Name: Blyte (pronounced Blight)
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Prisoner: Yes
Crime: Dust Distribution
Craft/Rank: Ex-smithcraft apprentice

Appearance: At 6'0 exactly, Blyte isn't the tallest of men, but neither is he the shortest, and with a decent amount of muscle mass, he isn't exactly what another man could call an "easy opponent." His face, though rugged, has its better features, one of which is his eyes. They're a striking dark blue, something unusual in his family. His skin stays a light tan, no matter the season, and his hair is a light sandy brown.

He has his scars, too, but you'll probably not notice most of them. He has two lines on his face from a knife fight during a night of stealing, a notch on his arm where an arrow grazed him, claw marks from where a feline slashed his torso, and various lines and marks on his legs and arms from various other fights he's been in.

As for clothing, Blyte likes to wear loose fitting wherhide pants, the type that are not too tight, but not too loose as to be a hindrance. He prefers blues, whites, and browns, but as a prisoner, he's stuck with the bright red jumpsuit. He's never been one to fuss about his clothing though, and he realizes that things could be much worse. At least they're semi-comfortable.

Personality:Blyte is abrasive, but not to the point that he'll upset anyone who he can't afford to piss off. He is harsh and not one to sugar coat his words just to please anyone. He will tell the truth and to Between with anyone that can’t handle the truth. He has the utmost confidence in his abilities and trusts that he will be able to take care of whatever needs to be done.

Stubborn-headed and loyal to the end, Blyte can be the staunchest friend a person has ever had, or the biggest thorn in their side, especially if he has any reason to dislike them, which he probably does. That doesn't mean he won't work with them, just that he won't spend any more time than necessary speaking to them or being around them.

For those who he comes to trust, who have his loyalty, they can do no wrong. He knows that they must have good reasons for doing what they're doing, and is willing to wait, possibly forever, to hear what they are. He stubbornly believes in his own ideas and convictions about people, and rarely changes his mind. It can make him difficult to work with, and he'll be downright nasty if you continue to try to turn him against someone he's pledged loyalty to.

This also can make him easy to manipulate, assuming you are willing to put in the effort to become one of those that he deems worthy to be loyal to.

He doesn't have much of a temper, though when he does lose it, beware. He will lash out at anyone who's close to him at the time, no matter who they are. He tries to keep these incidents to a minimum, as much as he can, but he's not always successful.

History: Blyte was born to Boralye and Terua, a pair of beastcrafters at one of the seaholds. He had no interest in beastcrafting, or seemingly anything, and when he appeared to be interested in the repairing of horseshoes, it was arranged for him to become a smithcraft apprentice.

This pleased the boy, as it took him away from both the seahold and his family, and for a time, he was content. He grew bored though, and began to expand his interests, becoming friends with a few of the local holdless around his age, learning tricks and things from them.

That life appealed to him, and he began to spend more and more time with them, to the point where he was neglecting his studies, and before too long, he found himself expelled.

This didn't both him in the least, and he joined up with the gang of holdless that he had been spending time with anyways. They would become a menace to the nearby holds, and while some tolerated them, most started to watch them warily, waiting for them to either screw up or get caught.

And that was what Blyte's fate ended up being.

It hadn't started out any differantly than a normal day, and the dust drop should have been just a simple in and out, but unknown to them, the person that they were delivering them to was an agent of the Dragon watch, one who had suspected the gang of being Dust suppliers and had set up a sting to catch them at it.

It would would only be Blyte who was apprehended, since he had been able to warn his partner through her firelizard, and he knew that the rest of the gang would go to ground, and would be safe.

This was the only reason that the teen didn't fight to escape, allowing himself to be taken into custody without much fuss. He had been tempted, but he knew that as long as he could buy them just a bit of time the rest would be safe. For now.

He fully expects to see at least one of them eventually, but so far, he's been the only one transported to the weyr. It's been about half a turn, and he is slightly hopeful that perhaps he never will.

As for himself, he has been keeping his head down, playing the good boy, and doing as he is asked. He might not want to be here, but he is making the best of it that he can.

This paid off when the queen laid her clutch, and he was permitted to stand. There was a lot of drama at the hatching, including the death a grey, but he did impress, to the little grey that he had moved to protect.

Name: Vociferoth
Color: Gray

Appearance: Vociferoth is small. He's so small. Remember Ruth? Yeah, that small. Even at full growth, he will be only a bit taller than a draft horse at the shoulder. He will make up for it by being leanly built: wiry but strong, he will have no difficulty carrying his rider, although additional passengers may strain even his strength. And speed? Speed, Vociferoth possesses in spades. He will fly easy circles around his larger brethren without even trying.

Unlike some of his siblings, who will get brighter and more vividly marked as they get older, Vociferoth is more or less going to stay drab and dull. He's a gray. He's going to stay gray. What were you expecting, neon gray?

Personality:
Screaming in the dark, I howl when we're apart
drag my teeth across your chest to taste your beating heart

Despite the dramatic circumstances of his hatching, Vociferoth is a dragon with the capacity to be surprisingly subtle or impossible to ignore as the situation demands. Much like his bird, really: the screaming piha is a drab little gray thing that blends into the jungle perfectly when predators are close, but has one of the loudest songs in the rainforest to attract mates and companions. He would prefer to blend himself neatly into the background among his fellow siblings, letting the other mutant colors (the pink, the yellows, the opal) bear the brunt of the Warden's wrath. He doesn't have a strong sense of justice driving him like Haliath, or the urge to be seen and admired like Lophorinth. Vociferoth looks out for Number One - and as far as he's concerned, since he dies if his rider dies, Blyte counts as Number One.

That said, Vociferoth is not the quiet type. He will keep up a near-constant commentary to his rider; Blyte should be infinitely grateful that mindspeech is private, Warden's doesn't boast any HADs, and some of Vociferoth's more colorful remarks will thus never be shared with the public at large. Of course, he can happily weaponize that voice of his whenever Blyte asks him to - and it can easily be either a subtle knife or a blunt hammer. Whether it's insinuating insults or just plain screaming, Vociferoth can generally win an argument solely by virtue of being the one who will not shut up until he gets what he's after.

Blyte can be easy to manipulate at times. Vociferoth isn't. He's sharp as a tack, this gray, and naturally suspicious of the motives of others. In fact, if he deems it necessary to protect his rider, he's not above pulling a few puppet strings and engineering a situation to make Blyte see that someone he trusts is just using him. It's a hard truth, but it's the truth. This is a prison. Sometimes people aren't looking out for your best interests... but Vociferoth always is.

The main obstacle to his success? Vociferoth isn't in very good control of his emotions. Much like Blyte, Vociferoth is prone to lashing out at anyone near him when he loses his temper... but unfortunately, he has a much shorter fuse than his rider. He's got an awful lot of small-dog syndrome to work through and sometimes he just acts without thinking. He will want to remain close to his rider whenever possible, and is likely to become impossible to handle if he is separated from Blyte for any lengthy period of time. To paraphrase an old saying, when he's good, he's very good, but when he's bad, he's a danger to everyone in the immediate vicinity.

Fear in particular will be an issue for him. Vociferoth is very nearly fearless; his panic upon first hatching out of the shell will be one of the rare few times in his life. (And even then, consider the situation - a newborn infant confronted with a mass of chaos and death and a threat on his own life. That is the level of trauma it takes to shake Voci.) When he does get overwhelmed, he doesn't deal with it well. His fight or flight instinct is very powerful, and when he can neither attack nor flee, he will just start to break down.

Why me? Vociferoth is... not an easy dragon. He's really, really not. He needs a rider who has Blyte's staunch loyalty, someone who will stick by him even when he's at his most difficult. He will never actively try to make Blyte's life harder, but given the delicate situation of the prisoner weyrlings, and the fine line that they will have to walk, it's inevitable that he's going to get in some trouble - and he needs someone who will stand by him and help him out when that happens. In return, he will always remember somewhere deep down inside of him that Blyte saved his life, and he will faithfully give his all for his rider.

Based On: The Screaming Piha and Howl.

Squeak
A surprisingly nocturnal firelizard. He spends most of his time asleep during the day, and then playing at night. He is very loving, and is fairly well-behaved, even if he does have a tendancy to get dirty.
