Since Micah had been back, it had been hard to get into a habit of running regularly again. She’d kept it up in Scotland while she was away; it was easier there. When her brain was still full of darkness and rage and she still got into fights to try and metabolize the turmoil within her. And even after all of that seething rage had died down into a dull ache she kept running, because it was the only thing that really made her happy. Moving back, however, had disrupted that habit. Her body was trying to get acclimated back to her life and work here and that left no energy for running more than once or twice a week. Needless to say this had Micah clawing at the walls, trying to figure something out.

It was only recently, as in within the last few days, realized that baking was an odd but acceptable substitute for her anxious mind. And so she did. Furiously. Cookies and cakes and muffins and candies. Marcia, Grayson, and Misha ate what they could and took the rest to friends, but it wasn’t enough to stem the tide of sugar that was taking over their kitchen. So Micah, with the weather warming up, loaded her mother’s hatchback up and took the surplus sweets around town. With her windows rolled down and her orchestral Disney CD playing softly, she felt sort of like an ice cream truck.

She’d been out all day, and had gotten rid of half of her stock. The remaining half, however, was still enough to sustain a small bakery for a day or two. Tired of driving, but eager to relieve herself of her remaining burden, Micah pulled into the mall’s parking lot and settled herself into the open hatchback. She left the CD running, so that violins softly pulled the notes to “You’ll Be In My Heart” as she passed out little cakes and cookies to children and their parents as they passed by.

The tower of treats behind Micah, though significantly decreased over the course of the hour that she’d been there, was still threatening to tip over at any moment. Whether or not Micah realized this or not, however, was a mystery to those on the outside. If the tower fell, then it fell. That just meant she would have to root around for things a little longer. As she steadily took baggie after baggie from the tower leaned further and further left. Occasionally, Micah would nudge it back to some semblance of stability, suggesting she noticed it’s sever angle. But it still never fell over.

At least not until Serenity arrived.

For whatever reason, her arrival had startled Micah, causing her to jump when she was addressed. This, in turn, sent the pile toppling over behind her. Micah sat still for a moment, watching Serenity as she tried to process what was happening behind her. She was a little bit irritated that it fell, somehow irrationally blaming physics for being so unreasonable, but the majority of her actually thought it was a little funny. Maybe it was because she had snuck more than a little of her own product, spiking her blood sugar.

Whatever the reason, Micah’s laughter bubbled up in her chest, erupting from her lips brightly. She didn’t bother to clean up the spill, seeing as to how none of it actually left the car, and so was still edible. No, it was fine, despite the irritation at the existence of gravity.

“No,” she finally answered, opening up a bag of mini cookies and popping one into her mouth. “I just had too much time on my hands and so this,” she gestured around her, beaming, “is the result. I’m trying to get this moved out of my trunk before mall security has me removed to vending without a permit of something. Wanna help? If you stay and help me pass hem out you can have as much as you want."

Ever the child, Micah stuck her tongue out at the gentleman as he passed, muttering profanities under her breath. People would be awful, as much as it pained her, and there was nothing she could do to change it. But that didn't being she couldn't react.

"Honestly, there's nothing I hate more than rudeness. There's just no excuse for that. Well, rudeness, uselessness, and cruelty." She flicked some powdered sugar from her shoulder as she finished her statement, seeming to have let the incident go, though she did file it away to add to the fire of her needless defiance for later.

When she was asked about her baking, it was Micah's turn to blush. She ducked her head low and nodded sheepishly, face cracked into a wide smile despite herself.

"When I'm stressed out I bake. And I've been really sort of super stressed out latley, so..." She gestured to the now mess of sweets in the back of her car. The hand surprised her. She jumped a little and stared at it like she wasn't sure what do to with it for several seconds before she took it tentatively.

"Micah," she answered, scooting over to allow her new friend to sit with her. "Like I said, I'm just eating up time... as it were..." Micah shoved a snowcap cookie into her mouth as though to emphasize her point. "Not sure how much longer I have but eh. It's a good way to spend an afternoon, you know? Doing good where I can." Smiling, Micah handed a little mini muffin to a little girl who walked up to her trunk as she finished speaking around her cookie. "Everything seems to be falling to s**t around us in this town, and even little rays like this help."
