Sleep began to fade from Kreyate's mind. He could feel the soft grass beneath his body, relishing in the feeling of it he refused to open his eyes just yet. He knew he would be in trouble if he slept for too long, there was work to do and the Sisters didn't like him starting late. But he could enjoy this feeling for just a few moments longer. It was hard to find soft patches of grass like this and so he had to enjoy them while he could. Kreyate moved his head slightly, rubbing his cheek against the soft sweet grass and let out a sigh. Taking in a deep breath he could smell the grass beneath him and another male as well. Eyes shot open in fear as Kreyate realized he wasn't home with the Sisters but in an unfamiliar place with another male. His heart raced in his chest. He couldn't remember how or why he was here or who this other stallion was but he had to get away.

As quickly and quietly as he could Kreyate got to his hooves. Must get out of here! was his only thought. He glanced quickly at the other stallion, not sure if he was asleep or just laying there still and quiet waiting for Kreyate o turn his back on him. Well he wouldn't do that, Kreyate wasn't the smartest Soquili out there but he wasn't stupid enough to give this stranger the edge. Glancing over his shoulder Kreyate began to back out of the clearing, thankful he slept so close to the trees and as such nice and far from the other stallion. As soon as his head cleared the ring of trees he spun around and trotted off down a random game trail he found himself on. He didn't care which was he was running he just wanted to get away, but mostly he wanted to be home. If only he could get help finding his way home! Something about that very thought tickled the back of his mind, telling him what he was doing was foolish but he didn't listen to it and kept moving down the trail at a quick pace.

Zanger wasn't entirely sure what woke him up. Maybe it the snap of a twig nearby..or the sound of someone creeping through the brush..or the hurried hoofsteps he heard leaving their temporary sleeping grounds..wait a minute! In a flash all of those little clues suddenly came together and Zangar shot to his feet, glancing about to discover just what he had feared.

The simpleton had run off.

Zangar cursed. At least the dumb beast didn't have much of a head start..honestly it would serve the colorful stallion right if Zanger didn't bother to follow him..but even as he thought that Zangar knew he'd never be able ot live with himself afterwards. Kreyate was an obvious dullard and annoying to boot but Zangar couldn't let him wander around and possibly get hurt when he had told him he'd help. Grumbling he started off in the direction he'd heard the stallion leave.

"Kreyate?" He called out "Kreyate! Come back here!"

Kreyate was certain his heart would explode with fear when he heard the stallion voice call out. Not only did the other call out, but he knew his name! How was that possible?! He put on an initial burst of speed as his mind raced to think this whole thing out. There was something about that voice, about that stallion and Kreyate needed to figure it out fast. He knew he wasn't home, which meant the other stallion wasn't a slave as well. Or was he a slave and they just happened to have found each other? No that didn't sound right. But there was something important about the stallion, something from the other day. His steps slowed now, as the pieces slowly started to come together. The other stallion, Zangar, had happened upon him and...had offered to help him get home.

Feeling embarrassed Kreyate wasn't sure what to do. He shouldn't run from the one trying to help him, but he wasn't sure how to explain why he ran in the first place. Without giving it much thought, a trend that filled a large portion of his life and actions, Kreyate came to an abrupt halt and lowered his head. The stallion began to crop at the short grass here acting as if he had left the clearing because he was hunger, his ears swiveled as he listened to Zangar's approach.

Where was the beast going? This was absurd...he was going in the complete wrong direction as well. Zangar was fuming, he kept telling himself all of the things he would tell the colorful stallion when he managed to catch up with him. Remind the beast that he ,Zangar, had gone so far out of his way to help him and this was how he was going to be thanked? By having him run off like that? No thank you!

But when he finally broke from some trees and spotted the stallion apparently grazing Zanger didn't do anything but let out a deep sigh. "You could have eaten the grass where we slept you know." He groused..not that he expected any sort of response. Kreyate really wasn't much of a talker...or a thinker.

"Well..hurry up then so we can get moving." He finally stated after a few more moments of silence. He supposed he might as well take a few bites himself while they were wasting time like this. "I don't think we have to much farther to go." He encouraged the other stallion hoping that it would encourage him to hurry it up. Zangar had noted some mountains in the distance and he was sure the stallions herd had to live somewhere between them and their position because he did not think the colorful stallion could have survived trying to navigate the mountains.

Surprised that this had even worked, imagine that something he thought up actually working, Kreyate stood there half frozen. His ears twitched as Zangar spoke but he teeth were frozen where they were holding tight to a clump of grass. He could have just eaten the grass where they had slept. Those words bounced around his skull willing him to give an answer or a reason as to why he was out here and not back in the clearly but it was taking a while to think of something. It seemed he had used up all his thinking powers coming up with this plan. Of course when Zangar said that he thought they were almost to Kreyate's home the dark colored stallion seemed to regain some of his functions again. He snipped the grass, chewed it and swallowed hard. Home...he was almost home.

But then he remembered there was still the matter of him wandering off. "Kreyate never eat where sleep." That was as good of excuse he could give at such short notice and he figured Zangar wouldn't argue with that. In fact the stallion rarely spoke which suited the big stallion just fine. Slowly he raised his head and looked at his helper. "Kreyate ready to go home." He announced and then stood there waiting for Zangar to lead the way. Normally he would have just started off on his own and adjusted his course at Zangar's words but having run out from the clearing in his early morning panic Kreyate had gotten himself turned around and wasn't sure which way was the right way to go. He supposed he could just randomly pick a direction and start walking but with being so close to home he didn't want to waste any time traveling in the wrong direction again.

Zangar just stared at the stallion. Just.Stared. He didn't eat where he slept..well..wasn't that just completely dandy? Zangar had to remind himself that he was (hopefully) very close to ridding himself of the rainbow stallion and his odd ways before he blew up on the poor beast. It really wasn't fair of him to get upset over the stallions oddities when he was so obviously working with less then a full moons worth of brains upstairs - but even knowing that it was very hard not to be frustrated with him.

Grinding his teeth and swallowing his anger Zanger blew out a very large breath and prayed to the Angeni of patience for help before turning around and marching back into the woods. "Well lets go then, since your ready." He'd just eat on the way..unlike the rainbow stallion Zangar was capable of doing two things at once.

As Zangar stared at him Kreyate looked back at the other stallion, he wasn't necessarily staring at him, but more staring blankly into the distance, it just so happened that Zangar was standing there in his view. The silence stretched out between them but Kreyate wasn't all that aware of it. Honestly he was used to the silent treatment from his herd so silence was quite welcoming to the odd stallion, noise is what bothered him, especially loud noise that was directed at him. That generally meant he had done something wrong and was getting in trouble. But with Zangar there wasn't that. Oh the stallion raised his voice now and then but it wasn't like when the Sisters yelled at him.

Words cut through his dull thoughts and Kreyate's eyes focused once more. He saw the other stallions retreating form and had to hurry to catch up. He could not afford to be left behind so close to home. Of course once he had caught up to the stallion he returned to his normal manner of walking, head low, eyes focused on the ground in from of him, concentrating on putting on hoof forward and then the other. He missed a lot of things walking like this but it was Kreyate's way of moving through life, the less he saw the less he had to think and that suited the stallion perfectly. Home, he told himself over and over again with each step, almost home.

Zangar's ears tipped backwards - the better to hear the stallion behind him and make sure the strange beast didn't run off again when he wasn't paying attention. Zangar just wanted to get the stallion home so that he could go back to his traveling and forget he had ever run across him,

Well....maybe that was a bit harsh. Kreyate wasn't all that bad, at least he wasn't mean or cruel..just not very bright and Zangar supposed he ought not judge the other stallion quite so harshly, even if this good deed had taken a great deal of time away from his own pursuits. In any case Zangar judged they would hit the mountains by nightfall and he rather hoped the stallions herd sometime before that..provided of course that they were in the right area, which Zangar was pretty sure they were..at least according to the others vague description of his home.

They continued on like they had for the past few days...it had been days since Zangar came across him and provided him with an escort home right? Kreyate wasn't sure and honestly those details didn't matter that much to the stallion, he was going home and that was all that mattered. His eyes remained glued on the ground in front of him, staring quite intently but not necessarily seeing everything that passed before his gaze. He heard Zangar's hooves hit the ground in front of him at a constant rate. He could be blind and still manage to follow the other stallion. Though given his penchant for not paying attention to his surroundings Kreyate was practically blind. Unless it passed right in front of him he rarely saw or acknowledged anything.

So it was quite fortunate that the stallion happened to glance up when he did. His head snapped up fully as he took in the sight of a large rock ahead that seemed quite out of place given the landscape. What was it about this rock that grabbed his attention so? Curious at this sudden activity of his mind Kreyate took off towards the rock. When he reached it the stallion examined it carefully. Wait a second! He knew this rock. His gaze turned quickly to Zangar. "Kreyate know this rock. Kreyate move this rock as punishment for Sisters." He told Zangar in an oddly excited tone. "Kreyate home close now." How close he didn't specify, didn't think it mattered to share that detail. All he knew was that he was closer to home than ever before and that made him happy.

Zangar stopped almost as soon as he heard the stallion speak, It was almost startling really - that sudden voice behind him. the other stallion was so quiet and unobtrusive that when he wasn't being annoying or running off Zangar could almost forget that he was even there...almost.

"You know this rock..wait..you moved this rock?" Zangar asked, suddenly a bit more impressed with the stallion then he had been before and looking at the ground around the rock he could see the slight trail where the rock might have been shoved a bit some time in the past. "This is a huge rock..I couldn't move this rock." He stated..though he decided not to comment on the fact that it was a punishment..shoving a rock around hardly seemed like the worst punishment out there and Kreyate was kind of dumb...who knew what he had done to deserve it.

"Good ..good..lets keep going then, maybe we will find these sisters of yours today."

KReyate couldn't help but puff out his chest in pride when Zangar told he that he wouldn't be able to more the rock. Zangar was quite a bit smaller than Kreayte, not so much height wise but certainly muscle wise. Kreyate had been doing labor for the Sisters since he was a foal and outside of the last few months were all of his time was spent wandering trying to get home he was always doing some form of work that caused him to develop large muscles. He wasn't as strong now as he was before but even so he knew he could do a lot of the old grunt work the Sisters made him do. Tipping his head to the side Kreyate looked over the rock again, the memory of him pushing it all the way out here flooded his mind. It had taken him days to complete the task and there was always at least one Sister with him forcing him to keep going when his muscled had reached their end.

His mind recognized that Zangar was talking and he slowly pulled his gaze from the rock to the other stallion. Well Zangar seemed fairly excited as well. And then he mentioned possibly finding his sisters today and that made Kreyate shake his head. "Kreyate...Sisters not so close. Kreyate this two days from here. Kreyate take long time to push rock out here, but walk home not so bad." The rock after all had been pushed quite some ways outside of the herd territory. But even so, he was home, practically there in his mind. This rock was the further he had ever ventured out of the herds lands, outside of the last few months of wandering trying to find his way, and so it was like a beacon to him, telling him he had made it and that he was finally home. With a bit of a shrug Kreyate before to follow the faded trail of where he had pushed the large rock. He really didn't need to follow it, now that he had seen the rock he knew how to get home, at least he thought he did.

Well there went Kreyate being a total killjoy again..here Zangar had thought himself almost rid of him and the stallion told him there was still a few days of travel left. Well...He supposed it couldn't be helped. At least he knew they were going in the right direction. "I guess we can follow the trail back at least..to make sure we don't miss your herd." He mentioned and altering his path began to follow the old faded stone trail.

There was still a few hours of daylight left so they could a few more miles under their hooves before he had to stop and find them somewhere safe to stay. Only a couple more days the stallion kept reminding himself..only a couple more days.

Home. Kreyate almost couldn't believe it. He was home, well as close to home as he had been in...a long time. He wondered exactly how long he had been gone, it felt like a very long time but was it weeks or months. Honestly he didn't know. Did it matter how long he had been gone? That made him think a bit. He didn't know what happened exactly to the herd, he had been chased off admit all of the fighting. He didn't know who had or hadn't survived, if other slaves had made it back or stayed among all the chaos and fighting. Would there even be anyone there? That thought made him snort. Of course they would be there, the herd had always been here and always would be, he had just gotten so lost on his desperate flee from the Sister who had chased him off that it had taken him much longer than he had expected to get back. But now he was back and a great weight seem to have been lifted from his shoulders.

Unlike before when he walked with his nose close to the ground eyes glued to the ground directly in front of him now Kreyate walked with his head up. Not quite as high as Zangar held it, no that would probably never happen, but it was the most alive and animated he'd been since...well it's the first time he ad felt like this in a long time. Home, back to the strict routines set by the Sisters and more work than he could even keep up with, those thoughts made him extremely happy. Kreyate even went so far as to give Zangar a half smile, though whether the other stallion caught it or would understand what it was for he wasn't sure.

They had been traveling for months..well not really..but it felt like it given his companions silent dull company. Zangar had never been so ready for a trip to end then he was for this one too. It was with great dismay that he had realized the stone trail zigged and zagged all over the place, clearly the punishment had involved pushing the rock over the worst possible terrain one could find..so he had eventually abandoned that trail to forge his own and it was with even more dismay that in the darkening hours they found themselves on the banks of a large river.

"I hope you know your way across this thing." Zangar muttered to Kreyate as he paced the shoreline. "We'll have to get across it tomorrow morning..it's to late to try now even if it is shallow." He finally deduced "We can sleep here on the bank." It was a bit more open then Zangar would have liked but given the circumstances he thought it would be fine, they hadn't found so much of as a whiff of danger in a while now.

Kreyate wasn't sure how long it had taken them to travel from the boulder to the river but he was even more excited to see it. The river was at the edge of the herds territory, at least he remembered a river being there, but there was more than one in the area and he couldn't remember if this was the one that signified the border of the herds land or the one a bit of a ways outside the border. It didn't matter in the end, he was so close to home he could smell it. In fact he took a deep breath and...well actually he couldn't smell it. A frown tugged at his lips, shouldn't he be able to smell home? Or had he been gone so long that he had forgotten what home smelled like? It didn't matter, he told himself, that boulder a ways back was proof enough that he was home.

He walked to the rivers edge and took a drink while listening to Zangar. He had to agree, it was a bit too dark to cross now, which was slightly disappointing to him. Slowly, now that his thirst had been slacked, Kreyate looked to Zangar. "Kreyate know how to cross." That was really all he could say at the moment, he could get them safely across once he could clearly see the river and find those few places that were safe for them to cross, but for now they were stuck here, so close to their goal and yet no way to get there tonight. If only they had wings like many of the Sisters did, then he could be home tonight.
