Tired as he was, Jude's day blurred into monotony: half asleep at school, floundering through lunch, barely able to remember if he'd eaten, dozing on his feet during gym class. Work wasn't much better. An endless sea of faces, orders after orders, and he filled them on auto pilot. Soy latte. Chocolate chip ice drinks. I said fat free three or four times.

It was a relief to blink up from his register and see something new.

As his eyes settled on Ax, his expression woke up some, and slid toward puzzled. His order would be lost as Jude considered his face, the flash of his hair, the color of his eyes.

"...hey, I know you." It came out slowly, though, and as soon as it was out of his mouth, Jude flushed.

"Thank's bro, I'll have a carmel frapacinno." Wait.. What did this barista just say to him?

Axton had also been running on autopilot, but not because he was tired. No, Ax had simply checked out, mind wandering elsewhere while he'd been waiting for his order to be filled. He hadn't been expecting the kid behind the counter to diviate from the usual script, so when he had it took a second for Ax to realize it.

"I'm sorry, what'd you say?" He wasn't trying to be rude, he just hadn't really regestered what the barista had said.

Truth be told he hadn't been paying a whole lot of attention to the kid behind the counter. He was there to take his order and exchange money. A part of the cafe, but not really a person. Until now. Now he payed the kid some attention. Mid teens, blonde, easily flustered.

For a moment, Jude fumbled: staring at Ax and already regretting having opened his stupid mouth. His eyes were wide and distracted, trying to put two and two together. The hair. The hair was definitely what stood out to him the most --

When it clicked, he couldn't quite hold it back. "...reddit." This was said with certainty, with a breath of relief. He wasn't a complete moron, then. Even if he was still blushing beet red.

"You posted your picture...it was...right?" Oh god, let it be right.

Pale, puzzled eyes rested on the blond and waited patiently for him to regather his wits enough to answer his question. He hadn't taken offense or anything, so the level of fluster the barista was displaying was a little odd. He was more just curious. As far as he could remember he'd never seen this kid before, so how exactly did he know him?

Vaguely he wondered if it was someone he'd met in passing, whom he might have spoken to, but had forgotten about. It wasn't something he did on purpose, but it did happen an awful lot.

Pale brows rose when Jude finally spoke again. Axton did spend an unhealthy amount of time on reddit, so it wasn't outside the scope of possibilities for-

"Oh! You mean the summer barbaque in the middle of winter one?" It was the most recent, and had gotten the closest to the front page. A lost bet that had resulted in him having to stand out in the ankle deep snow in nothing but swim trunks in front of a frozen over barbaque. It had been cold as ********, but the karma he'd managed to pull from it had made it all worth it.

"Yeah, the crazy stupid one." It was, in fact, what he'd posted on that thread. With an upvote, of course; it had been entertaining enough to garner an upvote, even as he'd insulted its poster. Of course, that had been online, and now that they were face to face [and him on the serving end of things] Jude realized that you couldn't quite say things the same in real life as you did on the internet, and with a sharp noise, he stepped away to start up the coffee machine. Not a Starbucks, but he was used to Starbucks orders, all the same.

"...I mean. You know which one." It was a grumble, embarrassed and flushed and shaking his head at himself, behind the counter. Jude had been there three hours, already, and he obviously desperately needed a break. Maybe he'd ask after one once the line died.

Very briefly pale eyes narrowed at the labels the barista was tagging onto his picture, but he cracked a smile after a second, shoulders rolling back in an easy shrug. "Naw, s'cool. Considering how cold it was, I probably could have gotten frostbite in places I would have really regretted later."

Patiently he waited for Jude to complete his order, clearly unfazed by having just been recognized, and insulted, in under five minutes. Really, there wasn't much that Jude could have done that would faze him. He was a very laid back sort of guy.

When The blond had returned with his drink, Ax tossed a couple of singles in the tips jar before paying for his beverage. "So did you happen to leave a comment or a vote?" He probably shouldn't have asked. The line behind him wasn't getting any shorter, but he was curious.

At least Jude could talk and work at the same time: hands working expertly through the motions of manipulating machines that got angry if you messed up a step, of sensitive equipment that so easily fell to pieces and needed obnoxious repair. He knew. He'd seen three or four people on training, over the years, break the espresso machine. Even thinking about it was enough to make him cringe. So he didn't.

He just worked, shooting Ax a look as he got his drink going, and gesturing for him to take two steps to the left so that he could take in the line. It wasn't terrible. Jude licked his lips. "Um. Well. Probably."

That wasn't a good answer, but he hesitated another moment before he clarified. "...probably that you were an idiot." Which was funny, since saying it here was enough to make him blush again. Online, though, he'd probably said something worse than 'idiot'. But at least he hadn't downvoted. Reserve that for the assholes, not just the dumb.

As commanded, Ax took a few steps to the side so he wasn't blocking hte line anymore, completely oblivious to the impatient or ugly looks he may have gotten from anyone that'd had to wait for him to move his a**. He sipped at his drink as he watched Jude work his magic, then had to smile when he answered.

Then he clarified, and Axton couldn't help but laugh. "Yeah, a bit," he agreed, taking another drink. The fingers of one hand sliding up to scratch at the back of his neck.

"So what's your name on there?" It was forward, and blunt, but Ax wouldn't see it that way. He was just trying to figure out if he'd ever happened to catch a sight of a comment or post made by the kid in front of him. "You already know mine." Or at least he might. It was probably wouldn't be hard to find it though. "I'm Ax, though." If a counter and an espresso machine hadn't been between them, he'd have offered a hand for a shake.

Jude hesitated, shooting him a nervous sort of look as he set the drink on the counter in front of Ax, licking his lips. It was more than possible that Jude had never met someone from the internet before, and was now considering his choice to let it happen now. Talking online was -- freeing. Freeing in the way that meant he said whatever he thought, all the time. Freeing in the way that, maybe, sometimes, he was just a little bit of a troll.

"...Springtooth?" It meant that if Ax ever had bumped into him before, it might have made an impression very different from the jittery kid in front of him, on the edge of blushing. Springtooth was prone to long, angry rants about just about any issue. He was everything Jude wished he could say, and didn't.

Ax's head tilted to one side as she tried to recall if he'd ever seen the name crop up in any posts or comments. It didn't ring any bells, but then he wasn't the most observant guy ever, so who knows. After a moment he shrugged, smiling. "Doesn't sound familiar, but there are a lot of people on reddit, and even more throw away names.

When Jude set his drink down for him, Ax shot him a quick thanks and hurriedly took a sip. "Mm, perfect."

Of course now that they'd sort of exhausted the topic of Reddit, the young man found himself at a lose for anything else more useful to say. For a brief, awkward, moment he just stood there, watching the blonde go about his job, and realized he hadn't actually gotten his real name. By accident or design. "Well hey, It was neat meeting someone that recognized me." He lifted his cup, saluting the barista. "Thanks for the drink. I'll get out of your hear now. There's a thrift store a couple blocks over with my name on it."

The word 'thrift store' was music to Jude's ears, made his eyes light up to a surprising degree -- and then wilt. Alas. He knew the place, and knew what he might find there, but he had two hours left and it wasn't payday anyway and --

Petty wants and needs melted away the force of responsibility, and it meant the next customer got a scowl instead of a smile before he caught himself. Jude's eyes flashed onto Ax and then back, his head bobbing in a nod.

"Have fun! If you're finished quickly, let me...let me know if the take is good." But he couldn't talk more than that, really. Instead, he melted back into the routine of work with a puff of a sigh.
