Hobbies: Wine Tasting – Destiny is usually found at wine tastings sampling the local offerings and trying to decide which varieties would be good for the bar. A few bottles where she is really impressed get bought to go in her private collection that she saves for the right moment. While not a trained sommelier she's been doing this long enough that she's pretty sure she has a decent palette as she can usually pick out most of the “notes” in the wine. She also has a blog to this effect where she reviews what she's tasted called “Que Syrah Syrah”
Reading – Destiny is an avid reader. Though she tends to avoid non-fiction she will devour fiction books at the speed of light making frequent trips to the library or book store a necessity. She owns a Kindle that is usually filled with some of her favorite works to take on the go because sometimes a real book is just too bulky in her purse. She especially loves the fantasy genre and can recite passages from some of her favorite books at the drop of a hat. She loves old book stores as well not only because they frequently have lesser known prints but because of the smell! She loves the smell of old books, musty and rich, and can spend hours there perfectly at home sipping tea and reading.
Computer Games – Destiny likes computer games. She has a membership to an online site where she can buy and download games onto any computer and play them. Her favorite genres are hidden object games and time management. Hidden objects are nice to just relax into and have a story told and time management is more of a challenge. She will usually post in the game forums as well offering hints to people stuck on certain levels and chatting it up with other people like her that have this hobby. She also likes the Sims and Zoo Tycoon games as well and can lose hours if left unattended.
Writing – Destiny likes to write. She will write poetry and short stories and share them with her friends. She even participates in local spoken word nights and will perform her own works and take in the works of others. The short stories she publishes online occasionally when they are finished and thoroughly revised, edited, and approved by several of her friends. While she is currently working on a novel she keeps revising it to the point where she feels it's rubbish and has to essentially start over. Because of this she hasn't told anyone, not even her partner, that there is a novel in the works. Virtues: Creative – Destiny is rather creative! She likes to work with words and create worlds that she can build and control (which is another reason why she likes the Sims series, too) but she also likes to think of things from different approaches. She knows she is sometimes easily deterred and as such usually tries to approach problems in such a way as to not suffer setbacks. She's the person that usually has a plan B as back up and never asks a question she isn't reasonably sure she already knows the answer to. She enjoys trying to find new things to do in her life and in her work as well and enjoys trying to find an unexpected solution to any challenge.
Organized – If you need to know where anything is just ask Destiny! She has everything in her life under strict control (if only because she knows if one thing falls apart it all will) and can tell you where anything and everything is with regard to the bar and her life. She happily keeps track of the costs of maintaining the bar, orders, recipes, and other day to day affairs. She's the administration person between her and her partner. She also keeps things organized mentally and never misses a date or deadline! She's also one of those people that remembers names and faces on the first try and as such can usually be told “the usual” at her bar and will know exactly what that is!
Pleasant – Need an ear after a rough day or a pick me up? Destiny's the one you want. She's almost always pleasant to be around (with the exception of when her flaws are being affected). She's happy to joke and laugh with the people around her and doesn't feel awkward in a crowd. While she doesn't always believe the best in people she will certainly treat everyone equally until they prove otherwise to her! In a business where it's important to keep things from getting too heavy she's happy to lighten the mood any way she can! She likes it best when her bar is a place for people to come together and laugh and not stew over their mugs.Flaws: Defensive – Destiny tends to be very defensive of herself because her self esteem isn't the greatest. If she feels she's being attacked or criticized, even if she isn't, she will immediately jump into defensive mode and will either attack back and try to hurt the other person with her words or she will completely shut down and simply push the person, and whatever they're trying to tell her, away. This makes her very hard to talk to about anything she's done that can be considered a negative and makes it hard for her to change bad habits because she won't see them and no one else can tell her about them. After a while when left to herself she'll feel badly about what she's done and will apologize for her behavior but that won't make her any more prepared to hear the truth.
Low Self Esteem – Destiny thinks the worst of herself in even the best situations. She likes to pretend this isn't the case but anyone that even scratches the surface of her personality knows this isn't true. It's from the abuse she suffered as a child that even therapy hasn't cured her of. (not that she's stayed in it long enough to know) Because she is so insecure she is constantly looking for approval and validation from others instead of finding it within herself and this makes her come across as very annoying and very needy to others. Or, at the very least, like she's fishing for compliments – which she is. If someone makes a comment against her, even a small one, she will latch onto it and brood over it, often for hours. If someone comments negatively on a story or poem she's written she will usually abandon it entirely and assume its worthless and terrible instead of revising that one thing they pointed out.
Know it All – Destiny enjoys the fact that she is smart and well educated. In fact, she takes great pride in those facts and continues her education through avid reading, web surfing, and even the occasional class in town. The downside to this, however, is that she can often come across as a know it all when she's talking to people about things. She doesn't hesitate to point out when someone is misinformed and will usually dominate a conversation when its a topic she knows very well, even talking over others when they aren't saying something she considers relevant. The worst part about it, however, is that she will also point out that people aren't informed and will make comments to that effect in conversation. Usually “you should know what you're talking about before you talk.” or “You know, you should probably try to be more informed because you pass wrong information off to others.” She will do this even when she's wrong about what she's saying. So long as she believes she's right (and that is 9 times out of 10) she will argue her point down to the ground until she's irrefutably proven wrong (at which point she will concede but not apologize) or until the other person gives up.
