~~Are all long-distance relationships doomed to fail?~~ And I don't mean like the long distance relationships where someone has to go move to another city and that makes them a long distance relationship. I mean like, two people meet on the internet and find that they have fallen in love with each other (if that's possible) and start dating, making plans that they'll meet someday somewhere.
I'm asking, is this kind of relationship possible to maintain??
Just curious. crying
And sorry if there's a topic of this already-- I can't seem to find it if it exists.

It's very possible, there just has to be a strong commitment between the two people.
I had a LDR for nearly 5 years (we met online) and we actually met in person a couple of times. We lived on opposite sides of the country but we made it work. I broke up with him though after I realized he wasn't going to make the effort to come and move out with me (since I was on a scholarship at university and could not leave my home state for another three years).
That probably isn't very comforting to say to you lol but I think 5 years is a long time for any relationship, so I was proud for maintaining it for as long as we did. We were happy, and there were never any trust issues, but there was no intention of moving forward at some point. But we did meet each other, met each other's families and had a great time together. So I think it is possible. smile

And don't get me wrong, I'm not against LDRs or anything, I'm currently in one myself (lol). I'm just curious as to how other people would view it. biggrin Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me. whee

I would get embarrassed though when I explained to friends and family about my situation because they didn't understand it, especially since there was very little time we spent in person so they didn't get how I was in love with someone 'i never met before'. But nonetheless, I hope all goes well for your LDR! : )

It's definitely possible! A friend of mine from another forum lived in England, and she fell in love with a guy from Australia. Long story short, after a couple of years she ended up moving over there and they are now engaged. I believe they've been together for three and a half or four years now.
I've been in a LDR myself (I'm in Canada, he was in England) and I actually met up with the guy a couple of times. Unfortunately, his real life personality and attitude were quite different to the ones he portrayed online. So obviously it didn't end up working out. :C

Wow! Your friend's story is motivating! xD Thanks for sharing it! biggrin
And I'm sorry about your own LDR encounter. :c That's probably one of the main problems between LDRs. People usually say that people act different on the internet than in real life. ;-; Regardless, I hope you find the right one soon~ heart

well, i am in one right now. i met him on here actually due to a mutual hate on a person.
almost one year, so i'm excited emotion_bigheart he's visiting me in three months c:
he is legitimately the most wonderful guy i have ever acquainted myself with, but he doesn't believe it, and vice versa.
but, they are possible to maintain. it takes a lot of patience, trust, and communication to make them work. if you are feeling lonely, more often than not, your partner is too. it's nice to talk about things you are uncomfortable with, tell each other secrets, love with your mind not with your body? yes; however, it does get hard because of the lack of physical attention: there are no hugs, no kisses, which opens up a tendency to want to cheat, break up and date other guys. all i can really say is P E R S E V E R E.
If you are serious enough for your man, want to monopolize him, as he would you, better be some hard work on that s**t.
you cannot half-a** love;if you do, it doesn't work out. it is possible. i have met many people who are now engaged and/or married who have met online. one of my acquaintances met her husband of eight years on gaia, and another met her fiancee of two years on neopets.
so to answer your question, not all LDRs are doomed to fail. i dislike that kind of mentality with a thousand white hot suns. if you love someone enough, it will endure. you both just make it work.
