And so the Hammer had been swallowed into the fold, blessed with the kiss of corruption that would forever alter his heart and soul. In some regard, Obsidian was pleased that his whispered word had carried on to catch the ears of the higher ranking individuals. The rest of him was steeped in roiling torment and discontent, utterly furious that the one thing he had attempted to scheme had been overstepped by forces he couldn't control.
At the very least, he had observed corruption itself, had witnessed the rebirth of an ordinary human boy into something more.
Still, that didn't stop him from stalking through the shadows of the dormitories where he had first discovered Björn, every nerve stretched and trembling with tension. It was a petty thing to be outraged about, truly. Obsidian had never been a particularly mature individual.
His teeth clicked together for several moments, grating back and forth, back and forth. Things hadn't changed. Björn was still his, still malleable and, one day, eternally loyal.
Perhaps there were more of his kind lurking about just underneath the surface. He highly doubted it, but he needed something to focus on--like wrapping his fingers around someone's throat and squeezing until it gave way.
God, but he could hope.

The Negaverser stomping about might have known all about Björn's corruption, but his green eyed, blond haired boyfriend certainly didn't! As far as he was concerned, the Swede had participated in some sort of competition and done well enough to earn a reward...now, what that reward was, he didn't yet know. But Colin was certain eventually he would - because why wouldn't he? They were together...they'd shared their families, Christmas...so much more; no way they'd keep secrets from each other, right? And a reward certainly had no need to be a secret!
With a black, grey and blue messenger bag strapped across his shoulder and body, the dancer made his way back to Hillworth's dormitories, back towards home (for a little while longer, at least!) after having been to his dance studio for a long session. Because he'd practically been daydreaming, he was slow to notice the oily-slick and discordant feeling that signified a Negaverse energy signature - and not a little one. 's**t--' He slipped one hand down and pressed it against his messenger bag, reassuring himself through the stiff material that his henshin pen was in fact there should he need it.
If possible, he'd rather try talking to whomever this was - in most of his experience, most of those people working for the Negaverse seemed willing to talk, rather than fight. 'Well, the Dark Mirror Senshi do...at least.' he mentally amended his thought and moved towards the signature that stood out so blatantly to him, but tried to make it seem like he wasn't able to feel it out, like it would be an accident. He could pretend he just knew a lot about senshi or something, right? Right!

His eyes had been adjusted to the dark for some time now, and as someone in the distance stuttered to a halt... Obsidian's eyes snapped to the location in question, practically gleaming with a hungry sort of light. Now this was what he'd been waiting for. After the momentary hitch, however, the person in question picked the pace back up. Hesitant of strangers in the dark, was he? Always a good thing, especially in this city.
He made no move to approach, allowing the boy (had to be a boy, this was Hillworth after all), to be the one to close the distance between them. Headfirst into the lion's den, as it were. When the blond was close enough, Obsidian cast his voice out, still unarmed--for now. "A long night out. This seems to be a trend for all of you boys attending here." A statement, or a simple observation? Hard to say with that lazy, almost drawling tone and the half grin tugging at the corners of his lips.
He was assessing the young man despite his apparent indifference, thinking. A small boy, lithe, but lean. Wiry with muscle, perhaps. That was a point in his favor. That meant little, however, if his personality lacked the drive and mettle.
"A quiet night, isn't it?"

Oh god, there -- Colin's eyes just barely made out the shape in the darkness before it called out to him. He hesitated in the shadows but didn't entirely stop until he was a few steps closer and able to see the other man's eyes gleaming darkly. He bite at his lower lip a little and wondered at the undertone in the Negaverser's words - it was strange and didn't quite fit with the innocuous words spoken, but he couldn't place it.
"Well, it is a school for delinquents...but you're a little old to be checking out our campus, aren't you?" Colin's words were light, but he was wary and trying to gauge the man in the shadows just in case something went badly. "Pretty quiet...but the night's young."
Okay, so the guy wasn't attacking yet...he was clearly a powerful member of the Negaverse - but he seemed to want to talk, that was good. Colin was totally behind the talking thing; his tone would reflect that he wasn't afraid, just cautious. And that he had a teen-aged boy's cocky brashness, even in the face of a stranger lurking in the night.

"Am I?" Obsidian laughed, tilting his head back as he did so. "Too old? Kid, you're killing me. Think with me here a second." He leaned forward now, not taking any steps closer to the kid, but giving the impression that he was. "What if I'm a parent to one of the kids here? An older brother? Hell, a teacher?"
His tongue clicked against his teeth for a moment until his eyes lit up. "Of course, you've heard about all the terrorist groups running about. 'Course you have. Hard to tell who's running around with who these days."
"Some of your fellows have some good ideas rattling around in their brains. What I want to know is what you think about all of it."
Obsidian did step forward now, not quite circling the boy--but at least his hands were clasped behind his back. "Who's right? Who's wrong? Or is this whole city just going to hell?"

To his credit, Colin didn't blanch or take a step back when Obby leaned towards him; it was pretty clear to the curly-haired blond that this was a man that liked to loom over people, liked to use his size and bearing to intimidate other people. That was fine. It wasn't the way he personally did things, but it didn't mean it wasn't effective - or that it was necessarily bad as offensive moves went. "I just can't see you as any of that." He shrugged a little, somewhat unsure what was being driven at - at least until Obsidian started talking about terrorist groups and coming closer.
"Who hasn't heard about them? I hear there are some PSAs on the news too." At that Colin did roll his eyes, terrorist groups indeed! He'd believed it at first when he'd just heard they existed, but a little research on his part quickly showed that it was a PR "battle" between the Senshi and the Negaverse; he found it fascinating, but got all his information online. TV was too biased and while the internet was even more so, he could read up on both sides easily and make his own opinions...discuss things with Björn.
"It's a lot of back and forth between two factions...and both sides think they're right." With the man's hands clasped behind his back it felt like nothing so much as a lecture or one of those nightmares where you dreamed you were called upon in class, stood up to sputter out an answer you didn't have to a question you hadn't heard - only to find that you were naked. Those dreams were so discomfiting - just like the man eyeballing him in such a predatory, measuring manner.
"You're pretty invested in this, aren't you?" Because of all the questions, that is. "And I don't even know who you are." The blond shifted weight from one hip to the other, moving in a careful manner so that he didn't accidentally give Obsidian the wrong idea; his bag was just kind of heavy! "Whichever side is really trying to protect this planet is the right one..." Time to show his hand a little bit - at the least his "topical" knowledge of the Negaverse and Senshi. "The Negaverse seems to have the strongest ties here...but the Senshi try to say the same thing. I just want my friends and family, my loved ones to be safe and sound - and I'm not afraid to kick some a** to make sure it happens."

He lent half his attention to the boy even as he continued to pace, soothed by the constant, repetitive motion. So he'd done his research. A point in his favor, considering how most people seemed content to wallow blindly in their own ignorance. As soon as he shifted stances, green eyes snapped back to Colin's face, assessing him in an instant as though waiting to see whether or not he would run.
A beat passed, and Obsidian resumed his pacing. Pity--he would have enjoyed the chase, however brief it would have been.
"Fair's fair. I don't know who you are, either. And if I'm the one who's invested... well, seems like you know more than most." The man flashed a grin in the darkness that was all teeth. As if he hadn't been the one seeking someone out. As if this was all Colin's doing.
The bit about loved ones though... That was something he could sink his teeth into. "Well, then I wouldn't get too friendly with the Senshi if I were you." The general drawled, absently looking his hand over for a long moment. "Not if you love the Earth, at any rate."
Just a little tidbit of information--see if he'd bite or not.

The constant pacing was distracting and slightly grating when paired with the air pouring off the red-head; was it calculatedly so? Colin couldn't be certain, but it definitely was driving him slightly to distraction. Even so, he stood his ground and tried to not let the other man distract him with either his actions or his words; the pacing may have been soothing to Obsidian, but it certainly wasn't to young mister Hargrove.
"True. You don't. But you know more about me than I know about you." Kind of. His attendance of Hillworth counted but little. "I have to. I'm out at the studio a lot in the evenings. If I didn't pay attention to the news I wouldn't know where to avoid. It's not like I want to get mugged, fall into terrorist hands or worse." Like death. And he was being at least partially truthful; many of his sessions at the dance studio did keep him out fairly late in the evenings, but the main reason that he'd be out late in the evenings anymore...was on a Senshi patrol. That little tidbit was not something he'd be telling this strange, strange red-headed man, no matter how creeptastic he might get or how much he might pace about in the shadows.
Colin frowned at Obsidian's words, "What do you mean, about the Senshi and the Earth?" Because if there was one thing he definitely loved...it was this beautiful, crazy planet that he'd been born to, and it's people. "I mean, they seem like they only want to do good things." Of course, both sides did - in the media...but since he was a Senshi...well, it only made sense that he ask in that manner, didn't it?
Oh, Hargrove bit. The dancer bit hard.

"Oh, I don't know about that." A finger tapped against his own cheek for a moment. "Like I said, I could be someone you know really well. You'd never even know." Chew on that for a while, kid, see how that feels. The mention of a studio made his brows arch for a moment, thinking. His eyes dropped to the other's bag after a moment. Some sort of sport... What, like a dance studio?
Ugh. The general didn't quite curl his lips, but fortunately, Colin distracted him from saying exactly what was on his mind.
"You don't know?" He laughed, turning on his heel as though beginning to leave. Judging by his pace, Colin was supposed to follow--or never know the truth. The redhead did raise his voice so he could be heard. "The Senshi aren't from this place. The sooner they can take over the Earth and drive out its natural inhabitants, the better. The Negaverse, well. We aren't about to let that happen. The Earth is our home, always has been, and always will be."
His pause was deliberate before he glanced back over his shoulder to study the blond. "You'd hate for those loved ones of yours to get wiped out by a bunch of aliens, right?"

What a weirdo. Colin couldn't figure this guy out...not that he was so sure he wanted to figure him out at all. A creepy older guy, walking around Hillworth at night, apparently stalking the students. What was he, some sort of freaky *****? that thought brought up all sorts of nasty thoughts that the blond tended to keep firmly and securely locked back into a dark, neglected corner of his mind, but he shoved them back aside. He'd had an awful lot of practice doing so, plus the weird guy was walking off in a manner that suggested he should follow if he wanted to find out what he meant by that "I could be someone you know very well" comment.
"What...the hell. No way." His stomach dropped and he narrowed his eyes at the retreating back for a moment before taking the bait once more - if he got dangerous, he could always take care of himself, right? It's not like 'Aegir' was a pushover - or Colin himself, for that matter!
"Why would I know something like that?" Obsidian walked while speaking and Hargrove followed, frowning deeply. Sure, he knew that the soldiers were aliens...that he was supposedly an alien (even though there was photographic proof positive that years ago he'd come screaming out of his mother in a rush of blood and amniotic fluid)...but hearing it from this guy was jarring. It was supposed to be. Also, why would a civilian know something like that? He was playing the part of a civilian, so he must continue acting like one. "So that much is true then...you guys really are protecting the Earth..."
So much to think about...so very different from what he'd been lead to believe, first from Castor and later from that...weird primer book some female Senshi had typed up. Of course, the thought that 'his people' were aliens wasn't a horrible thought, really - it was cool, actually. In theory. Thinking that he himself wasn't of the Earth however, was not. "Yeah, I would." He glared at Obsidian, something about this man reminded him WAY too much of someone else - especially in the way he seemed to expect Colin to follow, the snappish, half-mocking tone he spoke in...that chilling gleam in his eyes.
"But...why would they all be after the Earth? I mean, there's supposed to be a lot of them, right? They can't all have this one planet." And what about the Negaverse? If they were truly champions of Earth...why hadn't he ever heard of them before? Why had he himself fought against some that were hurting civilians, taking their starseeds or energy? Nothing made sense and he wished for one moment that his big ol' boyfriend were with him...at least, until he thought about what this guy might do to the strongman.

"So you know who I am. Or at least, you have an idea." Obsidian's eyes practically gleamed with satisfaction at that. "Is that something you found floating around on the internet too?" He supposed it'd be easy enough to determine that by bashing one group, he was for the other... but where was the fun in that? After thrusting yet another verbal dagger, the general seemed content enough to let it drop.
A shrug. "You've done more research than most. How should I know what you do and don't know?"
Still, there was no denying the small flicker of pleasure that always came when someone responded as obediently as any mutt. "They all have many planets." Obsidian corrected lightly. "Think of it as a collection. The Moon princess fell in love with a prince of the Earth, and so they went to war. Both sides suffered, but the Earth still stands, as you can see."
The general waved a hand, encouraging the boy to speak. "You clearly have questions. Go on, then. I've got all night."

Feeling stupidly brave but also knowing that if this guy really was part of the Negaverse (and boy did he look it) he could be in a lot of trouble really fast, Colin went for truth. "Yeah. You're a Negaverse soldier. Agent. Whatever you guys call yourselves." How he knew, he wasn't going to say, screw that! Obsidian could suck it for all he cared on that point!
"If...wait, why would they go to war if they were in love? It doesn't make sense..." Like, oh...anything about wars made sense. Ever. "I'm sure there's stuff that neither side wants to talk about. That's how wars go." Colin wanted to rub his temples - this guy's mood changed faster than tempo in a badly choreographed piece of music! The biggest question he wanted to ask was why. Why - if the Negaverse really did want to protect this planet - why did they start out by hurting so many of it's citizens? Starseeds and energy draining, youma and attacks. The Senshi side didn't go out of their way to do anything but stop those attacks, as far as he knew.
Would the red head answer? "They say the Negaverse was killing people...that they were just protecting those people. What really happened?"

"Because their love wasn't supposed to be. All Romeo and Juliet, you get it?" Kids had to read Romeo and Juliet in this shithole of a school still, as far as he was aware. Never cared about it much himself. What he did care about was how much Colin knew... but by the stubborn set of the boy's jaw, he figured he'd have to pry his tongue out to get anything. He wouldn't mind it, really.
Now that was a good question, and Obsidian was silent for a moment or two, thinking. Of course he was going to lie, but there was a clever way of doing it--crafting it into something that could be believed. "Not our proudest moment," He finally said, not denying it. "Our first leader was a blind fool. He fell in love with a woman--the woman who was to be the Queen of us. We attacked humans and senshi alike, gathering energy so that we could summon her back into a human vessel..."
There was no grin on his face now, and his eyes blazed like emeralds in the darkness. "He and her... both were punished by our true leader for forsaking our protection of the planet and pursuing their own, foolish whims. Those of us who remain understand our true purpose now... well, we do our part to keep this planet safe. We won't lose it again, not to some outside, invading race."

"Yeah. I guess I get that." He grumped a little bit, not because of the red-head's words, but because he wasn't a big fan of the story. "I never much liked Romeo and Juliet." Too much stupidity, too stupid...too much crap that he didn't think should have happened - or could have...at least, that's how he felt now. Someday (possibly soon) he might feel differently, but whatever.
When Obsidian started talking about how the attacks weren't the Negaverse's proudest moment, he let out a breath; had he been holding it? Wow. A lie he expected, but it totally sounded like he was getting the truth - which...was kind of shocking and left him momentarily speechless. "Sounds like love causes a lot of problems for both teams." He pushed one hand through his curly hair and half smiled, "Talk about the story of the world...it's either the reason people are super happy or totally miserable." And he personally was super happy, thank you very much!
"Sucks that they screwed up like that, 'cause it's caused a lot of fear and problems. But you already know that." Colin moved a little closer to the taller man, murmuring thoughtfully as he did so. "All that work and it just made life harder...made keeping the Earth safe harder, since people have a hard time trusting someone - er, groups that uh, hurt them. And you lost your Queen." Maybe he was lying but the Hillworth attendee seemed to believe him and the story being spun. "Guess that's not common knowledge, or it would've been somewhere online..."
Oh! A Queen, huh? That reminded him of something Navi had said about the Dark Mirror Princess. Ares. Were they any sort of relation? Now that was something he couldn't ask - no way. Obsidian would know something was up then. "By the way...what's your name? Like, what do they call you in the Negaverse?"

"It's why I think love is overrated." Obsidian said dryly, and he inclined his head in reluctant agreement. "They paid for it dearly." The words were toneless, and perhaps tinged with a hint of something else. Grief? Regret? It was impossible to say.
He snorted softly at the mention of that information not being online, offering the boy an incredulous look. "Why would it be? Even if we put it out there, who do you think would believe a story like that? We have proof... but not anything that can exactly be shared with the public." How long had it been since he'd played a role like this? Far too long--it felt uncomfortable and awkward. Hopefully that would lend itself to the performance.
His name. Obsidian's grin returned at that, his tongue clicking against his teeth as though to chide the boy. "That's dangerous information you're asking for. Are you so eager to put a target on your back?"
Still, it couldn't do any harm. His name should have already been known even if it did somehow get back to the senshi. He'd killed them--and reveled in it. "General Obsidian. Now it's your turn."
