didn't, but he was obviously scared and she wasn't about to go and doubt his fear. Maybe someone was truly watching him?

"They." She quietly mused back. Finally, she nodded and flicked her tail. "Are they bad? Do you need a place to hide, Baubles?"

The male had watched with anxious eyes as Din took in what he was saying. He waited for her laugh, her eyes to roll, her eyebrow to quirk, or for her to just get up and walk off.

But she nodded.

He nearly forgot to breathe when she nodded like she understood or believed him. No one believed him. And here this girl was, a complete stranger, prettier than blackberry jam on a biscuit, nodding like she completely understood and believed him. Baubles was floored.

Whats more, she was concerned. Not like, 'you're nuts you need help' concerned, but concerned for his safety. His well-being. For a moment, Baubles had to look at her shoulders to see if angel wings were poking out from behind them.

"I... hide?" A place to hide... He'd been trying to hide all his life. "I can't hide..." He whispered. "They... they're everywhere... They listen to me... sometimes I think they watch me..." He shook his head lightly, and crawled out of the pond and pressed against the tree, sliding to a sitting position. "They haven't hurt me... but..." He shook his head again. "I'm sorry." His polite smile returned, and his body relaxed a little. "Apologies, Miss Din. I must be talking your pretty little ears off~" Geeze this girl made him chattery... But, he couldn't say he didn't like it.
