Hakuda: Ringo is actually very efficient in Hakuda. His style is very unique and elaborate in that it is almost on par with someone within the Second Division. Ringo progressed by learning how to fight with all seven of his blades at once, requiring vigorous training. He needs to constantly be moving in order to operate each blade while the other is performing some function. His attacks consist of various kicks, thrusts, and punches. He was taught to calculate the opponent's next movements, and to fight at close range.

Shikai Incantation: "Break Free... Kage no Tsuki..."
Shikai Appearance: Ringo's Zanpakuto separates into seven individual blades, in which he throws all seven into the air. They either remain fixed within the air or he will catch them in a certain pose to begin his attack sequence. At this exact point, a circle of shadow appears beneath Ringo.
Shikai Abilities: His abilities focus on remaining unseen, like the shadowed portion of the moon.
• Stinging Dance of the Shadow: Possessing a unique fighting style, Ringo holds his seven blades in between the joints of his arms (left armpit, both elbows), right leg, stomach, the right side of his neck, and in his mouth. As strange as it appears, Ringo is very skilled with this, spinning around like a buzz saw and overwhelming his opponent with all of the varying swings, giving him great versatility, which makes it difficult to predict his movement. When he finds an opening, Ringo can impale his opponent with most of his swords quickly and simultaneously. He can also use these blades as mid-range projectiles when propelled by small traces of shadow.
• Shadow Blade Weave: Ringo can summon strands of shadow from underneath him or anywhere where his shadow is produced to grab hold of his seven blades. At this point, the shadow can then be controlled to swing around like tentacles with the blades, moving in synchronization with Ringo's moves entirely. This increases Ringo's range of attack.
• Lunar Eclipse | Shadow Submerge: Ringo sinks into the shadow itself and appears closer to an opponent that has any trace of shadow nearby. He can also stretch shadow, though it is difficult, to the point where it coats a larger area of a wall or floor. ( This is used as last resort since it significantly drains reiatsu.)
• Blade Teleportation Technique: This is natural to Ringo's abilities, in which he can send his blades through shadow itself and allow them to emerge at any given point with shadow to then attack the opponent. His shadows basically act as portals. His usual method is sending his blade through his own shadow, then allowing the blade to emerge from the opponent's shadow- stabbing them from behind.

Personality: Ringo comes off as very apathetic and unwelcoming. At first glance, his lips are usually pressed into a serious expression, and his eyes seem unfocused and disinterested. This is due in part to the fact that Ringo is almost never truly in touch with the world. He is constantly thinking about other things, whether it be his duties to the Soul Society or the duties of his family. Ringo is very over protective of his family (especially of his sister), and will go through great lengths to ensure their safety.
Ringo is a very solitary person. He is independent, and dislikes having to ask favors from others. In battle, Ringo tends to become very cocky and reckless. While he will start off pacing his attacks, he will eventually lose his patience and begin to become more reckless once he sees an available opportunity. This often leads to his downfall. Also, unless he is in close-ranged hand-to-hand combat, Ringo is not very capable of determining the movements of others. Because of this, Ringo is an offensive fighter and rarely depends on defense at all. His goal "hit 'em before they can lay a hand on me".

History: Ringo was born (officially named Kira) in Tokyo Japan to avidly traveling parents Taichi and Miyuki Maruyama. As an infant, Ringo knew nothing of the Soul Society. He grew up in the modern day Japan, believing only that to be his reality. He gained the nickname 'Ringo' for the deep red color of his hair (which resembled an apple) and his love of apples. For five years, they resided in a relatively cramped apartment wedged into the busiest part of the city. Only about a year or so after his own birth, his younger sister was born. As they grew, the two of them were relatively close. Ringo would frequently stand up for Terumi even when it wasn't necessary at all. He saw himself as her guardian. At around the age of five, Ringo moved to Karakura with his family when Taichi had to relocate for a job promotion. They moved into a much larger, far more comfortable home, and the Maruyama siblings' lives became generally happier. As Ringo grew to the age of ten, he certainly noticed that he was quite different from other boys his age. For some reason, he could see people that did not exist to others, and could hear the roars and cries of distant animals- all of which Ringo assumed lived in the forest. Whenever he made any mention of them to his parents, they disregarded it and reassured Ringo that he had a vivid imagination.
When Ringo turned thirteen, the family (over the summer) decided to take a trip to England. They planned a vacation that would enable them to stay there for at least two weeks. Then, it happened- Terumi Maruyama completely disappeared one day in a shopping center. Taichi and Miyuki went frantic. Ensuring every existing police patrol unit was dispatched to find their daughter, the parents searched tirelessly- to no avail. The trip that was once designed to be a two week trip was extended to two months. Terumi Maruyama was assumed dead. Depressed, the family returned to Karakura. Ringo became far more aggressive in school, often starting fights with the other kids who dared to bring up the topic of his sister. On one particular occasion, Ringo almost faced expulsion, only for his parents to convince the principal to allow him another chance. Taichi and Miyuki Maruyama were comforting to Ringo, but they did not satisfy Ringo's longing to see his sister once again.
At the age of fourteen, Ringo met someone who completely changed his life. 'You're like me... but you don't know you are.' A strange man in a black kosode and hakama said, plopping down before him. The man introduced himself as Akio, of the Gotei 14. Ringo was utterly confused. No one else saw this man dressed in traditional robes and a sword. Akio claimed to be on patrol duty for his Squadron, the Ninth Division, and was often seen going about the city. Since he was always present, Ringo would always talk to Akio on his way to school each day. The two quickly became friends. Knowing of Ringo's strong desire to protect, Akio promised Ringo he would train him. Ringo's life made a considerable flip in an abandoned warehouse. Here, Akio proved to Ringo that he was, in fact, a Shinigami. Jamming his palm into Ringo's forehead with a certain glove, Akio managed to rip apart Ringo's body from his soul. Ringo stood there- amazed, standing in his own sleeveless kosode and hakama. Training commenced.
Akio taught Ringo several advanced Hakuda techniques, never bothering to touch upon Kido. Ringo learned, and over the years became very experienced in this particular fighting style. Only a few nights later, Ringo experienced the dream where he was exposed to his zanpakuto for the first time. It was a ghostly geisha, dressed in white finery, with black lipstick and eyes. She claimed to be the Shadow of the Moon and, respectively, Ringo's zanpakuto. Zanpakuto training then began. By the age of 18, Akio had fully trained Ringo in everything that he knew- but still stressed the importance of experience and constant training. Ringo had fought various Hollow, and continues to do so on behalf of the Gotei 14. After one year, Ringo had already gotten involved with college, but still often patrols Karakura- unaware of the fact that the Gotei 14 have held an eye on him ever since Akio first met him.
