Jamarin

Name: Jamarin, formerly J'min
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Craft/Rank: Former Searchrider/Informant/Seacrafter/Guard

Appearance:
Jamarin is a tall, lean, bony man who is surprisingly strong. His grey-brown eyes are very narrow and hard to see, but have a dullness to them that does not match his perpetually cheery expression. He is always smiling in some way, unless hes puzzled- in which case, he briefly adopts a perplexed expression before returning to his smile. Sometimes its a comforting smile, sometimes its terrifying, other times its just plain odd.
Many consider his smile to be creepy...
But its worse when he isn't smiling. His face somehow can contort into the most demonic expression. It looks impossible for a human face to do, and its ******** terrifying. Fortunately, he doesn't do this often or for long, but if you see that face, you know that s**t has hit the fan. A lot of it. Several herdbeasts worth of it. Its very rare, and quite possibly nobody at wardens has ever seen it.
He can do other expressions, too, but generally, in order to drop the smiling mask, something big has to happen.

He wears a scraggly beard and normal clothes with heavy Leather boots and heavy leather gloves, and- whenhes expecting a fight- he wears brass knuckle dusters as well. He also has a knife and a crossbow, but when hes fighting it will usually be hand to hand.

Personality:
Good:
Highly Social
Close to Friends/Forms interpersonal connections well
Neutral:
Defensively Aggressive
Energetic
Flirty
Dirty Fighter
Struggling to keep himself together
Bad:
Nosey
A bit of a Braggart
Hard to Read

Jamarin has always been a tough nut to crack, more so after his return to Wardens. It almost seems as though he hasn't changed at all, and yet there is a sense of unnerving off-ness about him. Its hard to put one's finger on it, but theres something not right...

But what is it?

He's still a highly social and chatty individual. He is very outgoing, walking right up to people and engaging them. He likes to know everybody and everyone. He has the impression of always being cheerful and chipper and energetic, without Klah, and sometimes he seems almost flirtatous, though whether he is flirting or not is often ambiguous.

He is in everybody's business- to help, in theory, but also he is simply a nosy b*****d. Its very easy to incite his curiousity- simply existing will do it.
If anything, this quality has increased upon his return. He simply has to know about everything, one way or another.

He doesn't mind spreading the information around either. He is a gossipy guy, though he does embellish a little bit... especially when he's talking about himself. He likes to make himself seem bigger than he is, though it is usually so absurd that it is fairly clear that no, he did not save the day, he just happened to help out a little. No, he isn't a superhuman with muscles the size of his wher's head, he's just a scrawny grinning b*****d. Hasn't changed a bit.

Even his fighting style hasn't changed much. He prefers to fight defensively and in hand to hand, using unarmed brawling to bring down prisoners and rowdy folks and hold them down (or in a trough) until they calm down. He doesnt like weapons like crossbows or knives, preferring a gloved and brass-knuckled hand.

Some have noticed that a few key things have changed. For one thing, he used to be cautious and strategic. Now, seeing him in a combat situation, he is a lot less cautious and more likely to charge right in. He seems to have no fear or regard for himself. He just rushes in with that maniacally cheerful grin on his face and starts pounding away.

And another thing that may not have been noticed. Time was, he would try to not kill anybody. Suuyeth was a sensitive dragon and would not have been happy. And J'min himself didn't see any reason to kill.
Now?
He doesn't care. He punches and punches hard, and he doesn't care if they live or die. Just that the fight is over. forget a fair fight, he fights to win.

Because the truth is he HAS changed. Under the cheerful surface is a man holding it all together with spit and prayers. He lost half his soul and while Jamisk helps to ease the pain, its still there, this pit. He doesn't even know if he is entirely Jamarin anymore, since Jamarin had Suuyeth. Without Suuyeth, though, what remains?
Someone a lot more cold, a lot more cruel.
Alive, able to keep going, yes.
But sometimes he wonders if he is a monster inhabiting the shell of the man that was once Jamarin, a half-souled beast in a whirl of pain and anger, screaming at fate and defying it as it echoes in the hole Suuyeth left.

Defying fate, because he refuses to follow Suuyeth between. He made a decision on dragonback and in the two turns he vanished off the map.
HE WOULD LIVE ON.
SHARDS TO THE PAIN.
HE WOULD LIVE ON.
That conviction sustains him, but he doesn't let on. He keeps the cheerful mask on all the time, except when he is alone with only Jamisk for company.
Then he cries himself to sleep with his wher.
Because conviction or not, Suuyeth is still gone forever.

Jamarin, in short, is a hollowed out man inhabiting the shell of a cheerful, social, gabby, fighting busybody who is determined to live on despite this.

History:
Jamarin was born a seacrafter in Tillek Hold. Fishers, pirate-catchers, Dolphineers, and simple boatmen, Jamarin and his sisters grew up in a place where simply getting the job done was more important than discipline and ritual, where saying things plainly was more important than dolling up words and playing political games.
Jamarin always had a lot of energy, and could sail a ship, but wasn't actually suited to the sea itself- he never seemed to get his sea legs and was always stumbling around the ship in rough waters or feeling ill and miserable. He wanted to work with his family, though, and so stuck to shore activities like Netcraft and sailcraft and cargo moving. He kept himself busy, but felt a little insecure about his lack of proper sea legs.
Fortunately, when he was 16, a rider from Fort Weyr Searched him and brought him back to Stand.
He impressed to a small blue named Suuyeth and (17) they employed themselves as couriers and Searchriders.
Jamarin- J'min- was great with people and learned that he could pretend to be whatever he wished and gain the trust of people.
This was not unnoticed by the Watch, and he was approached as a possible informant on a Nabol dust ring. Pretending to be a normal non dragon rider, J'min infiltrated their ranks and, in two turns, found enough information to deliver them to the Watch, wrapped- metaphorically- in gift wrap.
He volunteered for another infiltration- it had been so fun- and, needing good informants, the watch arranged for him to help them in their investigation of Marsitas hold's rising crime rate.
The investigation went well, until J'min found himself in a situation where he would have to imbibe Crackdust. Suuyeth, worried (and ensconced miserably in a cave or posing as a courier), advised him to either politely decline or fake it.
J'min, however, was curious. What WAS this dust like. He tried it.
He liked it.
At first it was only a little bit. For his cover, he told Suuyeth who was worried that his rider would be harmed.
Then a bit more.
Then a bit more. And more.

One day, J'min went too far, collapsing in a shivering overdose.
Suuyeth had been trying to stay out of his rider's informant work- dragons, even smallish blues- were a bit conspicuous- but his rider was in dire danger.
Bugling and broadcasting his distress to any Watchrider nearby, he begged someone to help his rider.
J'min was extracted and sent to Wardens to 'clean up'. when sober he gave them what information he could. (22)
Suffice to say, he was retired as an informant.
Suuyeth, for his part, swore to keep his rider clean. But their cover had been blown, and word had spread. They couldn't return to their old haunts- their safety was compromised.

They signed on as guards at Wardens Weyr (23), and often tried to make sure they were signed up for patrols near the mindhealer's offices, as Suuyeth, because of his searchdragon sensitivities, liked to be around the mindhealers and often attempted to help them. It was joked that Suuyeth would have been a mindhealer if he wasn't a dragon.

Two turns in, Suuyeth and J'min were on guard duty when an inmate got violent with a mindhealer. They rushed to the scene and Suuyeth tried to knock over the inmate with his head stuck through a window while J'min tried to get the inmate under control.
He succeeded, but not before the inmate stabbed Suuyeth in the eye with his knife, stabbing deep. With a scream, Suuyeth vanished Between, leaving a stunned J'min with a stuggling, screaming, giggling inmate.

Another guard relieved him and, feeling hollowed and in pain, Jamarin contemplated his fate.

A rider friend of his offered to take him between, and he accepted.

But when he was in the air, when he was seeing things from above, something clicked. He shouted that he had changed his mind in the other riders ear and told him to take him elsewhere, anywhere else, and leave him there.

Surprised, the other rider agreed.

Nobody heard from Jamarin for two whole Turns.
Then, almost suddenly (27, during the Watch Investigation), he arrives at Wardens Weyr with a Blue Weyr in tow, asking to be reinstated, smiling as if nothing had ever happened.

But old friends will note that his smile is dim, sad, and almost hollow or terrifying. And that things seem (understandably) off with the dragonless wherhandler.

Is it Jamarin who returned, or some strange spectre?

Other stuff:
Left Wardens temporarily two turns ago
Knows a few of the guards, May know a few of the watch
Has no clue about the whole hatching business
Will not be advertising his dragonlessness, thank you.

Jamisk

Name: Jamisk 'Jamjam'
Color: Blue
Age: 2
Appearance:
Jamjam is a long-bodied blue wher (ferret proportions) whith an unusual amount of subcutaneous fat. While this means he gets hot easily, it also means that he is very squish able and huggable, which he doesn't mind. This is helped by his soft skin: he is a very smooth Wher (no lumpy bits and rounded horns), medium size (mid-small range for a blue wher), with a narrow body, smooth and flexible mobility, with largish eyes, and gentle temperment. He is likely of a breed of Wher developed for tunnels and mines.
Doesn't mean that Jamjam cant fight, but he is better at pinning than fighting. And better at cuddling than anything.

Personality:

Jamisk loves people. No really, he does.
He loves physical affection and absolutely enjoys nuzzling with his sensitive nose, or cuddling, or being hugged. He likes especially to send simple happiness to all minds around him. They shouldn't be sad, they should be happy too! Because he is happy and he loves them!

He especially loves his handler! Oh his handler is so unhappy sometimes, but thats why he's there! To help him! Be happier!

Jamisk knows that people think whers are scary and dirty, so he tries to be as unscary and clean as possible. That way, people will cuddle him, right? Yay!

He doesn't like fighting. He doesn't like it, not at all. But Jamarin fights, and he doesn't want Jamarin to get hurt. In a fight, he uses his long length and flexibility to get in the way of attackers and tries to immobilize or trip them.
He understands though that Jamarin fights to protect people and stop... bad guys?
its a hard concept for him to understand. But thats what Jamarin does. So Jamisk will do it too...?

Sometimes... all the time, really... Jamisk is a bit silly. He likes it when people laugh. So, he's a bit of a prankster. Being young, he hasn't quite figured out what pranks are appropriate and which are not. Thats Jamarin's job.

Essentially, Jamisk is a snuggly puppy wher. Exhuberant and sweet, but simplistic in thought.
