Eira found herself pacing around the ground level of their home, giving the occasional sigh here and there, making it more then obvious that she wasn't too pleased with the current situation that she found herself in. How could she enjoy it though? The snows were falling again, overly large flakes that had been falling since late last night, and hadn't seemed to consider slowing down yet. She was stuck inside, her, her brother, the puff ball that he called Rae, and then her own little friend Flurry, the sprite, "Ugh... this is just awful..." She muttered, wanting nothing more then to complain to... someone. A shame that her father wasn't home today, he was on a hunt with a couple of the other hunters, making her worry about his well being. If anything happened to him where would she be? Stuck here with a little brother she didn't want, that was where.

Turning her bright yellow eyes toward that little brother she starred at him, watching him the way that he was going about, touching everything, all the while dragging around one of their father's cloaks. She really didn't understand the kid that much, finding him a bit odd, wanting to avoid him for the most part, though she knew a part of that was due to the fact that his mother was a replacement for her own mother. Could she really be mad at him for that? She wasn't sure but she knew that despite knowing that his parentage wasn't his fault she found it hard not to be upset regardless. Had she even known before he showed up that he existed maybe it would be easier to deal with but as it it was the strange looking youngling had been quite the surprise.

It wasn't a surprise that she hadn't cared for then, nor did she care for now, but it was something she knew she would have to get used to eventually. Her brother wasn't going anywhere, was he? Such a bother. All she had to look forward to at the moment was that once she because more then a mere prentice herself she would be able to get a place of her own. For now though she was stuck and without her father to act as a buffer between the two of them. It made her wonder if maybe she aught to see about trying to get to know the kid... a thought that made her make a face as though she'd eaten something sour, not liking that idea in the least.

The sound of his sister pacing around and muttering to herself wasn't really something all that new to Makani who had been slowly getting used to it. After a while it had just become another sound in the house along with the crackling of the fire, the sound of his father stomping the snow off his boots, or the many other countless sounds that someone like him who relied on such things would hear. He really didn't even bother to turn his head her way, instead just pulling their father's cloak more tightly around his tiny form as he continued to walk around. He was getting more and more used to the house as time passed, allowing him to walk around freely without getting hurt aside from the times that things got moved or his father accidentally left something on the floor. Makani had tripped over the man's things many times but at least he was apt at catching himself and keeping from getting much more then some scrapes.

A little yip sound drew his attention and made him smile, causing him to go shuffling over to where Rae was at the moment. From the sound of it and how close her voice was she was probably laying on his makeshift bed again, she seemed to like it and tended to want him to stay there as well, probably to keep him from getting hurt, "Come on, Rae, I'm fine." He reassured the puff ball of a Raptrix before he started to walk around again, dragging the cloak behind him. Of course just as he was certain that he was totally fine the edge of the cloak caught on one of his father's walking sticks, causing it to tip over and take out he rest of the things that were standing there, all of them landing in a massive, clattering heap that drew a cry from him and made Rae start to howl.

A squeal of surprise escaped from Eira as the loud sound filled their small home, causing her to jerk her head to the side, looking at what had been knocked over then to Makani, "Augh! You idiot! You shouldn't be dragging that damn cloak about you are going to break something!" She snapped at him, hurrying over to pick up her father's things, a look of frustration on her face. She had been just about willing to try to make friends with him and he had to go and pull something like this? Really, why he couldn't just behave was beyond her. Surely he knew better? Knew that dragging around a cloak that was ten times his size would never work! Geez, what if he had broken something belonging to their father? It was something that Eira wouldn't have been able to deal with very well, seeming to want to protect his things for him while he was away.

Turning to point at his bed she said, "Go sit down with Rae!" Of course after she gave the order she realized that he couldn't really see her, could he? It was something that made her flail in place for a moment in frustration before she went back to their father's things, looking them over, standing them all up neatly, and otherwise seeming to be doing her best to ignore her little half brother.

Makani was near to tears as his sister first called him an idiot and then snapped at him about dragging the cloak around, all of it complete with a curse word and raised voice. When he was ordered to go and sit with Rae he was quick to do so, rushing over to his bed and threw himself down on it, clinging to the pup while hiding under the cloak. It wasn't like he'd meant to knock it over! Surely she knew that? He didn't want to break anything, he just hadn't realized that the cloak had gotten snagged all... and didn't she know how much the sudden, loud sounds of that stuff had startled him?! Likely not since she had been so quick to yell at him he thought to himself as he buried his face against Rae's fluffy fur, sniffling all the while.

As he clung to the dog all he could think about was his desire for Papa to get home... he didn't want to be here with Eira anymore! She was mean! Why couldn't she be nice like Papa? Or like Rae? Or even like Borra? The fact that instead she seemed to mean like some of the other villagers that seemed to hate him so much for reasons his young mind couldn't fathom his tears got worst and gave way to little sobs. He wanted his Papa!

Eira turned to look at the boy when he went rushing over to where his bed was set up, bursting into tears, and she gave a bit of a sigh at the sight of him. Augh! Damn it... she didn't want to make the brat cry she just didn't want him breaking things, especially their father's things or worse what was left of her mother's things. She crossed her arm over her chest, starred down at the boy, then cursed under her breath, "Alright, alright... enough! Dont do that anymore... let's just try to not cry, alright?" She demanded of him, hating very much that she'd made him cry for some reason. She didn't like him so why did it matter to her? Probably because even if she didn't like him, mostly due to who his mother was, she still saw a youngling when she looked at him.

"Alright... tell me what to do to make you stop crying." She said, picking up Flurry off of her shoulder and held the pixie out toward him, "Here, do you want to hold Flurry, will that make you stop?" She asked of him.

Flurry got a rather displeased look on his face when he was offered up to the boy but seemed to understand the fact that it was likely that he wasn't going to stop. As much as he didn't feel like getting squished by a sticky handed child he supposed that it was for the best. If the kid stopped crying then Eira would perk back up and when she was in a good mood he tended to get better treatment. That was what mattered the most in his mind so he fluttered forward toward the boy, making sure to give a buzzing sound when he got close since the kid wouldn't see him coming.

Makani tightened his hold on Rae when he heard Eira talking to him once more, telling him that it was enough and that he shouldn't cry anymore. Giving a little sniffing sound he nodded his head, trying to get his tears under control even though it really wasn't the easiest thing to do. He would do his best to do as he was told though so that Eira wouldn't yell anymore, she was scary when she was yelling he thought to himself. Then again as a whole she was scary because, to this point, she hadn't let him near her, hadn't let him touch her face so he could better know what she looked like, she was a complete mystery to him. Due to her being such a complete unknown, one that didn't like him in the least, it made it that much harder when it came to dealing with her, "S-Sorry... I will t-try not to c-cry..." He said in a subdued, lifting a hand to rub it against his face.

When she was suddenly asking him if he wanted to hold Flurry, thinking that it would make him stop crying, he couldn't help but to lift his head and looked curious. She would let him hold Flurry? That was a bit of a surprise, wasn't it? To think that she would let him hold her pet when he knew full well that the thing was special to her, they were rare from what he'd gathered, as a rare as something like Rae if not more so, "Ahhh... y-yes, I want to h-hold Flurry." He said in a hushed tone, reaching his hands out, holding them open to take the strange little critter from her.

As Flurry came over, landing on his open hands, the youngling gave a little gasp of surprise before drawing in Flurry closer to himself, letting the creature stand on one of his hands as he used the other one to inspect him carefully, getting a feel for what he looked like, before giving a nod of his head, "Wow... you are really tiny, huh?" He said, always surprised when he ran across this that were even smaller then he was since he knew he was pretty tiny himself, "Ohh... you have wings too, just like Rae! Though hers are covered in baby fluffy." He told Flurry, seeming to be calming down as he got used to the pixie that was always with his sister.

A sighing sound of relief escaped from the prentice girl, hands coming to rest on her hips, watching her brother as he set about inspecting Flurry with his fingertips, learning what it was that the creature looked like exactly. It was then that she found herself, strangely, feeling a bit on the guilty side for snapping at him since he was blind. It wasn't as though he knew where the cloak was, did he? He was blind, had no idea what was going on anywhere, it was probably up to her to tell him where it was all at since she could see. There were times that she forget since he tended to get around well enough using his other senses, probably since he was born with such a condition according to her father.

Groaning she came to plop down next to him, reaching a hand out to pat Rae on the head, "Look... I know I suck at this but I never really thought about having a sibling, not since my mother died, and you sort of just appeared out of no where." She muttered, not looking right at him even though she knew that the boy wasn't able to see her. She just couldn't quite face him as she admitted to such a thing given she wasn't really the most friendly sort, not with everyone at least, not did she like with things she didn't like. At the same time she was stuck with him, wasn't she? He was her father's son, her half brother, and they would be living together until one or both of them gained rank and were able to go out into the world. Something she had to start to work on so that she could get a place of her own. Maybe she'd like him better when he wasn't constantly underfoot she thought to herself.

"So... umm... we should probably make a truce or something. I think our father would feel better about going out on hunts then. Deal?" She asked of him, hoping that the boy would comply.

To say that Makani was surprised by his sister's words would be the understatement of the millenia. She wasn't the sort that apologized, wasn't the sort that talked him him about problems, and certainly wasn't the sort that wanted to make truces with those she didn't care for. All of these things stacked up had the boy falling into utter silence for a long while, one hand holding Flurry, the other petting Rae's soft fur until his hand bumped into that of Eira, causing him to squeak and pull it back, "Umm... sorry..." He murmured, lifting Flurry up to let the creature stand on his shoulders before resting his hands in his lap, lapsing into silence for a moment more, seeming to be thinking on something before speaking up again.

"I... never though I'd have a sister either... not a big one at least. Momma never said anything about wanting another baby, not yet at least and then... then the snake got her and... and when Papa came to get me, bringing me home with him... he told me about you. I didn't know what to think either." He didn't want a sister at the time, all he wanted was Papa, the only one that seemed to make things even slightly better when it came to the loss of his mother. It was a loss that still hurt even now but at least he had Papa and maybe... maybe one day Eira too? That she wanted a Truce, it was a good sign he felt.

The Ice Tribe woman nodded, lifting a hand up to toy with a strand of her long, flowing hair, then said, "I never thought about that." She murmured, it was an odd sound to think that he wasn't sure what he should think about her. It was such a mess and their father wasn't exactly helping much. It wasn't his fault of course, he must be in so much pain. He'd lost two important people after all, his wife and then the woman he'd fallen for after his wife, he had two children that he had to take care of on his own, one that was a halfbreed, and a job that asked a lot of him and often put him in danger. She had to wonder if the man worried about the two of them. The fact that they had each lost one parent after all and he was doing something so dangerous. She couldn't help but worry about him.

"Father isn't too helpful when it comes to us dealing with each other. He's really busy with his duties as a hunter meaning that we need to figure it out on our own." She told Makani, drawing her knees up to her chest, resting her hands on them, watching the boy.
PostPosted: Thu May 16, 2013 12:18 am

"He really is busy, isn't he?" He murmured, missing their father when he wasn't at home. It was a little lonely and he didn't really get to cuddle up with anyone save for Rae, as well as Baroke and Borra that one time. He was one that he wanted to see again since he was a more friendly member of the Ice Tribe. While that was all nice he much preferred being allowed to curl up with his Papa at night, to sleep in his strong arms, he felt the safest then. It wasn't something he could do a lot though given that the man seemed to be away a lot due to his duties at hunting, "Umm... then... since we are on a truce... maybe we can see about doing something for Papa?" He suggested, it was the only thing they really had in common after all, their father. It was a place to start, right?

Giving a smile he pushed up to his feet, something that caused Rae to follow suit and Flurry fluttered up into the air, making a couple circles around the boy before he moved to land on Eira's shoulder once more. The boy gave a smile as he patted a hand on Rae's head, "I think that we should do... something, cook him dinner maybe? Make him something sweet? Get him a present? We should do something like that Eira!" He said, clapping his hands.

Eira starred at the boy for a long moment, lifting a hand to scratch Flurry under the chin before she lifted herself up to her feet, "Alright then, that actually sounds like a good idea." She murmured, crossing her arms over her chest, looking thoughtful about it. Do something for their father, huh? Seemed like as good an idea as any and all of his suggestions seemed like good ones, ones that they could both handle. They couldn't really do anything like helping the man with his work, she was just a prentice and Makani was blind, but they were able to at least do things at home, right?

"Alright, we just need to decide what to do." Teaming up with her little brother to do something for their father, it seemed like the best way to go about working together. It would still be quite the chore, the boy was little and blind after all, but it didn't mean that he would be completely useless now did it? He was sure that he had his uses and things that he could help with. He could hold things for her, stir things, fetch things that were easy to get, yes this could work, "Alright, you aren't allowed to drag the cloak around the though. We don't want to accidentally knock anything over or catch your only cloak on fire." Not to mention that the cloak that he had started out as their father's cloak. As such she didn't want to risk it getting messed up.

Giving a smile she said, "This way then." Then she, walking over to where the various supplies were kept on various shelves, in bags and boxes, looking through them to find what they would need for tonight's dinner.
PostPosted: Thu May 16, 2013 12:38 am

Makani trotted along after his sister, listening closely to her footsteps so that he knew where best to step. He gave a smile as he stopped right before he bumped into her, tilting his head so that he could listen to her once more, "Mmm... so! What can I do?" He asked, shifting in place on the balls of his feet, waiting to get some sort of direction from his sister who seemed as though she were already up to something, digging around in the supply shelves. It would take long before he found his arms full of various things that she handed him, "Ahh... so we are cooking then?" He asked, able to smell the various ingredients that she had given over to him. It all smelled so good! So many different spices that he knew that his father and Eira got from the traders that came through.

"Can I help cook? I can't do a lot but there are some things that I can do." He told her, careful not to bounce too much, not wanting to drop the various things that he was holding at the moment. He just wanted to help to cook too even if he had no idea how to cool or what he would really be doing that would make him all that useful when it came to preparing food. Still, it would be a skill that he should learn since he would likely have to cook sometime in the future, blind or not.

As Eira loaded her brother's arms with various things she gave pause, "Eh? Help to cook?" She asked, looking thoughtful and uncertain, glad that he wasn't able to see the look on her face. She crossed her arms over her chest in an unsure, thoughtful manner, then gave a nod of her head finally, "I am sure that I can find... something for you to do." She said after a moment. Best to find him something easy to do, maybe he could peel the fruit or something since the skins came off easily enough, "Yeah, I am sure that we can find something for you to do. I am going to get some meat off the rack, you stay here with Rae. Right here." She said, tapping her foot against the ground so that he knew where he was supposed to stay.

With that she hurried along, outside the house, and then to the small building where their raw food was kept, a room that was nice and cold, keeping it all nice and safe and fresh until it was needed. She looked through it all carefully, thinking hard on it, then finally picked the cut that she could use, "He loves Mammu best." She murmured before he carried the heavy chunk of meat into the house and then set it down on the table, "We are making a Mammu steak, sound good?" She said to her brother, figuring that it would be best to keep him in the loop for what it was exactly that she was planning.

"You can come over now, put everything on the table." As she said it she tapped a hand on the table, showing him where it was. It seemed as though the boy saw with sound, which was strange in her mind but since it seemed to make sense to him she would use the the trick to make things easier on her.
PostPosted: Thu May 16, 2013 1:14 am

A happy sound escaped from the little blond boy when he was told that she would find him something to do. That meant that he would really get to help as far as cooking for their father went! It was something that had Makani far too excited and were it not for the fact that his arms were full he might have jumped around in delight. Instead he tried to keep himself still, no reason to upset Eira again when she seemed to have calmed down after her earlier angry outburst. This new, more friendly Eira, was something that he felt was a tenuous thing, as such he had to be careful so that she would remain so nice, so kind, and so open to actually talk to him instead of ignoring him in the way that she'd done after he first arrived.

When she tapped a foot against the ground, telling him to stay there, he shuffled over to that spot with his full arms, waiting there with Rae at his side while she went to find some meat. Turning his head toward where he could hear Rae he said, "She seems to be in a better mood... I'm glad." He hoped that he was able to keep her in such a mood. When she returned a short time later she was talking about how they were making Mammu steak, something that he had first eaten when they came into this place. He liked it so he was glad that it was what they were making for dinner, "Sounds good." He said, moving over to her when he heard the tap on the table, unloading his arm full of ingredients only to happily. Stretching out his tired arms over his head he asked, "What's next?" He hoped that he could do something else, something fun, and something more important then just carrying things around.

Eira looked down at the various ingredients that were laid out before her before she started to move them around, arranging them so that she would be able to more easily reach them, "Alright, let's see here." Where to start she thought to herself. She needed to get the meat thawed a bit, had to mix together the spices, make a sauce, cook it all up. It would be good once she was done she thought to herself before Makani was asking her what was next. Ah yes, she told him that he could help, hadn't she? Starring at her ingredients she spotted the fruits, sliding them over to where Makani was standing, "Here you go, you get to skin these. It's pretty easy, the skins peel right off. Carefully, we don't want to waste even a bit of the fruit itself since its a huge bother to get the traders to bring fruit this far.

With that order given she turned back to her own chore, setting to work getting everything prepared so that she could get the Mammu steak prepared. If they did this right, got everything going quickly, the steak should be ready by the time their father got back. She was sure that he would be happy to see them not only getting along but also getting along well enough that they were able to make dinner for Herluin, something that Eira felt the man deserved. He worked so hard after all, getting to come home to a hot meal would likely perk him up, something she hoped for since she wanted to see him smile like he used to.
