Jannai
Name: Jannai
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Candidate: Yes
Craft/Rank: Former Seacrafter/Guard/ Journeyman Canine breeder
Appearance:
The younger sister, Jannai can seem almost effortlessly beautiful. She looks much like her sister- Average built, wavy black hair tied up in a loose braid, a suntanned face with angles, even down to her light blue eyes. They'd be twins if not for the arrogant glamour that Jannai just seems to have. She isn't nearly as vain as her sister, but she carries her looks with her like a cloak.
She wears a guard uniform, but often wears fisherman's boots.
Personality:
Good:
Loyal
Methodical
Neutral:
Militaristically Minded
Desires Fame
Competitive
Bad:
Glory Seeking
Easily Envious
Jannai is a plotter. She doesn't want to be stuck in the life of a dog breeding guard. She wants to be great! An amazing military person, perhaps, or some sort of leader.
She doesn't know.
She just knows that she is destined for greatness, and she wants that more than anything. She envies those in power: the ship captains, the wardens, the squadleaders... She wants to be them.
So she tries to get noticed, she tries to rise above everybody else so that someone will see her greatness and promote her.
Like her sister, if someone has something she does not, and she wants it, she will WANT it with a smouldering passion.
But where her sister is forced to leave it at that, not being a thief or a subtle manipulator, Jannai makes careful plans to get what she wants, complete with maneuvering and careful words.
She fancies herself a general of old. Shaff that shes a woman, she wants to be a ruler.
She loves and hates those harper tales. Loves, because thats what she wants to be. Hates, because she doesn't have it.
Shes smart. She's careful. She is pretty damn good at planning group dynamics, even if in person her sharp tongue and attitude will undermine her aims.
Despite the jealous nature of her and her sister, Jannai can have her sweet moments. Of the three (Jamarin, Jkaita, and Jannai) she is the one that shows her love for her family in the most recognizable way. Her tongue may be sharp, but she does sheathe it.
When Jamarin was hurting, though, she was the one that convinced Jkaita to continue annoying him in an insensitive way. Her plan was to re-balance him through normalcy.
She admits it was misguided, but asserts, still, that it was better than sympathy or comfort.
She doesn't know what to do with Jamarin now. He is a hard to predict person. She isn't sure how to plan around him.
In all, Jannai is an extremely ambitious planner sort of person consumed by jealousy and hampered by shortsightedness.
History:
Jkaita and Jannai were brought up seacrafters. Unlike their brother, they loved the sea, regular little ship brats.
Until they discovered dogs.
They got involved in beastcraft and dog breeding and eventually left the life of the sea for canine breeding.
Their mentor was involved in breeding fighting dogs for the fighting rings that began cropping up, and his two apprentices helped him in that.
Three years ago, the fighting ring was busted and the two, then apprentice and Journeyman canine beastcrafters, managed to escape with their tails intact. They took their dogs and started breeding guard dogs and selling them in the hopes that that would make them less suspicious to the Watch. (18 and 16 respectively)
The biggest market for their dogs was Wardens Weyr, where large, scary dogs were often brought out in patrol. Although initially reluctant to travel so close to where they could be caught, they decided that the whole dog-fighting thing had cooled down anyway. And, also, they had recieved a letter from their brother J'min, who worked there.
They had never much liked their scrawny seasick prankster older brother, but figured that with him around as a guard, the heat would finally be off of them for that incident with the dog fighting.
So they made the move and realized that they quite took to being guards as well as dogcrafters. They were, after all, already ferocious. (19, 17, repectively)
They also proceeded to harass and harangue their brother, not even stopping when his bondmate left him for between.
In the two Turns that Jamarin vanished and was presumably dead, they thrived. Dogs were handy, if not telepathic and intelligent in the way that dragons and whers were, and unbonded (and some bonded) guards found their dogs useful.
They were upset and appalled when Jamarin returned with a wher in tow.
(21, 19)
He lives with them now, and they are disconcerted by the way he seems to just shrug off their comments and snark.
