name roger payne. age 35. gender male. occupation blacksmith, guard(?) living in oldcastle.
height 5' 11" build muscular. eyes l-brown, r-blue. hair blonde, close-cropped. other beauty mark under right eye.
parents susan payne (53) x david payne (57) siblings amabel hobbes nee payne (26) other brother-in-law, baiard hobbes (27)
Roger's childhood was normal by all accounts, raised by middle-class parents in Palisade. He spent much of his time reading and playing pretend, and at nine years of age was blessed with a little sister to dote on. He was raised and trained to take over his father's smithing shop, but in his adolescence, witnessing the Palisade guards' good deeds drew him toward the profession of a soldier, especially considering a lack of war in his homeland. For this reason, he enlisted as soon as he was of-age and trained as a soldier, then mostly taking a post as a Palisade guard. His work and his family were his life, and there was no room for much else. Romantic twinges following puberty were mostly ignored, save a few spurned advances and fewer successful encounters.
In recent years, however, Roger had felt as if his life was lacking. His sister was married to a man that he had screened rather harshly, moved out and began to start her new life. Not only did Roger not have a spouse, he didn't even have someone to court. His job was at a stasis. Veterans rarely left their jobs as guards, and so his superiors left no room for advancement beyond award and recognition. Investigating stolen goods felt good... but wasn't there more to life? With the maturation of his constant companion, he felt a calling to start anew and turned his sights toward Oldcastle, a much smaller city with rural surroundings. He found an occupation then as a blacksmith, but also hires himself out as a hired hand, whether it be for muscle or general help, even the gentlest of tasks. His horizons have been broadening, as has his grin.
With the recent reports of wolves in the surrounding area, Roger feels a bit as if this calling was somewhat fated. Well-trained with a sword and various close combat arms, he can often be see guarding the city and its outskirts at night, dressed in a leather chest piece and graves.
For all he is an imposing figure, Roger has his gentle side. Physical activity and work are some of his favorite things, but he sets aside time to sit and have ale with friends. He has a soft spot for those in need, regardless of age or heritage, and is not beyond striking up small talk with a stranger in the hopes that his life will grow further. He strikes out to do good and to make impressions, as well as to raise his own joy in branching out into more social endeavors. While it cannot be said that he is particularly romantic or seeking out a lover, the stirrings sometimes return. Interest in himself has arisen, and acceptance of what he generally regards as an abnormal trait. He would rather enjoy a family, but believes that nothing can be rushed ahead of fate and work out well.

---- the guardian

name farthir. named for fantasy novels. stage buck. gender male.
personality He fancies himself something of a white night, protecting the citizenry from the evils of the world; from the smallest squirrel to the most beautiful Guardian, from the smallest child to the largest man. Life is to be beautiful and safe, and he comes to help in the name of truth and justice! Unfortunately for Farthir, some of his heady expectations of the world have grown from the fantastical novelsand folktales that his Chosen read to him as a young deer. On one hand, the grass is always vibrant and sparkling when the snow is not glittering and beautiful. On the other, reality rarely crosses with the world of knights and maidens in distress. Situations are easily misunderstood, and sometimes Farthir does more damage than good ( not that he is privy to this fact ). It does not help, either, that he is not the most graceful of bucks and is prone to stumbling, fumbling and otherwise embarrassing situations. His determination, however, is far beyond the scope of pride or reason.
other His antlers are filed down so he is less of a danger to himself and to others.
