It was late winter. The heavy grey clouds were parting, saying their goodbyes to each other as they were making way for bluer skies, warmer mornings and happier faces. That particular evening Amberstone had some trouble falling asleep. Certainly, there was something on his mind and something in his heart that was stopping sleep from visiting him in his burrow. The not-so-young-anymore hare turned from one side to another, moved around, felt the cold wet soil but nothing could help. And, he had to be fresh and rested in the morning.
Sleep never came hard enough when you were a happy buck, using all of your daily energy to do what you had to and make others happy. Or at least as happy as you could make them which was truly the hard part. It seemed almost like most of his fellow warren members didn't want to be happy at all. This wasn't really his concern. Their lives were, of course, none of his business and Amberstone was the type of buck that would gladly step away with a gentle bow and with his golden muzzle shifting into a smile when shown the smallest signs that whispered "Back off a bit, eh?". As he was trying yet again to sleep and yet again all in vain, he decided it was high time he got up and out of the burrow. After all, the weather was good lately and he felt like he could use a good warm night. Well, not particularly warm, but not too cold either. So, he got up on his feet and hopped out of the tunnels just in time to see the beautiful moonlight shining down on the grass that was showing now for the first time since Autumn. He smiled as he sat there watching the surroundings. "Well, if I can't get a'y sleep t'night, 't least I'll 'njoy m'self."

Phlox wasn't exactly the soundest sleeper, unlike her papa who could sleep through almost anything she woke to even subtle sounds. while her papa slept soundly just a burrow away phlox was up and shuffling about in her den giving herself a good bath and washing her face; she spun her paws around her nose and eyes. Then, tilting her head out she lifted a back leg to get at an itch behind her ear. After shaking her head of the itch, she stopped when the sound of something outside caught her attention, it sounded like another rabbit out for a wander. Curious, she hoped out to the entrance of her den and poked her head out of the burrow to see a golden colored buck dotting about in the night air. she looked around and noted that all was well and secure before emerging fully into the moonlight. her dark pelt was well suited for the dark. her lean form blended into the shadows as she quickly and almost silently popped across the grass to the new face. "Hey!" she called softly as she slowed down to meet him. "What are you doing out so late?" she asked in a hush, many rabbits had deserted the warren recently and so she was curious.

Bluer skies and pure air is what Amberstone had dreamed of all his life. Ever since he was a small careless fluffball and yes, this was one of the nights that could offer both those things so, the buck couldn't be more content. Filled with joy he was hopping about the hills. Slowly, stopping every now and then for a break. Just to look at the big blue sky above him with all its stars (although there weren't that many with those puffy clouds hanging up there).
As he was enjoying himself his muzzle twitched to sense the scent of another rabbit coming closer and closer. He stood up on his back feet, looking around happily to see if there was company approaching him and whether they would be talkative and like him and whether they would share the same love for pure moments like this one and whether they would stay up with him and enjoy the night. Ears perked up and down constantly while his eyes stopped on a gorgeous being. Surely, it was hard to tell just how gorgeous she was because of the night's beauty and because of her own nightpelt's beauty but my, oh my...
It only took one look at her for Amber to realize why he wasn't sleeping at that precise moment- he had been missing some female company, some doe action. His first offspring had grown up a long time ago yet he didn't have any interactions with another female, nor did he flirt. And, why? Just seeing that beautiful dark silhouette now coming closer to him made him wonder about what he had been missing for all this time.
Grooming! Oh, Frith, he had forgotten to groom himself before getting out of the tunnels. Certainly, he didn't look as bad as he taught he did but still, he needed to impress this fine lady so he dug his muzzle in his front paws, circulating around his ears and heard a gentle, honey-like voice say "Hey!" to him while doing so.
"Hello there!" he said, pausing the grooming at once and staring as awkwardly as ever.
"I..." hm. What was he doing out so late? "Well, I... I j'st decided to hop 'round, y'know... And, y'rself?" he flashed her one of his trademark big smiles at that last part now viewing her full beauty and staring into those bright blue eyes which, gladly, were staring back.

Phlox was pleasantly surprised to be greeted warmly; not that she was expecting him to be rude but it was an odd time of night and she had kind of burst out on him, if anything she expected him to be alarmed by her presence, however he seemed quite happy to see her.
She was mildly confused by his sudden and quick attempt to groom his face. What was he doing all that for? he looked fine, she couldn't help but wander her eyes over his sun stained pelt. Phlox rocked back on her hinds and let her ears lay back, thoroughly content. she pat down her chest fur as she sat up and smiled back at him.
"Kind of late for just a hop-around, couldn't sleep?" she asked with a soft laugh, his stuttering amused her greatly. Phlox had been quite preoccupied with trying to become a full fledged Runner and never took much intrest in Bucks; in addition her father was always quite protective of her and he had a habit of running off suitors. Yet now she found the thought: 'he's really cute' bouncing around her head. She did find him cute, and funny. "I woke up and couldn't go back to sleep, then I heard you out here wandering and decided to have a look."

He was indeed happy to see her. Maybe even a bit too happy. He was constantly worried about how he might appear to her, how she perceived him. And now, he was even started to get worried about looking worried! Oh, Frith! Why did it have to be so long before he met up with another female?! It seemed almost as if he had forgotten how to use his charms. Not that he had that many. Of course, he was a pretty carefree and happy buck and his positive energy circulated around him like a cloud around the sky, right up from the warren's majestic hills, yet he wasn't exactly the 'charming' type and never really got the meaning of this word.
Up until now, that is. Because right in front of him, there was this beautiful charming creature. Charismatic in every single way. They had just met and... Oh, dear! He had forgotten to let her know of his name, hadn't he?! How rude of him!
"Par'dn for my rudeness, m'lady! M'name's Amberstone!" he bowed softly flashing her another one of his smiles.
"Eh, y'got me! Couldn't sleep t'night! Luckily, it's quite a beautiful one, innit?" he smiled even wider when he found out that he wasn't the only one who couldn't fall asleep. Maybe Frith had plans for him tonight. Maybe He did for both of them. Or maybe he was just another fool falling out of luck after such a long pause..

Phlox laughed softly again, he sure was funny! she hadn't met many bucks she liked and none that had grabbed her attention this well.
"My name is Phlox, it's lovely to meet you Amberstone." she said happily, catching herself fidgeting her paws. she had to wonder, was he fidgeting and stuttering because he liked her? it seemed to make sense. after-all she was sure she was fidgeting because she found him handsome.
"Yes, it is very pretty out tonight." she agreed, looking up and scanning the skyline whimsically. she didn't find the pause to be an awkward silence, she was quite happy and quickly becoming excited.
"hey!" she said suddenly, stretching up to stand on her hinds and perking her ears forward playfully. "Do you run? wanna race up to the top of the hill there? I bet we could see the WHOLE sky from there!" she chirped in delight.

Her laugh chanted in his ears and then his head and it seemed as if it did in his whole body. It was such a wonderful laugh and Amber, being the happy-go-lucky buck he was loved seeing others smile and laugh but there was something really different and confusing, or more like- enchanting about hers. Was he the one who made her laugh or was she simply, rather laughing at him?
Ah, Phlox. What a lovely name! Short and definite it caught his attention and he couldn't help but smile at the sound of it. "Th'pleasure's all mine, m'lady!" he said with a soft and rather funny looking bow. She surely made him more conscious of his actions... Maybe a bit to conscious, though, he did indeed want to make an impression so, if he was nice usually, then he was even trying to be ten times nicer with her. She seemed like she deserved it, so, he wondered how many other bucks were "ten time nicer" with her.
"Wha...?" the buck's jaw dropped a little bit. He hadn't received an offer like that in ages. He was beginning to consider himself looking older than he actually was and that was why he thought he'd leave running to the youngsters. Then again, he had always had dreams of being a runner someday. Back when he and his family came to the warren that is. Something happened, though and he wasn't entirely sure what it is but it made him change his mind. Something must had happened otherwise, he would have still been pursuing his dream.
"Surely, th'sight is one y'wouldn't wanna miss but m'afraid m'sorta outta shape." he said looking a bit embarrassed by his own honesty trying not to face her and looking around a bit worriedly. Then he stopped himself and a thought came through his head for half a second. What if it was not too late for him to try and run? "Ah, a'ight! M'up for it!" he gave a big smile, eyes looking straight at hers.
