User Image Itzal was a bit bored. He'd run out of interesting philosophies to inspect around his home, and had aimlessly started traveling northward in search of something more intriguing than the extremely violent mentalities and the ignorant, blind hatred towards humans that he was surrounded by. They just weren't interesting. And unfortunately, there weren't many Azrien around, and none that stood out to him. Except...

There. The bright pink and white stood out against the brown of the surroundings. Maybe she'd have an interesting personality.

User ImageOssa stood out in the middle of... nowhere really. She was watching the birds flying above. She wondered how much rice they'd have to eat before they exploded. How many bones did a bird have? How tiny were their innards? If she had wings, she'd fly up to catch one herself and experiment, but alas, she could not. A slight breeze caught her multi-hued mane and tail and pulled at a few tendrils. "Some other time then, bird." Her voice was low and monotone.

She was speaking to the birds? How peculiar. "Some other time for what?" Itzal inquired aloud as he approached from her blind spot. He didn't know what else to say to the mare; he was a philosopher, not a flirt or social butterfly. He was best at inquiry, not small talk. Hopefully this particular mare was irregular and didn't mind his odd questions.

Ossa slowly turned her head towards the newcomer. If he was interesting, she cared not. She cared for little, really. She just sort of, existed. She was not a depressed Azrein, just a very dispassionate one with a curious mind. Although, her curiosity was usually of things that would disgust others. "I was telling it that I would have to look at it's insides another time. I've never seen what a bird looks like inside."

"Ah. I see." Itzal thought for a moment before replying. "You could always find a nest and find out by looking at the hatchlings inside, since they can't fly away." Yes, she was definitely interesting. "What are some other things you wish to do? Besides looking at the insides of birds, that is." This unenthusiastic mare had piqued his interest.

"That is a wonderful idea." she commented before considering his question. "Eyes. I do love eyes. I tried to collect some once, but they just aren't as lovely floating around in glass jars as when they are in the owner's head. I'd also like to examine something that's been struck by lightning. Is it all cooked and crispy inside? Have you ever seen it?" she asked the stallion, curious about what he had to say on the matter.

"Hmm? Well, yes, I do suppose that they'd be a little less flashy when not attached to the owner... Some believe that eyes are the window to the soul. With that philosophy, taking the window away from the soul would make it less bright." Lightning? Itzal thought for a moment. "I can't say I have. I've seen something struck by lightning, but I never looked on the inside. The outside was charred... Hm. That is an interesting question." Maybe that could be a future experiment for him. His expertise was with philosophy, but...

If the mare knew how to smile, she probably would at the stallion's words. Instead, she nodded her head. "This is true. I'm told my eyes are rather dull. I don't really care what that means though." Ossa was rather oblivious that other Azrein would consider her dull and unusual. All she thought, or knew, was that other Azrein seemed to avoid being around her after she spoke so few words.

Itzal cocked his head slightly to the side as he thought, inspecting her eyes. "Hm. I think your eyes are intriguing because they are not as bright. I wonder if it's possible to obscure the window to the soul..." A fog around the soul, in a sense. It was fascinating to think about.

"Maybe I just don't have a soul." The mare thought aloud. The idea didn't bother her in the least bit. Then she in turn examined the stallion's orbs. "Your eyes are kind of... bright. You must have a soul in there somewhere. They don't belong in a jar."

"I think you have a soul. Otherwise your eyes wouldn't have any light in them at all." Itzal blinked, the smallest of smiles forming on his face. "I'm glad you think so. I'd rather keep my eyes in their sockets than place them in a jar."

Ossa pondered the idea of a soul for moment before speaking. "What is a soul anyways? Where did the idea come from? What's to say that when we die, we just cease to be. There is no soul that floats away to be with other souls. There's just, nothing left but your bones."

Itzal thought for only a moment before replying. "Well, if that were the case, I don't think there could be undead Azrien. If the soul ceased to exist, then there would be nothing to inhabit the previously vacated body. As for what it is... I think the soul is the essence of being." He pondered the other question. "I am... unsure of where the idea came from. It's a very old concept."
