Cairbre always had more fun at night. Of course, an Azrein as bright as he was, was absolutely useless on any kind of raid or patrol. But he was great if you were trying to be seen. And of course, he usually did. After all, he was the son of two great partiers, and Cairbre had quite a reputation to live up to. He floated along, humming a song to himself. It wasn't as though he couldn't walk, he simply preferred not to. For one thing, it felt odd, since his legs didn't bend. It made him look like an oddly shaped rabbit to hop awkwardly about, and that did nothing for his image. For another, he didn't like getting his legs dirty. Cleaning took on a whole new meaning when half your body was made of glowsticks.

He glanced around, judging the area to be empty enough. He had the reputation, but he was still infernally shy. He had to get over this stage fright thing. He knew he could sing as well as his dad could, but it was much harder to convince himself others would agree. So here he was, in the middle of the woods in the middle of the night, to give a concert that no one would hear. He gave a theatrical bow to an invisible audience, and opened his mouth, letting the notes flow in his lovely tenor voice. "Exile... it takes your mind... again..."

He was so focused on the song, he had not even heard the mare's approach. At her innocent statement he jumped, and if he hadn't been floating he probably would have stumbled and fallen on his butt. Someone was out here?! He looked wildly about until he spotted her. No wonder he hadn't spotted her; her colors and patterns helped her to blend in with the forest around them. But so lovely. And she apparently liked his song! "Ah! Um, oh.. hi!" He knew he was blushing. "I, ah, thank you! Were.. were you standing there the whole time?"

His blush deepened. "Well, no, not exactly. You did nothing wrong. I just.. I just hadn't expected anyone to be out here. I come out here to practice, where no one else has to hear. I'm not that great." He blinked. "My lights? Oh! You mean my glowsticks! They're my legs. And my wings. I was born this way, though no one really knows why; neither of my parents have them." He smiled a little, flipping quickly so the glow trailed in a rainbow ribbon. "I'm Cairbre, Cairbre Dio. Who are you?"

Cairbre smiled at her. "Thank you for that. It's hard to believe sometimes, when I know those who are much better at it, even in my own family." He cocked his head to the side, silently considering what he remembered of the great maps in the town nearby. "If I remember right, we're a few miles from a decent sized town, kind of in the middle of the northern half of the island. I'm not entirely sure, though. I'm a bit of a wanderer myself."

"Thank you! I'm still learning from my father - he's been singing since before I was born, it's what brought my parents together. He's really much better than me, but I'm glad I'm getting better." He smiled and ducked his head shyly. "Adventurer, then." He glanced up at her and caught her wince. Instantly his protective side flared up and he stepped close, concerned he might have missed an injury. "Are you okay? Do you need help? I'm no doctor, but I'll do whatever I can!"

Cairbre blinked, for once completely stunned. What on earth was a pregnant mare doing out in the middle of the woods, far from her home, with nary another in sight? Why had this Haides or her mother let her stray so far? "P-pregnant? How far is home?" He looked her over critically, using his light in a (for once) productive fashion so he could see her better. "I hope it's not too far. You already seem to need a lot of rest. If you're not from around here, I don't know if it will be safe for you to make it all the way back, adventurer or not."

Alarmed, Cairbre immediately ran to her side. "Beta! Are you all right?!" On his own, he decided he would take her back to town with him. He sure wasn't going to let someone so obviously in need of aid alone until he was damn sure she was all right. Cairbre himself didn't have any medical knowledge worth talking about, but he knew there was a doctor in town who had worked with Azrein before. For the moment, he needed to see if she could walk at all. "Beta, Avandere is pretty far from here. How about you come with me to town, okay? You'll be safe and warm there, I promise. The doctor, she's really good at what she does. And.. and if she says you're good, and you really have to go home after that, I'll go with you. Okay?" He didn't stop to wonder why he absolutely needed to help this strange, eavesdropping, pregnant mare. He just knew that he needed to.
