She’d been gone for a while. Nearly a few Octobers…Hel had been pretty sure she had mentioned it, at least in passing, to her sister that she’d be gone for that long. Pretty certain…okay, maybe not quite. Hopefully Freya had been too preoccupied with her boil toy to pay too much attention. Regardless, now back, showered, and well rested after her little journey, Hel was ready to show off the fruits of her labor to her sister.
Thus, with her leather portfolio tucked under her arm, she raised a fist and banged on her sister’s door.

Hel had mentioned she was leaving, but her reasons were still a mystery to her sister. Nonetheless, Freya wasn't stupid enough to try and pry when it came to what her sister had planned. Besides, she'd been gone for a while herself, though not nearly as long as Hel. So when the door was knocked on, and Freya opened it to see her sister for the first time in many months, she squealed with such delight a glass shattered somewhere inside.
"HEL! YEHR BACK!" She reached out and grabbed her sister, pulling her into a fierce hug and swinging back and forth within it. "Oh, I missed yeh, I missed yeh! Is so good teh sees yehr beautiful face again, crumpet!" Freya took steps backward, pulling Hel inside whether she wanted to come in or not.

“Hello sis—“ Then she was grabbed, and really, Hel should have been prepared for that, but she was rather concerned about her leather portfolio right now. “ACK!” The reaper cried, both arms now holding the portfolio securely as her sister hugged her tightly and swung her around before pulling her inside.
“Oi, CAREFUL!” She wailed. Not about her though, about her portfolio. “I have very important articles here! They can not be crushed, you she-beast!” Yes, sisterly love of the Brynhildr kind.

Freya laughed a hearty, loud laugh, and turned Hel around so she could hug her freely without crushing whatever important nonsense she'd brought with her. She tried to pick the ghoul up, but Freya was still not back to her old self enough yet, and her arms were flimsy; not strong enough for a lift. She ended up just shaking her sister a little.
"Yehr an important article!" Was that a compliment, or a teasing insult? It was hard to say, as Freya's laughter hid all inflections. She led the ghoul over to the couch, and then finally let go, choosing to flop on the floor and look up at her sister with adoration.
"So tells me whatchyeh brings! Where'd yeh go! What'd yeh do! How come yeh didn't texts me! What's in the folder? Is it a present? Did yeh brings me a present? How far did yeh goes? Tell me already!!!"

Hel was not impressed by the fact that Freya couldn’t pick her up still…but hey, couldn’t be too picky right now, right?
The reaper couldn’t help but grin at the ghoul’s tease, and then laughed. “Why yes I am!” She replied, owning up to it. Once by the couch, she joined her sister on the floor, and worked on opening up her portfolio, a brow raised as her sister rapidly fired off questions. “Well…I will show you what I brought…but…as for all the other things…? I went everywhere. I was looking at property! I did not text you because I did not bring my phone—“ Because Hel hated the thing, really “—and because you always b***h about not having a texting plan! There is no present for you in this folder, and I went really far!”
She finally got her documents out, and she gingerly laid them before her sister. “I own this proud piece of property now.” She announced proudly, her expression rather accomplished and delighted as she pointed at a packet containing pictures of the land as well. “This is where I am going to build my home.”

"WHAAAAAAAAAAAT!?"
Freya got up on her knees, and started looking through the packet, her hands shaking as she stared at the pictures. "Is that really what yeh did! By the gods Hel, this is so.. so.. adult!" She picked up one picture and just stared at it. "I can't believe yeh owns land now. Papa will be so proud! My biggest accomplishment is not failings math!" She pouted, clearly saddened by how outshined she was, but it was too big of a deal for her to be sad for long. "When did yeh decides teh goes and looks for land! And WHY DIDN'T YEH BRINGS ME A PRESENT!"
That, that was the true crime.

Hel just grinned smugly at Freya’s outburst, and now took to leaning back on her hands as she stared at her sister. She outright laughed again at the adult comment. “Ya, you would not know anything about being adult.” She teased. “Well…obviously I thought about it more than two Octobers go…actually, it was a bit further than that…I knew I always wanted my own cottage…and then I had Mac help me look up land to go and look at on the interwebs…” She trailed off, and then laughed again.
“Oh, keep your panties on!” She replied, and reached into the pocket of her apron. “I got you a present!” She replied, and then pulled out a rectangular box. She then tossed it at her sister.
A box of saltwater taffy scented prot charms.

Freya could have taken that as an insult. She really could have - but the fact was, she agreed. Despite being the older of the two, and edging towards the end of her teen years already, Freya felt more and more like a child than she'd ever felt in her life. When she was younger, she'd been so sure of herself. She thought she'd been so mature. Now, she just felt like a blind person stumbling around a room filled with sharp objects.
She lifted a finger to mention that Hel knew she didn't wear such silly things, but instead she got hit in the face with a box, and her words died in her throat. She picked it up, and her eyes lit up with excitement when she read the words Salt Water Taffy..
...
And then she read the rest, and her entire face lit up with excitement.
"COOOOOOOOOOOL. Wait until Kettil sees these!"

Hel couldn’t help but roll her eyes as her sister seemed…excited over the prot charms. “No, stupid!” She called out, and then reached into her other apron pocket. “That is not really your real present.” She pulled out another rectangular box, though this one was plain. She tossed it at her sister and waited. Inside the box was this.

No? For a second, when Hel admonished her for thinking this was her real present, Freya thought the box was empty. Her good mood crashed and she started ripping into it, determined to find out whether or not there actually were taffy flavored prot charms in there or not. If Hel used them all on her trip she was going to be SO PISSED - The second box fell against her arm, and Freya stopped ripping into the taffy prot charms to pick it up. "Oh. I gets two things?" Hel was the best sister ever. She assumed this was going to be a gag gift too, but it was already obvious she loved gag gifts, so she wasn't worried when she opened the box. A few seconds of silence fell when Freya picked up the necklace, holding the charm delicately in the palm of her hand. It was breathtakingly beautiful, and this, above all things, Freya was not prepared for. She looked up at her sister, questions filling her eyes, before the tears flooded them out. And then she bawled like a little baby. "YEH DUU LOVES ME-EE-EEE.."

Hel just kept her spot on the floor, a brow raised as she watched Freya just rip into the salt water taffy prot charms, and then finally open the other box. Hel idly rocked her feet back and forth, tilting her head from side to side as well as she waited for her sister’s verdict and well…she was rather surprised. Especially when her sister started crying. “…Whu…what!?” She choked. “Are you crying? Seriously? Candlejack, Freya, cut it out! It is just a necklace, sheesh! Nothing to cry about, you big baby!” Seriously, all the sisterly love right there. She then snorted. “Well of course I love you, why would I not? Now dry it up or I am leaving!”

There was a time, not so very long ago, when the sight of Freya crying was uncommon, even rare.. but those days had long, long past. Now, she was a big baby, and her sister had touched her squishy little heart with her gift. She tried to stop being so noisy about it, and rubbed her eyes to get all of the unshed tears out, but when she looked up at her sister she was still pretty much a mess. "I just.. you just.. and we just.." She sniffed, hard, and sobered up. "I loves it. Okays. And I loves yeh. So shuts up." There. Freya was back to her old self, again. She put the pendant on, quickly, and pressed it against her collarbone, her fingers touching it softly. "So. Land. Yeh gots yehr whole life set out ahead of yeh. That's really excitings, this is big news for yeh. I don't has anything really good teh trades yeh for it. Except.."

Hel just stared at her sister, and then shrugged. Oddly enough, she got it with that whole ‘we just’ thing. Sisterly bonds. She snorted when her sister told her to shut up. “No, you.” She replied, and watched as Freya put the necklace on, smiling a bit. It looked good…but that wasn’t why she got it…it just really reminded her of Freya, that was all. “…Got my whole life set out before me…?” She echoed, and idly rolled her shoulders. “…Nah. Not really. I just now own a property to run my crazy a**, that is all. I do not have anything else planned further than that.” She tilted her head as her sister trailed off with ‘except’. “…Except…what?” She asked, curiosity piqued.

Freya gave her sister an innocent look, which meant there was nothing innocent about what she was about to say, and shrugged. "I means, I guess it's important, sort of. Not really. Kettil just asked me to marry him, is all." Freya got up from where she was sitting, and walked over to her kitchen area. "Are yeh thirsty? I can gets yeh something, I has water, lemonade, cruel aid.."

Hel was immediately alert, her posture straightening, because she knew what that innocent look meant. Something big was about to be dropped. Well…it was dropped. The younger valkyrie looked like she was slapped, as she startled and her eyes went wide. Woah wait… marriage. Freya? Kettil? No…wait…Freya pulled her leg once before, during Scarentine’s one year. The reaper made a sour face now. “Oh ya?” She echoed. “ Prove it.” She called out. “You made a fool of me once by lying about being engaged.”
