Charlotte and Lynette grew up in a loving home. But something was about to happen to the sisters that would change their lives forever. While Charlotte had discovered that she had certain gifts a year ago, though thankfully they were easy to keep hidden. Her sister, however, was not going to be so lucky.

The wind blew soft and cold as Charlotte trekked through the pines. Her sister was around here somewhere - for now, she was enjoying the quiet of the woods. She tended to prefer being outside as opposed to cooped up in the house, and their parents tended to give the girls free reign of their property so long as they were together. Truth be told, it was the natural state of things anyways. While Charlotte never let anyone in her family forget that they were two different people, she genuinely enjoyed her sister's company and would never let anything happen to her.

"Harvey. Come here, Harvey," she called out, listening for her companion to come running as he always did at her call. The black mouth cur barked in reply, bounding through the snow towards her. Her face lit up as he approached, smiling from ear to ear. He'd been her birthday present years ago, when she wanted to go hunting with her father. Her dad had gotten Harvey for her to be trained as a hunting dog, and they had started that process, but really he had just become a constant companion. They were almost as inseparable as her and Lyn.

Falling to her knees in the snow, she ran her gloved hands over the dog's head, resting her forehead against the dog's snout for a moment as he licked her face. His nose was wet and cold - she loved it. "What do you say we go find Lyn, huh boy? Better make sure she's not getting herself into too much trouble." Getting to her feet once more, she dusted the white powder from her legs with a satisfied smile, following the dog with her eyes as he made a wide lap around her through the snow before taking off through the trees once more. Sloshing through the snow in her boots made her significantly slower of foot than she normally was, though Harvey did his best not to lose her. Sometimes she could swear he was almost human.

It didn't take her long to spy her sister through the trees, seemingly lost in her own little world as was typical for her. Her steps became quieter as she approached the girl from behind, breaking into a run when she was close enough and practically tackling the girl from behind down into the snow. "Gotcha," she yelled as the two sprawled out into the snow, a hearty laugh escaping her as she rolled off her twin, laying on her back on the ground next to her. Harvey seized the opportunity to jump between them, licking Lynette's face happily as Charlotte reached over to scratch the dog's belly.

"I think I'm going to see if dad wants to take me hunting tomorrow, if you want to come. Winter break's almost over and we've only been out once! How is my Harvey ever going to become a top notch hunting dog if he doesn't get any practice?" Rolling into her side, her arms engulfed the dog, whose head arched back to nuzzle against her head. She propped herself up on an elbow, snow stuck in her long red curls, as her blue gaze turned to her identical twin, smile still tugging at the corners of her mouth. Harvey jumped to his feet, sending a spray of snow over the two. Charlotte rubbing some snow from her eyes as she also got to her feet, offering a hand to Lynette to help her up as well.

"What had you so deep in thought, anyways? We're still on winter break - nothing so serious should be going through that pretty little brain of yours." Pulling the girl to her feet, she wrapped an affectionate arm around her sister, pulling her in close as the two trudged through the snow in a random direction of her choice. Harvey was quick to follow, lapping them as he tore through the snow with seemingly boundless energy. He really never seemed to slow down. In that way, he reminded her of Lynette, though she'd never say anything to her about it. Comparing her sister to her dog was one sure fire way to get a snowball down the back of her shirt. Charlotte was smarter than that.

Lynette sucked in a cold breath, holding her arms out to keep balance as she trekked through the forest. The snow crunched underneath her boots with every step she took, leaving a noticeable trail of boot imprints behind her. She'd wandered much further than she intended, leaving her sister behind with Harvey, her sister's dog. They'd been enjoying their winter break from school, but they didn't do much besides stay home. It was safe to say that the twins had developed a case of cabin fever, as Lynette didn't have to say much to get Charlotte to join her in the snow outside. Today, Lynette dared to venture out farther into the cluster of pines and snow than she usually did by herself, nearly falling face first into the snow a few times as she dashed through the fallen snow. How she was able to keep herself from falling while wearing her cumbersome boots was a mystery.

She slowed her steps as she rubbed her hands together, a cold wind chilling her. Despite how bundled up one was, you could never seem to stop the occasional cold chill. She breathed a hot breath into her gloved hands, a modest attempt to keep herself warm.

Suddenly, it happened. For the briefest of moments, Lynette felt her body heat up from head to toe, and it almost felt like she was wearing far too much during a hot day, despite the cold snow piled around her convincing her otherwise. She froze in place as she felt he face flush with heat, the urge to remove her gloves rising exponentially. But just as quickly as her heat appeared, it died down, again leaving her to feel the cold wind again.

Lynette looked down at her hands, then the rest of her body. Whoa, what was that? she thought, wonder replacing the small sensation of fear she felt. She stayed standing there for a while, waiting for it to happen again. She wasn't sick at all, so she couldn't have caught something so fast.

She didn't have much time to ponder as she heard the sound of snow crunching behind her rapidly, unable to turn in time as she was tackled into the snow from behind.

"Gotcha!"

The familiar voice brought a smile to her face as lay sprawled on her stomach, before turning over and tossing some snow at her sister and laughing as well. Harvey jumped into the fun and licked at her face, Lynette attempted to turn her head away from the affectionate dog. "Eww, Harvey! I don't know what you've been licking!" she said playfully, her hands coming up to try and cover her face.

Charlotte brought up going hunting tomorrow with their father, before looking back to Lyn, a smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. "I don't know about hunting, but I'll tag along. Harvey's doing fine, anyways! You would've gotten lost out here without him, I bet!" she said teasingly, able to pull the dog away from her long enough to say a few words. He bounded away from them, the snow kicked up from his paws landing on the twins. Lyn shook some of the snow off her head, laughing again. Charlotte offered a hand to help her up, and asked what she was thinking about.

The younger twin cocked her head to the side, pondering the question for a moment. The mysterious flash of heat from before did worry her, but she didn't want Charlotte to start worrying as well. She flashed a pretty smile to her sister, accepting her outstretched arm to help her up. "Oh, nothing! Just taking a little break from running around. I don't run on sunshine, ya know!" she said, shaking the snow on her body off. Charlotte's internal comparison of Lynette to Harvey wasn't too far off, it seemed. A snowball down her sister's shirt was still in the future though.

The twins marched through the snow together, Lynette's arm mimicking Charlotte's as it wrapped around her. Harvey took off ahead of them, his canine energy keeping him energetic enough to leave the sisters behind.

"Hey, Charlie-" Lyn spoke up, keeping her eyes ahead of them. "-you know how to get back from here, right?" The tone in her voice became a bit nervous, the sheepish look in her blue eyes apparent as she turned to her sister. "I, uh, wasn't paying attention while I was running."

She chuckled nervously, the feeling of the cold wind once again reminding her that getting lost out here was not a smart thing to risk.

The Gauge twins had decided that today was a day best spent outdoors, despite the snow and cold. At some point, they had gotten separated from one another, though it didn't cause either of them too much panic. Charlotte, at least, wasn't too worried, though after a time by herself, her dog Harvey bounded off into the snow at her command to track Lynnette down.

Once she found her sister, the older twin rushed through the snow, tackling the girl from behind with a laugh. They both lay sprawled out across the snow, red curls like fire against a backdrop of ice. A small scream emitted from her as she felt the cold of some snow thrown in her direction, courtesy of her sister. Before she knew what was really happening, Harvey sprang between then, lavishing Lyn with doggie kisses that the girl didn't seem as pleased to to be receiving. "Don't be mean to Harvey! He's a good, clean dog! He just wants to show you some affection." Her lips pouted as she reached over and wrapped her arms around the canine, drawing him close to her in a tight hug.

Still in the snow, she mentioned going hunting with their father the next day, wanting Lyn to know that she was welcome to join them if she wanted to. Lyn smiled at her, stating that she'd tag along even if she didn't do any hunting of her own. What made her laugh was the reassurance that she had been doing fine training Harvey to be a hunting dog, giving a playful shove at the insinuation that she would have been lost if not for the dog.

"I happen to have an excellent sense of direction. Remember that time we walked over to the Collins' house? You were the one that told us to make a right, instead of a left. And when I finally stopped following your directions, we got there just fine." She stuck her tongue out playfully, clearly joking despite her accusatory tone, as she reached over to tickle the girl roughly in the sides.

Harvey sprang back to his feet, showering the twins with snow which caused a new fit of giggles to take them. Charlotte got to her feet, shaking the snow from her frame before offering a hand down to her younger sister to help her up as well, which was accepted.

Asking what the girl had been thinking about, she returned the smile that played across Lyn's lips, nodding at the assurance that it was nothing that she had to be concerned about. The notion that her sister "ran on sunshine" was hysterical, because she was always so perky and excitable. "Whatever you say, little sister. I'm still not convinced rainbows and sunshine aren't your main source of fuel. It's really the only think that makes sense." A devilish grin played across her features as she wrapped an arm around her sister, the two making their slow way through the snow. A few minutes later, she turned her attentions to her sister when the girl asked if she knew how to get back from where they were now.

"Gee, I don't know. I'm lost without my Harvey, remember?" Her sarcasm was palpable, immediately breaking into a fit of giggles before sending a soft bump into Lyn's hip with her own, the girls stumbling a step or two to the side. "Of course I do! One of us has to be responsible." Winking at her sister, she tugged her to the right, the direction of home. They had wandered out a bit further than they meant to, but it would be a pleasant enough walk back home. It helped that the dog bounded happily in front of them, even though he looped them around the same patch of trees a few times.

Charlie's shove, along with her rebuttal of being the more navigation savvy of the two, earned a stuck out tongue from the younger twin. "Oh, come on! You ever try finding a house on an empty stomach? Im-poss-ible." she drawled out, waving her hand dismissively. The trip to the Collins' was one that really was her fault...but far be it from her to admit defeat so easily.

Lyn yelped out as Charlie tickled her sides a little too roughly, a fit of giggles escaping from her. "Gah! A-all right, all right! You're a real Columbus!" she squeaked out, trying to defend herself in vain from her sister's assault. She didn't like being tickled like that, and it assured that Charlotte would find snow down her shirt before they got back home.

As Harvey sprang to his feet (and sprayed the Gauge twins in snow in the process), Charlie helped Lyn up as the younger sister explained her momentary pause as a quick break, covering up her suspicious temperature raise. Thankfully, her sister seemed to buy her excuse, while insisting that sunshine was her fuel. "No way! Well...maybe? I don't know!" Lyn said, seeming to confuse herself for a moment.

The twins hugged each other as they began their march back, the warmth Lyn felt from her sister making her more than happy to stay close. Of course, after a few moments of wandering, Lynette admitted that she didn't know the way back, citing her lack of focus while exploring by herself. Luckily for her, Charlotte played her 'responsible big-sister' role well, and assured Lyn that she knew where she was going. Lyn nearly lost her balance from her sister's hip bump, but let out a relaxed breath, sounding a little too relieved. But as Charlotte began to pull her in the correct direction, the younger sister felt her face flush in heat, and felt as though something inside of her was beginning to boil hot.

I-I can't be sick! What's going on?! she thought, her eyes widening as her gaze lowered to the white snow. It felt like there was a candle in her very core, and body's internal temperature contrasting harshly with the cold air outside her body, and it was only getting hotter. If this kept up, Charlotte would likely notice her sister beginning to feel like a toasty fireplace.

Worried, she pulled away from her sister, stopping in her tracks. "Uh, hold on Charlie. I gotta, uh..." she said, taking a few steps back from her. She had figure out what was going on, and quick, before Charlie starting probing her. Suddenly, she got an idea, and buckled her knees together, making a very telltale pose. "I gotta pee real bad! Be right back!" she said hurriedly, before turning and running off.

She didn't run far, making sure she that she was within earshot of Charlotte as she crawled through a thick set of bushes, the foliage breaking her line of sight with her sister. If she needed to, she could simply yell to let her know where she was.

As she knelt down in the snow, she became very aware of the sweat running down the sides of her face. What was surprising was that it wasn't due to running, but because she was sweating from the heat she felt. She nearly started removing her jacket, but decided it was but unwise to do so, even if she felt hot. She could simply be experiencing a simple fever.

Lyn took steady breaths as she removed one glove and let her naked hand feel her face, getting worrying feedback from her skin. She felt burning, and she was reminded of a glowing ember. And she was only getting hotter. She closed her eyes as she tried to calm herself down, oblivious to the cold air around her.

The sounding of crunching snow rapidly approaching her startled her, and she nearly protested to whomever was approaching, when Harvey bound through the bushes and crashed into her, sending them both crashing into the snow. He licked at her face as she relaxed, noticing it wasn't Charlotte. "Jeez, Harvey, give a girl a little privacy, yeah?" he said to her, sitting up and pushing the dog off her. Her tone was teasing, but Harvey still cocked his head to the side, before sitting on his haunches. "Besides, if you're here, how's Char supposed to not get lost?"

Miraculously, her temperature began to regulate again, and she sighed in relief. She looked to Harvey, whose tail wagged at the attention. A smile broke out from the teen, and she held up a finger to the dog on her ungloved hand. "Not a word to big sis, okay?" she said, before scooting forward and hugging the dog.

Charlotte playfully shoved her sister in the snow when she insinuated that the elder Gauge twin had no real sense of direction, laughing as Lyn stuck her tongue out. She made a snatch for it, She drawled out how impossible it was to find a house on an empty stomach, causing blue eyes to roll heavenward, "But, you're always complaining about running on an empty stomach." It was clear that she was teasing, a notion solidified when she reached over and tickled her sister roughly in the ribs. Eventually, she got the confirmation that she was looking for, laying back with a laugh as her sister backtracked from her previous statement. The tickling as unfair, she would admit, though she had a feeling her sister would find a way to get back at her later. She'd spend the rest of the day on edge.

Harvey sprang to his feet, showering the girls in snow, which caused Charlotte to get to her feet as well. She was at least considerate enough to offer her sister a hand up, asking what exactly she had been doing here all pensive and alone. She joked back that rainbows and sunshine were the only logical source of her energy, a notion that Lyn denied, then just seemed confused about. Charlotte simply shook her head, wrapping an arm around her sister as the pair trudged through the snow back towards home.

It didn't take long for Lyn to admit that she had no idea where they were going, the elder sister all too happy to throw her earlier comment about Harvey back in the girl's face. She couldn't help but giggle, however, bumping hips to send both girls staggering a few steps to the side. It was all in good fun, however, as she steered them in the right direction. They didn't get very far, though. Lyn suddenly stopped, breaking away from Charlotte, who was left with a mixture of concern and confusion across her face. "Lyn, what's-" she started, only to have the younger twin start doing the pee-pee dance, exclaim that she had to pee and take off into the woods.

There was an odd duck in every family.

"This is why I told you to go before we left the house," she called off after the girl in a motherly tone, who disappeared through a tangle of brush. Her arms crossed over her chest, looking down at Harvey who whined in Lyn's direction before sitting down in the snow. A few seconds passed and a soft sigh escaped her before she looked down to the dog on her right. "Alright, boy, go find Lyn. Go get her and make sure she's alright." The dog didn't need to be told twice, taking off through the snow with a loud bark. He disappeared through the same batch of bushes that her sister had moments before, leaving the blue-eyed beauty alone in the snow.

Something was going on here - her "twin sense" was tingling. Maybe it was just because she was the older of the two, but she could usually tell when her younger counterpart was trying to hide something from her. She was thankful that her sister didn't seem to share the same trait.

It hadn't been too much earlier that Charlotte realized that there was something special about her, particularly her sight. She'd heard about mutants before, seen stories about them in the news, but she never thought that she would be one. When Lyn didn't seem to be showing any of the similar signs, she assumed that she would be the only one, and had simply managed to hide her abilities for this long. After all, if twins were going to be mutants, wouldn't you think that they would develop their powers at the same time? It had just been a blessing that she had an ability that was easily managed and easily hidden from her family. As much as she hated the thought of lying to them, it seemed necessary.

After a few minutes, and still no sign of Lyn or Harvey, Charlotte let out an exasperated sigh, setting off after her sister's tracks. "Lynnie, pull 'em up, let's get a move on," she called out, at least trying to give her sister time to make herself decent before being walked in on. Eventually she found the girl, one glove off, and shushing her dog.

"Did I…what are you doing?"

Lyn may not have run on sunshine and sparkles, but it was also likely that her boundless energy helped her run through food like crazy sometimes. Charlotte seemed to suspect this, her teasing comment about Lyn always being on an empty stomach not entirely untrue. Then again, Charlotte had a craving for barbequed meals that almost matched Lyn's overall hunger. When their father prepared any sort of barbeque, the twins themselves went through an impressive (sometimes frightening, depending on just how hungry they were) amount of food just by themselves.

Her sister's tickling antics earning a target on her back ripe for a dropped snowball, the girls trudged together through the snow with Charlotte's dog, Harvey, following close behind. Charlotte even saved the two from being lost, with Lyn's admittance of not knowing where home being put out in the open. Her sister led them into the right direction, but it wasn't long before Lyn felt her body flare up with heat, just like before. She broke away from her sister, fearful of worrying her with her rising heat, and quickly trying to think of something to say. Fortunately, her 'potty break' excuse seemed to work flawlessly, her sister berating Lyn as she tore through some bushes to hide. "But I didn't need to gooo~!" she said, her whining tone drawing out the last syllable. It was a convincing act, apparently, as she was left alone for a while.

Closing her eyes and attempting to dispel the heat seemed to work at first, but as she opened her eyes and looked at her hand, the younger twin was able to make out something that truly frightened her: she could see waves of steam rising off her hand, the heat ways bending the air around it. Shocked, Lyn buried her hand in the snow, logic completely buried by her fear. It did little to help, though, as the very high difference of temperature between her hand and the snow caused something that felt less like cold and more like stinging pain resonate up her arm. She pulled out her hand from the snow just as fast as she put it in. It didn't help that her hand was now slightly wet, metled snow leaving a noticable imprint of her hand in the ground.

Even as her heat began to die down, the sensation of her skin burning and seeing the snow react to her bare touch froze Lyn. She'd never seen anything like this before. Was she really so sick that her skin was radiating intense heat? What would cause something like this?

She didn't ponder much before Harvey bound through the bushes and knocked her over, the shock of her previous discovery beginning to fade away. A little later, Charlotte called out for her, alarming the younger twin again. Harvey reacted to her owner's voice with a wagging tail and a head turn towards the direction of Charlotte's voice. Lyn grabbed the dog by the sides of the head, the dog halting as she turned his head to face her. A small moment passed, before Lyn scrunched the dog's face together lovingly. "Remember: not a word."

Charlotte appeared through the bushes, already beginning to speak when she caught sight of her dog and Lyn, then questioning her. Lyn almost spoke before she stopped herself, looked behind her to see the imprint of her hand in the snow, and scooted behind her to sit down right over the imprint, smothering any evidence. "Uh...having a post-bathroom seat with Harvey?" she said reluctantly, the dog wagging his tail at the mention of his name.

She planted herself deeper in the snow, hesitant to fully stand at the moment. Whatever her heat problem was, she was afraid for it to flare up again. If Charlotte found out, they'd be rushed home...and they could forget doing anything else for the rest of break, considering how their mother worried about either of them getting sick.

Lyn rocked a bit in her seat, attempting to fill the air with idle chatter to try and erase any suspicion Charlotte may have gathered. "Don't you just love the snow? Once we get home, I'll get Mom to make us some hot chocolate, then I could probably convince Dad to cook us something nice and hot. Yay, spoiled twins!" she stated, pumping her gloved hand into the air. Her ungloved hand found her way behind her back, frantically pawing for the glove she cast aside. She was unaware that she was also sitting on the glove.

Charlotte, Lynette and Harvey sloshed through the snow as they headed towards the girls' house, the older twin tickling her younger sister playfully in the ribs. No doubt, she would pay for it later, but it was worth it for now. She took it upon herself to lead them in the right direction, a look of confusion spreading across her features when Lyn suddenly announced that she had to pee right then and there. The whine in her voice was unbearable, Charlotte watching as the girl retreated from her and disappeared into a tangle of brush. When she got tired of waiting, Charlotte sent Harvey after her, turning her attentions down to some dirt under her fingernails while she waited.

Something was definitely going on here. She just had to figure out what it was, and knowing her sister,it wouldn't be that hard. After all, they were basically the same person, so Charlotte was good at picking up when her sister was trying got lie to her about something, or keep something hidden.

Calling out to her sister that she was coming back there whether the girl was done or not, she paused when she saw her sister with one glove off and hands scrunching her dog's face together. Of course, she had to question what was going on around here, her tone more confused than anything. In response to her question, her sister plopped down into the snow, claiming that she was having a post-pee pow-wow with Harvey. Charlotte's expression was clearly skeptical, arms crossing over her chest as blue eyes regarded her sister with suspicion. Slowly, her steps took her in a wide circle around her sister, expression turning to a smug smile.

"You wouldn't be, you know, lying to me, Lynnie…Would you? Because you know you're not very good at it. And it wouldn't take much for me to get the truth out of you." She stopped in front of the girl now as she planted herself deeper into the snow, rocking back and forth, just as the girl started chattering away about the snow and what they were going to do when they got home. Shaking her head with a soft smile, she offered her hand down to the girl to help her to her feet with a chuckle. "Hot chocolate always sounds good, you know me. Wonder if dad would make us some barbecue chicken sandwiches for dinner. We won't know until we get home," she prodded, clearly trying to get her sister up off the ground so they could keep walking home.

Once they were back on their way, she kept glancing over at her sister, tossing her mass of red hair over her shoulders. Harvey ran circles around them in the snow, releasing a loud string of barks when their house became visible through the row of pines that marked the edge of the forest. He took off running towards the door, Charlotte pausing and taking her sister by the arm.

"Lyn, you're sure that everything is alright? You kept running off from me in the woods and you swore me to secrecy. Nothing I need to know before we go inside?" Her hands found her waist as she looked at the girl expectantly, waiting for an explanation. After all, if they couldn't talk to each other, who else could they talk to? Their mother came to the door to let a whining Harvey in out of the snow, taking a towel and rubbing him down before turning to look at the treelike, clearly looking for the girls. Wherever that dog was, she knew that her girls weren't too far behind.

Lying was definitely not Lyn's strongest point, and it was clear Charlotte was already suspicious of her fibbing. Whether it be from the tone in her voice or the nervous glances she stole, Lyn was not an academy award actress. Charlotte had a knack for smelling out her lies, and as Lyn was being circled by her older twin like prey, she realized it was only a matter of time before she was found out. Fortunately, Lyn kept the spotlight off her by bringing up their activities waiting for them at home, and Charlotte helped her stand with a smile. "We won't know? Forget that: there's two of us! We're gonna force him to make it, all through smiles and love!" she said cheerfully, embracing her sister tightly as she stood up. Harvey mimicked the younger twins energy, bounding about them as he waited for them to make a move back home.

As they made their way back, Charlotte made it a habit to continuously look back to Lyn, as if she was trying to catch her sister in the act of doing something. Lyn could feel her nervousness beginning to swell again, knowing fully well that Charlotte was looking her over to see if she was telling the truth. At this point, it was only a matter of time before Lyn would need to confess.

Harvey then tore through the snow in a mad dash when their house came into view, Lyn's smile broadening as she picked up her pace to join the canine. Charlotte, however, had other ideas as she grabbed her sister's arm. Again, she asked if there something she needed to know, and she brought up the swear they shared. Darn it, she had to bring that up...

Twiddling her fingers together, Lyn nervously looked to her boots, caught like a deer in headlights. "I...need to pee?" she said pathetically, knowing that she had already used the excuse. She had her back to a tree at this point, pushing her fingers together nervously. Then she frowned. "Oh, f-fine. Keep us out here freezing our butts off to get the truth, officer. That's evil, sis." she said, childishly pouting as she crossed her arms across her chest.

"But...not here." she said quietly, leaning slightly to get a better view of their house. Their mother had just stopped looking out into the trees for them, deciding that they would eventually come back like always. Lyn took her sister's hand, leading her back deeper into the trees.

After a sufficient amount of distance was covered, Lyn stopped and turned to her sister. "Alright. Well, lately I've been feeling really weird. And then, just a few minutes ago, I...well, see for yourself." she said shakily, taking her sister's hand and taking off her glove. Then, she took her own ungloved hand and rested her hand on her sisters.

She felt...normal. Not hot.

An awkward silence filled the air, a cold chill blowing between them. "Uh, give it a second." she said, scrunching her face as she concentrated on her hand. Of course, now that she wanted her temperature to flare up, she was as normal as any other ginger.

"..."

"..."

"...any second now."
Lyn's voice became stern and annoyed, her grip on her sister's hand tightening unconsciously as she impatiently tried to get her heat to raise. After a moment, she realized that nothing was happening. She slowly met Charlotte's eyes, expression looking apologetic. "Well, what I'm trying to show you is...I think I have a fever, or something." she said, shaking her hand in an attempt to speed up the heating process faster. "I felt myself go hot, temperature wise, and...yeah. I seem to be fine now. Shucks." she said, shaking her hand more vigorously.

Meanwhile, back at the twin's house, Alexandra Gauge looked back out the window to the row of trees, growing impatient at her daughter's absence. "I swear, each time they go out, they spend more and more time away. They'll catch a cold out there." she said worryingly, placing a bowl of food in front of Harvey. She looked at the dog with a finger pointed. "Harvey, do you know what those girls are doing? Harvey, Lynette and Charlotte?"

Harvey brought his head up from the dog bowl, licking his chops as he stared at her for a moment, before making his way back to the door and scratching it. Alexandra rolled her eyes and opened the door, the dog once again taking off into the trees, looking for the sisters.

No one knew her sister better than Charlotte did, whether it was because they were twins, or whether it was just because the girls were close. Either way, it didn't take a genius to be able to tell that Lyn was trying to hide something from her. While Charlotte was glad that lying wasn't highter up on the girl's resume. It would have made he job as older sister that much harder. Unfortunately, her sister kept dodging her inquiries, changing the subject to the various comforts awaiting them at home. She couldn't help but smile and laugh slightly at her twin's suggestion that they could force their father to make whatever they wanted for dinner, if they worked together.

"It is hard to resist the two of us, when we put our minds to something." Charlotte helped her sister up out of the snow, returning her embrace while Harvey bounded gleeful through the snow around them. She laughed at his enthusiasm, reaching down and grabbing a handful of snow, which she threw at him playfully. He barked at the snow as it fell around him, turning and starting to run towards their house before turning to make sure that the girls were in tow.

As the girls made their way through the cold, the older twin continued to glance towards her younger sister, seeing the nerves starting to rise. There was something going on there, she just knew it, but it was a matter of getting her sister to talk about it. Normally, getting Lyn to talk was never really a problem. If anything, it was getting her to stop talking that always prove dto be the more difficult task. Whatever this was seemed to be different, and the fact that it seemed to be such a secret was starting to make Charlotte nervous. Just as she decided to call her sister on it, Harvey tore through the snow as home came into view, Lyn quickening her page to chase after the canine. She couldn't let them get home without hashing this out, however.

Reaching out and grabbing her arm before she could get too far, Charlotte asked once more if there was something she wanted to talk about, bringing up their secrecy swear. Lyn looked down nervously, attempting to convince her that her strange behavior was simply because she had to pee. The look she gave her younger sister would say it all - that was the worst attempt at a lie she'd ever heard (and Lyn had tried quite a few terrible cover ups in her day). She shoffled her body around so she was standing between the girl and their home, hands crossing over her chest as she stared expectantly.

"You know I'm not above evil when it comes to you," she joked back to the girl, shaking her head at the girl's pouty expression. Finally, it seemed that her sister gave in, insisting she would talk, but not here. It would be an understatement to say that she was confused, following the girl's gaze towrds the house to see their mother leading Harvey inside, no doubt knowing that the girls would be close by. She felt Lyn's hand close around her own, leading her back into the trees.

"Ok, you better start talking, or I'm going to freak out! What is going on," she insisted, ready to start pleading with the girl so she wouldn't have to keep imagining what her sister was about to tell her. The way she was acting, it seemed like something major. They stopped, Lyn turning to her and explaining that she'd been feeling weird lately, only to discover that she...had hands? Rather than say anythign, she let an awkward silence hand in the air as the girls held hands, blue eyes seeking her sister's face for any indication that this was some sort of joke.

"Ok, I'm trying to give you some latitude here to talk to me, but now you're just acting weird," she said after a few seconds of still nothing but increased grip from her sister's hand. It took another minute before sher sister released her hand, meeting her eyes with an apologetic expression. She explained that she thought she might be sick with some sort of fever, Charlotte taking off one glove with ehr teeth to gently press a hand against her sister's forehead.

"You don't feel like you have a fever, but you're sure acting like you've been out in the cold too long..." Her voice trailed off, arms falling to her side once more as she looked at her sister with a perplexed expression. Just what was she going to do with the girl? There was no way they were going to mention this to Mom...all she would do was worry, and then both of them would suffer.

"Fine, if you don't want to tell me-" Just then, Harvey came bursting through the trees with a telltale bark, rushing up behind Lyn and jumping towards her back to push her towards Lyn. Charlotte let out a surprised gasp at the dog's appearance, sheidling herself from the spray of snow that came her way. Maybe it was best that they pretend like this whole thing never happened. At the very least, she was ready for some of that hot chocolate - then she could better fogure out what to do about Lyn's strange behavior.

Fibbing wasn't Lyn's strong suit, but after her hot flashes scared her senseless, she wasn't about to head home and worry the rest of her family. Sweating profusely in a cold environment was not normal after all, and she didn't want their little vacation time spent worrying over her mystery condition. She could try and convince her parents that it was nothing, but Charlotte? Nothing got past her eye, and she was the one she had to convince the most. No mere twin pact could prevent Charlotte from doting on her if she found out she was sick. Or whatever it was that she was coming down with.

At the very least, they made their way back towards the house in an awkward silence. She could almost feel the holes in her skulls being burned in from her sister's stares, but she had to pretend she didn't notice. Keeping a secret was killing her, especially since she told Charlotte everything, and in detail. This omission made her feel guilty, for being so sneaky around her sister, but whatever it was that was happening to her made her feel more worried as time went on. She was only glad that Charlotte hadn't filled the walk back with small chatter, where she'd be able to pick up the shakiness in Lyn's voice. And thankfully, Harvey's excited barking signaled that they were near their home where, at the very least, any troubles between the twins wouldn't come out in front of their parents.

However, Charlotte seemed to want to get to the bottom of the mystery once and for all, as she snatched her right after Harvey and bounded off towards the house, putting them out of sight of the house and confronted Lyn about her behavior. The same excuse she gave last time wouldn't work this time, unless she could convince her older twin that she had an overactive bladder.
She stood between her and the freedom of the house, literally becoming the wall between them. Lyn noted the evil tendencies Charlotte seemed to have, but not even good humor could save her: Charlotte was determined to know. And if she was gonna, there was a time and place: time seemed to be now, as Charlotte's insistence would prove it. But where? At least not within view of their parents. She grabbed her sister and pulled both of them back into the trees, just before their mother took a quick peek out. If Harvey had made it to the house with little trouble, their mother would assume that her daughters would eventually follow in after some time.

But before they would dare walk back into shelter, Lyn had some explaining to do. Her secretive behavior only worried Charlotte more, who practically pleaded with and threatened freaking out. The younger twin knew there was no turning back now, so she tried to convey as best as as she could her dilemma by grabbing her sister's hands and trying to make the unusual heat resurface again. But it seemed whatever higher power that watching over them decided that this little moment would be a cosmically humorous moment, that little heat surge failing to spark and leaving Lyn standing there, awkwardly holding her sister's hand in a vain attempt to convince her that something weird was happening that wasn't just her mind. She was acutely aware of her sister scanning her face, expecting something just as she was. She could have sworn that everything around them went quiet in anticipation for the reveal, and it made the not-reveal all the more lackluster.

Her grip tightened, and it only served to make Charlotte even more curious, voicing her weirded out reaction. She pulled away from Lyn's grasp, and still Lyn was left without an explanation. She hinged so much on this little demonstration, but of course fate had a funny way of working: now that she wanted her little condition to flare up, it acted like it was not even present. She had to eventually fess up, to at least put it into some words, if her little demonstration wasn't gonna work. It was at least enough to make her sister see for herself whether or not she did have a fever, But, just as she herself felt, not even Charlotte could feel anything resembling a fever on her forehead, but her behavior still put her on edge. She should've opened up with this instead of the impromptu demo.

Charlotte was running out of patience for her little front, and was gonna pull out some playful threat to get Lyn to spill more beans, when Harvey returned and crashed back into Lyn, causing them both to fall to the snow while Charlotte let out a small gasp and stood back. Leave it to Harvey to break the tension...Lyn thought, trying to get Harvey off of her as the cold splash of snow brushed against her cheek. "Harvey!" she shouted, almost like she was scolding the dog (as well as she could at least, from her position). She turned as best as she could from her fallen position, to try and push the dog off her, as she had had quite enough of snow against her face and hands. But as she tried to get a grip on the dog's shoulder and chest, she was unaware of the growing heat that began to rise in her core, She could not feel it, but Harvey definitely could. Her palms began to heat up against his skin, and he began to show signs of being uncomfortable by moving his head to try and n** at her hands. Lyn, in shock, tried even harder to push Harvey off, which was the catalyst in an unfortunate incident. Something deep within her registered her in danger, and from within her, came a flame that seared hotter than any furnace she'd come across. She didn't feel a thing this time, but the effects were immediate.

Suddenly, Harvey yelped and jumped back from Lyn, letting out pained howls as it backed away from Lyn, tail tucked underneath him and ears lain flat. "Harvey?!" she shouted, confused at the sudden reaction from the dog. She tried to sit up from her spot, but the sound of burning snow caught her attention. She looked down at her hands, buried in the snow an saw the very real heat waves pulsing off her hands, the snow around them immediately melting and turning to water. She looked to Harvey once again and noticed the burn marks on his fur, who was now licking the burns in an attempt to lessen the pain. She screamed, afraid of what she had done, but this only made maters worse: her hands coated themselves in a burst of flame, shooting out around her. The snow again reacted to her heat and melted, Lyn's terrified screaming only increasing the amount of heat giving off her body. She tried to stop her self from yelling, cupping her mouth, but remembered her hands were still one fire, and again tried put her hands as far away from her person as she could. She tried desperately to step away from Charlotte, already reacting to the scene. "Charlie, what's going on?! Help, please!" she pleaded, still backing away from her sister. She didn't want to burn her too, just like she did Harvey. Her vision blurred as tears began to build in her face, but even those began to evaporate and bubble away at the high temperature of her skin. She screamed again, still feeling more effects of the fire. Her clothes had already began to catch fire, and tried her best to take off some of them: her gloves had already burned right off from the initial reaction, and now her jacket had caught some sears, as well as her pants.

Then, just as fast as it had come, the fire had suddenly dispersed, receding back into her like a breath, and Lyn froze in her spot on the floor, dumbstruck at what had just had happened. Reality hit her next, and she stood up from her spot in a hurry, still backing away from Charlotte. Then, she turned and bolted deeper in the forest, away from their cottage. She couldn't be here. She couldn't be close to anyone. Whatever had happened, came from her. She wouldn't let anyone else get hurt from her firestorm. She cried all the way in her sprint, brushing past bushes, tree branches, and trunks as she fled in a panicked frenzy. The fire from before shot out from her hands every few steps, causing her to scream and try to avoid any trees. She didn't want to start a forest fire so deep now. There'd be no way to avoid it if it happened.

She cried, clutching her hands as they once again coated themselves in heat. She did not register how this specific fire didn't harm her, she was only concerned with running as far away as possible. Eventually, her foot caught on a slow brush, and she fell flat on her face, the sizzling snow making her stand up from the snow again. She stood in her spot, breathing erratic and close to hyperventilating. She put her hands to her face, trying to feel the heat from before, but could only feel something close to a radiator coming from her skin. The fire that coated her hands had dispersed again, but the heat remained, still distorting the air around them. She clenched her fists, and she could feel the slightest rise in heat in her hands, swearing she saw a spark somewhere near her thumb. She shrieked, then fell to her knees, resuming her crying. She was so confused, nothing was making sense, and she had to wrestle with the fact that she could hurt people with something she didn't even know about. She ignored the sounds of steam rising from her skin as her tears continued running down her cheeks.
