What I want to do is draw all the hatchies as human kids, with their character design, personalities, and interpersonal relations taken into account.

I want the planning and execution to be as easy as possible so that there is no chance I'll get lazy and not do it razz

SO, what I am doing here is setting up a thread so that I can look at all the profiles and such and start designing.

Anime and stylized-ness will occur because I want to make sure that everything comes through. I will be working hard on it and, if I can, showing WIPs and such In the thread.
I'll link all WIPs here just for lovely aggregation.

Updates and links are going to be in the second post smile

I could also do them as dragons too, but kids are too cute and I need to practice them <3

        Name: Brantath
        Color: Brown

Appearance: Brantath is going to start out hopelessly doofy-looking. He's got a fat little body and stubby little wings and skinny little hindlegs and a too-long neck. And it doesn't help that he just looks kind of... fluffy. His color is more cream than brown, albeit with fuzzy patches of brown on his head, back, and wings. In short, he is not the kind of hatchling that you ooh and ahh over, he's the kind that people chuckle and coo over. And it makes him mad.

As he gets older, however, his coloring will change drastically: his markings will grow more dramatic and elegant, lighter patches on dark. And while he'll always have a fat little tummy, he'll grow into that long neck, and he'll learn to use those strong wings to fly forever. Brantath's not all that big, but he will give bronzes a run for their money in the stamina department, just because flying in formation comes so naturally to him. He's a natural at finding the spot in a wing formation where he can soar effortlessly on the wind off another dragon's wings, and he can do so for hours at a time without any apparent difficulty.

        Personality:
I try twice as hard and I'm half as liked,
But here they come again to jack my style

Hey! HEY! Brantath is talking to you! HONK, ********, LISTEN UP!

Brantath is a classic example of a lot of bark and not a lot of bite. While Sparveth is just a vicious bundle of hate for all living things, Brantath tries to put up a whole lot of swagger to hide the fact that he's just... not very dangerous. The brown is highly possessive of his rider and highly territorial - he's definitely not going to stand for other weyrlings pushing him around or getting up in his space. But the worst that he's realistically going to do is hiss and puff up his wings and chase you around for a while. He simply doesn't have the killer instinct to do more than bluff.

But bluffing? Brantath is good at bluffing. Much like his rider, Brantath will try to be all things to all people, but rather than being a social chameleon, Brantath wants to be seen. More specifically, he wants to be seen as a good dragon. The best dragon. The biggest, baddest, best brown there is. And Brantath quite frankly seems equally comfortable in the presence of any of his siblings. He can strut with Lophorinth, stand guard with Haliath, or challenge Atheth to a duel of sesquipedalian loquaciousness with equal fervor. (Ha! You thought Brantath was stupid, didn't you! Dead wrong!) He is - or at least wants to be - the Artful Dodger, cunning and tough and impossible to pin down.

He's highly adaptable and difficult to discourage: when Brantath encounters an obstacle, he lets it roll off him like water and then comes at it from a new angle, just as hard as before. His perseverance is one of his best qualities, and it will serve him and Lin quite well. Insults will be laughed off as if they are nothing. Attempts to get him to give up will likewise be laughed off.

Unlike some of his siblings, Brantath has no particular moral compass of his own. He is a force who could be guided with equal ease towards good or towards ill. While he means no genuine harm and certainly can't commit violence against humans, ideas like "personal property" don't necessarily mean a lot to him if Lin should choose to lead him in that direction. On the other hand, if she encourages him to become a guard, he will do so with equal enthusiasm, and he won't be half bad at it either.

Why me? Brantath's got a lot of swagger, but not a lot of purpose pinning him down. Like Lin, he is thick-skinned and resourceful, with a belligerent streak, but he lacks a core identity to drive him. Ultimately it is a choice that he will leave in her hands, but it is a choice that he will force her to consider. She won't be able to just go with the flow and blend into the crowd anymore with a dragon like Brantath around her... But no matter what direction she chooses to go, she'll have the best ally she could ask for backing her up.

        Wardens Weyr
        User Image

        Name: Poecileth
        Color: Green

Appearance: Poecileth is a round little thing, and that's something she's probably never going to grow out of. Though she's not particularly long for a green - and will grow up to right about the minimum length for her color at 20 feet, she's fat. It's not obesity, just extra padding that makes the little hatchling round, and will keep her round and sleek and well-fed-looking well into her adulthood. Her wings are small and rounded, giving her remarkable maneuverability and speed at takeoff, even in spite of the extra weight. She's built for quick bursts, though, not long-term flight. Don't expect her to keep up with Brantath any time soon.

At hatching, her color is more striking than many of her siblings. She's marked with deep green and white on her face, as well as faint bands on her wings. All appearances point to that high-contrast face staying as she grows up, no matter how her siblings might change.

Personality: Poecileth is a little mama. She's gentle, affectionate, sweet-natured, and in general committed to making sure that people are happy. This doesn't, however, mean that Poe is a pushover. She's silk over steel, a small, fluttery thing whose outward mannerisms and appearance belies a deep inner strength. She will go out of her way to make sure her rider and those important to her rider are cared-for, but don't expect her to put herself out there to be harmed. No, the dangerous aren't Poecileth's scene. She avoids conflict, for the most part. Fighting doesn't further her goals any, so she tries to stay out of it. Particularly since she knows how dangerous Warden's can be. She's fiercely protective of her rider, quick to remove her from bad situations and careful to avoid those she knows will frighten or otherwise harm her. Poe doesn't take chances when it comes to her bonded.

Her attentions naturally turn toward the weaker and downtrodden, and she has a strong sense of justice. She's not forward, and will likely always be the kind of voice that gets drowned out in a crowd, but that doesn't seem to bother Poecileth. Talking about things isn't as important to her as actually getting things done is. She's content to let the bigger, louder dragons argue about things. In the meantime, she'll be over here making a difference all on her own. She believes in the inherent goodness of others - not naively, though. Poe is quite aware of the dangers of the world. But if people would put away their prejudices and just try to coexist, the world would be a better place. It makes her sound a little kumbayah tree-hugger when she actually speaks, but that's not quite where Poe is coming from. She gives others the benefit of the doubt when she feels it is safe to do so, and is willing to put aside her own differences if working with someone will further her goals.

This leads her to be somewhat more lenient with prisoners than some other dragons might be inclined to be, but it also makes her an excellent ambassador for her species. She's tamer than many of her siblings, much more inclined to forgiveness than would be expected for a dragon who will grow up to be a guard at Warden's Weyr. That said, a threat to her rider means a solid wall of green twisted around Malta, and a very solid, very firm presence telling you that if you don't leave now you will have to go through Poecileth first, and if you don't, she'll call bigger dragons. She's not afraid to call her siblings if she needs them - or even other, even larger dragons. Poe is quite diplomatic, and will cultivate friendships that are both beneficial to her psychologically and physically. If she has a few big browns and bronzes on her side, it means she's safer - but if those boys are a danger to her or others, she's not interested in the slightest (sorry, Merceth).

Of her siblings, she'll no doubt be closet to Lasoth, whom she feels quite protective of, and probably Brantath, because he's big and a little gruff and having him on her side means she'll always have a big brother if she needs one. The same goes for Haliath, to whom Poe will always stick like glue. She won't get along particularly well with Sturnuth, but even her noisy sister will always be cared for in times of need.

Why me? Malta is too young and sweet to be in a place like Warden's. Poecileth was drawn to her immediately because she was the smallest, purest creature there, and Poecileth needed a rider that she could protect and invest herself in. Poecileth will offer the kindness and support that Malta needs - as well as put together a way to maintain the protection it will be necessary to have in a Weyrling class full of prisoners. Additionally, Poecileth is a dragon completely willing to cede her own needs for her rider - she will not Rise, for instance, until well past her own maturity. Not until Malta is emotionally ready.

        Name: Haliath
        Color: Green

Appearance: Haliath is neither the largest nor the smallest of the greens in her clutch, but profoundly average: average in length, average in bulk. This is not a bad thing. She is neither so tiny that she lacks stamina, nor so large that she lacks agility, but balances both solidly. She'll hatch a tubby, drab thing, of course, like most of her siblings, but as she grows she'll develop a lean and predatory build that will serve her well in the air. In particular she will be adept at two things: sudden dives, and flying in inclement weather. Even when her fellow dragons are grounded due to a sudden storm, Haliath will be happily vanishing into the thunderclouds and then dropping like a bolt of lightning.

Her color, upon first hatching, is curiously gray in overtone, with darker marks on her chest and over her eyes, and dapples on her back and hindquarters. As she grows, however, her markings will change and gain further contrast: by the time she is grown she will be a truly elegant creature of near-white pearly green overlaid with near-black forest green, and almost no shades in the middle range. The one thing that will never become dignified is her voice. There is something wrong with Haliath's bugle... her most ferocious attempts just come out as a fierce but high-pitched EEP. EEP. EEP EEP EEP EEPEEPEEPEEP!

        Personality:
I'm ashamed that I don't have a heart you can break
I'm just action, and at other times reaction

Haliath is, in the simplest of terms, a paladin. There is right in the world, and there is wrong. There is black and there is white. As for shades of grey... Haliath is neither stupid nor blind, and she will acknowledge that they exist when they are presented to her. However, they will always cause her some degree of confusion and irritation. Haliath likes things to be simple, straightforward, and logical: in the conflict of good versus evil, it is clear who is on which side. Or at least it ought to be clear. She dislikes "grey areas" not because she is quick to damn someone for one mistake, but because they turn moral questions that ought to be simple into moral quandaries.

Quite the opposite, in fact, Haliath is likely to be strongly in favor of rehabilitation for as many prisoners as possible. She will openly encourage Hiemal to follow a path towards redemption and freedom, and she will encourage him to speak to other nonviolent prisoners as well. Perhaps if they too can Impress dragons, it will help make their lives better. Like her rider, Haliath favors logic over emotion, but she tempers it with compassion: she can see clearly that some prisoners are at Warden's not because they are inherently evil, but because they come from miserable and desperate environments. Good things cannot grow where the light does not touch, after all.

There is a certain sternness, an aloof dignity about her bearing and mien. Haliath is not a cuddly dragon. She does not beg for eyeridge rubs, she does not prance or croon or brood over eggs. She is a guardian, not a mother. Should someone threaten her rider, Hiemal would find her capable of a terrible, cold anger that will drive her right to the edge of what dragons are capable. (It is, perhaps, fortunate for Haliath's moral code that she is physically incapable of harming a human. She will rarely have to deal with the fallout of knowing her wrath got the best of her.) But for the most part she is calm and composed, saving her quiet affection for private moments with her rider. Even when she is old enough for Flights she will not be flirty in the slightest, more prone to being stiffly awkward and standoffish with males who court her.

If Haliath has a real fault, it is a certain tendency to take herself very seriously and not see the inherent humor in situations. (She is, for instance, likely to think that Hiemal's notes to the Warden are an excellent idea, and she will inquire with great sincerity as to why they have not been answered yet.) She is also astoundingly poor at subterfuge of any kind. Not only will she not be very good at lying, but if someone asks her to participate in anything underhanded, she will promptly grow quite indignant and probably ruin the whole thing for everyone else, too.

Why me? Hiemal needs unconditional love in his life, but not overbearing love. Haliath is not a needy or particularly demanding dragon. She sought out someone with whom she could have an equal relationship of give and take. In return for his care and attention, she will provide Hiemal with quiet support and someone with whom he can securely share the feelings he tries to hide; Haliath will try to help him sort through them in a sensible way without repressing or judging. At the same time, the green was particularly seeking a nonviolent prisoner with the potential to be patiently guided onto a better path, and she thinks she's found that in Hiemal.

        Lasoth
        User Image

        Name: Lasoth
        Color: Opal

Appearance: Right, so, like Sturnuth, Lasoth isn't a gold. Unlike her brash older sibling, Lasoth certainly doesn't have the coloring to lead others to think so. In truth, she comes out of the shell colored like a calico feline. The top of her body is covered with oranges and yellows, down the length of her tail. A black spot mottles at the side of her left wing, purples twinkling in it when light hits it a certain way - same with the underside of her wings near to the tip. The underside of her body looks white... at first. Then you see the green-blue-purples on her hide along with the white-gray.

And, yes there is quite the sheen just like any other metallic. Unlike the noble golds and bronzes, Losath is not some sleek and beautiful creature. She has a wide bottom that tapers up like a pear to a skinny neck and an even smaller head. This will even out some as she gets older to make her less like a dinosaur and more like a dragon but she will never loose that pear shape. Lasoth will top out around the size of a very large blue and her wings are small for her body and rounded; Lasoth is not build for speed or strength like some of her siblings, but just to be in the air. Her legs will become less like a certain King of the Dinosaurs as she matures, lengthening to be long and slim, her claws large and her talons razor sharp.

        Personality:
I like to keep my issues drawn
It's always darkest before the dawn

On the outside, Losath is a confident and nurturing dragon. She wants to care for everything and everyone (sort of). She dotes on eggs and little animals (before she eats them). Her words are sweet and gentle, her tone constantly kind. A hurtful word from her is rare enough to be noticed, her general demeanor one of a loving mother. In truth, she wants to be the perfect darling thing she presents to the world and full of that confident comfort she offers everyone else; public opinion means everything to Losath outside of her riders love. She needs others to think she is as kind as she portrays. She is by no means a cruel dragon, her words genuine but she is not nearly as confident as she shows. The deep seeded desire hides her own insecurities, anger from others only making it sting all the more. Not many people can be as eagerly sincere as she tries to show and she knows this. It's hard to be as gentle as you want to be when in a place full of criminals and hate; sometimes even the gentle Opal wants to say something unkind when someone else is being rude. It's not that easy for her to see past the grime day in and day out, and she seeks comfort in others to know that there are good people in the world - that she can be one of them too. Comfort from her rider and others will keep her from becoming disenchanted with the world around her.

If completely cornered with no way out, Lasoth will fight. She abhors violence, she doesn't want to be one of them, but down to the wire, she can be a vicious fighter. Looking awkward just means people underestimate her... which is good, most of the time. She is small and quiet and detests ichor/blood. It is her hope every day that she doesn't need to be grumpy, let alone hurting someone.

Losath takes the words to heart; actions only cement things. When things finally build up too much or she is insulted just one line too far and takes it as truth, she puts up that kind beaming wall only to crumble when in private with her rider. Things are untrue only when she's assured otherwise and, to her, Leevi knows best - that's why she chose him. One of the reasons, at any rate. It's because of this she is cautious in her choices on which dragons or humans to actually trust beyond day to day activities. She steers clear from the very aggressive and loud and angry and tries to drown herself in the kind and bright. Lasoth is quite fond of Poecileth (dare we say favorite) and only wants to take care of Serinuth (whether or not the green wants to be crooned at). Lasoth is very much a Therapy Dragon for the hurt humans in need of comfort, willing to talk to them if Leevi allows, though keeping her from those serial killers is probably best.

As for those angry souls, Lasoth... well, she tries to stay away. It's difficult with a rider like Leevi to be completely distant from those willing to hurt another. That isn't a problem, really, as the Opal is more than willing to throw herself in front of a human, wher, or dragon in order to keep them from hurting Hers. It's not that everyone is a possible threat, it's just that she doesn't wat him to be completely locked away with one of them. Like Jiru. She has not been fond of the violent and angry even when in the shell and the distaste grows only larger the older she gets. They just don't have a place in her world - violent criminals terrify her in the dark ways that make her very still and very gentle until she can get away. Lasoth is very aware that this is a weakness, a crack in what should be a shiny hide, and she dislikes that about herself.

Lasoth is quite aware she was supposed to be a gold dragon. Her shell glittered, her biological mother had a gold hide, and yet... Nothing from her. The lack of gold doesn't bother her overmuch; yes, people expected one but she has all sorts of colors on her! Isn't she sparkly? Decorative? ...she's just as good as a gold!

        (Isn't she, Leevi?)

Why me? Leevi keeps the world away. To be fair, he keeps the cruelty of the outside at bay. He is the beam of sunshine in her life, a constant smile and warm word that can make all of her hurts disappear. In Leevi, Lasoth finds peace and the sort of kindness she wishes the world could have as a whole. His optimism in everyone and his bright mind fill the little opal with joy. She knows his work is important, will tell him so, and she will do her best to be that return ray of happy in his life in order for him to continue with that work. With Lasoth, Leevi has constant support, someone that wants to help in his work when she can, a helpful voice. She will never do anything to hurt his self esteem - its against her very nature to do anything but try to keep him up beat. Lasoth will cuddle him when he needs and he will hopefully return the favor.

        Pavoth

        User Image

        Name razz avoth
        Color: Blue

Appearance: He's decorative for a bland little hatchling! He has feather patterns in light and dark blue on his wings, kohl-esque markings on his eyes and stripes along his legs and back. The rest of him varies from an almost purple color to a drab gray blue. Unappealing, but there.

He is a daity little creature. He will grow to be long and lean with graceful lines and deliate bone structure. His wings are wider than normal and he's a strong flier, teeth extra sharp and limbs as long as the rest of them.

        Personality:

Despite the first impression on the Sands, Pavoth is not a cowardly dragon. He is, in fact, quite a brave little blue that takes his place in life very seriously. He is a guard, his rider is a guard, their life is here at Warden's until it takes them elsewhere. He would face down an army of demons if it meant protecting her! Just - that first time, he was very tiny and alone, there was screaming. Most other times he is more than ready to go out and face the world, look at it by angles and numbers and attack as they see fit. It's a Thing and he likes to bite. Peacocks are nippy creatures. Pavoth is no exception.

He has the ability to go with the flow, a magical thing when compared to his rider. Pavoth will agree to almost anything once it makes sense, the facts laid out bare. If someone is against what he agrees to do, he asks why, and if that makes sense (or his rider is with the new idea), he will change his stance. He an exceptional wingrider for this reason; changing rotations and flight patterns comes naturally to him with little to no argument unless, again, his rider is against the situation. There is no reason for him to argue and belittle; let's leave that up to the humans and be good dragons. As such, hidebound stereotypes don't much irritate him, the blue finding more questions in these new colors more than anything. So what if he is small and blue colored? Others are large and gold colored. He can fly faster, be more, and there are blue Secondary Wardens. If they stay at the prison forever, they could be one too - if his rider wants.

Like most dragons, Pavoth treasures his rider. They are complimentary instead of clashing, him doing his best to match their weaknesses and uphold their strengths. He is not a dragon of pretty words and compliments - his assistance comes without commentary. Actions speak louder than words and leave little room for betrayal. He sees others through a cautious eye, rarely trusting more than a handful at any given time. Humans, he did not pick them for a reason. Other dragons are connected to those humans, the ones he did not choose. Whers, though... whers are okay. A bit simple but better than most, an not limited as dragons can be.

As for a sense of humor, Pavoth is dry. He has plenty of words at his disposal and the intelligence to use them at any given time. Should he want to, the boy could lash lines into a persons ego with his tongue. He keeps it mostly contained to dry commentary, sometimes a stream of it should the situation call. He is not a physically aggressive dragon outside of his duties as a guard, even though he is fond of biting. There are usually better ways to solve problems. Mostly.

He's not fond of Chasing. Oh, if he fancies a certain lady (or lad) dragon, he might liftoff, but his rider doesn't need to fret over constant Flightlust. Like his friendship, Pavoth is cautious with his feelings.

Why me? Meera is a fierce woman with her own strict convictions. It attracted the somewhat more easy going Pavoth; she is wood to bhis water. He knows she doesn't quite understand the importance and depth of dragonbonds at first but that's okay, he's more than willing to show her he's good at what he does. They share a like sense of humor and Meera will hopefully find the same amusement in his as he does her. And the kicker: she has a LAMB. Pavoth will not eat a lamb or sheep for as long as he lives, if only for Lucky.

        Name: Zenaith
        Color: Yellow

Appearance: Zenaith isn't pretty, at first. She's pale yellow, marked with tawny golden-tan, nothing particularly eye-catching. But as she gets older, this will lighten to dusky gold, with striking near-black markings on her wings. Her eyes are large and solemn, frequently whirling blues and greens. This is a quality she will maintain for the rest of her life.

Large for her size at thirty-six feet, she's graceful in a way that many of her clutch are not. As a little one, she's all legs an eyes in a gawky head, but the older she gets, the more she will fill out. She's going to be smooth lines and a narrow muzzle, slender in the head and neck and filled in through the stomach and hindquarters. Her wings are broad, suited to stamina but not to distance, and she's quite maneuverable for her size. Her tail is uniquely long and fine, tapering to delicate, whiplike points.

        Personality:
Then I heard your voice as clear as day,
And you told me I should concentrate

Zenaith is a quiet dragon. Not timid, though. Quiet. There is a difference, and she would be glad to explain it to anyone who might ask. Zenaith doesn't shout, doesn't fuss, doesn't quail at the back of the group. Rather, she allows the group to happen. She moves through it like water, lets it part around her. Zenaith is one of those with the remarkable ability to fade into the background, unless she wants to be noticed. It's not because she's shy - Zenaith comports herself with quiet confidence - understanding that she's large and strange and uniquely-talented. It's simply that she rarely sees the point in rocking the boat or making a scene. That's for those who need validation - like Sturnuth and Haemath - or those who have some political agenda. Zenaith is neither.

She's a healer's dragon, through and through. Alliances and politics and conflict, all of that matters to her only as much as it indicates what kind of work she'll need to be doing in the future. Zenaith prefers to fix people, not to start a fuss, and offers quiet, nonjudgmental aid to anyone, rider in tow. She's a firm believer that you ought to be the change you want to see in the world, and this is why everyone is met calmly with a steady eye and welcoming message. Ralvyn will be gently encouraged to realize his full potential as a healer, and it's not a path she has any interest in him straying from. After all, this is the best way to fix Pern. Compassion heals as much as medicine does.

She's not stupid, though. Zenaith can hold her own if she needs to, though her idea of conflict is to puff herself up and hiss and bluff until people go away. She's hopeless when it comes to physical contact, more likely to throw up her wings and go running to another dragon that can help her. But she'll snap and threaten when she thinks her bluff won't be called. Usually, all people need is a quiet reminder of who's providing their care, and they'll calm right down. After all, it's not usually worth bleeding to death or dying of infection, just to get back at the healer.

While in general she tries to withhold judgment, her own psyche is quite delicate. Zenaith tries, as a healer, to consider herself apart from the crowd. She sometimes finds it difficult to relate to other dragons in a non-healer way, and as a mutated color, she's prone to self-ostracizing. Her interest in humans is largely-intellectual and based around Ralvyn's: they're odd little creatures with a tendency to get themselves hurt, so she wants to help them. Dragonkin, for the most part, is the same. Zenaith's only real attachment is to a select few, ones she knows she can trust. Likely, she will choose one of her siblings (probably a quieter one) to confide in, and other attachments will be in adult dragons, to whom she will be drawn from a very young age.

Why me? Ralvyn needed a comforter, support - the kind of dragon who will be able to encourage him and keep him safe and protect him from the physical and emotional harm that Warden's Weyr might offer him. Zenaith is not a coddler, or a motherly type. But she is stoic support, and she will be Ralvyn's anchor, no matter what the world has to offer. If he needs a shoulder to cry on, she will be that. If he needs protection from bullies or one of her louder siblings, she can be that. If he ever fancies someone, she would be glad to chase their dragon for him. She is his sister, his best friend, his wingman, and his classmate.

        Name: Irath
        Color: Gray

Appearance: He is round as a hatchling but will smooth out to be rather bullet shaped as an adult. He'll only be the size of a medium green but solid, no extra fat, and with short, sturdy legs. There's not much to differentiate from his head to his shoulders, his neck being one thick cord of muscle.

When young, his back and wings are a steel gray, covering his face in a mask. There are stripes of a pinker gray on his chest and legs with a background of a smokier color. Freckles dots his legs, stomach, and chin as well. He's a rather decorative little birdlet, all things considered.

        Personality:
When the world gets rough, when times get hard
I will protect you, I will be your body guard

It's really, really obvious on first meeting Irath that he is a social bird. He may not seek out huge groups of people in order to squish up to them like cattle in a pressure chamber, that'd just be rude. What the little gray does is talk. A lot. Even when he isn't speaking mentally to drags, whers, and Josclin, he enjoys making noise outloud. His vocal range is much more extensive than a certain siblings, going from squeaks to chirps to clicks all the way up to loud bugles that perhaps should not really fit in his tiny frame.

He doesn't even need to be loud about it or showy; Irath isn't about being the super best ever he just really really likes to talk. And be near people. He isn't going to be one of those dragons content with being separated from his rider for long periods of time, especially if it leaves him alone on the dragon-couch somewhere. That's unacceptable and just full of silliness. He knows humans need their space sometimes and that's okay, really, he doesn't need all their attention all the time (though it'd be nice). This is how he may end up in a cuddle pile with other dragons or talking off someones mind until his rider is ready to give him attention again. He likes attention to go hand in hand with his hugs and conversation.

Underneath the talking and the frolicking, Irath is honestly smart. He has to be, if he's going to survive in the brain he's latched on to. He can't read like some dragons - let's leave that to the humans, shall we? - but he's quite fond of patterns and numbers. He can see how numbers add up and coil together, pick out the Waldo's and oddities in two pictures. If you need to figure out how to get some puzzles together, Irath is your man. He could rule the world of tetris and being small means he can squeeze himself into tight places, squirm into hidden places of the Weyr; if put up to it, Irath could be a fabulous map maker. He'll be ace at spotting things through the trees and an excellent tracker.

He can be clever and witty as well, possessing more of a social grace than his rider could ever hope to have. Not only does he enjoy being connected to other people but Irath is good at it. He can chat up even the grumpiest of person even though humans lacking eyes that hint their moods confuse him. He's a wonder with flattery and seems to mean every. Single. Word. Irath likes to see the best in people or at least he enjoys seeing some sort of positive things in them. Sure, M'onk is a total a*****e but he has very clean fingernails! Oh, Arkady? He hacksawed a woman but at least his smile is nice. Having something good doesn't make a person good and he knows this, at least. It keeps him from being heartbreakingly naive. No matter! He will tell M'onk about those clean fingernails and that Ark has a lovely smile, that's all well and good, just as he will make sure his rider knows all of their positive points as well.

Irath loves to play up his riders personality positives. Self esteem is awesome. He's also aware that his rider could have some not-as-awesome points as well. That's okay. Even those can be positive things. Every flaw he sees in the surface of his rider can be prettied up and made wonderful. When he points out that his rider is being completely socially graceless, he does so in his cheerful tone and downplays the fact that it's a negative. His rider is everything and even those bad points make him wonderful. Because he loves him in the most heterosexual way.

Why me? Joscelin makes the whole thing so very interesting; he is a brain in archives that is cut off from the world. That is awesome in Irath's opinion. The gray is aware that they don't seem the most likely of pairings but that's okay - they can form new adventures and see different things to show each other rather than the same stuff over and over. He is smart enough to keep up with Joscelin's mind and in a different way so he can offer up puzzles as well. Joscelin has an interesting way of going about life and, let's be honest, could probably use a smoothing agent in his life to make sure he doesn't go around insulting the wrong people (again). He'll provide Joscelin with unending support and try to make him shape his less appealing qualities into something that makes him glitter with awesome.

        Name: Serinuth
        Color: Green

Appearance: Serinuth was positioned somewhat awkwardly in her egg (possibly accounting for the claustrophobia) and will hatch with an odd hopping gait and crumpled wings. These will naturally mend in time, provided she is given adequate exercise and room to stretch. Still, while she is actually a bit on the larger end for a green, her wings are fairly short and small for her size. These don't impede her in flight - on the contrary, she is excellent at tight maneuvers and has the agility of a much smaller green, but she will need to flap her wings much more frequently, making gliding difficult and stamina a problem. She is much more suited to quick, fluttering, darting flights than to the long haul.

Serinuth will start off a dark olive green with markings of yellowy lime green on her stomach, but as she grows that patch of lime will spread until it is her dominant color. In time, she will switch nearly entirely: going from olive green marked with lime to lime marked with olive.

        Personality:
I got shadows snapping at my tail who say I'm no damn good
But that's just halfway through, all that I'm good for is you

To say that Serinuth has self-esteem issues would be approximately on par with saying that Warden M'onk has issues with power tripping. It would appear that neurosis is more or less the canary's default state of being. She'll be practically apologizing for herself straight out of the shell - oh dear, she knows that her sire was a blue and her egg was curiously golden but not particularly metallic, and she hopes you weren't expecting something bigger or shinier than her, oh no...

It is probable that these issues will plague her right through weyrling training. Even when she's technically old enough and big enough to fly, she'll be nervous that she'll mess up. The first time she chews firestone, she'll need to triple- and quadruple-check that no one is in her way, because what if she accidentally flamed them? Everything about her is anxious and fluttery and full of nervous energy, even the way she hops uneasily from forefoot to forefoot when she's trying to make a decision. And... oh Faranth, don't try to get her into any enclosed spaces. She likes the wallows at Warden's because they're under an open sky, but Serinuth is severely claustrophobic and liable to panic in any area that's too small for her to stretch her wings in.

What balances this fear, however, is her kindness and sincerity. Serinuth is nothing if not eager to please - especially towards her rider, but towards others as well. There isn't a cruel or petty bone in Serinuth's body. She's a bit wary of humans other than her rider - she's very much a one-woman dragon, and Serinuth doesn't much like being handled, especially by people other than Saain - but she will warm up readily to anyone who treats her with gentleness and respect. It is highly unlikely that she'll be an effective guard, but if Saain can get her to settle a little as she matures, she could make an excellent healer's dragon.

The one time when Serinuth is really quite forward is during Flights. She will be very specific and quite firm with her demands: she will only be caught by a male who serenades her. Serinuth has a sweet, warbling, beautiful voice which she will show off whenever she is asked. And when it comes time for her to Fly, she expects to hear some bugles and croons in response, gentlemen!

Why me? Saain is a lost soul in many ways: she's lost her son, her freedom, and her purpose. Serinuth will give her something to focus on outside of the past, a fragile young creature who needs her care and her love. And Saain's gentleness and forgiving spirit will help Serinuth overcome some of her insecurities and be more comfortable with herself. They are kindred spirits in some ways, although Saain will always be the calmer of the pair. But Serinuth might just help Saain find her freedom.

        Name: Vociferoth
        Color: Gray

Appearance: Vociferoth is small. He's so small. Remember Ruth? Yeah, that small. Even at full growth, he will be only a bit taller than a draft horse at the shoulder. He will make up for it by being leanly built: wiry but strong, he will have no difficulty carrying his rider, although additional passengers may strain even his strength. And speed? Speed, Vociferoth possesses in spades. He will fly easy circles around his larger brethren without even trying.

Unlike some of his siblings, who will get brighter and more vividly marked as they get older, Vociferoth is more or less going to stay drab and dull. He's a gray. He's going to stay gray. What were you expecting, neon gray?

        Personality:
Screaming in the dark, I howl when we're apart
drag my teeth across your chest to taste your beating heart

Despite the dramatic circumstances of his hatching, Vociferoth is a dragon with the capacity to be surprisingly subtle or impossible to ignore as the situation demands. Much like his bird, really: the screaming piha is a drab little gray thing that blends into the jungle perfectly when predators are close, but has one of the loudest songs in the rainforest to attract mates and companions. He would prefer to blend himself neatly into the background among his fellow siblings, letting the other mutant colors (the pink, the yellows, the opal) bear the brunt of the Warden's wrath. He doesn't have a strong sense of justice driving him like Haliath, or the urge to be seen and admired like Lophorinth. Vociferoth looks out for Number One - and as far as he's concerned, since he dies if his rider dies, Blyte counts as Number One.

That said, Vociferoth is not the quiet type. He will keep up a near-constant commentary to his rider; Blyte should be infinitely grateful that mindspeech is private, Warden's doesn't boast any HADs, and some of Vociferoth's more colorful remarks will thus never be shared with the public at large. Of course, he can happily weaponize that voice of his whenever Blyte asks him to - and it can easily be either a subtle knife or a blunt hammer. Whether it's insinuating insults or just plain screaming, Vociferoth can generally win an argument solely by virtue of being the one who will not shut up until he gets what he's after.

Blyte can be easy to manipulate at times. Vociferoth isn't. He's sharp as a tack, this gray, and naturally suspicious of the motives of others. In fact, if he deems it necessary to protect his rider, he's not above pulling a few puppet strings and engineering a situation to make Blyte see that someone he trusts is just using him. It's a hard truth, but it's the truth. This is a prison. Sometimes people aren't looking out for your best interests... but Vociferoth always is.

The main obstacle to his success? Vociferoth isn't in very good control of his emotions. Much like Blyte, Vociferoth is prone to lashing out at anyone near him when he loses his temper... but unfortunately, he has a much shorter fuse than his rider. He's got an awful lot of small-dog syndrome to work through and sometimes he just acts without thinking. He will want to remain close to his rider whenever possible, and is likely to become impossible to handle if he is separated from Blyte for any lengthy period of time. To paraphrase an old saying, when he's good, he's very good, but when he's bad, he's a danger to everyone in the immediate vicinity.

Fear in particular will be an issue for him. Vociferoth is very nearly fearless; his panic upon first hatching out of the shell will be one of the rare few times in his life. (And even then, consider the situation - a newborn infant confronted with a mass of chaos and death and a threat on his own life. That is the level of trauma it takes to shake Voci.) When he does get overwhelmed, he doesn't deal with it well. His fight or flight instinct is very powerful, and when he can neither attack nor flee, he will just start to break down.

Why me? Vociferoth is... not an easy dragon. He's really, really not. He needs a rider who has Blyte's staunch loyalty, someone who will stick by him even when he's at his most difficult. He will never actively try to make Blyte's life harder, but given the delicate situation of the prisoner weyrlings, and the fine line that they will have to walk, it's inevitable that he's going to get in some trouble - and he needs someone who will stand by him and help him out when that happens. In return, he will always remember somewhere deep down inside of him that Blyte saved his life, and he will faithfully give his all for his rider.

        Name: Atheth
        Color: Green

Appearance: Much like her inspiration, Atheth is small and fluffy. She is the shorter end of her color with rather gigantic wings, all things considered. They provide amazing agility and the ability to be nearly silent when in flight, a handy thing if one is stalking some escaped prisoners. She doesn't carry much fat on her but muscle, giving her a rounded appearance instead of blocky or muscle bound body builder sort of look. She has a short, boxy face and her head knobs are shorter than average for her species. Atheth's eyes are larger than most other dragons and they're as round as her body to give her a constantly owlish expression of surprise or, when her head is tilted correctly, the look of intense and immediate doom.

As a hatchling, Atheth is an ugly little thing of snot colored green. There are spots of darker and lighter green along the majority of her body, along with wisps of lighter green near the crown of her face. There is no real indication of what she'll grow up to look like but for the reason, she is just a jumble of wonky greens. She seriously doesn't care about this.

        Personality:
Three times as many glorious gifts shall be yours on account of the king's arrogance.
        But refrain, and obey me.

As long as everyone realizes she is the most intelligent in the room, everything is okay. Her arrogance isn't entirely unfounded and that is perhaps the worst part of it. Atheth is a horribly smart dragon, defying color stereotypes by being the last flirtatious green ever and possessing an impressive memory for a dragon. She devours information, is quite good at concentrating, and uses big words to sound worldly and well educated. She looks down her muzzle at anyone that doesn't and is, in her eyes, the lesser of the two. It's a matter of pride to Atheth. Ones back should always be back and chin high; don't slouch like a hussy.

One of her better traits is that she has no problem in changing her mind. If presented with a sound and reasonable argument, she is logical enough o not fight facts. Facts are just that for a reason. As long as she can't counter it with an argument of her own, just as logical and well researched, Atheth is content to change her mind as often as required. If someone argues without solid proof, she sticks to her own guns. Escaping her acidic words (when she is winning the battle) and large vocabulary can be difficult; to do so is considered a talent. It's really up to her rider to keep her from going completely batshit when it comes to dealing with people who are stuck in hidebound tradition al thinking and see her as 'just a green'.

Oh, yes, Atheth is very much for color equality. It isn't just because she's at the bottom of the totem pole, so to speak, but because she is more intelligent than a good deal of her siblings and not to mention the other dragons not fortunate to be sired by her father and clutched by her mother. Atheth consideres herself to be of a superiour stock due to her particular upbringing and birth. Even if she is one of thirteen, she is still special, and that means her hide has absolutely no bearing on the fact she is good at logic puzzles and figuring out how it was the prisoner managed to shank the guard. Your tricks can't stand up for her brain and if a larger dragon attempts to boss her around, Atheth will buck and kick like no ones business, using her words first and should that fail, her claws and teeth. Violence is uncouth and unseemly for a lady of her intellectual means but that doesn't mean she's going to refuse to use them when the time calls for it.

Atheth is not a loyal dragon. That should really be a redeeming quality, shouldn't it, being loyal? Atheth sees it as a weakness and not something dragons should really have. Hey can't hurt people but people can hurt them, are allowed to even, if it means saving a human life. Sure, their riders may complain but that doesn't mean they aren't allowed to in the more dire of circumstances. She knows that V'tyai has been ordered to cripple any dragon that misbehaves and believes that it is incrrect; her loyalty is not the the Weyr, not to the set way of things but rather her rider. Her rider is the ultimate authority, the one that Atheth turns to when the powers of deduction have failed her. She loves them with all of her little snappish hearts. She picked them for very good reasons and,a ter all, shouldn't that be enough? She thinks that it should be. If given an order she does not approve of, her rider will be the one to make the decision. This could be a very bad thing should her rider take a turn for the worse.

When it comes to Flights... Atheth tries to suppress her own desire to Rise until the very last moment. She sees it as a waste of her time. She doesn't like to waste time. Even when she decides (or is forced to, due to that damned biological thing – Thanks, Kitti) to Rise, she will call out to a select few males to Chase. Any invaders will be mauled. Badly.

Why me? On the surface people may look at them and make the more obvious of connection of fierce small woman on a fierce small green. That's all well and good and bully for them, putting the most basic of ties together. Atheth is tough like Jaykkial and just as protective of her status. Jaykkial is a determined young woman that had rough patches in her life and her own demons to overcome. Atheth can appreciate that. She is a young dragon who knows just how to get Jaykkial back on the right path of not becoming a borderline alcoholic. Again. Atheth is They could be so much more than what they are and with Atheth on her side, ready and willing to launch herself at a face at Jaykkial's command... Perhaps that will give her devotion to that craft she always wanted: Dragonriding.

And, of course, they can both be cuddly lovely muffins when no one is looking.

        Name: Lophorinth
        Color: Blue

Appearance: Lophorinth's...a bit funny-looking, even for a baby dragon. His wings are enormous, oversized and ungainly, and his tail is long and thick. His legs are long - particularly his forelegs, giving him remarkable agility on the ground for a dragon. They will always be that way. He'll grow into the wings, but the tail is always going to be a bit long, and he's always going to have a tendency to thump things with it. As he grows, he'll more or less even out into a lean, broad-chested dragon, though his wings will always be quite large. Or maybe it's just that Loph is small - twenty-five feet - and the wings would look better on a bigger blue. They don't offer any particular talent, though, as Lophorinth tends to be suited to short, quick flights from place to place. He's just more comfortable on the ground, simple as that.

As a baby, Lophorinth isn't particularly exciting to look at. Splotched in dark blue, grey-blue, and pale periwinkle, he more or less looks like someone slapped paint on him with no particular regard for how it would turn out. Luckily, it's not going to stay like that. Loph is going to be gorgeous when he grows up, hide darkening to midnight-blue save for a swathe of vibrant turquoise across his chest.

        Personality:
        Heeeeeeeeeeeeey sexy ladies!

Loph is...a little dragon with a big personality. He's loud, he's proud, and he's totally ready to get into as much trouble as physically possible. All the time. It's not malicious like some of his other siblings, though. Loph doesn't start fights or mischief, and he's not the kind of person going out playing pranks. His kind of trouble is more the "Oh, Faranth, where have you been...and how are you covered in paint? We don't even have paint at the Weyr" type. The kind that rarely makes sense but is always entertaining. The kind that gets him attention.

Lophorinth loves attention. He loves being looked at. This little blue has a swagger in his step to rival a bronze, and he's always ready for some new and interesting way to get all eyes on him. Loph either doesn't know that Warden's is a prison Weyr, or he just doesn't care. (The latter would be more accurate, since if Loph didn't realize he was in a prison, he couldn't script elaborate prison choreography in his spare time.) He sees the world as his playground, and he wants to share this view with his rider. The fact that Luka's a prisoner doesn't seem to bother him at all. Rather, it's mildly interesting. The yellow makes her stand out, and Loph loves his rider standing out as much as he loves standing out. Here is his rider, everyone! Look at her! Isn't she awesome?

That's what Lophorinth thinks about most females. They're awesome. Human, dragon, wher...doesn't matter. Loph loves the ladies, and he wants all of them to love him, too. He's a shameless flirt, and quick to puff himself up and show off to try and catch a pretty female's attention. It might be in Luka's best interest never to tell him that his sire was blue - unless she wants him chasing the new Weyrwoman's dragon when she rises. And Loph would try, too. He'll try with every female dragon. But he's of the mind that it's not just the Flight where you have to impress them. No, they have to know who you are way before they rise. Which is why he will undoubtedly try to woo the ladies with his sweet dance moves. That's right. Loph dances. Admittedly, he dances badly, but he still does it. Lots of flailing wings and rhythmic tail slapping and generally getting up in ladies' faces. It doesn't earn him many admirers. He's convinced that someday, eventually, it will.

He views other male dragons as rivals. Luckily, Loph isn't really the fighting type. Instead, he's the "puff up and swagger and show off my sweet dance moves for the ladies" type. Most of his rivalry is good-natured, and it helps that he's small enough that most other males can sit on him if he gets too annoying. There's not much that can dissuade Loph from chatting someone up, though. He's a genuinely friendly dragon. Dragons, people, even prisoners - he's totally interested in everything everyone has to say, and he's the sort of dragon who's always going to have friends in unlikely places. Unfortunately, he doesn't really have a filter. It'll be up to Luka to keep him in check and make sure he's not chatting up the Unstable block while she's not looking. Because Loph has a lot of things, but common sense? Reeeeeeeeeally not one of them.

When it comes to his siblings, Loph likes everyone. Even the grumpy ones. Even Sturnuth, though he wishes she would calm down a little bit. Not everyone has to be so intense all the time, right? He'll hang out with Cyanath and Lasoth equally, talk up Serinuth, and be sweet bros with Haemath and Brantath - when he's not trying to outswagger them for the ladies. And most of them will be pretty all right with him, too - even if he annoys them sometimes. It's hard to hate someone who so genuinely wants to try.

Why me? Well, first and foremost, Lophorinth could only have Impressed a lady. A beautiful lady - as he will always reassure Luka she is. But it's more than just that Luka was female. In many ways, they're twins: vanity is a major factor, but so is that generally easygoing nature, the friendliness, the desire to flirt. They're not complementary opposites. Rather, they're more of the same, though Lophorinth isn't quite as opportunistic as Luka - and he's certainly not carrying the same emotional baggage. He'll question some of her darker side, but bolster her friendly and affectionate qualities.

        Name: Haemath
        Color: Pink

Appearance: He looks like someone vomited fairy dust and cotton candy after a long night of binge drinking bad beer. Right out of the shell, Haemath is nothing more than a slip of worn pink with darker tips to his wings and lighter around the muzzle. Anything else is lacking.

His size as a hatchling seems to indicate the boy will grow to be around the size of a bronze but seeing as how he is the first of his kind it's all up in the air. Still, he's a large young thing, all barrel chest and stocky build, his claws large and shovel shaped, his tail long and his head a finely shaped skull of dragon beauty. Haemath is well aware of how very lovely he is color aside and has no problem attracting attention due to being larger than any of his siblings. Sorry, siblings.

        Personality:
        Oh I love to be
I love to be the underdog

So you think Haemath likes you?

        AHAHAHAHAHAHA.

        Not so much.

Haemath is an outgoing an nice dragon, this is true, but it doesn't mean he cares. He has his own causes that he is fiercely devoted to but outside of that, he is not your psychologist – go to a Mindhealer for that. Complaining about things when not a rider or an actual friend gets a person nothing but a disinterested 'mmhmm' in that lovely deep baritone of his. Granted, it'll be nasal when he is young but it'll develop into the lovely. That said, he is not a mean dragon. Should a friend come running to him with an actual problem, he will avenge them.So what if he's not a gold? Doesn't mean he can't kick a**!

See, one of those causes he is so intense about is the fact that there is too much injustice in the world. Things need to be fixed around Pern. Who better than a brand new color full of awesomeness such as himself? Haemath sees himself as an avenger, although not as cool as Batman. The underdog needs to win sometimes and who says he isn't going to be that awesome person? Haemath needs to be needed, he needs to be spouting about injustice of the world but unlike some other people, he actually works for it. Haemath is not a dragon of words and no actions but rather too many actions. He will get an idea in his head and roll with it, Ramoth help you if you try to stop him from achieving his goals. Canoake needs to keep him in check from these things otherwise he'll start seeing wrongs that need to be righted all over the place and cause almighty havoc.

It's not that he's a mean dragon or a sociopath or anything. Haemath simply seems things in black and white with little wiggle room for gray. If there is a matter in which he's not sure about... he's not atheth, he doesn't go crying to his rider for an easy fix. No! He's there to help his rider, not the other blasted way around. Instead he goes and makes the decision without too much consideration, figuring it's better than absolutely no decision at all. Sometimes he's right.

When he bonds to someone, be it human or another dragon, he stays that way. There probably won't be too many unless his rider decides to force him on people and he grows used to them simply by being around them all the time. Sturnuth is the exception; she gives no wherrieshits and he can admire that. Besides, she's new and un-shiny just like him. Other than that, there are no 'out of the shell' bonds for Haemath; just that sister. He will still rip throats if he has to, dragon or wher, and he has no issue murdering other dragons if it keeps one of his loved ones saved. It's best to get on this guys good side and to stay clear of that 'wrong' part. His justice is not something easily shaken off.

Why me? In Haemath's opinion, Canoake doesn't need no stinkin' gold. She's a princess in and of herself and should be treated like the cream of the crop. After all, he chose her. And why shouldn't he? She is strong and opinionated just like he is, she has her eye on the prize. There are few that can handle a force of nature such as Haemath and fewer still that know how to appreciate his absolute glory. Canoake also has the compassion that Haemath ultimately lacks. Both have a fierce loyalty to themselves. Canoake has herself an equal in Haemath, a dragon as passionate as herself and the drive to get what she wants done in life. They aren't gonna stay in Warden's forever, babe, 'cause she deserves better.
