User Image A grin was on the wily cheetah's face. He'd managed to con his way into a good meal again, the owner of the kill off finding the perfect garnishment for such a dead animal. The fact it was a lion was the icing on the cake for him! Well, a lioness. A particularly GULLIBLE one, at that. Okay, maybe it wasn't nearly THAT impressive. But eating a zebra was absolutely golden for the cheetah, as he sat licking a paw, cleaning the blood off of it. It wouldn't do him well for the lioness to come back and find half the meat gone... He'd need a sucker to rough him up a bit to make it look like he'd protected it best he could, but lost half to someone else....

Something smelled delicious. Dead, edible, and not yet rotting. Yareha was able to care for himself, but he wasn't so proud as to turn down a potentially free meal. The white lion altered course and headed for the corpse. His life had been fairly uneventful of late, with only the landscape changing around him as he traveled. Even his travels were uneventful, as the lion often did not stick to the same direction of travel two days in a row. He wasn't going anywhere in particular, nor did he have any destinations in mind.

The lion's pace slowed as he came into view and saw that there was someone else already there. From a distance, it looked like a lioness, given that there was no mane and the person was rather slim. Intrigued, Yareha came closer.

He had company, and it wasn't the lioness. In fact, he wondered if she'd wandered off and gotten lost... Or distracted... A part of the cheetah was beginning to worry, as she'd been gone a while.... He finished cleaning the blood off his coat, looking up with his bi-colored eyes... And his fur promptly stood up as he jumped, letting out a hiss. If there was one animal he would NOT mess with, it was the male lion. Every single one he'd met was big, brutish, and just horribly cruel to the lesser cheetah. In fact, the last one he'd met, a dark male with almost glowing stripes, had actually beaten the cheetah up and tried to keep him as a pet or slave! Not that either had much difference.

Back arched, he started to edge around so that the kill would be between them. Better to keep the lion sated and occupied, right? "Eat what you want, just leave my gorgeous coat in one un-marred piece!"

That was...definitely not a lioness. Yareha had not often seen other felines around, but the distinctly male voice the creature possessed forced him to realize that this was, in fact, a cheetah. The white lion didn't think that he'd ever met one before. He was fairly certain he'd rememeber such a thing, but he couldn't be certain.

Blue eyes blinked in surprise as the cheetah offered the remainder of the kill to him. It was quite fortuitious, but Yareha couldn't understand why the smaller male looked so scared.

"Ah, okay," he replied stupidly. "But I don't want to leave you with nothing at all..." he offered hesitantly. He really had no idea why a total stranger would offer him a meal, but as a big brawny lion Yareha had little fear of what the cheetah could do to him.

He wasn't attacking? Well, maybe the food offering had worked... Maraka eyed the lion, keeping a distance between them. "I already ate." If the lion ate, he wouldn't want to eat Maraka... The cheetah's tail lashed as he tried to not growl. "Eat that, but don't eat me! Or try to make me a slave!" As the saying went, once bitten, twice shy. Maraka wasn't too keen on trusting a male lion as far as he could throw one... And since he couldn't throw one, he didn't trust them. Trusting the lioness to not hurt him had been a stretch as it was.

"Oh. Well thank you," the lion replied when the cheetah said he'd already eaten his fill. It was perhaps not the strangest thing he'd ever encountered as a rogue, but definitely up there.

As Yareha took another couple steps towards the carcass, the cheetah began speaking again. He blinked again in shock at what the smaller male was saying, then frowned.

"Why on earth would I eat you? Or want to make you a slave? Then I'd have to lug you along after me and spend all my time worrying about you and what you might do?" the lion's genuine confusion suffused his words and puzzlement covered his face.

He shifted a bit, hackles still up. "You're a lion... A male lion... Male lions go after cheetahs like me..." Cheetahs who didn't like to do their OWN work. "You're all the same... You all want us as... As pets or slaves... Or to kill us, and wear us!" He moved, putting the dead animal between him and the lion. "That's what the other lion said! He told me that being his pet, or his slave, would be better than being his new wearing-pelt! I scratched HIS face and ran!" If he had to, he was ready to do the same to this lion. He was NOT going to be someone's pet or pelt!

"I haven't any idea what kind of nutjob you met, but not all lions are alike. I see no reason to want a pet or slave, regardless of who or what they are," Yareha informed the cheetah, his tone sharpening with anger at being considered to be the same as some random rogue that the other male had previously encountered.

"Besides, I already have a partner," the lion pointed out, nodding upwards to a circling speck high above.

The cheetah hesitated, then looked up, spying the bird above. Ah... Who needed a second pet with a pet like that? He looked back to the lion, turning his yellow eye to warily watch him. "You're NOT going to eat me...? Or anything...?" Ever so slightly, Maraka began to relax. He didn't let his guard down, but he at least relaxed. "He was a big lion, a huge brute... Dark, almost black... Stripes that almost seemed to GLOW... And bright green eyes..." It was like the lion had a personal vendetta against cheetahs. He couldn't figure that animal out... And he hoped to never run into it again!

Now the white lion was getting annoyed. Was this cheetah not right in the head or something? The smaller male seemed to have no ability to understand the fact that Yareha had no real interest in him. Maybe he was just so self-centered he couldn't imagine anyone not wanting him around. A strange concept to hold fast to in the presence of a, well, a threat, but whatever.

"No. I'm not. And I haven't the faintest idea who you met. Nor do I care!" the lion growled. This was getting very old very fast. He appreciated the meal, but what good was it if the grey male kept him talking and prevented him from eating it?

Maraka let out a humph, the finally sat down. "Okay..." He kept an ear on the male lion, turning to look for the lioness. She hadn't gotten eaten by a crocodile, had she...? A part of him was actually beginning to WORRY. He glanced back at the male lion, before looking again to the horizon. He'd have to find her later... For now, he was occupied with making sure that this lion was, indeed, safe... And a well-fed lion could easily be a safe lion, couldn't it? Neither would be in any shape for any chasing... Digestion would take a while and running now would only cause cramps. So Maraka kept his mouth shut so the lion could eat.

Yareha's eyes narrowed as the cheetah's word trailed off into silence. He waited, but nothing followed. Finally! Had the little idiot managed to pick up on the fact that the white lion was swiftly losing his patience?

Whatever. It was dinner time at last, and Yareha went to it with a will.
