"
Shut up!" Jay roared sitting up from his bed clutching his head in his hand. All the thoughts of people in the hospital bounced around in his head. He tried to hard to block them out and managed to get two hours worth of sleep from the drugs, but even they couldn't hold off his powers for long. He glared around the fuzzy room desperate to find a source of relief from the pain echoing around inside his head. There wouldn't be another delivery of drugs for six more hours and he wasn't sure if he could hold off the pressure for longer than two. He was going more mentally insane with so many people's thoughts bouncing around in his head and there wasn't a chance he was getting out anytime soon to see the new people he was put with. Then again why would he want to when even his own parents abandoned him there?

These weak drugs weren't doing enough for him anymore. He had to get out to get something better and see <******** it, Jay thought climbing out of his bed and knocking the blankets back. He pulled on his little white coat and turned to look outside at the moon glowing brightly in the dead of the night. He snarled and put his hands up taking a deep breath through his nose. His body quivered as he tried to bring forth a power that he had been working so hard to suppress ever since he had first showed up there when he was twelve. Slowly, he closed his eyes to reach deep into himself for that power and suddenly it burst from him. His eyes launched open glowing a powerful golden yellow and the bars on his window shattered along with the glass as if it were never there.

Immediately, sirens started in the hospital, red lights flashed everywhere, doors locked, and people started shouting verbally to add to the loud noises that was causing his agonizing migraines. He yelled as if it would silence the other noises as he took off into the sky causing a sonic burst as he rocketed into the sky.

In a less than graceful landing, he crashed through a few piles of trash horrifying the cats that had been dozing and perusing through them. He skid in the street cutting up his arms and legs a bit, but he got up right away and ran immediately to the first store he could find. He ducked in through the front doors by managing to harness his powers enough to flick the little pin over in the lock. He pushed through into the mall and headed straight for a bath store to get some Jay approving Cold Steel Axe bathing shampoo conditioner combo, body wash, body spray, and deodorant. Equip to clean up, he showered and headed straight to the clothing store to use a towel and dress in loose jeans, high tops, and a yellow hoodie. He also threw a backpack on over his shoulder to use when he headed up to the pharmacy. As soon as he was there, he entered unlocking it easy and found the prescription pills section and loaded up with the best sedatives, pain killers, migraine medicine, and anything else that sounded like it could solve his problems.

Finally, he was able to take some heavy pills that shut up his raging headache that thankfully was duller because everyone was asleep. He hoped the stuff he took would keep him calm for a while, but he took a triple dose figuring it would last longer, boy that was stupid.

Going to Delany's was a lot harder than initially planned. The first leg of the travel, he was fine. Then he slowly got sicker and more tired as he hadn't eaten in a long time. Normally he would have not been effected, but he had been asleep and didn't eat dinner that night. Yet, he still made it to her house.

From the ground level, the second floor looked extremely far away to Jay. Unfortunetly he wasn't able to levitate or really use any of his powers anymore with his senses drowned by the pills, fortunetly for him, she still had the same terrace he used when he was little to climb into her bedroom when they would play tag or he snuck over. He leaned against the side of the house to empty his stomach of what little bit of his pills he hadn't digested in an hour and then took the time to wash his mouth out politely with their garden spicket. Finally ready to climb, he started the longest twenty foot climb of his life up to her window where he found it locked. Without knocking on it, he managed to wiggle the window just right to flick the lock open and slip through the window.

"
Hey, Delany!" he shouted in a whisper stepping through the window and heading over to her light switch to flip it on. "Guess who's back?" he asked with a big grin once the light was on while he rubbed his eyes from the sudden bright light. In the light--even after he showered--Jay looked like a wreck. His poor sleeping was evident in his eyes, his body was malnourished, yet his muscle mass was larger than when he had left her from the strain his powers had been taking on him; and he was pale and sweaty from the side effects of the combination of drugs he took. Before all that though was a huge smile happy to finally see his childhood friend after so long.

"Mom. Seriously, I don't want to talk about it right now, alright?" Delaney spat angrily, tucking a loose strand of her bleach blonde hair behind her ear. She stormed off without hearing her mother's response, wanting nothing more than to get away from her right then. Her mom was always trying to delve into her personal life and it just bugged her to no end. Tonight she was asking about Jay, her friend that had been sent away. Her mom just didn't get him and it irked her to no end. She was always talking about him like he was completely insane and uncontrollable. She just didn't understand. Once in her room, Delaney slammed the door behind her and paced for a few minutes to calm her boiling blood. She hated when people talked about Jay. They didn't know the first thing about him.

After a few minutes, she was calm, and she decided that since it was getting late anyways, she might as well just get ready for bed. She walked to the bathroom and jumped in the shower, washing away all the tension from the day and relaxing. Once out, she dried off and combed out her long hair, drying it off some more so it wouldn't drip. She then put on a pair of shorts and a tank that she always wore to bed before climbing under the covers and snuggling up with a good book. Some people thought it was odd how much she adored reading, since the way she dressed and her gauges seemed to make people judge her. She was actually a rather goody two shoes though, despite what people seemed to think. Soon enough, she put the book down and fell asleep, her argument with her mother long forgotten.

She was woken by the light being flipped on in her room and she rolled over, groaning lightly, thinking it was her mother waking her up for school or something. The moment she heard Jay's voice though, she practically shot up in her bed, blinking and rubbing at her eyes to ensure she was actually seeing him there.
"Jay?!" she questioned in a whisper, her eyes falling on his malnourished form. Concern flooding her eyes, she hopped out of bed and hurried over to him, wrapping her arms around him in a hug and breathing in the smell of Cold Steel axe, the kind Jay always used. She just stood there for a minute before she let him go, looking up at him from where she stood at 5'4". "What are you doing here Jay? Are you alright?" she whispered, not even knowing what to do right now. He looked like a wreck despite the smile on his face and he was supposed to be institutionalized right now. Even though she wasn't a big fan of that, she was still a bit shocked to see him here.

Jay tightly wrapped his arms around Delany not wanting to let her go at all even if he had to bend down a bit to hug her. He could have just stood there forever hugging her as he hadn't seen her in five years. He pulled back to look down at her with a big grin still on his face and it only grew realizing he finally was taller than her, an entire six inches taller than her. Unable to help himself, he hugged her again smiling still, even when she asked him why he was there and if he was okay. Of course he was okay. Even with the slight over dose going on in his system he was beyond thrilled. He finally met Delany again and he was back in his hometown where he should be, even if people did fear him. So, he gave her a nod telling her that he was in deed alright.

"
Yeah, I'm great! They released me... early I want to say. I'm glad to finally be from there. You thought K2 cots were bad, try that place. The padded floors are better than the beds," he smirked. "They let me go for good behavior. The said I was cured so I got to go home earlier that night. My parents forgot to pick me up, so I hitched a ride here since you are the only one I remembered from around here that didn't try to shoot me. Well, that is if we aren't grouping you with your parents." He dropped his backpack on the floor with the axe assortment and pills clinking together and rattling in his bag. He flopped down onto her bed laying on hier bed yawning loudly glad to be finally back with her. It had been way too long since he had gotten a visitor from anyone there.

Delaney was a bit surprised when Jay hugged her again, a goofy smile decorating his face. She was a bit overwhelmed right now, after her conversation earlier that night with her mother and now him showing up here. It had been five years since she'd last seen Jay and other than him being a wreck, he looked much different. He'd grown up a lot and so had she. Last time he saw her was when she was twelve, with her hair a natural brunette and her ears not even close to being gauged. She'd changed a lot and although he still looked a lot like his younger self, he had definitely changed too. She was smiling a little because it had been such a long time since she'd seen her best friend, but she was trying to understand what he was doing here, so it wasn't as enthusiastic as his own smile.

When he stopped hugging her and started speaking again, she shushed him about halfway through, trying to get him to be quiet as she glanced nervously at her bedroom door. She could only imagine what would happen if her mom saw him here. He was talking fast though, and now that she really watched him, he seemed like he was on something. She listened to what he said however, trying to take everything in as he spoke quickly. He then walked over to her bed and dropped his backpack on the floor before flopping down on her bed. Staying where she was and thinking hard for a moment, she finally turned to look at Jay before walking over to him quietly.
"Jay, are you high? And you want to say they released you early or they actually did release you early?" she whispered gently, glancing down at his backpack on the floor that had clinked as he dropped it, than back up at him. "And you've gotta be quieter or my parents are going to wake up." she added as a side note, sitting on the side of her bed next to him and watching him.

She was obviously overwhelmed and didn't quite know how to handle this situation. On one hand, she really had missed Jay, things had been hard when he left. He was her best friend despite how much the rest of the town seemed to hate him and him going away had been hard. People always made fun of her for being the psycho's friend. On the other hand, she didn't know what to think about him being "released". She didn't feel like the hospital would release him in the middle of the night... that just didn't feel right.

Jay sat up on his elbows when she turned to him having a serious look on her face. He didn't expect what she asked him next and he didn't know how to react to it. He wasn't sure if he should just submit and confess to taking drugs, but he didn't think he had become "high" from it. He actually felt more grounded than he had in a very long, long, long time. He also did take a triple dose of a few of the things he picked up not really knowing what they were, but he had guessed based off of what the nurse had been bringing him on a regular basis. After a while of thinking, he just shrugged at both her statements not sure if she actually truly did want to hear an answer from him as it would be as jumbled and messed up as his mind had become from a combination of drugs and electroshock therapy.

"
No I'm not high and yes they really did release me early," Jay lied giving her a shrug like he wasn't sure why she was being so hushed with him or why she had a hard time believing him. He rubbed his face and his eyes once more as if to wipe the tired out of them. He thought about her parents downstairs and sighed loudly not wanting to be quite. He was so jittery as his body was building the energy up in his body before he would crash. "You look really nice by the way. You've changed a lot since you were twelve, but you've become pretty smokin' hot," he told her in a quieter voice, but with that smile on his face again that just wasn't entirely right the more it stayed on his face. It wasn't forced, but it just wasn't a normal smile. What he said he also probably would be hard pressed to not admit that to her, but once again, with the drugs in his system, it was so much easier to admit things to her.

Delaney watched him patiently as she waited for his response to her questions about being high and being released. He seemed to take a really long time to answer, just kind of sitting there thinking. The more she watched him, the more apparent it became to her that he had to be on something. She chewed her lip nervously when he finally responded, shrugging her questions off and saying he wasn't high and he had been released early. She didn't believe it though, not now that she thought about it more. Patients would never be released in the middle of the night and he was just acting odd. Sure, he'd been away for a long time, but she still thought she knew Jay pretty well and this didn't seem like him. Just as she was about to respond, he decided it was a good idea to say she was smokin' hot. She kind of froze up for a moment, a light tint of pink spreading across her cheeks. But then she cleared her throat, excusing his outburst as the drugs talking, before saying
"Jay. You're on something, I can tell. And they wouldn't have released you in the middle of the night." she said carefully and quietly, not wanting to make him mad or anything. If he got loud, they would be screwed. And she didn't want to screw him over.

Even if he had broken out of the hospital, she didn't want him to go back there. She had him back now, even if he was out of his mind at the moment, and she didn't want to lose her friend again. She wanted to help him. He was her friend, she owed him that much. She hadn't ever gone to see him either, which she felt horrible about. Her parents would never let her though and she wasn't really one to go against their word, even if she did hate it.
"I don't want to argue though. You're not in the right mindset. But Jay, you can't stay here, my parents will find you." she said softly, wishing she could give him a place to stay. If her parents found him there in the morning though - which they most likely would, there would be a big problem. And probably a lot of screaming and phone calls and it would just be a big mess.

Jay flopped back on the bed groaning at what she said about him being on something. He put his toe in the loop of the backpack and picked it up to drop it on his chest. "
Now the backpack will hold me down and I won't be high anymore," he responded in a much more serious tone than the giddy tone than it had been only a second ago. It was obvious that his mind had been messed up more than just the drugs. Five years alone being told there was something wrong with him when he knew there wasn't messed him up. Delany was the thing that kept him stable. She was the one that kept him from killing people when they tortured him with their cruel words when he was little. She was the one who kept him from launching those rocks thrown at them like bullets. She was the one who he ran to when they told him he had to go away on an exciting trip. She was one of the last people he saw before he was taken away. Not seeing her for so long put more weight on that fragile line he had between being the good Jay Bird that been put away from the criminal Jail Bird.

He looked at the backpack before him with a much more calm, collected pair of blue eyes as he thought about what she said that he couldn't stay there. He knew that. Her father was the one who threatened to kill him if he ever laid a hand on her again, if he even thought about her. Which, that was impossible. He thought about her whenever he could. But, he didn't want her to pay the consequences of his actions. He picked his back pack up to sit in his lap as he continued to think about a place to stay. There was somewhere down the road that he could squat in for the time being. The plumbing was set up already as it was a house that was on the market. It was perfect. He would just have to steal something the in the morning.

"
Alright, I'll head out. I'll talk to you later when your parents are at work or something," he told her stepping out from under his bag to close the bit that had come open again and sling it over his shoulder to leave her to sleep.

Delaney watched as Jay groaned and grabbed his backpack with his foot, plopping it on his stomach. If it hadn't been for the completely serious way he spoke, she would've have grinned a bit at his comment. He seemed really off, so much different than she remembered him. And she was beginning to think it wasn't just the drugs. What had they done to him in that place? It angered her a bit to think about him being locked up for so long and what they may have done to him there, but she tried not to think about it too much. He was here now and this time she was going to do everything she could to try to keep him safe and help him. She didn't want to let them take him away again.

She was pulled from her thoughts when he spoke again, saying he would find a place to stay that night, standing up and slinging his backpack over his shoulder.
"We have an in-service day at school tomorrow, so I have off. Both my parents will head to work at 8AM though. Come back in the morning, alright?" she said quietly, standing up and hugging him once more. "And be careful, okay?" she mumbled against his shirt before letting him go, tugging at her hair a bit anxiously. She was nervous her parents would find out he was back and something bad would happen, but she cared about Jay and she wanted to help him all that she could. She couldn't let her nerves get the best of her even though she already knew this was going to be difficult. She wasn't the best at keeping secrets, but she'd do it to keep him safe.

Jay nodded at what she told him and hugged her back tangling his finger tips into the back of her shirt slightly just happy he was finally home. No more hospitals. No more doctors. No more electroshock therapy. None of that. Only what he wanted to do from then on. "I will. I'll be back in the morning," he told her making sure she knew that he was there enough to remember such a thing. When she let go of him, he turned to her window and slipped out if giving her a salute then sliding down the terrace.

On the ground, he took off in a dead sprint out of view to a house he found to be for sale--his old house. The place he lived before all the mayhem went down that ruined his life. Feeling eerie, he entered the home anyways to drugged up to care too much about the memories that had happened there. He wondered up stairs to his old room and curled up on the floor finding the place the same color and with the same scents it had been when he was twelve. He fell asleep curled up on the floor shivering from the cold house uncaring that it was cold. He was just finally home.

The morning though wasn't as kind to him as the night had been.

He woke up just after eight unable to sleep for long as he woke up feeling like he was going to throw up everywhere. He got up slowly to head to the bathroom and empty out the acid in his stomach, but he had nothing left in his body. He groaned feeling his head throb with a migraine, he had a high fever from the over dose, his body was shaky, he was weak, and he couldn't remember the last time he felt so out of tune with his powers. He felt like they were barely there, but that at least meant silence for the time being.

After nearly an hour of drinking and throwing up water, he managed to leave the house and walk very slowly back to Delaney's house. It was at about eleven thirty when he showed up at her house. He knocked weakly on the door with his backpack over his shoulder and trying not to keep from dry heaving despite him knowing nothing was going to come up when he did. Jay pulled his hood further over his face as he yawned quietly wanting to hide in the shadows even more than the hood already did. The best thing he could think of at that point was to vanish entirely. Maybe just lop his head off. That would get rid of the headache.

"
H-Hey Delaney," he finally said when the door opened as he stared at her feet feeling too dizzy to look up at her face.

Delaney nodded when Jay said he'd be back in the morning, releasing him and watching as he made his way to the window. She couldn't help but grin a bit when he saluted her and slipped out of her window, disappearing again. She sighed after he left and closed the window quietly behind him before just standing there with her head pressed against the window for a moment, the coolness of the glass feeling nice. She realized then that she was getting herself into quite the situation with Jay. This was going to be really hard for her, but she had already made up her mind, that she was going to help him with whatever he needed. He didn't have anyone else, so she was the only one who would be there for him. This thought made her sad and she backed up from the window, running her hands through her still slightly damp hair. She paced around her room for a little bit before slipping back under her covers in her bed. Burying her head in her pillow, that now smelled slightly like axe, she fell back asleep after a while of just laying there, thinking.

The next morning, she woke up early, her nerves not allowing her to sleep very long. Thankfully, she missed her parents, both being gone for work before she rolled out of bed at 7:30. She woke up brushed out her hair before tying in back in a ponytail and heading downstairs. She decided to make some pancakes for when Jay got there and was just finishing up when she heard a knock at the door. Turning the stovetop off as she flipped the last pancake onto the plate, she hurried to the door and opened it up to see a very sickly looking Jay standing there.
"Jay you look like s**t." she mumbled quietly, letting him inside and shutting the door behind him. She helped him over to the table to sit down and placed some water and a plate of pancakes in front of him, anxiously standing in the kitchen and not sitting down herself. "Can you eat?" she asked carefully, her hazel eyes watching him where he sat. She didn't really know quite what to do, but she wanted him to not look so miserable anymore.

Jay gladly stepped into the house of of the direct sunlight and sat at her table resting his head on it ignoring her comment about how terrible he looked. Of course he looked awful, he took too much of too many different kinds of prescription drugs less than six hours ago and he was already sleep deprived to add to it. He barely looked up when she put the pancakes down in front of him. He looked up at her about her question and he sighed loudly. Very delicately, he sat up and took a piece of a pancake off the stack then very, very slowly ate it. As he did, he slowly sipped at the cool water. When the little piece of pancake was done, he put his head back down on the table and closed his eyes shivering slightly.

"
I don't think I can eat anymore. I'm surprised I can keep that down," he told her in a whisper praying he didn't just jinx himself and was going to throw up now. "How are you doing, this morning? Right?" he asked her trying to have a conversation to catch up with her while he was extremely sick from the stupid decisions he had made the night before in an attempt to escape his pain. He was going to have to be more careful about what he took from then on and take less of it--even if it would take longer to activate in turn.

Delaney watched as Jay stepped inside, making his way over to her table and putting his head down. She couldn't help but feel sorry for him, he looked like he felt absolutely terrible. After another minute or so of pacing, she finally sat down in the seat across the table from him, watching as he slowly ate a piece of one of the pancakes. She didn't even get a plate or anything for herself, not exactly very hungry at the moment. She just thought he might be. She nodded hearing that he might throw up, chewing her lip gently.
"Alright, well if you need anything, just let me know. And if you want to sleep, you can use my bed. You look like you haven't slept in a while." she said gently, her hazel eyes watching him.

When he asked how she was doing this morning, she shrugged a little, saying
"Honestly, I'm a little shocked you're back. And nervous." she said, remembering that he never believed anything she said that wasn't the truth. She was a bad liar but when it came to him she couldn't ever get anything past him. So she just came right out and told him what she was feeling. He'd figure it out eventually anyways. "You should really try to sleep though, maybe you'll feel a little better with more sleep?" she offered again, wanting to make him feel better.

Jay looked up at her and nodded at her observation that it didn't look like he had slept in a while. He had been sleeping, but it was more like one hour naps per day. Or if they were longer than an hour, they were usually an induced sleep by some type of sedative. He really just wanted to get some good sleep that was from him just falling asleep. He looked back to her with his dull blue eyes when she mentioned that she was shocked he was back and nervous. Once again, he nodded understanding where she came from. He wasn't exactly stable at the moment and had ran away from the mental hospital. That was never a good thing no mater what it was for. If he caught, he was going to be drugged out of his mind everyday just to make sure he stayed there and didn't have the brain capacity to think of an escape again.

"
I would love to barrow your bed. Why are you so nervous though? You parents hating me?" he asked slowly getting up and leaving his food and drink on the table. He walked at a very slow pace up to Delaney's room where he found her bed to lay down on. He took his shoes off, left his bag on the floor, and curled up fully clothed under all his blankets with his face nuzzled into her pillow. "Thanks, I owe you a ton..." he muttered looking up at her from where he lay sweating and shivering in her bed.

Delaney watched as he nodded about not getting enough sleep, sighing gently. She knew it hadn't just been the drugs or being away for so long that had made him look like such a wreck last night. He obviously wasn't getting nearly enough sleep either. She wondered if that was because of what he could do - the mind reading and all. She knew that had kept him awake before, so she assumed that might have been part of what was plaguing him while he was in the hospital. She was glad he couldn't read her mind - although she didn't really understand why - because she'd been running scenarios through her head of how this could go down since he had gotten to her house and she didn't really think it was going to turn out well. Someone was going to find him and try to send him back, and when that happened, she didn't know what she was going to do.

When he asked why she was so nervous and about her parents after accepting her offer to sleep, she shrugged a little bit, combing her fingers through her long ponytail.
"You know my parents have never really liked you. It only really got worse once they sent you away. So I'm just worried about what will happen if they find out you're here." she said gently, standing up as he stood. She walked beside him as they made their way upstairs, wanting to make sure she was there to support him if he stumbled at all. He looked weak, she didn't want him hurting himself. When they made it upstairs, she watched as he slipped off his shoes and flopped into her bed, cuddling the blankets around himself. She smiled softly when he thanked her, nuzzling his head into her pillow. "No problem, just get some sleep, alright?" she said quietly, glancing at him than down at his bag. A thought crossed her mind, but she ignored it for now, flipping the light off and closing the door all but a crack behind her.

She then headed downstairs, chewing her lip a bit as the thought of looking through his bag crossed her mind again. She just wanted to know what he had been on last night so she could help. She didn't know a lot about different types of medicines or anything, but she wanted to make sure he wasn't going to overdose or anything crazy. Sitting back down at the kitchen table, she served herself a few pancakes and buttered them, cutting them up and putting syrup on them. As she finally ate her breakfast, she decided on going through his bag. Just to make sure that she knew what he was on and what exactly was going on. She also assumed he'd have some sort of check out slip or forms if he had actually been legally released from the hospital. Although she would love to believe him, she highly doubted he had been telling the truth about that. Finishing off her pancakes, she put the rest in the ziploc bag and put it in the fridge before washing off her plate. Deciding at that point that she had waited long enough, she tiptoed her way back upstairs to her room.

Pushing the door open just enough so that she could slip through, she saw Jay was asleep, thankfully, and tiptoed her way over to the bed where he was sleeping. She carefully leaned down and picked up the bag, cringing a bit as it clinked around noisily. Glancing at Jay and seeing he was still fast asleep, she carefully and as quietly as possible snuck back out of the bedroom with his backpack. She headed down the hallway a bit and into her dad's office next to her bedroom, flipping on the light and dumping out the contents of the backpack on the floor. She bit her lip hard seeing the assortment of pills that spilled out of his bag. It looked like he had robbed a drug store. He had some pretty normal things in his backpack too, like his assortment of Cold Steel Axe products and a few miscellaneous things. No release papers from the hospital though. And a lot of pills. Putting everything but the pills back in the bag, she grabbed paper and pen from her dad's desk and wrote a list of all the different kinds of medicines Jay had in this bag. Once she was done this, she put the bottles back in too. Once everything was back in place, she carefully tiptoed back into her bedroom and replaced the bag soundlessly. She then headed back into her dad's office, where she used the computer there to start searching all the different pill names and what they were for or what they did. She needed to have an understanding of what he was taking so she could help. And maybe try to get him to stop taking so many.
