She'd noticed the signs. Definitely noticed. And she'd been told what to expect. Heard what Kindra had gone through, and seen how the bronzerider's and brownrider's had been paying extra attention (or attempting to) to her and Cepheith. Who found all of this amusing and did not understand why her rider might feel differently. Any talk the two had tried having about Flight's had... not gone well. Usually with Narisa bright red and singing some happy song in her mind to block out the Gold.
But today? Today she was feeling the weight of it on her shoulders. What, with everything else that had been going on. Narisa was stressing.
After about the fifth time she caught herself just pacing back and forth in her hut, the Goldrider groaned and sat heavily on her bed, trying to find something - anything - to help her relax. So far, nothing was working. And talking about it had proven worse. But... maybe she just wasn't talking to the right people? Not that those she had talked with weren't helpful! Just... she needed a friend.
A goofy and easy going friend.
Like a certain bronzerider.
Smiling, Narisa slipped her feet into her boots and walked out to meet her dragon. "Ceph, can you ask Pipith if Set'al is free?"
Of course they are! The Gold replied, extending a leg to allow her rider to sit on her back. Cepheith was in a good mood. And feeling playful. Once her rider was on, she prowled through Trine's grounds towards a familiar hut and bronze. Pipith! I hope you don't mind some company? Cepheith said by way of greeting.
Narisa just shook her head, sliding down from Cepheith's back to walk-borderline-jog to the door of the hut. "Set'al? I hope you're decent." She said before letting herself in.

We should go and visit Cepheith and Hers, Pipith insisted. Again. Set'al had lost track of just how many times the bronze had said that or something similar recently. Pipith wanting to spend time with the gold was nothing new - and they often did - but this was different. She was proddy. That was awkward. Maybe not for the dragons, but for Set'al? So very awkward.
No. I don't want them to think we're visiting just because Ceph's going to Rise soon.
We visit all the time. Why should this be any different? he argued from his sunning spot, even as the Queen greeted him. He returned her greeting with a gentle swell of warm feelings, bolstered by a deep thrum. He deigned not to forewarn His that they had visitors - it would serve him right! Cepheith. Your company is as welcome as ever, my Queen. I trust that you and Yours are well? The little bronze shifted, tucking in his wings in a silent invitation for Cepheith to come close and join him.
It just i- Oh. Oh, crap. At the sound of the goldrider's voice, Set'al nearly jumped out of his skin...which, fortunately, was not all he was wearing: he had pants on! He was very glad he did.
Shaking off the surprise - and cursing his dragon mentally - he slapped on an easy grin. "And what if I'm not?"

The Gold was quite happy to see her Bronze friend, humming her approval as she moved to bump noses with him. We are, my Bronze. Though mine seems to be ready to pull out all her hair. Silly creatures, are riders! Cepheith was definitely not one to pass up the silent invitation to join her friend. She carefully settled beside Pipith, eyes a magnificent sky blue in her good mood.
Or maybe it was a slightly more flirty mood.
Her rider agreed with this. And just shook her head at the two dragons. "You are horrible, Ceph." She muttered, a smile appearing as she heard Set'al's response. "Then you'd best grab the nearest blanket." Narisa teased, slipping inside and closing the door. As if that would block out the dragons.
She regarded her friend, and felt a little guilty just dropping in on him unannounced. "Sorry. I'm not actually being a bother, am I?" Maybe she should have put more thought into what she was doing.
Don't ours just look adorable together? Really, they should stop being so funny around one another! Cepheith said playfully to Pipith, deciding to include the two humans in as well.
Narisa rubbed at her face, silently cursing the Gold, cheeks red. "Set'al... I don't know what I'm going to do about... this." She gestured towards the proddy Gold, encompassing the eminent Flight that would soon be upon them all.

Her bronze. He liked that, very much. Pipith thrummed with her, the color of his eyes shifting to match hers. Cepheith's company always made him happy, no matter the circumstances, but with the gold about to Ride, he derived a different sort of enjoyment from her affection. It gave him hope, confidence, being her bronze. Her favor could give him an advantage!
The bronze arched his neck proudly, and as always, agreed with the Queen. They are! They fuss so over Flights. I have never understood why.
"It's too warm for blankets," Set'al retorted with a snort. "But it's safe, anyway." Unless being shirtless coutned as being indecent, which he was sure it didn't...especially in a climate like Trine's.
"Never," he was quick to reassure his friend. It might be unexpected - and potentially awkward, given her dragon's state - but he would never be unhappy to see Narisa, or even bothered by her presence. Just...possibly made slightly uncomfortable. Something with which Cepheith was not helping. Going a bit red himself, he cleared his throat and didn't acknowledge the comment. There were some things he tried not to think about, and that was among them.
They do! Pipith chortled. He wouldn't usually describe His - or anyone or anything else - as 'adorable,' but he would go with the proddy gold on this one. And they get along very well, even when they are being funny about it.
"Wh- Oh. That." That. The dragon in the room, as it were. The bronzerider lost his cheerful tone and looked distinctly more nervous. "Uh. Anything in particular about...it?"
Oh, Faranth, this was going to be the most awkward conversation ever. He could tell already.

She did not miss the way Pipith arched his neck proudly. And she rather liked it. Not to mention the way he always agreed with her. Cepheith was also noticeably a little more touchy feely, leaning into her Bronze companion as they teased their rider's. They just like to fuss over everything they possibly can. Cepheith agreed, shaking her head slightly.
At least we get to enjoy one anothers company and be amused at the same time! She giggled softly in a draconic way.
Narisa just rolled her eyes. "Fine, then I would have just thrown my boot at you. Surely that would cover up everything, right?" Okay maybe a little more sassy then she'd meant. Shaffit! Cepheith's proddiness kept rubbing off on her. Sighing heavily - and completely missing that her friend was probably uncomfortable - she moved to sit in a chair. "Sorry." She murmured, closing her eyes and working to put a firm 'barrier' up between her thoughts and Cepheith's. As little good as it would do anyway.
"Yes. That." She looked over at her friend and just gave him a look. "I don't shaffing know how to even prepare myself for... well, what will happen." With any of the rider's whose dragons were Chasing. And it was right about then that it did, finally, occur to her that Set'al might be one of said rider's. OhsweetFaranth!
Well, they are quite a handsome pair. Her dragon added helpfully. Oh look! They're really acting funny this time! Cepheith chortled, nuzzling Pipith.
Narisa flushed, feeling the room suddenly heat way up. And she just wanted the ground to open up and swallow her right then and there.

The inevitable answer to that question was, of course, 'no,' and he almost said it. If the situation hadn't been what it was, he probably would have done more than open his mouth only to snap it shut after thinking better of the innuendo. Normally, it would have been funny, but...with the reason for Narisa's visit, it was probably a bit too inappropriate. The last thing he needed to do was make things even more awkward.
"Oh. Um. You can just, uh, lock your door. If you want." Which she almost certainly knew already, since Flights were something that had to have been covered in whatever lessons it was that goldriders got, so that probably wasn't what she was actually worried about. So what part of it was she worried about? And why was she here? Wasn't this girl talk? Not that- not that he minded her coming to him to talk, per se, but the awkward. So much awkward. For so many reasons.
You should hear Mine thinking, Pipith shared cheerfully with his golden friend, keeping up his soft but steady thrum as he nuzzled her back. Trying to think, anyway. It is most amusing. Is Yours having the same trouble?
Stifling the urge to pace by sitting on the edge of his bed, Set'al sent his dragon a sharp mental jab. Are you going to help me out here, or are you just going to laugh at me?
I think you know exactly what I would suggest, Mine, and you would not approve. So I will merely observe.

"I know that!" She groaned in response, not meeting his eyes. And pretending her cheeks were not flaming at this point. Sweet Faranth! Why had she dumped all this on him? It wasn't like she hadn't talked with Kindra about all if it! But... Narisa wasn't even sure now what she expected Set'al to tell her. Why...
Because you trust him. And like him. I like them both too. Cepheith said cheerfully.
You like everyone right now. Especially if they have a handsome hide!
Maybe I just have excellent tastes. The Gold snickered, happily accepting all attention from Pipith. Yes, Mine is having the same trouble. And is telling me over and over that I am ridiculous! Cepheith snorted. Do you think I am ridiculous?
Narisa did her best to block out her dragon, sitting quietly as she attempted to find some semblance of thought that wasn't tainted by a proddy Queen. "What if... if we choose wrong?" She finally asked quietly.
You should just tell Yours to do what he wants to. This funny dancing of words and jumbled thoughts is going to get them no where. The Queen observed airily to her bronze companion.
((Omg this is horrible and fantastic all at the same time! xDDD ))

Set'al wasn't sure what Narisa expected him to tell her either, though he wished he did. Thinking about his friend in the context of Flights - or any other more-than-friendly context- was something he had always tried very hard to avoid. Not that he always succeeded, but he tried! She was his friend, not to mention Junior Weyrwoman. That alone was enough to make it intimidatingly complicated. And it wasn't like he had a lot to offer; he was just the goofy, underachieving bronzerider.
And she was worried about choosing wrong. Yeah, pretty much anyone but him and she'd be fine. Most of the other bronzeriders were...what they were supposed to be. Not that he minded the way he was, usually, but this was different. "Oh, well, does it really matter this time? I mean, you're not Weyrwoman - um, yet? - so they wouldn't be Weyrleader, right?"
No, you are never ridiculous, though Ours clearly are! Pipith was enjoying himself immensely - he had the company of a proddy gold and he got to His flounder. Although he have felt a little bad for him. Only a little. I don't think Mine is sure what he wants to do. He will figure it out eventually. I hope. In the meantime, it is entertaining.

And there was a whole different set of stress to freak out over there! Narisa looked up at her friend, blinking as that realization dawned on her. Was this how Abigail felt whenever Brakiath had been about to Rise? Oh Faranth what if she was Weyrwoman? That... was even more intimidating. "That's probably a good thing." She muttered under her breath, running a hand nervously through her hair. And then just slumped in the chair she sat in.
"Set'al... will you relax?" She shot her friend a look. "Really. Just because Ceph is proddy doesn't mean I'm going to suddenly jump you on the bed." Sassy and full of humor. Something she didn't typically show. And was going to totally blame the Queen outside if someone brought it up.
Agreed, they definitely are! Cepheith giggled, happily thrumming as she curled her tail around Pipith's. I'm glad you do not find me ridiculous. She added sweetly. Hopefully. But you are right, it is highly entertaining to watch both of them stumble about in their awkward way!

Had she really just said that? Set'al stared, dumbfound. Did she really think that was why he was uncomfortable, or was she just joking? He could quite tell. "I- That's not-" he stammered, "That- It's just weird to talk about! I mean, you know Pipith is going to try, and..."
Ugh, could this be going any worse?
Oh, Yours did very well with that one, Pipith admired. Just listen to him! The bronze flicked his banded tail and twined it with Cepheith's. His day was going much better than his rider's, that was for sure.

There was unmistakeable draconic laughter that came from outside. Oh that one had really been quite sly of Hers! Cepheith's blue eyes glanced towards the hut, snickering before she moved to rest her head against Pipith. That was a good one! And here, I didn't even have to prod her for that!
Narisa spared a look towards the door - and the dragons that were on the other side - before returning her look to Set'al. Really? He needed to remind her of that? "Yeah. Pip and every other male brave enough." She muttered. Frankly, she was nervous about who all might participate, and stepping on any toes. The last thing Narisa wanted was the pissed off weyrmate of someone! Or a huffy lover. Shells!
"You think it's weird? Ha! Try trading places with me. Then we'll talk about weird." She teased, feeling herself relax a little. "Tell me, what would you do if you were me? And knew what was about to happen?" Did she really just ask him that? Why yes, yes she did. Which earned yet another round of laughter from Cepheith.
I am beginning to feel slightly bad for Yours She admitted to her wonderful Bronze companion.

"Trade? Shards, at least it's only once a turn or so! Try having a dragon that chases everything that Rises." Fine, if she was going to tease, then he could tease, too. Although it was true; this particular tendency of Pipith's was not Set'al's favorite. "What would I do? Lock my door and let my dragon choose who they wanted. It doesn't really matter who it is, not this time, so she might as well have her way. And if it turns out to be someone you like, you can always unlock your door, I guess. You know, if...if there is someone you like."
I'm not, Pipith said merrily, shifting his position slightly to better accomodate his resting companion. This is good for him. He gets too comfortable, sometimes.

Okay. He totally had her on that one. She glanced towards the dragons in question and back towards her friend. "Really? Everything that Rises?" Narisa asked, trying for a straight face. And failing. There was totally a smile there. "So that's what you do, huh?" Yep. She was going to tease him for as long as she could. It was... oddly comforting and relaxing being able to do so. Even with the particular... subject... they were discussing. But she did take what he said to heart.
"There's... a few people I'd unlock it for." She said slowly, picking her words. "L-Like you." It just... slipped right out before she could catch it or plan how to say it better. "I-I mean... if you wanted, um to. I'd not... say no." And she'd thought her cheeks were flaming before?! There was clear and very evident laughter in her mind. "I'd rather... h-have it be you, then someone else." Narisa admitted quickly before just... shutting her mouth. Sweet Faranth what... just... what?!
Cepheith's entire body was shaking in laughter as she pressed her head against Pipith. I cannot believe she said it! I hope Yours doesn't pass out.

"Uh, well, I don't...usually bother, but-" But he wasn't a goldrider, which meant he didn't have to worry about tossing arrogant wingleaders out of his weyr if he didn't lock his door. Regardless, he was just going to stop now before he dug himself into a deeper hole of painful awkwardness.
...but it was a pointless effort, because then she said- did she say that, or was he hearing things? Or worse, was she just playing around? No, that would be mean, and Narisa wasn't mean, but she couldn't possibly- not him! He was just Set'al, former poor excuse for a Runner and current poor excuse for a bronzerider, and she was a goldrider. And the next Weyrwoman, if whoever was deciding it had a shred of sense. More importantly, she was the woman he might but refused to let himself be in love with.
So he just sort of...stared. And blinked once or twice. That was about all he could do while he scrambled to think of something, anything to say. He failed pretty miserably.
"I- You- Really? You...mean that?" Definitely not the charming or romantic response, but uncertain and pathetically hopeful, afraid she might think better of what she'd said and take it back.
That is a distinct possiblity, Pipith observed with a snort of laughter. If His wasn't careful, this would soon devolve from comical to pitiful. He would have to intervene before that happened.

He didn't usually bother? So... he enjoyed the... uh, other half of a Flight? That just... didn't seem like the Set'al she knew. No, it was probably better to assume people just didn't bother much during a Green's Flight. As common as they were. Her situation was slightly different. Great. So it was either lock her door or accept whatever wingleader won? If it was even a wingleader!
She had a sudden image of a... certain Wingleader being tossed out by Kindra.
Oh shards and shells she did not want that to be her case!
And at the rate she was going of just letting words tumble out of her mouth, maybe she wouldn't have to worry about that. Shaff! What had possessed her to say that?! Not that it wasn't true or anything! And... well... she truly meant it. Faranth there may have been a little more to it then that, but there was no way in hell she was letting any of that fall from her lips! This situation was already awkward enough! No thanks to her.
Ceph! A little help, maybe?
I think you are doing just fine, mine! The Gold said unhelpfully, quite comfortable snuggled up to her favorite Bronze.
"Y-Yes... " Not quite as confident as it should have been. And apparently, she'd been wrong. There was a level of crimson beyond what her cheeks were at right now. Not at all helped by her dragons laughter. "I mean it." She tried again. Better. That was better. Could the ground just open up and swallow her now?
We may have to intervene shortly. Before they both collapse. Cepheith giggled.
