Location:
It is a port town located in northwest Sunderland where the Thrithing River meets the Iron Sea. This makes it a strategically significant location, particularly because of its key spot at the head of the Thrithing trade route. However, sending an armada across the Iron Sea is considered inadvisable, so it is not considered particularly vulnerable.

Population:
Aside from the usual tradesmen and general populace of any town, Northport has a high concentration of merchants and a rotating flux of sailors - as well as all of the associated peoples that tend to go along with such port towns.

Town:
Sprawling across the mouth of the Thrithing, Northport is nestled between each of the river's branches making for a sizable town. Bridges and ferries allow its people to reach each part of the town. Homes and buildings are set on stilts and platforms and built on the high ground to help prevent flooding indoors. Its people have learned to live with the dangers and blessings of both river and sea.

History:
Since Sunderland was first populated, there have always been people in Northport. First, it was a simple fishing town; then, when the Iron Sea became passable to those brave enough to face it, it became a center for trade. Since then, it has only grown in size and diversity.

Culture:
Northport is divided into two main areas: the East and the West. Those who dwell in the East tend to belong to the wealthier, mercantile classes. The West has been claimed by less well-off tradesmen and boasts many a tavern for the sailors who come and go. All of its people have two things in common: fierce pride and a devil-may-care sense of independence.
