A young girl trudged along the street looking at signs affixed to buildings. She hardly payed any mind to the people milling about, staring at the regal black doe who followed close behind. After all, it was something she had been forced to get used to, especially after the wolves started attacking in the north. It hardly mattered, though. Lethe could and would look after herself. Anyone who tried to approach her was liable to end up with at least a bruise for their efforts.
Eventually, the girl stopped outside of a shop, frowning. After carefully comparing the sign to the little piece of paper in her hands, she nodded. This was it - the shop owned by the lady the professor had told her about. A scientist, she was, challenging the stuffy, rigid ways of society. Faye wondered what sort of person she was. Well, there was only one way to find out. With no more ado, she opened the door and stepped inside.

And the person the young girl was met with was.....
No one.
At least not immediately.
The shop itself was more like a greenhouse in a brick building's clothing, with tables and shelves and plants absolutely everywhere. The air was warm, humid, and clung to the cold windows as heavy vapor. One may have half expected there to be birdsong, and insects fluttering about between ferns and potted trees, but no, there was only silence aside from the occasional crackle and pop of multiple braziers.
That is until a very loud, "FOR s**t'S SAKE!" rang out from the very back of the building with such... feeling that it was surprising people outside hadn't stopped and stared. "Stupid, obtuse, ignorant manwhores...."
The muttering, tall woman stepped out from behind a fern, sheets of paper in her hands, and then stopped. And stared. Right at the young girl.
"......Who the hell are you?"

Faye stared right back at the woman, brown eyes wide and curious. Growing up on the streets had made her immune to coarse language and rough tempers, though it had left her with a natural wariness. Still, her instincts were not giving any warnings about this woman, so she figured it was ok. Besides, Lethe had followed her inside. If the woman tried anything, the doe would handle her.
"Faye Donohue," she said at last. The girl was not entirely certain what she had expected, but this wasn't it. What an ornery woman. Not that she was put off by her. It would take more than that to scare her away. She was just...different. Didn't have her head in the clouds like the professor, certainly didn't have his mild manner.
"The professor sent me," she added as an afterthought. Though, she had no idea if he had remembered to warn the woman. Knowing him, it was just as likely that he had forgotten as not.
